Problem was, the corruption was a result of subsidy.

You bring in price controls...an integral part of subsidy, and copule it up with free money..another ingredient of subsidy, and anarchy and corruption results.

Ghana and Niger republique both have working refineries, as does Chad. They also DO NOT HAVE and HAVE NEVER HAD subsides. As a result, their refineries can make enough profit, and work well to produce and sell fuel. And they don't have 'strong institutions' (Chad is a one man dictatorship show, Niger too has corruption issues, as does Ghana.).

MTN and Airtel work where Nitel failed because they were selling services , telephony and internet, at high prices...and making enough profit to build things and improve services over time.

The thing is, once you make it difficult for someone to make a profit in a business, that person is going to turn to corruption and wayo to make money. Infact the periodic scarcity that used to happen under subsidy was a means by which marketers made enough profit to survive and balance their books. They had no choice....other wise they would have gone broke. Yeah it is nice to sell fuel cheap...but there are things needed for the business to run that don't rely on subsides...and are expensive to boot.

Nigeria should have removed subsides in 1993, when it was suggested strongly that we do. By now, we won;t be having this discussion....but we said no. 30 years later...

I do not support APC, PDP or LP. My problem with them, and with Nigerian leaders is simple. Nigeria runs a resoruce dependent economy that no longer works, and none of the parties have taken measures to get us off it

The raw numbers suggest otherwise. Atiku will have the popularity edge over Tinubu if a rerun was called between the two given the current circumstances. If Obi supports Atiku then even worse. And I say that as someone that prefers Tinubu to Atiku.

You clearly see Tinubu as a God-like genius. You can worship him if you want but from where I’m sat I only see a man whose gamble on Buhari almost backfired and whose dirty, divisive politics has made him very unpopular to many people.

Every president appoint aids they can trust and there is obviously no federal character when appointing aids to presidents, but why do southern media keep quiet when southern presidents makes decisions like this and come all out smoking if it were northern President?

Till this minute, I still ask people to justify the nepotism tag they placed on president Buhari and till this minute it they are yet to give any serious answer. At some point, president Buhari even appointed south more than north. Yet they accused him of nepotism.

I’m in “wait and see” with Tinubu. The unification of Naira rate and ending of subsidy were things that we absolutely needed to do. PMB didn’t do this but instead borrowed and borrowed while simultaneously destroying the economy with his anti-growth policies. He was incompetence personified and employed similarly incompetent people in key areas out of nepotism.

You can argue that Tinubu should have implemented these good policies in a different way. But I’m waiting to see how it plays out. If Obi had won you and I would be saying the same. If you really think anyone could pull us out of the hellhole that Buhari put us in overnight then you’re underestimating Buhari’s damage lol.

Let’s see what he does to address the current situation. Let’s see his list of ministers. Let give these policies time to play out.
