Rotimi Amaechi Issues Statement, Denies Bribing Judge Over Rivers Election In a press release issued on Tuesday, Rotimi Amaechi denied allegations that the DSS raided Justice Okoro’s home due to the judge’s refusal to be bought out by Mr. Amaechi.
Read the statement below:
This accusation from Justice Okoro against Amaechi is a figment of his imagination, concocted to obfuscate and politicize the real issues for his arrest and DSS investigation of allegations of corruption against him. The claims by Justice Okoro against Amaechi are blatant lies, bereft of any iota of truth or even logic. Amaechi did not, and has never approached Justice Okoro in respect of the cases Okoro mentioned or any other case. This is a cheap attempt, albeit, political move to drag the name of Amaechi into something he knows nothing about. Justice Okoro should face his issues and leave Amaechi out of it. He will be hearing from our lawyers.

frank202012: U don't clean ur yansh before u begin shit... So bec of few farmers, they sacrificed the whole country? Am not against developing agriculture, just that the govt should put down well layed down measures to aid local rice production. Like u said we can't compete with foreign rice, When u can't compete with the imported ones in ur home country, where will you export to?? Have you asked yourself why we couldn't compete? ItsIts because we didn't developed. His would you develop when you are not even producing cos of stiff competition. Truth is nothing comes easy. So you think we will keep local rice in one warehouse and they say oya stop importation, we have rice now. No it doesn't work that way. We must pay the price for our tatse for imported goods. Pay high or go for local, as demands increase for local production will increase. Many more people will go into the production and development. With time we can even compere with imported rice. |

frank202012: How many rice farms do you have?? How many farms has naija govt set up?? What re the measures put in place to aid rice production in nigeria?? Don't sit at home and type nonsense mr man!!! We all can't be farmers. As of 2008, less than 2 percent of the population of usa is directly employed in agriculture and they grow enough for even exports. I tell you there are several farmers in Nigeria silently praying for a total ban. The problem has always been that we can't compete with foreign imports. But if we do away with them, we will have the opportunity to develop. |

onatisi: Banning importation of rice through land borders is not too good. In governance at times u give ppl the alternative. The alternative wont be palatable but it will be up to them to decide. For example, just tell them,if they import through the seaport they will pay 1000 naira tax bit if it is through the land borders the tax will be 6000-8000 naira. Automatically you have given them a choice ,some will still be stubborn and use the land borders but then they will pay .while others will continue using the sea ports. All these while the cost of these imported rice will be higher than the local ones. The revenue from the taxation on imported rice will then be used to support local rice farmers and mills Let me give you a scenario. Mr A import rice strighty to Nigeria pays custom dues. Mr. B imports through Benin, rice stays in ware house for months before taken to Nigeria. Apart from the Loo's in duties, have you thouht about the suitabilty of such rice for human consumption? Apart from that, our porous borders means no matter that rates many will still find a way through. |

400billionman: Its simple.
Open the borders for a short period of 3 to 6 months and then close it permanently. Its just a window for the already imported rice lying at the borders.. That idea is faulty. Open it for who and for what. Opening for 3 months can affect our economy for 2 yeas. It was imported to Benin, let them eat it there. Why didn't the importers come through Nigeria. That's the saboteurs we are talking about. Benin received the duties, let them look for what to do with it. They can choose to put them back on ships and send to Naija port. |

joinnow: U are still Waiting for harvest. Did you plant any Rice. Answer me.. .... Hope you are not in dream land. Brace up winter is almost around. You forgot that most Northern were afraid to farm because of boko haram insurgent. So where will the harvest come. For you information we also important bean. Do you know that we import bean from Burkina faso. I didn't plant rice. I farm other produce. Rice farmers must be encouraged. Insurgency affected farmers but they are gradually recovering. BH is no longer a threat like it is a year or so ago. Farmers are going back to the farms. The rains have been good. Are you happy we imported beans. As big as we are? With our population and plentious lands? Insurgency caused that and Nigeria is overcoming that gradually. Next is for Nigerians to reduce desire for foreign goods. It's not sustainable, it takes jobs away from us and doesn't help our economy apart from the safety/health challenges. Our people are not lazy, with the right government interventions, we can produce. |

onatisi: ok ,please kindly tell us what government policies are on ground to boost the local production of rice . There have been various interventions from the days of Obj. Gej did same for which we applauded him and Adesina. But you know why the policies failed? Rice was still freely imported and cheaply too. The present government is not redesigning the wheels, its only building on what previous governments have done. Encouraginf farmers through FADAMA projects, proving subsidies and farm inputs and above all guaranteeing a market for he eventual produce. Investors including our own Atiku have established rice mulls in anticipation of massive harvest. This I Believe is thee way to go. |

The ban of generators is on the smaller ones for ecological reasons. It will be foolishness to totally ban generators when we don't have reliable power and can't fix that in short term. But food, we must produce what we eat. That doesn't require a long term as compared to power. It is in this case that i will expect to hear that ' it is not rocket science' |

joinnow: Good you mentioned Thailand Have you google to find out how their govt made things easy for farmers How they were able to get loan at very low rate How there is internet availablility at there farms How farm settlements has infrastructure etc Etc. Let our government do there part first and see if Nja will not start exporting rice I bet you importers love the fast money. They will ensure no policy works. How? They simply get the loans and go back to importation. I believe there must be a ban first. Nigerians must learn to produce what we eat. Its safe, its the right this to do. The previous administration started some stuff, and the preset governemt is making moves too. Let's see what comes out from this year's expected harvests. |

onatisi: you don't ban food items outrightly like that without having a substitute in place to fill the gap. People are dying of hunger in Nigeria or is it until u see dead bodies on the streets that u will realize what we are talking about? This government appears clueless about the way forward that is just the basic fact and everyone is complaining about that, lets not sugarcoat the bitter truth. But isn't it a shame that a country of over 180M can't provide enough rice to feed itself? Wit all our arable lands and great weather? |

onatisi: Then that is where govt should step in. They have all the apparatus to make it work and ppl pay. They can formulate a system that ppl cant beat. It doesn't make too much sense telling ppl not to import from land borders but only through the sea ports? True. But govt is only admitting to how porous our land borders are. Its a quick fix solution. |

Its a pity that Nigeria as a nation depends so much on importation for its food. If we like rice so much, why don't we wake up and start production. Thailand alone is able to feed its own people and the entire Nigeria and counting. This is sad. What are we going to do if we are in a war situation with Thailand or we have embargoes imposed on us. I wish there can be total ban on importation of rice. |

Hon. Justice Kabiru Auta was investigated by Council based on allegations of corrupt practices levelled against him in a petition forwarded to Council by one Alhaji Kabiru Yakassai. His Lordship was recommended to the Governor of Kano State for removal from office by dismissal.
Council wrote separately to the AIG Kano Zone 1, for Police to prosecute Hon. Justice Auta.

Stop fooling yourself. They want to charge him to court and they couldn't state that in the communiqué even if it's just to defend their position. All of the 40 who had been either compulsorily retired or dismissed since 2000 by the NJC, tell me ONE who has been prosecuted. Just ONE. |

Council had found His Lordship culpable of professional misconduct contrary to Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the provisions of Section 292 of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria. Accordingly, he was recommended to Mr President for compulsory retirement from office following the petition written by one Mr Nnamdi Iro Oji for demanding the sum of N200,000,000.00 (Two Hundred Million Naira) bribe. It is to be stressed that from the evidence before the Council, Hon. Justice Ladan Tsamiya did not receive N200m bribe. Did anyone see that? Useless NJC. Is asking for bribe not a crime? |
