Following the communication gap that lead to the Kenyans training in a primary school, Kenyans took to Twitter to insult Nigerians. As you can trust Nigerians gave them back fire for fire. Kenyans have bitten more than they can chew. The story even made it to Aljazeer's Twitter headlines. Abuja – A 36-year-old man, Abdulkareem Abdulsalam, was on Wednesday sentenced to two months in prison for indecent assault by a Senior Magistrate Court in Karu, FCT. Police Prosecutor Stephen Eimoga told the court that on March 19 at about 9 a.m, one Juliet Sunday 18 of Karu Village reported the matter at Karu Police Station. “On March. 18 at about 6 p.m., Sunday was coming out from the bathroom and Abdulsalam also of Karu Village, assaulted her by holding her breasst without her consent,’’ Eimoga said. He said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 285 of the Penal Code. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge. Citing section 157 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, Eimoga applied for summary trial of the accused. Asked if he had any cause to show why the court should not convict him, the accused pleaded for leniency. “I pray the court to pardon me for what I have done. I am a married man and my parents are late. I am begging for your pardon sir,” Abdulsalam pleaded. In his judgement, the Magistrate, Mr Aminu Abdullahi, said the accused could not convince the court on why he should not be punished. “Relying on section 285 of the Criminal Procedure Code, I find you guilty as charged by the police,’’ Abdullahi said. He sentenced the convoct to two months in prison with an option of paying N2,000 fine. The judge said that in addition to the sentence, 12 strokes of the cane should be administered on Abdulsalam and warned him never to engage in such act again. (NAN) |
Multi-Billionaire businessman, Arthur Eze has dismissed the controversy trailing the presidential pardon granted former governor of Bayelsa state, Dipreye Alamieyeseigha and others saying it was God that directed president Jonathan to grant the pardon. Speaking with state House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Chief Eze said criticisms against the pardon was misplaced. “What Jonathan did is what a man who fears God will do. If I have an opportunity as president of Nigeria I will do the same. All of us are human beings. What he did was correct. We are not fighting war. Jonathan took advice from God. God has told him to show mercy. The bible says blessed are those that are merciful for they shall see God” he said. He said the American government has no right to dictate to Nigeria because Nigeria is an independent nation. Speaking on his donation of over N1billion to a church in the president’s Village, Chief Arthur Eze said those criticising him over the donation are criticising God. “God gave me the money to contribute to the church. The money is not meant for Jonathan to put in his pocket. We are thinking of thanking God for what he has done for Otuoke. It was abandoned for many years. They had no water, no electricity until when God brought Jonathan to change that place. Let the people have a place to worship God. Those criticizing me are confused people” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/03/god-told-jonathan-to-pardon-alamieyeseigha-arthur-eze/ |
The ministry finally expressed the hope that the embassy of the United States of America would henceforth desist from making unwarranted comments on Nigeria's internal affairs, which are capable of undermining the friendly relations that exist between them," the statement said
I weep for my country. |
LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) -- Nigeria's foreign ministry summoned a top U.S. diplomat Friday night over an issue of national importance - on Twitter. At dispute are two messages sent Friday by the U.S. Embassy's Twitter account critical of an unconditional pardon given to a former governor convicted on corruption charges, a man who President Goodluck Jonathan only weeks earlier referred to as "my boss." While the Twitter fight isn't likely to end the close relationship Nigeria shares with the U.S., one of its top customers for crude oil, it signals the sensitivity the government has over the pardon, which has enraged Nigerians tired of corruption's strangle-grip on the country. It also shows the growing power that social media have in Nigeria, and the rest of the world, to drive public debate. The diplomatic spat began Friday morning with two short tweets published by the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. The first said the U.S. was "deeply disappointed" over the pardon issued this week to former Bayelsa state Gov. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha. Alamieyeseigha was impeached and later pleaded guilty to corruption charges in Nigeria. Investigators said he used government money to acquire property in Britain and Nigeria worth more than $10 million. The second tweet from the embassy simply said: "We see this as a setback in the fight against corruption." While sounding largely benign, the criticism from the U.S. Embassy was uniquely direct. While then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton roundly criticized the country during a visit to Abuja in 2009 over corruption and election fraud, local U.S. diplomats often strike a more conciliatory tone when speaking with the Nigerian government. The U.S. views Nigeria as a crucial ally in Africa, as it produces oil and provides peacekeeping troops for regional conflicts. On Friday night, the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement saying it was urgently calling James P. McAnulty, the U.S. deputy chief of mission, for a meeting. The statement called the U.S. remarks "undue interference and meddlesomeness," since the president had followed the provision of the Nigerian constitution granting him the power to issue pardons. My guess is that Jonathan is involved in the money laundering with Alams, and Alams may have threatened to expose him unless he pardons him. Its a pity that we have GEJ as president. |
