Write all ur long sermons, but as far as Achebe and the hall of shame is concerned, due process was followed. The rules were strictly adhered to. Same rules that were used for all awards this year.. Why did you not cry when GEJ was inducted in the hall of shame??
Same corrupt system put up GEJ and I knew in a matter of time it would self destruct. Bros how far? |
Nonsense! Achebe's place in the hall of shame followed the laid down rules of nomination and voting. That's the same process that's been in use for all nominations and awards on this site. What happened there was the POWER OF DEMOCRACY. Election is a game of numbers, Ok?? If the President can be inducted in the hall of Shame, then I don't see why Achebe should be an exception. Seun's knee-jerk reaction was a purely business decision especially since the "WHINERS" on this forum are too many to be ignored in his opinion....
You and I know how the Nairaland system works, we both know what influences trends on this forum. You can deny it all you like. |
Hehehe, I guess its time to examine the examiners LOL Dear Jarus, first I'd love to specially thank you for not doing an "Aishatu" and saying goodbye to this forum, that no doubt would've robbed us of one of our best brains and "better persons" and no doubt denied us the depth of knowledge you bring to the table not just here in the Politics section but in other sections as well where I've personally benefitted immensely from your contributions, I hope you keep your word - thanks in advance. Seeing however that the die is cast and the deed is done and all that's left is for us all to reflect on what was and what might have been, I wonder if your reaction to @PointB's criticisms in your farewell thread is a pointer to your disposition to having a huge ego trip where folks line up to "dobale" and tell you how wonderful your "tenure" was (inevitably I should add) rather than a time to do all that and as well entertain some useful and constructive criticisms in your interest and ours ( Nairalands and her users)? I believe you'd go for the latter, No? Well here are mine anyway drawing from your initial 5 point agenda on your farewell thread. I'd always felt you were biased against both the PDP govt. and Igbos and your conduct somewhat fueled my impression. I placed you somewhere between a shackled rabid bigot (shackled of course by your Modship) and a closet bigot content to let others do the open hating while you gloated from behind the curtains, what with the tacit endorsement you seemingly gave unrepentant bigots and no more than slaps on the wrist - when u bothered - you gave some notorious flouters of forum rules? Your stewardship appeared terribly skewed in favour of a section of forumites from a section of the country. As time went by and I read more and more about your thoughts, most of my views about you relaxed and I learnt to excuse some of your perceived failures as mere "human" rather than personal but somehow, I couldn't totally shake off the idea that there had to be a semblance of bigotry locked in somewhere within you, you basked so much in the noxious glory of bigots not to have some yourself and Nairaland as a forum paid for it during your stewardship. Maybe there was a time the battle against ethnic bashing was a success - a distant memory now - but like the proverbial masquerade that did the near perfect dance but landed on his left foot, he had to be jeered! Moral of the story - Finish Well. No sir, your battle with ethnic hatred and bigotry was a failure - sorry. As concerning your Hall of Fame / Hall of Shame initiative that turned into a fiasco, I thought it was a noble idea but very very poorly managed. Its mode of operation allowed it inevitably to become a tool in the hands of a section of people on this forum - a weakness that should've been foreseen from the outset but ignored even in the light of its derailment simply because it played into the hands of a "section of people" and you had to gloat! A system that throws up Achebe as a candidate for Hall of Shame REGARDLESS of any controversy he might have generated had to be fundamentally flawed, how you of all people couldn't see that fuels my "semblance of bigotry" theory. An impartial Mod would've picked a panel of respected forumites (which we aren't lacking BTW) to come up with a shortlist of candidates from nominated people to be voted for or some other remedy since the original system had proven to be corrupt - You didn't. Hall of Shame / Hall of Fame, Thumbs down Jarus. Next to the Grand Debates, wow! they've been awesome! Really really awesome, I guess - I've never followed any (my loss I know) I've always felt it could be more, I mean much more. Here's an extract from a review of the just ended Chinese year from the BBC: The year 2012 was meant to be a stable one for China as it prepared for its once-in-a- generation leadership change. But things didn't quite go to script as lurid scandals emerged across the country featuring officials from the all-powerful Communist Party, some of whom were local and some very prominent.m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-20765530 I wasn't expecting Chinese-sized scandals but I expected an effort from you - and us. I thought the FOI bill was a goldmine and I thought with you at the helm we could harvest it but slowly and surely, the euphoria tapered off and docility and vapid cyber chants have once again taken root. Where are the NL organized information demands and thousands - signed petitions? Of course I know you don't run NL on your own but I can't help but think we've lost a huge opportunity with you stepping down. With due respect to OAMJ4 (Bros abeg find name wey u go answer) and Afam, I do not see either with your "clout". OAMJ seems too detached from the Nigerian reality and Afam, I'm yet to be convinced he can transform being seemingly overzealous to being a great Mod, I don't know how he manages being an active poster in over 10 NL sections without losing some essence, Not even Kobojunkie at her height could manage it! You see Jarus, as a Mod you weren't a "Ghost" like others you were a real person we could relate with and you could get others to listen because of your great personality. All that seems lost now. While Afams ascension to the throne of "power" seems great in various ways - at least now the other set of bigots can feel the paranoia the other set have felt all these while, I hope he learns from you and does a tad better but meanwhile, I can't help but feel Jarus has left without truly realizing his and helping NL realize her potential, and that's just erm well, sad! |
Sincere 9gerian: Its not about the back bone of one man alone. Its about a society that makes lots of noise about bad behaviour but does NOTHING to curb it.The infamous attitudinal problem. |
@OP: What do you want me to do??
Stay mute if you think its none of your biz. |
^ You siddon house dey count hard currency, no go hustle LOL. 2013 the year ACN and CPC merge into oblivion! Just kidding, I pray they create an opposition worthy of its name. Happy New Year guys. |
texazzpete: You're asking Nigerians to 'feel sorry' for a multi-millionaire who has a rather high, greedy taste for expenditure over a 'persecution' that actually ends in calls being made for her resignation? This here is our problem as a nation, too many half wits with loud voices or thinking faculties irredemably blunted by sentiments emotions, and general perception and too many folks tagging along - the cliched herd mentality - simply cos they can't think for themselves. You mean She deserves no pity cos She's a multimillionaire? Would you rather she was a pauper? And what exactly is your idea of a high greedy taste can you reference any piece to back it up? Does your ignorant speaking butthole realize the Lady was subjected to a thorough investigation by an independent auditing firm and came out unscathed? Can you reerence any piece that exposes her so called "dirty linen"? In what "civilized societies" do people resign for standing up to thieving Chairmen of nation robbing committees? And then you start comparing her with Ibori and co on what basis if I might ask? Did you even bother reading the OP's opening post? if you did then you've got a huge challenge with comprehension as the OP never emphasized any "media persecution" which unfortunately you based your entire ignorant rant on. BTW ,Who still doesn't know this is about her disgrace of Hembe on national TV? |
It's actually funny how the shamefaced and usually prowling opposition and their shameless Nairaland handles (Gbawe and co. I'm looking at you) have kept mute and totally ignored Mrs Oteh as She's terrorized by the bandits unleashed on her from our very own rendezvous of exalted criminals otherwise called the Federal House of Assembly. It's difficult to imagine its the same bunch that have been relentless in their attack on the presidency over his attitude towards fighting corruption that have chosen to stay mute and watch with gleeful delight as a presidential appointee that has taken a firm stand against corruption is tormented by the very same extract of criminals these noxious and ultimately toxic opposition parties make insane noises over in the media. I can point to two reasons why they've done so; 1) Cos it indicts their own parties as being just as much laden with criminals as the PDP is. When last did you hear ACN or CPC legislators took a stand contrary to that held by the majority PDP legislators? Not yet, why? cos they are just as much aggrieved a channel of unearned pay has been blocked. 2) Their only game is to portray GEJ as being incompetent and perpetually wrong and would never give him any credit even if it means the nation has to burn, its all or nothing for these ones folks and there's no price too high to pay. Talk about cutting the nose to spite the face! That's why our democracy is still wearing nappies at thirteen - selfish and destructive opposition that are bent on grabbing power for pecuniary and status benefits and that's exactly why the PDP will continue to flourish. As for the people and the press keeping mute, that's another post entirely. |
No surprise here afterall the boss himself had blamed the 'PDP Kamfuter' for his electoral loss. This just falls in line with CPC's mode of reasoning. |
You know what guys, I do not think there is any need to revisit past bad memories.
Wrong. Talking about your most terrible experiences is actually therapeutic and is a part of the healing process. Moreover, reading about peoples experiences and how they've soldiered on is inspiring and will help folks still wallowing in depression. This is a great thread don't kill it cos you'd rather bottle up your pain like it doesn't exist or prefer living in your lala land where no one reminds you things can go horribly wrong. |
Two of such, first was when my elder brother suffered something like a convulsive fit - he was in SS 1 and I was in pry school, tried to shake him up in the morn and he had this cold blank stare into nowhere and teeth tightly clenched, my mom took one look at him and dashed off to the balcony crying for help almost hysterically and in a matter of seconds that cold August morning in 1991, our home was taken over by neighbors whom we'd barely known a few months as they pressed, massaged, burnt and robbed different concoctions on him till he regained a measure of consciousness. We - my siblings and I walked in tears all the way to the old Warri airport to call my dad who was away at work in PH. He stayed about a month in the hospital and when he came through, he had the IQ of a five year old, couldn't speak or understand English and worse of all, knew none of us! Thankfully he pulled through but lost an entire academic year. Second and most traumatic was losing my Dear Mum to Cancer after she endured painful processes of biopsy, radiotherapy and 5weeks into a 6week extremely painful chemotherapy session, I'd never felt as helpless as I felt watching her go through what She went through and even as I tried to be her strength all through the processes hoping she wld pull through ,the heavens shut its ears at me. How I kept my mind after she passed on, I'm not sure and yes that had to be a day forever etched in infamy. |
Gbawe: The CACOL boss could not have missed all that happened during the fuel subsidy protests where sections of the Country, even as they would pay more for PMS also, preferred to cut their nose to spite their face via labelling the protests a Yoruba/Hausa/Fulani attempt to rubbish GEJ.Haven't that "section of the country" been vindicated today? Y'all have been buying petrol for upwards N110 for months now, how many protests have we seen against the clique of marketers that hold the country to ransom? And you really believe it wasn't all about rubbishing GEJ? |
kene gbasara asusu igbo ni okwu bakare? |
Gbawe: Indeed. Overall, I do feel the revolution thingy is rather impractical. Nigerians are not united enough to carry out all-encompassing actions against their leaders. Sadly, even the most clear issues will be factionalised in the Nigeria of today - creating the perfect environment for looters and thieves. So what's your point considering the title of your thread? |
^ You be desktop, akpa! |
^ When did we become that desperate? |
You know Nigerians wallow in pain because they never appreciate the good among them! Face it, the man has done more for His country, can you reference what you have done for Nigeria?
What are the "more" he's done for his country? Eating his vomit on Buhari, leading a pack of ignoramuses to the streets to fight for petroleum subsidy that benefits no one in the long run or calling for the assasination of political leaders in a democracy? Which of those makes a hero? Perhaps you've been swayed by the cheap media activism that translates to no more than noisemaking, I wonder how his bravery compares with that of the pre - NADECO and NADECO days when folks where whisked into jails and torture chambers for the look on their faces! How does that compare with Bakare's Aje Butter radicalism that of course has to be played out in the full glare of the media for max effects? I expected to see the radical when GEJ moved those military men to the streeets in the final days of the subsidy protest defiant and all but guess who was missing in action? I know a hero when I see one and Bakare isn't even close. |
Yep, he won just like Buhari won the NL presidential election by a landslide. Fact is Tunde Bakare -the politician- is nothing but a bloviating villain than the virtual hero he's made out to be - Get used to it! |
OP listed a couple of good works of the Governor in Ughelli North, I'lld rather those of you attacking the governor fault the OP's claims so we can understand the basis of your criticisms. |
safarigirl: Well, we thought Nigeria would be a free society if civilian rule came, we were wrong. What do you suggest we try out next, Somalia? |
Jarus: I agree there was low turn out this year, has but I won't be surprised if it's because of open ballot system that did not give room for multiple handles voting.Would you be surprised if it had to do with discontent over your handling of Afam's suspension? I know we r over it but I can't help but wonder if lessons have been learnt, what with this apparent willful ignorance? My brother, "Denial" isn't only a river in Egypt, it could sometimes be a well respected Mod in Nairaland! BTW, congrats to Katz. |
Hehehehee, now watch Gbawe - the CTRL C + CTRL V intellectual resort to eediotic quotes from every conceivable newssite, assuming he picks up the gauntlet that is. |
Interesting (grabs a seat). |
^ That's the delusion taking too much gari than is good for you causes. |
seanet01: i have a strong suspicion you are typing from Yaba left.I have a strong suspicion you're Gbawe's vile handle. He keeps his Gbawe handle relatively clean and uses seanet for his dirty dealings. Some task huh? |
Official derailment. Like I didn't know the only legal illegality is that from law enforcers. no hard feelings. Jarus: I have never seen a lady so passionate about her tribe like that. Never. |
Elueme: @ Jarus, see how you are forming one boss that I can't still understand.. How much does the first price cost? How many millions are involved? If it's for the fun of it, give to who you wish, it's not my 2 cents.. All the best. You think? Ask Gbawe what he got from Aregbesola on this account alone last year. Fact. |
take dat: Word!!! Though expect the Villa Courtiers to come label you as an "opposition".How else wld you describe someone that makes a quote from Salielie Reporter's Sunola Olumhense the fulcrum of his argument? |
Someone nominated BEAF, isnt he qualified for nomination? |
Wesley80: LTNC
Yeah, I guess we all need an occasional break. Would luv to read your take on the subject though. |
Demdem: Afam read my post again. i acknowledged that fact.Forgive him for not believing you, your foolishness is legendary! |
ezeagu: I have no desire to interview professional actors. All these Billionaire-Jesus-men (a massive contradiction) are doing shit-all for Nigeria's and Nigerians progress. And who made you a judge of pastors and prophets? Anyway, I do realize how difficult it must be for a SCROOGE to stomach a religion that preaches tightes, offerings and free will giving. You have my sympathy. |
