I think I hit a nerve. lol
Maybe you (justgood) should apply for "Women Exploitation Executive Advocate" position with the govt.
you seem to be pissed that Africa is lagging behind the Western world in that department and we need to play catch up and overtake. Maybe you can help organize a Nigerian Reed Dance. Your daughter will be the first in line of course. lol displaying herself for the "king."

JustGood:

The main name for a fool in Yoruba has to be wesleyan.

then I should call you a big wesleyan because you're a big FOOL. grin

fool.

African Americans almost have a worse reputation in the US than foreigners. Reality is different than you think sometimes.

dudu-bobo:

Why must Africans accept every kind of change? That's akin to "follow follow" without using our brains. We don't have to accept everything that is practiced by the white man in the name of change. Has the white man ever seen anything good enough in African practices to change to such?

I wont read feminist papers. They are not mainstream

You're so foolish it's hilarious. why don't you throw your laptop away and go howl in the jungle you came out of, naked?
Africans musn't accept every kind of change. Doesn't mean we should keep foolish and embarrassing traditions either. If you don't see anything wrong with the Reed Dance then you must be crazy.

feminist papers aren't mainstream but you despise "follow follow." how hypocritical of you,
I bet you perform "virginity test" on your daughters as well.

notice how the african males LOVE the reed dance. and the females on here are all against it (with the inclusion of a few considerate males), tseww Africa and our ever backward mentality,

This thread should have at least 600 posts by August 26!! Just gist or gossip or chat with your friends here. keep posting to help us reach the 600 posts mark before Aug 26th. i think we can do it.

If we rise to this challenge, I will pay the people who make the 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th and 600th posts a sum of 50 dollars each. Then I'll reveal what's so special about August 26th!!!

Family / Re: I Want To Change My Name by WesleyanA(f): 10:59am On Jun 27, 2008
YOU MIGHT REGRET IT. trust me. lol
with a new name, won't you feel like a different person? like you lost part of your identity?
keep your name. esp. if you're going abroad. nobody cares if it's a yoruba or muslim or igbo name lol. plus they'll find it interesting and you'll be able to make friends for your "cool" name. lol
people here love my name (and foreign names) for some reason. undecided i guess 'cause it sounds exotic

what i'll advice you to do is change the order of your name. make the igbo one your first name (if that's the one you have the least problem with) and the muslim one your middle name.
also, go by a nickname (if you don't already). just pick a name that you like and start using it. but don't change your official name in your documents.

how old are you?
if you're young, pls keep your name, you might grow to like it.
the only times i've known people change their identity is for security/ immigration issues. lol. ur sure you're not trying to run away from the police grin
does your dad support you changing your last name? lol

anyways it's all your choice. goodluck smiley
Family / Re: Are Female Children More Intelligent? by WesleyanA(f): 8:27am On Jun 27, 2008
The Sly:

For someone who claims that his/her daughter is intelligent and yet doesn't know it takes more than bravery to get to the top.
So are u saying if i am unintelligent, i could be a governor in the future??
And am not talking about being a Governor in a corruption ridden Country like Nigeria because last time i checked. .
A wool-brained illiterate can be a governor or even a president in Nigeria.

maybe she meant "physical strength" when she said bravery and I agree with her to an extent.
I don't think females are more intelligent than males but I don't think males are more intelligent than females either. we have equal intelligence capacity. Maybe girls tend to be more serious about their education though (just a speculation) while the boys tend to fool around. Sociologists and Psychologists try to explain stuff like this. ex. why girls perform better on standardized tests etc.
in her case, maybe the girl just happened to be the smarter one. lol

But I personally have a feeling that with all the advances in technology, the physical advantage men have over women will no longer be significant. It's already starting to lose it's significance anyways.

men were at the top, not because they were smarter but because they were physically stronger.
ex. a human is WAY smarter than a lion (brain wise) but put them in a room together, the human will run for his life. Unless he has technology (gun for protection) to give him an advantage.
ex. a man can beat his wife and command her to do what he wants and be at the top because he's stronger. but in a country like the US where the physical strength of the man doesn't matter that much and the woman can always call the police etc, the man isn't usually "at the top" in the family. they tend to have equal leverage (unless one has more money. that can be an advantage. lol)

@ The Sly
that's the way I see it.

@ Doyin13,

The solution is simple. . . .
Let all march to any gathering of these political criminals and get em apprehended.
Use atomic bombs if necessary and get it over with once and for all.
People die everyday of hunger n misery so why are we so afraid of DEATH??

you're funny. lol
I just picture 100 million people marching to ASO ROCK with cutlass in hands chanting "we no go gree" lol
you and your family will be leading the march of course. cool
i will show my support by tunning my tv to watch the "Latest Nigerian Turmoil" NBC Special at 8.

such a wonderful proposal. the REVOLyouTION will turn Nigeria into a superpower before we know it!!

4 Play:

Your name?Is the OP an Arab? Hussein is as African as Ronald or Chris.

changing your name as in changing one's name. "you" is referring to anybody. I hope you get me now.

just because Obama's father is African doesn't mean his name has to be in an African language. I'm sure there are many Africans bearing JOY, Peace, Blessing, Abraham, Isaac, Daniel etc. hebrew (i think) and english names. Even arabic names for the muslims like Mohammmed etc. My middle name is Arabic as well since a fair share of my extended family is muslim. Doesn't mean I will go change my name because some ignorant person doesn't like it. lol

4 Play:

I can't stand Arab names. . . it sends me into a fit. grin

I would love to see one of those fits. hahaha and laugh in your face. lol

Jackal:

There has been so much motion but little movement since independence. Nigeria is a republic and not a monarchy.
Nonetheless, the people that ruled our grand-fathers, our fathers, are still the ones ruling you and I.
I would have thought the solution was pretty obvious to you.
Though I am not an advocate of violence but if peaceful moves and solutions become impossible, then violent moves become unavoidable.
The solution? I think it's pretty obvious! R-E-V-O-L-You-T-I-O-N.

In my final analysis, albeit I would assume for the umpteenth time and again, that solutions have been proffered; it is not rocket-science to know that all what is happening in Nigeria are preposterous and contrary to reason. And we do not need God or some witchcraft oracle to tell us otherwise.
I am of the selective few. I have pitched tent somewhere, waiting, patiently for the decisive moment.
I'll give you an insight - start denigerianizing yourself little by little and see yourself first and foremost for who you are.
Only then can we deal with our own without fear or favour. The days of Nigeria are numbered and I can tell you many people share this sentiment.
What is wrong in an Ijaw nation or a Yoruba one - the days of our foolishness are fast perishing!

Can you please be more specific about your recommended solution. it's interesting but what exactly are you suggesting? "animal farm" style revolution or what? people stumping to Aso Rock to behead the President and all his officials?
of course revolution is an obvious solution. but pls tell us how to go about this revolting process and what exactly is on your mind.

and, also, how exactly does one denigerianize oneself? starting by revoking your passport or what? adopting british-american parents? pls elaborate on what you mean and how we should do it.

why isn't anyone being specific on anything? lol. undecided tongue

Nigeria needs help and abstract ideas won't cut it. pls help us, Jackal.
Foreign Affairs / Re: I Hate Obama's Middle Name. by WesleyanA(f): 7:55pm On Jun 25, 2008
hating your name because of other people's prejudices??
why don't you go help him change his middle name to Ronald or Chris then?

there's nothing wrong with his name. just people's mindsets are messed up sometimes.
Politics / Re: For The Sake Of My Sanity I Have Resolved Not To Care by WesleyanA(f): 7:44pm On Jun 25, 2008
how do you define "care" anyways? does it mean refusing to read the newspapers, or telling people you're not Nigerian or telling them you're Nigerian when asked and adding "but i don't really care" at the end of the sentence? or throwing a house party at the news of a pipe explosion??
Most people care and show concern about their countries. haha I know I do.

you can use polyvore to create sets. you know where the items come from too so you can just go to the mall or shop online to get whatever you like or want.
the necklace in this set, for example, is from AE (and i actually saw it when i visited AE recently) so you can just go get it if you want it so bad. lol
