Fashion / Re: Help! Need A Flat Tummy: by WesleyanA(f): 5:50am On Jun 06, 2008
ummm, don't drink too much water in the morning. it will cause your tummy to bloat
don't eat food that contain too much salt. it makes your body retain water therefore causing your tummy to bloat (remember osmosis or whatever it is from biology? )
take a poop to remove rubbish from your stomach. in order to be able to take a poop everyday, eat high fiber foods like beans or whole wheat etc. avoid starchy foods like eba or amala or jollof rice. that means big stomach for the rest of the day.
if you're on your period, there's nothing you can do. your body retains water and you swell all over during that time. just pray for it to be over.

one question. do you have a lot of fat in your stomach or is it just bloated? if it's fat, burn the fat with cardio. i.e by walking 45 min everyday and eating healthy. if it's bloating, follow the advice listed above.

Crime / Re: What Drives Someone To Suicide? by WesleyanA(f): 6:01am On May 29, 2008
yeah suicide rate is probably lower in Africa than in the west. even though there's hardship (listed in the above post), there is family, extended family and the community to share your depression (or whatever leads one to suicide) with.
In the west, the culture is so individualistic with automated machines, or formal professionals if you're lucky, for everything. no warmth or frendliness among the people to help you survive stress. just cold and keep to yourself attitude. even when they smile at you, you try to figure if it's a fake or genuine smile. lol most likely fake.

i don't think that's a smart move

well if they can use english and yoruba. that will be cool
Religion / Re: Predominantly Atheist Countries Have Lowest Crime Rate According To Study by WesleyanA(f): 9:47am On Mar 20, 2008
more like: PREDOMINANTLY WELL DEVELOPED COUNTRIES.
of course, richer countries will have lower crime rates. if the standard of living, security etc were generally high, there will be less incentive to commit crime. unlike here were the police is afraid of thieves and a lot of people are poor.

rich people also tend to slack off in faith (i think there is a parable about this in the new testament, the needle's eye i think or is it needle in the haystack).

I don't think the US is predominantly atheist. not even close. it's secular but not atheist.

Autos / Re: Lagos Brt, Riddicle To The Masses by WesleyanA(f): 9:19am On Mar 20, 2008

The bus was so overfilled that people were standing like the popular 'molue' in Lagos,

This happens everywhere. public buses are usually overcrowded during rush hours (early morning, evening) depending on when it is and where you are.
I live in the northeast, US and I stand on the bus 70% of the time with many other people in HS. the buses sometimes were so full some standing people were leaning on the back door (this is dangerous and drivers shouldn't allow that. lol)
Lagos is even more populated so I can imagine the situation but cut brt some slack. I don't think it's totally their fault.

the fares where high

I can imagine. lol
over here, they charge a higher price during rush hours. I guess they're trying to scare people off.
oh well I hope the price falls to the equilibrium of the supply and demand curve tongue

and primary as well secondary school children with uniform where made to pay the same expensive fares and stand all through the journey.

I had to do the same while in middle and high school. full rides are for kids ages 4 and under only in my city. there were school buses for middle school kids but other than that, I paid full fare throughout hs (4 years) students will get the fares from their parents.
The only exception where you get a reduced fare or free bus pass is if you live too far (over 3 miles) or if you have a disability.
students were also usually encouraged to get up for the elders. some do, some don't.
I'm sure there are plenty of primary schools in Lagos. parents should put their students in a school with close proximity (esp. primary school kids)

Lagosians should give brt a chance, I feel. Maybe brt should try to lower their prices a little too.
but i'm happy we finally have a public transport system. that's a good start.

I'm disappointed that this is coming from other blacks.

It's a shame if you feel yourself as a loser (or a servant rather than leader). but don't make generalization about all other blacks out there!

Romance / Re: Advantages Of Polygamy? by WesleyanA(f): 1:11pm On Jan 24, 2008
I felt very safe my dear, my Dad, God bless his soul was rich enough to give each wife a house, rides and all to make her comfortable. He had three wives and they all lived in different towns. He was working alot around the country so we the kids usually went for holidays wherever he was at the time. If you visited my home, you would never know about the other women. That was my father's style.

I have family friends from Polygamous home too and in their case they all lived under the same roof, from my observations things were ok. I personally believe that for those who have the money to take care of their wives and numerous kids, things were ok, but for the poor ones it must have been nasty. Money and understanding play alot in polygamy, without both the house will be on fire.

The women should be reasonable women, not vindictive witches. My step mums are educated, reasonable women, who by chance found themselves in their situation. I must say, we were lucky to have my Dad, who did provide adequately for all.Why he got into it, i do not know.WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.

wow. interesting.
how often did he visit you at your place?

the relationship you describe seem like the relationship kids have with divorced parents. they visit their fathers (whoever they're not in custody of) during the weekends/holidays.

do your parents love each other?

how often do you get to see your (half) brothers and sisters?

were your parents married before you and your siblings were born? traditional wedding? mosque?

I'm just curious.

b.t.w, i'm totally against Polygamy. it makes no sense to me. I think it should be illegal (if it already isn't)

Politics / Re: Is 419 in our genes? by WesleyanA(f): 12:03pm On Jan 24, 2008
Winnergal:

Hey, the question is obviously just a rhetorical one. Of course 419 is not in our genes. I am/was just wondering why we are famously known for our corruptive acts, that's if you know what i mean.

It is, trying to analyse why we do what we do.

I guess i was just tired of reading one more "nigerians are 419" topics. lol

good question.
I think one of the reasons is that advance fee frauds (419 scams) are very effective. they seem legit and the emails are sent to thousands of people that there are bound to be a few who fall for each one .I don't know why but the first time in my life that I got an e-mail like that, I thought it was REAL. of course i don't have money to reply to it and wouldn't have anyways 'cause i was a little indifferent to the poor guy who's family was murdered by abacha and wanted to save his money in my account. lol

Advance fee fraud didn't origniate with Nigerians but the digital (cyber) version did. or at least we're most famous for it.
It started in the 1990s by unemployed youths. it is cheap . . .you don't have to meet anyone all you need is to forge some documents, have an available computer and program to send mass e-mails to thousands of people at a time, so i guess it spread.
People in the US lost over 100 million dollars (reported cases only). that's a LOT of money so I guess they decided to create some mass awareness of the situation.

That's why we Nigerians are famously known for fraud. because of the mass awareness initiative by US and other foreign countries to prevent foreigners from falling prey (nightly news, CNN, immigration, etc). Even though I think they go overboard and do unfair damage to our country's reputation. ie. Oprah's infamous "All Nigerians are corrupt" quote. lol

hopefully in the next decade this would be history. . .

http://library.thinkquest.org/06aug/00446/AdFee_fraud.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_fee_fraud

by the way, we didn't make the list of top ten most corrupt countries (even though we are somewhere in the middle or upper bottom). And as it naturally should, corruption correlates with poverty and state of govt. etc

Nairaland / General / Re: Why Am I Greatly Bothered By Certain Forms Of Criticism? by WesleyanA(f): 10:50am On Jan 22, 2008
positive affirmation is what you need. I do agree that people criticize you A LOT. even though you don't deserve the criticisms considering your accomplishments.I don't see as much "well done" or "good job" comments

some people tend to to better when they are commended. while others perform better when they're criticized. undecided

people have different personalities i guess
Nairaland / General / Re: Why Am I Greatly Bothered By Certain Forms Of Criticism? by WesleyanA(f): 10:36am On Jan 22, 2008
Yeah criticism can hurt sometimes. especially when it's coming from family or close friend.
it also depends on what type of criticism though. like the untidy room comment. I would get upset if a stranger made that comment to me but would laugh if it was a friend and even ask him/her to help me tidy it up or something (he came to you for a favor right?)

I think you should learn to care less of other people's opinions (you probably care too much). I don't know but I tend to filter out positive comments and discard negative ones. I even convince myself that the haters are idiots. well they are. lol they're not worth loosing time and energy over.

In case of your parents though (yeah. I remember you had problems with them from 2 years ago i think) If they can't accept their child for who he/she is, then i guess it's their problem (no offense). They should be proud of you if they know your accomplishments (esp. with Nairaland) but sometimes one has to live for oneself rather than for their parents.

There are many people who live unhappy lives because their parents chose it for them (decided for them what school to go to, what type of degree to get, when to graduate, what type of person to marry etc).
If your parents criticize you for not doing what you feel is best for you. Or at least sympathize even if they feel you're wrong, then i don't know, but you shouldn't stress it.

surround yourself with positive people (like stillwater said) who understand your feelings, wishes and respect them. they may do things you don't like once in a while but thats normal because there are times they also will feel offended by you. but just make sure that overall, they are good friends. one disagreement should ruin a good relationship.

yeah i think you're a pretty sensitive person but better sensitive than cold-hearted.
Politics / Re: Is 419 in our genes? by WesleyanA(f): 6:11am On Jan 22, 2008
you should set up a DNA test center for us. Then maybe you can confirm your hypothesis.
your genes will be tested first for signs of fraud (419).

Politics / Re: Woe! To Nigerian Government. Ghana Is Now The Giant Of Africa! by WesleyanA(f): 10:14pm On Jan 20, 2008
naijaking1:

Your social engineering can't work. One of the main reasons why some US politicians want illegal immigrants is because they would swell the population and help pay the social security benefits of retiring baby boomers- quite the opposite of what you think.

Large population is always a blessing
, but it's left for a government to learn how to utilize everyone of them, that is the real task of a good government. All your arguement is based on the false premise that there would always be something to share, ie oil.

As people from the north push the truth and reality as far as they can, then certain things would become self evident. Inability to tax a wrongly calculated census figure is just the tip of the iceberg. The problem is not in the population but in the system of administration and management of that population.

I don't know the level of your education, but the issue of over population was answered 200 years ago during the industrial revolution by Adam Smith.

nobody said that China's one child per family policy is what's causing it's economic boom. Of course even with the boom, majority of chinese citizens are poor because there are just TOO many people for the wealth (available food, water, sanitation and other infrastructure) to go around. the cities are overpopulated etc. that's one of the reasons they needed the policy.

what we're trying to argue is that Nigeria is the population "giant of Africa" (which isn't necessarily a good thing)
economics wise, political stability wise,. . . we are NOT the giant. lol

of course, underpopulation is not a good thing either. Thats why many european countries and especially the US accept millions of immigrants each year. many whites give birth to a maximum average of 2 kids per family. The problem of underpopulation is worse in developed european countries. . .
its not because they want their population to exceed Nigeria, China and India's population combined but because underpopulation can be just as disastrous as overpopulation.

Underpopulation is usually defined as a state in which a country's population has declined too much to support its current economic system.
overpopulation deals with the total possible population that can be sustained by available food, water, sanitation and other infrastructure in a country.

we're not talking about the amount of people a land can carry. but the amount of people the economy can carry.

I don't know the level of your education, but the issue of over population was answered 200 years ago during the industrial revolution by Adam Smith.

Nigeria and many third-world countries aren't industrialized so I don't see your point.
only south africa, out of all African nations, is classified as industrialized.

we're the giant of Africa because we make the most babies. approx. 150 million ppl.
China's "one child per family" policy need to come to Naija quickly

1 out of 5 Africans is Nigerian. that's net negative. we shouldn't be so proud of overpopulation.

ifyalways:

irregular periods might be caused by :
smoking and drinking
significant weight gain/loss
drug and caffeine use.
over exercise and poor nutrition.
abnormalities in the uterus ed fibroids, cysts.
recent childbirth,abortion or miscarriage.
stress and emotional truama.

if yours is so serious/you are so bothered about it,go see a OB/Gyn to determine the cause.
you might go for a complete blood count test(CBC).cheers

thanks a lot Ifyalways. I don't think i have any of those conditions (maybe except stress) but then it has always been irregular since i started.
what do you define as regular period. do you have to see it in the same week every month?
