Education › Re: UNICAL Publishes Names Of 638 Students Withdrawn From The Institution by wharlz(m): 4:48pm On Jul 27, 2023 |
Bro O level(NECO WAEC) is a scam, 85% of secondary schools in Nigeria engage in exam malpractices in one form or the other (both public and private schools) students actually pay for what is termed logistics (expo). The only Exam that is fairly a true test of knowledge is (JAMB) and these so called students failed woefully. It tells a lot about the sorry state of our failing education system. You can't admit students scoring 140/400 (35%) and you expect them to do well. Forget WAEC and NECO. I believe what the government can do is to establish highly robust technical colleges for this students to acquire skills or learn trade. University education should be for the serious minded. Vifx: Why will the university withdraw the students for poor performance? These students studied and passed the secondary school certificate exams and passed JAMB exams and possibly passed the Unical post UTME before they were admitted to the university. It means they were qualified for university education.
During their stay in the university of Calabar, they were in various departments and faculties and were taking lectures on various courses by different lecturers in addition to other extra curricular activities of the university. What exactly did they fail to justify being withdrawn from the university? Did they fail in their attitude, knowledge or skills related to their chosen course of study?
There is the need to look into their failures beyond marks scored on cognitive tests and exams? Were they really taught well based on their learning abilities by their lecturers? Did the university provide them with the needed environment to truly learn?
If students are being punished for not passing exams, what should be done to lecturers for failing to help students to learn? Is teaching not about making someone to learn? If VCs, registrars, bursars, etc and lecturers were employed to make students learn and become useful to the society but the students were not made to learn, what should happen to them too?
Is learning and passing exams just the responsibility of students alone? Where is the place of teaching and non teaching staff in the process of learning by students? If no one else is held responsible for poor performance by students, then we should imagine a new future where the university will likely withdraw all students for poor performance but promoting their teachers for outstanding performance in their course of study.
There is the need for a system that other stakeholders in the education process will feel the pains of their students not passing their courses as well as the joy of their students passing well in their courses.
The primary mission of the university is the education of their students and the process of education involves teaching, learning and practicing of attitude, knowledge and skills. Where exactly did the students fail? In attitude, knowledge or skills or any of the combination?
What is the new future of these students who have been withdrawn from the university? What guidance is the university giving to them based on their identified capability? Are they all completely at zero in all the domains of learning or there are some ability areas in their announced disability?
The world has entered a new era with a new expression of education. We need to review our conventional product oriented education and seek a process oriented education. The final outcome examination is not enough to determine whether a student should remain or not. With the announced number of students withdrawn from the university for poor performance as the reason, the whole university should seek deep reflection on what is being done there. It is not good enough and the university is no longer adding to the growth of the society but to our down fall. Where are these students withdrawn to go to? Back to the secondary schools or to be thrown into the wider society where they will transfer their frustration to innocent citizens and institutions? What happens to the fees and charges that they paid? Will the university issue any form of certification to show what they passed in and what they failed to enable them seek admission elsewhere with more caring teachers and helpful environment or everything will be gone in one moment like this?
This is why the federal ministry of education and national universities commission under the federal executive council and the national assembly needs to look into the need for a National Universities Graduation Examination Council that should function like WAEC/NECO and empower universities to become students preparation institutions.
If the present announced withdrawal was in a secondary school, the students will have an option to take private lessons in their deficiency areas and register to take WAEC/NECO exams but in this case, the withdrawn students are surely frustrated and helpless. The worst situation is that they were not privately informed but have their names published on social media. How will they cope with the attendant discrimination in their families, communities and even other institutions as well as among their peers.
It seems our so called learner centered institutions of education are not learner friendly at all. The university needs to be re-examined again and seriously renewed if our children's future will depend on university education.

Thank you for being sincere, anything less than 200 should not be accepted at any University either public or private. FreeStuffsNG: O pari. After filling everywhere on their campus with JAMB candidates with 140 out of 400, what do they expect? The university of Calabar management is culpable!
It is completely unacceptable and disgraceful that a school that's been in existence for about 50 years and receiving FG subvention to subsidize education is admitting mediocre JAMB candidates with 35% failed score! NUC must sanction university of Calabar as I recommended here https://www.nairaland.com/7769271/re-unical-undergraduates-mass-failure
FG must stop subsidising mediocrity in UNICAL and other FG universities admitting mediocre JAMB candidates!
Employers of labour must blacklist UNICAL and all schools admitting mediocre JAMB candidates with less than 200 and above. Those schools are not serious! They should start with a school like UNICAL to send a strong warning to others.
University education is the highest level of education and it must be for only serious students. University education should not be about quantity but ONLY quality. The process of selecting those students is the most important step before the students get a stay in the university. Many of these ones expelled will remain on the campus for years without going home and will become a liability on the system.
Let's all get these students to be serious for God's sake. They are a privileged generation. Stop making lousy excuses for them! 140 out of 400 is a no-no. No university even has 35% as pass mark for undergraduate studies so why admit them when they have failed? It makes no sense and looks like you failed those students and scammed their sponsors. This would have been true if the print out format wasn't the outdated one. The print out looked forged, the month on the date was written in lowercase, the page layout is not well formatted. The QPR on it is linked to another candidate. Its ridiculous to say " it is obvious the girl saw a score of 362 initially", it seems naive of you to believe her by her oral claim. The message of a score of 362 in her phone is located at the sender side of the message. Which could only mean it was typed and sent by her. In fact all odds are against her. She didn't do her research well before pulling this off, and it backfired big time. Forget about glitches and malfunctions Asine: Exactly! There was a malfunction in the JAMB system and it is obvious the girl saw a score of 362 initially. I believe she later got a score of 249 but decided to stick to the first score she saw. JAMB should address the problem with their system giving some candidates different scores and avoid this problem in the future. |

plural: Dear All,
Welcome to the new year. I need the help of medical professionals in the house.
Background: My genotype is AA and in the last five years I have had a lot of history/issues with malaria. Fast forward to January 2013.
Between January 3rd 2013 and February 2nd, I have had about four different treatments for malaria. All these to no avail. Symptoms include Joint pain, fever, headache, weakness of the body.
-Treatment No 1: I went to the hospital and after tests it was confirmed that I have malaria. I was given a combination of drugs including 4 tablets of Fansidar. I can't remember the other drug I combined with Fansidar.
- Treatment No 2: When there was no relief from the first treatment, I went to the clinic in the Office and was given Lumether. This did not bring the desired results.
- Treatment No 3: I went back to the hospital and requested for a full test. The tests included Malaria, Widal, FBS, CBC, LFT, etc. After the tests it was confirmed that I still have malaria. I was given a combination of Artemether Injection (3days) and Camoquin tablets.
- Treatment No 4: I did not get relief from treatment no 3 I went back to the hospital. The doctor deduced that I might have resistant malaria and requested for more tests. The tests included Malaria and Hepatitis B. I was still positive for Malaria and negative for Hepatitis B. The doctor decided to put me on Quinine injection for 3 days and quinine tablets for 5 days. However, after taking the Quinine tablet for a night I vomited. I went back to the doctor who converted the Quinine tablets to Quinine injections. In total, I received six different doses of Quinine injection Morning and Night.
I feel better now. However, in case I am not fully out of the woods yet, what do I do?
Are there any alternatives, herbal or orthodox. Also note that in the past I have gone for HIV screening and tested negative. I have also not been exposed to it. In the past few weeks I have also started using insecticides inside the bedroom. I also fumigated the surrounding with Sniper
Best regards. good day pls how were you able to finally treat this resistance malaria and also prevent future infections |

Xking: Greetings! Please I need advice, early this month I've been having this malaria symptoms, so I went to the pharmacy and requested for malaria injection which they gave me arteta injection, felt better after it, after a week I started feeling same symptoms, decided to go for test did MP and Widal test. Mp2+ Widal 1/20 1/40, so I bought artemeta solft gel after finishing the dose I felt better for another week, then came started feeling same symptoms hence I decided to go for chloroquine with I finished and I started having blur visssion with tiredness, bought blood Tonic the blurry vision stopped after 2days.
5 days later started feeling same symptoms ( weakness, stomach upset, stooling, headache internal hotness and burning sensation) decided to threat typhoid ( used ceftriaxone injection) didn't really feel better, the burning sensation increased, weakness and headache.
Yesterday I decided to get amoxicillin 500mg, Omeprazole 20mg and claritomycin 500mg) based on my previous ulcer experience 2016 and I've never taken ulcer drugs since 2017. I'vee taken it this drugs 3times as at now , seems it's not working, please which test can I go for? Wanted to go for electrolyte and chemistry test today, so I said I should ask first.
Note: was taking this drugs based on my instincts. you are still suffering from the malaria parasite. Just like me, this ailment has been my greatest challenge, the bug seems to be developing resistance to the malaria drugs. Try concentrating on malaria diagnosis and treatment, you can visit a doctor. Malaria can render people ineffective. Constant fatigue and tiredness, stomach bloating, headaches, palpitations, low grade fever, body pains, confusion/unable to concentrate. I feel you pain. How is your health so far? Try going herbal also |

Even people with legit high scores in waec and jamb are being dropped from medical school not to talk of a dumb cheater. No matter how you wiggle your way in, you won't make it pass 100l in any standard institution. that's the more reason jamb performances are turning out outrageously poor, with the standard in admission processes been ridiculously low ( 100, 120, 140, some will even tell you as long as you took jamb). The supervisors, invigilators etc are all part of the equation (greed+money=corruption) we are the architect of our own misfortune. I once questioned a trusted high school known for its integrity and discipline on why they now engage in exam malpractices. They explained how they got queried by the then state governor for poor WAEC results. So, they had to join the bandwagon. Zico5: How will they stop it. The supervisors are part and parcel of the examination malpractices. There is no way they can stop students not to do expo. Though it can be reduced but to stop it is somehow difficult. Even some people participating in neco examination can testify to this. Some have seen the exam papers day before the exam. This is Nigeria, people will still find way no matter how hard it may be |

Big no!. For me WAEC should be scraped first, it as outlived it's usefulness, it's just certificate of attendance now. This is due to the high level of examination malpractices encountered now adays. Going round majority of public and private schools in my area, come and see examination malpractices everywhere. I mean they literarily write the answers on the board. The students have already paid a certain fee to the school authority to settle the examiners. Now as regard jamb! It's sad that CBT exams are conducted for several days against a day paper during the pencil and paper era, giving room for exam malpractices for lot of folks. And also giving room for system error, system failure, and most importantly unfair questions and grades. DocJoseph: JAMB made us Fail our Exams woefully. The low scores was Jamb making! Covid19 didn't caused any problem to the Jamb exams according to Jamb Officials. The 2021 Jamb low scores especially for Medicine candidates is from JAMB's incompetency. Jamb made us fail...why? Let me explain
1. 2020 Jamb was 3hrs (180mins for 180 questions), but this year 2021 was 2hrs( 120 mins for 180 questions). We didn't have enough time to write the Exam. After 1hr of the exam, we were told *Get ready to stop, less than 1hr to stop* and we rush to answer questions just to meet up with time, which was not like that last year, at least, if they shortened the time to 2hrs, they should've shortened the questions from 180 questions to 120 questions, but their mumu couldn't allowed them to apply their common sense. We rush and failed the exam, all because of JAMB incompetency. JAMB should be scrap, let universities handle their admission processes themselves.
2. Jamb didn't set questions from the Syllabus they gave us! They lied that they set questions based on the syllabus. I didn't see questions from the syllabus on iBASS. I was shocked, in fact, after finishing my exams, I knew that I won't score even up to 200, and it was so... Why did you give us Syllabus for the exam, but asked different questions outside the syllabus? That's wickedness and stupidity from Jamb, incompetency is the word here. During our struggle to get the Profile codes, it didn't stopped us from Reading our books... JAMB Oga made a Senseless comment that Nigerian Youths or Jamb candidates couldn't send their ordinary NIN to 55019... And I was so angry with that man for calling Nigerian students stupid... He made another statement that Candidates didn't read their books well that's why they failed woefully... Can you imagine that! Huh? Jamb should be scrap, let universities handle their admission processes themselves.....80% of those that scored 200+ was doing Runs...I SWA them myself, but I won't mention my Center.
3. Jamb was busy setting University questions for SSCE graduates.. (Why UME questions?). The questions seems simple or easy, but wen you choose the correct option, it turns out to be wrong answer according to our secondary knowledge. Why must Jamb set university questions for us? Are we university students? Is that not stupidity and Wickedness? How can you set WAEC questions for Nursery school pupils and you expect them to answer it correctly? Abi Jamb expected us to read University courses also because of their nonsense exams? Jamb should be scrap or Ban. Let universities handle their admission processes themselves...
4. For those that Wrote Physics last year 2020, it was 24 questions on calculations for each candidate, but there were just 6 calculations for me, and those questions were out of Syllabus and UME questions as confirmed from Jamb Oga.... How can you set questions on physics for Medicine candidates without calculations, how do you expect us to score high? When I saw my Score less than 200, as a medicine applicant, I was so angry and frustrated. Covid19 didn't caused anything...
For those that scored very high, some of them was following Myschool website. Let me explain. I noticed that a lot of Stupid candidates that wrote on the First day, they posted the Questions they saw. And others who haven't wrote took note of those questions. The candidates that wrote on the 2nd day also posted the questions they saw, and those that haven't wrote took note of those questions, they even mentioned the Options per each questions... Can you imagine how stupid some Jamb candidates are. If you want to confirmed what I said, click on this link and read the comments session, you will see what I mean. https://myschool.ng/news/jamb-2021-exam-experiences-and-questions-share-here
What they didn't know was that, those candidates that posted the questions they saw during their exams didn't know that All the candidates were writing the same questions, they fooled them into posting their questions for them to pass better than them.
We read our books very well, somebody like me, I started reading my textbooks (10 textbooks+pass questions) two months before Jamb form came out... but I couldn't score higher because there was no much Calculations for the medicine applicant that wrote Physics... Jamb should be scrap or Ban. Let universities handle their admission processes themselves.... So that at least, we will know that we are waiting university questions and not Ssce questions!!! Nigerian students are not stupid... We are brilliant, very brilliant, sometimes we are more brilliant than our teachers and lecturers.
I can never waste my money for Jamb again.... They wanted us to keep wasting our money to make them rich.... Jamb must be scrap!!! They've chop our money too much! You can imagine JAMB officials saying that we didn't read from the syllabus, that we were illed-prepared for the exams....what an insolent to great Nigerian students.... Abeg, support me, Let Jamb be scrap or Ban in Nigeria. They're not competent at all.... Even some of their questions are wrong with wrong options... Let universities handle their admission processes themselves.... Jamb should be scrap.
Some Candidates were into Runs in the exam Hall... They're so desperate to start school, that's why some of them that didn't write anything scored higher than me... I noticed 8 candidates in my row that didn't write anything, but scored higher than me. They just login and remained like that till exam finishes. I wonder how they scored higher than me. Or were they using Juju? Because after the exam, I saw those Jamb Staffs coming to whisper into their ears.... EMAL is too much in JAMB, that's why they keep closing down some CBT centers because of EMAL. I didn't score low because I don't know anything, but because I think the problem was from JAMB.... I know my Answers, I was very sure of my Answers.... Let Jamb be scrap.... Let universities handle their admission processes.
Though I had Admission in Unical 2008 to study Medicine, unfortunately for me, I dropped out because of school fees....now that I have saved some money for my Education, Jamb messed me up! I believe I will still become a Doctor without Jamb! Jamb Mumuism is too much...lols |

Apparently, people like you are victims of examination malpractices, and it's sad. This country as done nothing to curb this evil act. I have high regard and respect for those who wrote SSCE without any form of help. But sadly, this is not true for majority of SSCE candidates. From my perspective SSCE is just certificate of attendance to fulfill all righteousness. DocJoseph: ...... Don't mind the idiot.... A lot of candidates behind me just login and remained like that till the exams was over, and those guys in the Exams hall from the CBT centers came to them and was whispering to their ears.... My spirit told me that they doing Runs.... After the Exam, 8 of dem was so happy and laughing. I asked myself, these candidates supposed to be sad or crying since they didn't write anything, then why are they laughing and rejoicing? This is the same reason Many CBT centers were shunned by Jamb including E-library Uyo because of Exam malpractice, and that guy is talking rubbish.... Something he knows nothing about. Nigeria education is shit. Primary school pupils can now pass WAEC without breaking a sweat. Proliferation of higher institutions makes it worse, by admitting students who can neither read nor write. Scoring 100 120 etc in utme through guess work and still giving admission is absurd. It's equated to having a grade of 25marks (F) out 100marks. It's pathetic that we celebrate failure in this country. WAEC and NECO answers are literarily written on the board for candidates in 95% of schools in Nigeria. What a shame The downfall of this country can be pegged on our leaders, teachers and parents. am out! |

It's pathetic and gruesomely annoying that students are writing WAEC exam and literarily very few students (3%) are preparing by reading their books (note:in my town, Southwest to be precise). Nothing and absolutely nothing is being done by the parents, teachers and the government in addressing this issue. In fact they are directly in support, for several reason or the other. More importantly, they kind of enjoy the unfolding drama of the total collapse of Nigeria education sector. Our government are busy throwing shades at each other through self acclaim achievement, that their beloved state has the best SSCE results. This has lead to virtually all public and private schools apparently augmenting the upward impetus of examination malpractices. I believe something needs to be done fast. These are kids who will teach you children, children's children. |

How won't students fail when they are used to WAEC and NECO exam expo. The truth is that, it as become a norm for 70% of schools in Nigeria to collect money to help their students in this exam bodies. If you bring WAEC or NECO result to me I will throw it out through the window. It carries no value. |

What mass failure? jamb is just exposing the high rate of WAEC and NECO exam malpractices. WAEC and NECO has outlived it's purpose. |

I believe the government is intentionally indeferent about the whole situation since their kids school abroad. In Nigeria, education is no longer the key, and if it is! definitely the padlock must have been changed, meaning we have gotten the wrong key. Love ba tan!!!! The government is to be blamed This is because the government had failed in its responsibility. Scoring 200 in jamb in the bolded universities does not guarantee admission. So whether the cut off is 120 or 200, it doesn't guarantee admission. Ironically someone said that waec SSCE would be used to grade post utme screening.[/quote] |
Education › Exam Malpractices. WAEC And NECO Should Be Scraped by wharlz(op): 6:10pm On Jun 28, 2021 |
Students are now being charged separate fee for exam malpractices in most public and private secondary schools in Nigeria (70-80% from my projection). This is the reality we live in now. I have witnessed some schools making photocopies of the solutions and distributing it among exam candidates during WAEC exam. I have students around explaining to me that they have to pay certain amount of money compulsorily as "expo fees". Technically, secondary school certificate is dead. I knew it was over when jamb anounced 120 as cutoff in 2017. The kids now adays is all about social media. As for me,199 in jamb is failure. Anything less than average is not good enough. No more continuous assessment for student either to be promoted or repeat a class. Majority of secondary School students can't solve simple algebra or spell 4 to 5 letter words, yet their SSCE results is outstanding. Even universities had to lower the standard to accommodate this candidates. But some institutions like OAU, UI, UNILAG etc stood their ground, score 200 or nothing. What is the solution's. You can't tell me the exam bodies are in total Oblivion to the problem. |

One of the best sincere opinions out there. If we are to be honest with ourselves, majority of public and private schools (75% "my analysis though" now charge students substantial fees to help them in various SSCE. You can do your research all over the 36 states of the federation. It has never been this bad. Even in he late 90s through early 2000, we do hear or malpractices through macenery which was very risky to execute then. You will feel sorry for this country if Mark WAEC and NECO papers. It's disheartening, education is dead. I was surprise when a niece of mine told me are to pay for expo 'N4500 to be precise' this public school in ekiti. She even claim to be the best in her class for the fact that she can read and write. She has never opened a book to read in my presence except when writing note. They are hooked on social media and watching movies and football. It's sad. It's either WAEC and NECO should be scraped or we retrace our steps. Aroyjunior: Am impressed with what jamb did this year, the under18 of now Nigeria is producing would destroy this country, this kids don't read anymore they relay on expo for virtually everything, since waec is no longer an examination board it's a scheme where the supervisor want to make money, the owner of the school wants to make money, the teacher invigilator also wants to make money, this so called candidate and pupils don't read again rather they are ready at all cost to buy their way in to examination hall and pass, you see them with their phone distracted with the most stupid thing that is not suppose to be heard of,you teach them in class they talk about nudes, porn and the likes which could be so annoying........education doesn't measure anylonger.imagine those our days you want to do jamb your parents alone would be singing it like a song to your ears that you shouldn't fail, you your self that want to write the exam would have read past questions like die,but this ones never it's phone and them discussing about prostitute celebrities. Am happy with what jamb did. Finally I can mock them. |
