adanny01: I still opine that subsidy was and is not the problem. Refineries are the real problem. NNPC itself is another problem. The aim of subsidy is to stabilize the economy,
Tinubu insisted he removed subsidy but we know he couldn't have, if he actually did, our economy would have been in ashes. That's why 2012 didn't succeed. Both GEJ and Buhari saw it and retracted. Until we produce our petroleum products, subsidy will exist, anything else will result in an economic crash. No one wants to crash the economy of Nigeria. Tinubu has seen it but he failed in returning it quicker.
Mark my words, subsidy can only go away with functional refineries.
Any president who doesn't face squarely our refineries, will fail. That guy don't understand ...simple analysis .. Subsidies exists all over the world.. Its our own version of subsidy without local production that is the problem! We need to get the four local refineries working ... And get Dangote to complement what they are doing.... NNPC and those cabals know this ... Thats why they wont let those refineries work.... Thats the way forward ! |

emmanuelewumi: That is why having a good understanding of business valuation is very important. If a business of N1000 is selling for N300, why shouldn't I buy.
Apart from that strategic buyers buy in tranches, the cash flow for the purchase does come at once.
But if you have zero understanding of valuation you can use the charts I understand your point of business valuation..... But what valuation wont tell us is when or whether we will have buyers .... that will pay N1000 for the business you purchase at N300 .... So you have to wait it out on a long term horizon...1..2... 3.. 4 .5yrs probably 10years. hoping that there will be buyers to offer N1000/.... I got tired of the hope and the need to average down.... Sincerely average down is a function of how deep your pocket is .... Thats my turning point to TA ..... Folks should just use what works for them.... |

emmanuelewumi: He might not need a chart if he has done his homework, has a good understanding of the fair value of the business, the business is selling at a discount, there is a generous margin of safety and he is planning to hold for 5 years and above based on his understanding of the business. He might miss good opportunities to accumulate if waiting for the right signals.
By the way Warren Buffett does not use charts I admire your passion for Buffet style.. But I don't share same sentiments... Buffet has a large war chest.... invest in a sane environment , enjoy good coy corp governance practices... With sound regulatory framework and supervision... Unfortunately, we lack these core values of Buffet portfolio on the NGX... I agree with U that FA help you understand if a business is selling at a discount or not ... TA guides your entry and exit point by looking at the price action... As Agba succinctly place it ... TA makes you more efficient .... |

jidestroud: Good news!!!
I recently acquired an acre (6plots) land in Ogun state, lusada axis to be precise. I have been thinking of what to do with it, or rather, what aspect of farming I should use it for . Nevertheless, first thing first, the land needs to be secured and prepared for whatever crop farming i intend using if for.
Kindly join me as I take you through the process of setting up my this new farm of mine from scratch. Suggestions are highly welcomed. If you have funds ... Pls move to cattle fattening... Risk is low ...cattle can be raised on grass .. |

Mankind2024: A motivation for new members. 5. Investing is simple; you don't need to master complex charts - you're not a trader. Trading is difficult in NGX due to relatively low liquidity. You need chart ... to guide your entry ... and exit points Moving Average... Bollinger Bands...RSI ..Japanese Candlesticks etc are not complex... My 2 cents |

[quote author=IbeOkehie post=131613924]Dangote can't sell petrol at a loss and survive. He just can't produce at a cost of ₦1000 and sell to Nigerians at ₦600. Understand that.
Good Luck to Nigeria [/quote. Give Dangote the space to start first.. Don't frustrate him... Let the other four refineries come up.. ... Let their be a steady local supplies ...Import will reduce drastically.... It will not be profitable to import...Demand for forex will reduce...vos Dangote self dey buy for Naira.....How can we drill crude oil in Nigeria and ship it overseas to refine..is that not madness.. KarlTom: NNPC-NNPCL-OVH
I am glad that ‘The Truth’ about the tussle for the soul of the Petroleum Industry is beginning to reveal itself.
First, we find NNPC (a government/public company) transition to NNPCL (a private company) without any form of disclosure.
Next, NNPCL claimed to acquire OVH Energy Marketing (the second largest retail franchise at the time) to make NNPC Retail the largest retail franchise in sub-Saharan Africa.
Next, we saw is OandO plc (a debt-ridden company) buying out prime assets of an established company.
Next, we see NNPC Retail [literally] dissolved without being wound up and OVH Energy Marketing happens to be the resulting entity [a subsidiary of OandO plc]
In simple terms OandO plc has become probably the only fully established Integrated Energy Company in Nigeria.
All these might seem like a French roulette but it is a well-arranged domino…the final piece being a REFINERY! Anyhow they want to do it.... Na dem sabi... Let us get a piece of the pie... with our shares.. Thats the koko... |

nairalanda1: SO, stop complaining about what government does re subsides. Infact, stop grumbling about your government.
As for me, I see reality, and prefer reality. If our government is not seeing reality, what else can we do
Good morning. Reality from where...? From the pit of Hell.... Have you ever seen any sane country that dont have subsidy in one area or the other ... Its the Nigerian leaders that are greedy, corrupt and have leadership issues... Have a nice day |
Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Willie2015: 2:20pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Market price in this case is a price that is higher than the landing cost for fuel in this country (or a price that is higher than the cost of refining when Dangote et al come on stream)....that enables the seller to make a profit to keep on being in business of improting or refining so to speak. Ur model will bring chaos....confusion... Hunger and death ... How many Nigerians do you think will survive and live .... Assuming fuel get to N2k/Litre... with your profit model.... Knowing the fact that we are already the world capital of poverty... Ur model is unrealistic...wicked and dont have a human face... Even the Almighty US spends more than $30 billion a year on subsidies for farm businesses and agriculture.... |
Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Willie2015: 2:05pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Shortfall.....that's the word I have for you.
If there was no subsidy, fuel would cost N1300 or more by now. FG removed subsidy .... And yet it came back again ..... Na spirit Thats the angle you need to understand .... Its just not about market prices ..... Sell it at N1300... and above.... They will create another system to pay subsidy |
Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Willie2015: 2:01pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Nope, it is what you Nigerians , elite and the people want.
You get low oil prices, the elite make money from subsidy claims and smuggling...as do some of the general populace.
If you really want subsidy gone, you would support fuel being sold at market price. SImple. Absolutely wrong... Everyone agreed subsidy must go... Tinubu already removed the subsidy... So where is the problem coming from ......? |
Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Willie2015: 1:48pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
nairalanda1: The refineries have not been working because subsidy prevented the sector from making a profit (remember until 2013, diesel and kerosene were subsidised....as well as petrol...meaning every liter comming out of our refineries of diesel, kero and petrol lost money. Even jet A1 fuel).
As harsh as it sounds petrol costs money to refine, and must be sold at a profit to pay the costs, and salaries , and upgrades cost. Subsidy is a scheme put in place by Elites that... do not want the refineries to work .... It cannot act alone in itself... Remove the bottlenecks and let the refinery work first and foremost Four refineries plus Dangote is enough to do the magic... Price will find its true place with these factors in place .... Not the other way round... |
Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Willie2015: 1:16pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
nairalanda1: We don't have electricity and petrol because we sell them below the market price, in the name of subsidy, and have been doing so since the 1970's. . Its not about the selling price ... Its strictly about those who dont want refineries to work.. Let the four refineries be functional... And let Dangote Refinery also do his own part... Petrol will be available...at a good price.. |
Politics › Re: NNPC: We Are Selling Petrol At Half The Landing Cost — But It Is Not Subsidy by Willie2015: 12:59pm On Aug 20, 2024 |
GanagiBitrus: If this is not subsidy, then what is it?
Anyway whether you call it Shortfall or Palliative is not even the main issue. The major concern is that Govt should do everything possible to crash the price of fuel, which will in turn curb inflation. FG can only crash fuel price If refineries are functional... We all know that they are not interested ... |

emkz: While it seems criticisms of the president are apt, certain facts must be cleared.
The fact is that the president is being blamed for policies, but all presidential candidates agreed that subsidy on petrol needed to be removed. Even the messianic pontiff said he'd remove it on day 1. Suddenly, Tinubu is being condemned for taking the decision to save us from economic doom. It didn't make sense that we were borrowing to pay subsidies. Also, the removal of the parallel trade of fx was to tackle the fx fraud that drained our resources. Make you guys dey use your common sense now.... It takes Tinubu one single day to remove fuel subsidy... But it has become a rocket science to fix Porthacourt Refinery and other refineries... Even with a functional Dangote Refinery on ground... Its a tug of war for Dangote to get Crude oil.... Dangote has to call the FG and other players out... Simple solution and yet not done ... Who else are you going to blame ? Tinubu of course |

All Ogun former Govs who had a thing with this contract should be made to pay the Chinese company from their personal resources. Na to lien Ogun State monthly allocation. No problem for this one. |
