PoliticsGanduje Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty In A Law Court, Says Buhari by Wilstino(op): 9:26pm On Jan 31, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to claims that he is shielding Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kano State, from prosecution.

Ganduje was caught on camera pocketing wads of dollars, which appeared to be kickbacks from a contractor.

Although the Governor has claimed the videos were doctored, Jafar Jafar, publisher of Daily Nigerian, who shared the videos in public domain, insisted the videos were real.

Jafar was invited to face an investigative panel set up by the Kano State House of Assembly, but no major action has been taken against the Governor on the matter.

Similarly, when he appeared on ‘The Candidates’, a presidential town hall programme for politicians broadcast on live television, Buhari expressed doubt about the authenticity of the videos but stated that the law would take its course.

However, on Thursday, the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) berthed in Kano and Buhari was welcomed to the state by Ganduje, as well as thousands of party faithful. Buhari also endorsed Ganduje for reelection as governor of the state.

Responding to the reports that the corruption allegation levelled against Ganduje had watered down the President’s claim that he is fighting corruption impartially, a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity), issued on Thursday, restated Buhari’s commitment to the fight against corruption.

The statement read: “President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed claims that his association with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano has diminished his commitment to the war against corruption.

“The Presidency in a statement Thursday said that there is a difference between perception and reality. According to the statement, which followed comments after the proclamation by President Buhari of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, at a rally in Kano, the presidency cited a number of high-profile prosecution of senior government officials that a former Secretary to the Government and a former state governor who is a party member and now serving term in jail as indications of will and determination to wage the anti-corruption war without fear or favour.

“It also added that the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, is currently on administrative leave as part of President Buhari's commitment to transparency and accountability.

“The statement explained that despite some of the suspects being close to the President, he had not shielded them from investigation, administrative suspensions and prosecution.

“The Presidency added that it is sheer mischief to suggest that President Buhari is shielding anybody because of their closeness to him, explaining that no official under this administration would go unpunished once they break the law.”

On the allegations of corruption against the Governor, the statement added: “On the specific issue of Governor Ganduje of Kano State, the statement noted that Dr. Ganduje, as a sitting Governor, enjoys immunity from prosecution in his own right. Furthermore, under Nigerian laws, a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“In the circumstances, the matter is in court and the President has no power to dictate to the court or the Kano State House of Assembly, which is already investigating the matter, about what to do with the allegations against Ganduje.

“The Presidency added that it is unfair to ignore the larger picture of the President's major successes in the war against corruption, including blocking leakages of corruption, which in turn, boosted government revenues.

“The statement challenged President Buhari's critics to prove that those facing corruption allegations are innocent, adding that the President's zero tolerance for corruption has boosted and remarkably improved Nigeria's image in the eyes of world leaders.”

What I heard and understood him say was that he will consider granting amnesty for them to return the loot and he will 'Draw A Line...'why are they not including that. He didn't say he will grant amnesty and allow looting to go on.... He cited Turkey as a reference I.e how successful such policy was for the country.

PoliticsRe: The Candidates: Why Peter Obi's Analogy Using VAR Is Wrong. by Wilstino: 11:35am On Jan 31, 2019
livelymatilda22:
The video assistant referee (VAR) is a football assistant referee who reviews decisions made by the head referee with the use of video footage and a headset for communication.

Peter Obi said and I quote ..

"The referee (Obasanjo) having consulted the VAR system has reviewed his earlier decision and has now decided that the player (Atiku) did not commit a foul"
"Referees also make mistakes in their decision but they can go back and check the VAR to make correction in situations where they make mistake...."

But earlier in the day, Obasanjo made this statement in Lagos while speaking at the 2019 Island Club Quarterly Business Lecture.

Obasanjo said and I quote....

“I have been called names because of my position on Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa.

“Everything I have said as far as I have knowledge of Atiku, I have not retracted and I stand firmly by them because they are to the best of my knowledge true.

“And neither has what I have said and written about Buhari been controverted, if anything, they have been confirmed and proved beyond any shadow of doubt.

https://politicsngr.com/just-can-vouch-atiku-anywhere-obasanjo-reasons/

Conclusion : Obasanjo never said he lied about Atiku. He only said Atiku has apologized to him and Nigerians and he has forgiven him...

VAR is meant to review decision only.. it doesn't forgive.. Like Obasanjo said yesterday, That he forgave Atiku, does not in any way mean what he said was wrong and have been retracted.

SICK NIGERIANS STILL DEFENDING DIS THIEF OF A DIRTY NIGRO..

SAI BABA BUHARI
Everyone has a right to fair hearing. He is not guilty of the alleged crime until determined and pronounced by a competent court of law.

For your knowledge and for other ignorant ones here, failing to declare and asset is not a crime as per our law. The law requires the the code of conduct bereau bring such finding to your attention and if you admit you forgot and own up to, it is to be attached to decleration and case closed. The law doesn't state any further action except otherwise.
PoliticsRe: Onnoghen: My Life Is Under Threat - Dennis Aghanya by Wilstino: 5:49pm On Jan 28, 2019
Konquest:
How did Onnoghen get $3million undeclared in his 5 domiciliary
accounts as far as 2011? This is over N1 billion in his account.

Some of Walter Onnoghens's collegues who have worked for over 50 years in
the legal system don't have up to $10,000-$20,000 in their bank accounts!

Onnoghen has to prove the source of this and obviously he will have to
remain suspended. Right now he is still the substantive CJ, but on suspention.
A new acting-CJ is now in his place.

Dennis Aghanya's anti-corruption moves must be applauded by all Nigerians
around the world instead of these corrupt people criticising him
and trying to shield him because they will be exposed as well!

Security agents must move to protect him until agents of corruption
in the Judiciary and in politics who pervert justice are brought to
book.
This absolutely a lame thing to say. The fact that his colleagues does have such amount does not mean he can't have it. What if he bought a land in ikoyi or maitama back then and later sold? I'm sure you know amount... I am not holding brief for him but all we are advocating is for due process and rule of law to prevail. If the appropriate channel and process were follow no one will complain and surely he will face the law as required.

can thief onnoghen invistigate himself?
The law clearly stipulates who can judge his case I.e. the NJC. The public outcry by notable Nigerians and international community is because this action sets a dangerous precedent and truncates democracy. No one supports wrong or shields wrongs but people are advocating for due process and rule of law that's all.
PoliticsRe: Ijaw Youths Disown Embattled CJN, Say South-south People Are Not Corrupt by Wilstino: 9:13am On Jan 27, 2019
Useless people. The North can never disown their own no matter his crime. Even buhari defended Abacha despite the glaring evidence of loot and embezzlement of public fund...my people wise up.

Of course, a wrong is a wrong, but the manner the wrong is allegedly corrected, is the bone of contention and cause for suspicion. Let the law of the land take its due course, without unnecessary interference due to obvious ulterior motive.

'We all have a duty to oppose and resist it, not for the sake of Justice Onnoghen, but for the sake of posterity and the verdict of history. We should not excuse or defend this crass impunity because of political expediency.' Effiong

[quote author=modath post=75118721]Atiku should ask for a refund from the people that sold Dubai strategy to him, these people hate PDP deep down cos all they've succeeded in doing is make their affinity and obsession with corruption & grand larceny so obvious at each and every turn.

PDP won't stop making sane & fair minded people laugh, CJN admitted to "forgetting" to declare over $3m (and counting) and "they've turned that into a CONSTITUTIONAL MATTER" rather than distancing themselves from the drama, they have decided to carry it on dem head like expired gala for inside go slow...

My friend, let us be objective regardless of our political inclination and for the sake of the future democracy. This is a dangerous precedent. No one is arguing whether he did it or not, the point is that there is a constitutional process for removing CJN which the government has failed to follow, perhaps due to its ulterior motives. It is not about PDP but our democracy.

Wallade:
Honestly, I had to dump the euphoria of Atikulated Obitious for some time to try to understand and reason with this man but it became glearing after a while that Nigeria is really in a precarious situation with this Buhari hopeful for another 4 years. He sounded clueless and disconnected from our world. He could hardly comprehend the questions, he couldn't give clear, emphatic and concise answers to the questions.
His IQ is obviously low and I can not imagine this man managing a business effectively talkless of administering a country.

I feel really sorry for Nigeria. This is sad and almost tragic. On a more serious note, people please drop the party affinity and partisanship mood; honestly we need to retire Buhari to Daura or whereever, he has little or nothing to offer us.

Today, I feel terribly ashamed to be a Nigerian; to think that we voted this barely-living-dull-uninformed-thing to be the president of this country in 2015 is a remarkable error that must never be repeated.
Apparently it seems Mr Trump was right in his assessment.
