Key players and leaders in the international community have warned President Muhammadu Buhari not to run for a second term but he has refused to listen. That is why he was in the United Kingdom for 16 days.
Really? Do foreign powers have that much say over whom Nigerians select as their leader? Whatever happened to Nigeria's sovereignty as an independent Nation??

PoliticsAmosun’s Brutal Steps by WisdomFlakes(op): 6:31am On Aug 20, 2018
https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2018/08/19/amosuns-brutal-steps/

It took many by surprise when Senator Adeola Solomon, a.k.a. Yayi, reportedly withdrew from the governorship race in Ogun State.

Until the news broke, he had committed a lot of resources, both human and financial, towards the actualization of his dream.

But Society Watch can authoritatively reveal that Yayi was forced to drop his ambition in the face of stiff opposition from the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Amosun is alleged to have used his closeness to President Muhammadu Buhari to put a spanner in the works of Solomon, whom he sees as a thorn in his flesh.

At various fora, Amosun had reportedly declared that Yayi would never succeed him at the Government House, no matter how hard he tried. Though many have taken umbrage agaiinst the governor, he seems unfazed, relying on his closeness to the President.

Society Watch gathered that a few days ago, Amosun approached Buhari and the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, requesting that they restrain Yayi’s ambition.

“I would say he resorted to blackmail as he urged Buhari to order Yayi to drop his governorship ambition in Ogun State. He told the President that Tinubu should be able to command Yayi to go back to the Senate from Lagos since he is one of his boys.

“Amosun pointed out that since Asiwaju Tinubu is in charge of reconciliation in the party, he should be able to talk to Yayi to drop his governorship ambition and go back to the Senate.

“He also told Buhari that the party should not continue to allow people like Yayi to disturb the peace of the party in Ogun State and that he should allow him to shop for a successor from the party,” said a source.

The source added that Tinubu told the Buhari that if what Amosun wanted was for Yayi to drop his governorship ambition, he had no choice than to cooperate with him.

It was also revealed that Tinubu informed Buhari and Amosun that the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, would be asked to drop his ambition of going to the Senate from Lagos West.

According to the source, Tinubu stated that he only “rescued Obanikoro from the mess in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)” and that it was not a do-or-die affair for him to move to the Senate now.

Consequently, Buhari and Tinubu were said to have resolved that Yayi should drop his governorship ambition and allow Amosun have his way of producing the party’s candidate for the 2019 governorship election in the state while he (Yayi) should be allowed to return to the Senate from Lagos West.

The deed has been done. Ayefele should cut his loses and move on. I am sure he will defintely bounce back. But next time he should toe a more diplomatic line because I feel he was trying to whip up public sympathy against the impending demolition when he could have adopted a more diplomatic posture.

Listen, I would also like to have such world-class infrastructure as you showed in those pix, but I am only being realistic about the way Nigerians would largely view it. Folks like you and I are in the minority while the loudest critics of such projects would be in the majority. Even Lagos that is trying in that department of embarking on world class infrastructure get criticized bitterly along those lines on this very forum. And speaking of Akpabio stadium, not everybody in the state felt (nor still feel) it was necessary for him to build it in the first place -- to some it was a misplaced priority (though personally I like it).

APC really mean Wike for Rivers o. This shouldnt come as a surprise since Wike is the major financier of PDP in the country without whom PDP would not have been able to pull a major comeback on the political scene. He is the 'head of the snake' that controls things in PDP. But Amaechi self get mouth o. It is no mean feat to snatch two senatorial seats from a PDP huncho of Wike's calibre.

PoliticsObiano ‘Police’ Learn Martial Arts To Tackle Revenue Defaulters by WisdomFlakes(op): 9:14am On Aug 18, 2018
Published August 18, 2018

Tony Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Government has trained members of the ‘Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra Brigade’, also known as Obiano police, in the martial arts, especially taekwondo, to tackle revenue defaulters and related offenders in the state.

Obiano who stated this on Friday during the graduation of eight officers of the OCHA brigade, said he would not relent until criminal elements in the state were shown the way out.

He said the establishment of the OCHA Brigade and other related bodies was targeted at assisting the government to fight miscreants and stop them from tarnishing the image of the state.

The governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Primus Odili, commended the vibrancy for which the OCHA brigade was known for and urged them to sustain the standard.

He pledged government’s continuing support of the organisation, urging the officers to reciprocate the gesture by living up to expectations.

He said, “The governor can’t create this organisation and allow it to fail. It is his interest to see you succeed because your success is his. But he also needs to see you put in your best.”

Speaking, the Managing Director and Superintendent General of the agency, Mr. Pat Obiefuna, described the training as timely, saying it was targeted at disarming miscreants that constitute nuisance to the state.

He said, “Your acquisition of these special skills is coming at a period we are consolidating the gains of several intensive operations which this brigade has participated.

“The training has equipped you to face the criminals out there, including illegal toll collectors and street traders, indiscriminate refuse disposers, among others.”

He commended the trainees for their interest in the skills, assuring them that the training, which he described as the first of its kind, would be a continuous exercise.

PoliticsRe: It Is Time To Make Peace In Rivers APC – Magnus Abe by WisdomFlakes: 5:24am On Aug 18, 2018
It seems someone or people may be sponsoring this Abe fellow in order to divide APC in Rivers and in effect undermine Chibuike Amaechi's influence in the state. While some may be quick to blame Wike, that may not turn out to be the case. What is certain is that Abe is ready to polarize APC in Rivers over his ambition. And per chance that he becomes governor, he will readily defect from the party to further weaken it.

But this shouldn't come as a surprise because in politics and democracy betrayals are like 5 & 6. E.g, El-Rufai switched camps from being an Atiku loyalist to Buhari loyalist all because of political Ambition, Rochas is having to fight his erstwhile loyalists in Imo to remain influential, OUK and T. Orji, Peter Obi & Willie Obiano, Tinibu and some of his former loyalists, Akpabio & Udom, and the list goes on. Politics is too dirty.

There was palpable tension in Oba Aguleri in Anambra East local government area, Anambra state following alleged gruesome murder of a native doctor by a man suspected to be mentally unstable in the area.

The murder was said to have triggered protest leading to destruction of properties worth millions of naira while business activities were apparently shut down in the area.

The Nation gathered that trouble ensued when the native doctor [name withheld] tied a goat bought for spiritual sacrifice to a tree and went into the market to pick other items, but could not find it soon after his return.

A resident of the area, who preferred anonymity, said the native doctor enquired about the whereabouts of his sacrificial goat as soon he noticed its sudden disappearance.

“He was informed that a wandering madman untied it and took it to his house few kilometers away.

“They gave him direction on how to reach the lunatic’s house and he went straight to the place without fear of attack as he relied on the efficacy of his charm.

“When he got there, he met the madman already making advance plans to slaughter the goat for a meal.

“While he was still demanding to know the reason the madman took his goat, he quickly dashed into his room and came out with a machete.

“The native doctor took to his heels on sighting the machete in the hand of the madman,” he said.

The resident who said the mad man ran after the native doctor, however said the madman caught up with him and macheted him severally after he fell down.

“The native doctor bled to death before help could reach him,” he added.

The Nation further learnt that irate youths in the area immediately mobilized and headed for the madman’s house to avenge the killing of their kinsman.

It was also gathered that the crisis would have degenerated to further communal crisis but for the prompt intervention of security operatives who arrived the scene following a distress call.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident, saying the suspected murderer and three other suspects had been arrested, linking the rampage to the death of the native doctor.

His words, “the man that killed the deceased had been arrested with three others making a total of four suspects “.
