This is good move from PDP... I have always known that one day GEJ will be vindicated from all the hideous propaganda fabricated against him by APC press to satisfy their gullible supporter. Publish the handover note and allow the masses judge |
By Emman Ovuakporie & Johnbosco Agbakwuru ABUJA—- THE House of Representatives, Tuesday, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to publish the handover note of the former President Goodluck Jonathan for the people to have the first hand knowledge of performance of the past administration. The House resolved that publishing the handover note would help to access the performances of the past administration as well as helping the public to know whether the country moved forward or backward in the life of the administration. The mover of the motion, Rep. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, PDP, Abia State, had in the motion stated that it was the right of Nigerians to know what was in the handover note, noting that for now, the handover note was only known by government officials. He also said that it would help to ascertain the position of the treasury when the last administration handed over to the present one and also the level of problems inherited by the government in power. Abonta further stated that the essence of the handover note was to institute transparency and accountability in governance, adding that it was in line with the philosophy of President Buhari. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/why-reps-asked-buhari-to-publish-jonathans-handover-note/ |

Nigeria’s wartime leader, Gen Yakubu Gowon, says “Nigeria is better off with Igbos.” He spoke while delivering an oration at the burial service for Chief (Mrs.) Chinyere Asika, wife of the former Sole Administrator of East Central State; just as the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, described the deceased as a woman who exemplified the virtue of patience, charity and humility. The service took place at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral, Onitsha, Anambra State. Gowon’s declaration was borne out of a deep appreciation of the commitment and sacrifice of the deceased and her husband, Ajie Ukpabi Asika, to the survival of Nigeria as one entity. The former Head of State recalled that when he proposed the post of Sole Administrator of East Central State, Asika told me, “I prefer to do this for the good of Igbo people.” He went on: “I was struggling to get an administrator for the newly created East Central State when the name of the late Ukpabi Asika came up. He was then a lecturer at Ibadan. When we met, I did not know which one of us was younger. But he exuded strength of character and understanding, and wanted to start work immediately. I cautioned him to think about it. I told him, `you must consult your brothers, and your wife to know if you would accept’. I came away convinced that this was the man I needed. “I did not know how to place his wife, Chinyere, but when she arrived from Kenya, she plunged head-on into the idea. She was a courageous woman, caring and humble. I remember her efforts in “Otu Olu Obodo”- a public service initiative which she used as a tool of empowerment for her Igbo kinsmen and women.” Obiano told the children and the Asika family to imbibe the virtues of patience, charity and humility from Mrs Asika, while urging the congregation and Ndi Anambra to remember “her good deeds and pray for the repose of her soul.” The service was attended by many prominent personalities including a former Minister of Defence, Gen T.Y. Danjuma, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/gowon-we-are-better-off-with-igbos/ |

*Express worries over exchange rate, resolve to meet President By Henry Umoru ABUJA — THE 36 state governors cried out, yesterday, over the worsening economic crises in the country and the failure of the Federal Government to release to them the bailout promised by President Muhammadu Buhari sometime ago. The governors, who operate under the aegis of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, at their meeting which started Wednesday night and ended in the early hours of yesterday, complained that the comprehensive relief package designed by the Federal Government to salvage the economic crisis of the states was yet to get to them. The governors also expressed concern over the exchange rate of the dollar to the naira as well as other foreign currencies which has affected the nation’s economy. President Muhammadu Buhari They have, therefore, resolved to meet the President again over the issue. It will be recalled that President Buhari had approved a $2.1 bn intervention package to help bankrupt states pay salaries. Twelve of the 36 states of the federation were said to be owing their workers more than $550 million in salaries and allowances, with some workers not paid for seven months. Briefing journalists after the meeting, chairman of NGF and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, said that the Federal Government has not bailed out any state under the bailout arrangement as publicised, stressing that what the state got so far was the monthly allocation from the Federation Accounts, Allocation Committee, FAAC and the dividends from Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG. Governor Yari said: “This is also to inform our friends in the media that the Federal Government has not given any bailout to any of the states. What had been shared the last time was monies from NLNG and FAAC. As we have been saying, rather than look out for bailout, we have been looking for all monies that are in the coffers of the federation to be brought together for the purpose of sharing. “The CBN governor raised some issues that taking the monies from those accounts, most especially as our reserves are going down, will affect the exchange rate and as well put pressure on the naira. So they decided to make the naira available or its equivalent so that these can be taken as loan for some of the states that are complaining about payment of salaries. “The Federal Government has, however, not given out any bailout yet. But we have been deliberating on how best the intervention will be done quickly so that we will be able to settle the issue of salaries and other operations of government in the country.” According to him, the resolutions reached at the meeting were: *To discuss with Mr. President to seek lasting solutions to the worsening macroeconomic challenges confronting the nation, especially on foreign exchange stability. *The forum pledges to work with Mr. President to ensure coherent policy actions that will create a clear policy direction for the country and stimulate domestic production. *To collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure that the National Health Act is operational and the on percent funding for primary health care is provided for in the budget. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/were-yet-to-receive-bailout-promised-by-buhari-govs-lament-2/ |

aariwa:Looking at your first question, I have never heard of affidavit of investigation. what's need to be done is charge the accused to court after investigation and provide the court with compelling evidences discovered during investigation incriminating the accuse. The onus is on the court to decide if the evidence tendered is enough to convict the accused. In the second question.. The prosecution is mandated to provide the defence counsel with all evidence obtain against the accused during investigation.. This is in other to help him prepare his defence brief . #Myopinion |
By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA-Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Chibudom Nwuche has urged President Mohammadu Buhari to remove oil subsidy, saying that is the only way to tackle corruption. Nwuche said that the continued subsidization of petroleum products will only benefit the rich while the supposedly poor masses get poorer. The former Deputy Speaker spoke to Journalists in Abuja at the weekend. He called on the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN and the organized labour to support the president for the removal of the subsidy. According to him, the subsidy does not also benefit most people in the south east and south south zones of the country. He said: “I used to be in the Oil and Gas sector before going into politics. I believe that subsidy is not good for Nigeria. I say this without bias in the sense that those who benefit from the subsidy are not the poor. It is those traders who engaged in slope, who engage in round tripping that benefit from the subsidy. “Which subsidy of petroleum products? People are buying the products above the controlled price. I don’t think you can buy AGO at the official price in Ekeremor or in Ahoada. “The price is determined by the middlemen and the dealers. So the subsidy they are paying is to enrich those people to buy private jets at our expense. IPMAN and the rest of the Labour unions should come together and support the president to remove subsidy. It is a waste of money. It is fraudulent. It is allowing corruption.” Nwuche who was a former Federal Lawmaker between 1999 and 2003 also appealed to present Buhari not to forget the people of Niger delta in his government. He specifically urged him dredge the Calabar sea port and site projects in the zone to develop the area. “We want the Buhari’s government to see our people from the South-South as his people. The South-South has traditional alliance with the north until today. That alliance was strengthened from Tafawa Balewa’s time. Our people will give his government all the support he needs to realise his objectives for Nigeria. In return we want him to take us as his own and assist us to site projects in our area. “To empower our youths, many of whom are jobless and to empower our businessmen who didn’t get any patronage from the government for so many years. For instance, if you look at the South-South, the major road from the Refinery in Portharcourt to Bayelsa, Yenagoa to Benin the road is not good, nothing has been done and as far as Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers State, the road is in a total disrepair. “We urge him to assist us to make that road function. And there is also the issue of Calabar Sea Port which is important to us. Our traders have to land their goods in Lagos and then pay an additional cost by road to take them to Portharcourt and the East. That is not necessary. We want them to dredge the Calabar port and make it functional to be an International Sea port like in Lagos. It will help Nigeria and it is also even nearer to some parts of the North than Lagos. Those from Benue State doing business get their goods from Lagos. “If the Calabar port is made functional, they can get their goods from there, likewise some parts of the North. So our priorities should be to dualize and repair the road from Calabar to Akwa Ibom through Aba to Portharcourt, then through Ikot Abasi to Portharcourt and then from Portharcourt to Bayelsa to Edo State. “These are the major routes in the South-South and that is where the oil production and distribution to all parts of the country is carried out. He should also ensure that our people are given their fair share of appointments at the federal level because we are one country and we have our own problems in the South- South”, he said. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/subsidy-does-not-benefit-the-south-east-nwuche-tells-buhari/ |

Agents of the federal government on Thursday night arrested suspected masterminds of Radio Biafra, a broadcasting platform calling for the secession of the south-east from Nigeria. The signals were also reportedly jammed after initial failed attempts, but the station is still broadcasting on the world wide web, making it practically impossible to block its broadcasts. On Friday, it announced that it had launched another station, promising to launch 50 others. According to checks by TheCable, another radio station called “Biafra 24 Radio” has hit the airwaves pushing the same message of “freedom of Biafraland”. The radio station said it is running with the motto of “bringing Biafra closer”. Radio Biafra in its Friday morning broadcast promised to launch 50 other radio stations to push for the “freedom of Biafra”. Both Radio Biafra and Biafra 24 radio were live online as at Friday morning, while residents of Port Harcourt, Rivers state, were said to be having difficulty accessing the station. Joseph Udofia, one of the residents who spoke to TheCable, said of all the stations broadcasting in Rivers, none is Radio Biafra. “The 97.6FM was the former frequency (and) they claim to have moved to 102.1FM, but I can authoritatively say that nothing is being broadcast on that frequency now,” he said. The location and local frequency of Biafra 24 Radio could not be ascertained. Earlier, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) through the permanent secretary of the ministry of information, Yemi Folasade-Esan, said the commission had jammed signals of the station. The station came out almost immediately to debunk the claim. Radio Biafra, which refers to Nigeria as a zoo, said the government is being unfair to them, claiming that Buhari promoted “Radio Chanji” when he was seeking power. “Radio Chanji was floated by Buhari and the APC, unregistered, to oust (President Goodluck) Jonathan. Yet Radio Biafra is registered and they want to stop us. Why do you need the United Kingdom, the United States, Israel to stop Radio Biafra?” the on air personality queried. He accused the government of trying to sabotage its operations by telling Tune-in Radio, an online platform, to shut down Radio Biafra. “The government told tune in to shut it down, what they do not understand is that tune in is just one of several listening ports. Tune in after much pressure have now restored Radio Biafra back to their platform,” he said. https://www.thecable.ng/another-radio-biafra-station-goes-air-fg-arrests-suspected-masterminds www.dailypost.ng/2015/07/17/radio-biafra-launches-biafra-24-radio-plans-50-other-stations/ |
