CelebritiesGay Couples: Sir Elton John And David Furnish Marry (photos) by Wisdytech(op): 7:47am On Dec 23, 2014

Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish have formally converted their civil partnership to a marriage – with the musician documenting the day on the Instagram website.

The couple have been hosting a ceremony at their Windsor estate in Berkshire with a number of stars in attendance.

David and Victoria Beckham, musician Ed Sheeran and actor David Walliams were among the guests.

Mr Furnish and Sir Elton, who have two sons, became civil partners in 2005.

The couple’s sons Zachary, who was born in 2010, and Elijah, born last year attended the ceremony.

One image – showing the newlyweds holding hands, with Elijah standing between them – bears the caption: “Zachary grabs David’s iPhone and takes a photo of his brother while we exchange our vows.”

Sir Elton has been including the hashtag #ShareTheLove on his posts on Sunday.

Friends of the couple have also been using the tag, with the Beckhams’ eldest son Brooklyn writing: “Amazing day with family and special friends congratulations Uncle Elton and Uncle David #ShareTheLove.”

The teenager posted a photograph of the wedding lunch menu, which included wild mushroom soup with truffle cream, beef short rib and caramelised onion pie and warm chocolate pudding with ice cream. Guests were served Laurent-Perrier champagne.

Sir Elton has posted a number of pictures to the photo-sharing website, where he has thousands of followers, including a picture taken at a window showing a garden, with the caption: “Good morning! Nice day for a wedding”.

He later wrote: “The tables look stunning! We had red roses at our Civil Partnership 9 years ago and they brought us so much luck.”

On 21 December 2005, they held a civil partnership ceremony at the Windsor Guildhall.

In March, the law was changed in England and Wales to allow same-sex marriage.

Sir Elton said at the time he was “very proud” of Britain for changing the law.

“Having our civil partnership was an incredible breakthrough for people that have campaigned for a long time – through the 60s and the 50s in England when it was so hard to be gay and hard to be open about it. And it was a criminal act.

“So for this legislation to come through is joyous, and we should celebrate it. We shouldn’t just say, ‘Oh, well we have a civil partnership. We’re not going to bother to get married’. We will get married.”

Celebrities gave their reaction on Twitter. Gary Barlow wrote: “What an incredible day.” Graham Norton said: “Huge congratulations to Sir Elton John and David Furnish. Married at last!!”

Walliams said it was a “magnificent” day, while Hugh Grant tweeted: “Groom Groom – Britain races into the future. Congrats Elton and David. Congrats enlightened UK.”

Guests also included singer Lulu, Burberry chief executive Christopher Bailey, as well as comedian Jimmy Carr who tweeted: “#ShareTheLove at the beautiful wedding of two beautiful people. Wishing Elton & David every happiness. X”.

CelebritiesI Was Molested By A Priest In High School – Lola Omotayo by Wisdytech(op): 1:16pm On Dec 22, 2014
Wife of Psquare’s Peter Okoye, Lola Omotayo has revealed how she was molested and sexually abused as a teenager.

While addressing a group of young ladies at a Kinabuti event, which held recently in Lagos, the mum of two and career woman said she was molested when she was in high school – by a priest – and for the longest time she blamed herself and kept quiet about it because she did not think anybody will believe her.

“When I was a young girl in my early teens in high school, I was molested by a catholic priest, I blamed myself, I didn’t tell anyone because I was ashamed, couldn’t tell anyone because everyone would blame me, so I carried on the guilt and bitterness with me for years. I was filled with hate and I became an angry person, I was rebellious, I didn’t want to listen to anybody…and because I wanted to be expelled from school to avoid seeing this person, I would do so many terrible things, everything around me was just so negative, I felt I wasn’t good enough”.

On sexual abuse, she said “I moved on to the university, met the love of my life and I’m like, okay this guy is cool, he loves me but he started to abuse me. I was beaten black and blue all the time, in front of friends, in public and at a point, I felt, you know what, I am not worthy enough, there is nothing about me that is nice, nobody loves me but I hid this from my family. I felt like a loser, so it was hard for me to focus. But one day, I woke up and said I am going to change my story and I dumped that person, focused on my education and decided to be serious and be something. I decided to get a job and go to school full time in America”.

According to her, she worked to make her own money to avoid depending on her parents.

“I worked hard, my parents were sending me money because I didn’t tell them I was working but I was working because I wanted to be independent. I didn’t want to depend on any man or on my parents even though they would have done everything for me, so I did all sorts of job and that way, I built my confidence and today I am accomplished.”

She further mentioned her husband and cited him as an example: “Look at my husband, when I met him, peeps were like what are you doing with him, he has nothing but I stood my ground and chose to stick with him because he had a dream. He and his twin brother did not let their dream die, they worked hard, look at them today! I stuck by him because he had focus and drive and today I am happy, I have a good life, we are happy and we have got a beautiful family. No one can make you a loser.”

She concluded by advising young ladies not to give up on their dreams.

“You shouldn’t let your past determine what your destiny will be, we all have our past whether good or bad, we all had a life that we lived that we are not happy about, you shouldn’t let it bother you from succeeding. You can be whatever woman you want to be but you have to believe in yourself, if they reject you today, it doesn’t mean you should let your dreams die, you have something unique about you.”

Celebrities“I Can’t Sacrifice Myself For Any Woman” – Timaya Rules Out Marriage by Wisdytech(op): 12:54pm On Dec 22, 2014
https://brainnewsng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/timaya-baby.jpeg

Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya has revealed that he is not interested in getting married.

In an interview with Punch, the musician explained that although he is 37, he is not ready to sacrifice his time.

“I am not yet ready to get married and anyone who is looking for that is only being deceived because I am too young to get married. Marriage is not all about money and nobody knows what I have in the bank because they are not my accountant. Musicians lie a lot, so don’t believe most of what they tell you.

“They are only trying to ‘package’ themselves. I am not prepared for marriage because I am not yet ready to sacrifice for any woman, I am sorry. My daughter is my life and I love her so much but marriage is not on my mind. I don’t want a situation whereby I will tell a woman I want to travel somewhere and she would be complaining”.

Rodgers lives to fight another day

You probably never know the mail Brendan Rodgers would have woken up to tomorrow morning, if Martin Skrtel didn’t tower above crouching Arsenal players to head in the leveller. Another loss today and the owners would have probably started looking for agents’ number. But his team fought well and deserved a point.

Same ol’ Arsene, same ol’ Arsenal

Last season, Arsene Wenger’s men were four goals down in the first 20 minutes. It could have been the same scenario on Sunday, if Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were available to compliment Raheem Sterling. You have to wonder why Wenger never sets up his team proactively. His players also look overwhelmed and clueless at big away game.

Sanchez needs a rest

When presented between Anfield and the Emirates last summer, Alexis Sanchez chose the latter. Today would have been the day when he rubbed it in. But the Chile international was not his effervescent today and basically did nothing of worth. He looked tired and out of ideas. With his romantic relationship perhaps weighing in, maybe Wenger should give him a little break to recharge his batteries.

What do Arsenal players do in training?

After the match, Wenger told the BBC: “In the long stoppage time you have to survive two three corners and free-kicks. For their goal, we had plenty of defenders on the pitch. It’s disappointing that we didn’t even jump. You want everybody to be focused on the corner.”. One quick question, Monsieur: what do Arsenal players really practise all week, apart from jump shots and taking selfies? Even their famed passing game doesn’t exist anymore!

Is Rodgers’ new formation the solution?

Once again, the Northern Irishman persisted with three at the back. You would have thought Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud would be rubbing their hands. But no, the hosts looked assured and passed the ball around neatly. They probably would have been out of sight, if there was a bit more quality in front. It’s the same formation Rodgers has used in the last three games. Let’s just hope that therein lies the solution to his headache.

PoliticsRecord-breaking 1.1 Billion People Travelled The World In 2014 – UN by Wisdytech(op): 11:42am On Dec 22, 2014
It appears the world was on the move like never before in 2014, as the latest figures out of the UN’s World Tourism Organization show international travel is set to hit a new record by the end of the year with more than 1.1 billion people crossing oceans and borders.

During the first 10 months of 2014, the number of international tourists reached 978 million – 45 million or 5 percent more than the same period of 2013.

Growth was strongest in the Americas (+8 percent), followed by Asia and the Pacific (+5%) and Europe (+4%).

As UNWTO secretary-general Taleb Rifai pointed, the results are remarkable given the geopolitical turmoil and health crises that befell the world in 2014, notably Ebola.

Likewise, the global economic recovery remains unstable and fragile, he added.

Between January and October, the Americas posted their best results in a decade following the 2003 SARS outbreak, with particularly strong performances by North America and Mexico.

All subregions — North America, the Caribbean, Central America and South America — doubled their growth rates from 2013.

In Asia and the Pacific, South Asia posted the best results, reporting an increase of 8 percent in international arrivals, led by India (+7 percent).

In North-East Asia, destinations like Japan and South Korea registered double-digit growth.

Overall, international arrivals in Asia increased by 5 percent in October.

Arrivals in Oceania grew by 6 percent, while growth slowed significantly in Southeast Asia (+2 percent) compared to the 2012-2013 period. The slowdown is attributed to a decline in arrivals registered in Thailand.

Meanwhile, Europe, the most visited region in the world, posted a 4 percent increase in international tourist arrivals.

Established holiday destinations like Greece, Portugal, Spain and Malta recorded “robust” growth.

One notable finding this year is that growth in Central and Eastern Europe was stagnant (0 percent) in 2014, compared to an impressive average growth rate of 8 percent a year over the last three years.

International tourism in Western Europe grew a modest 2 percent this year.

And finally, international visits grew 4 percent in the Middle East, while Africa experienced a modest increase of 3 percent.

SportsFIFA Closes Petitions On Pinnick by Wisdytech(op): 2:28pm On Dec 19, 2014
http://brainnewsng.com/fifa-closes-petitions-on-pinnick/

Football’s world governing body, FIFA, has quashed any hopes Iyke Igbokwe and Okechukwu Ajunwa may have harboured regarding the former’s petition against Amaju Pinnick’s election as President of the Nigeria Football Federation after insisting on upholding the earlier decision reached by the majority of the NFF’s Electoral and Appeals Committee.

Igbokwe had, in the aftermath of Pinnick’s September 30 election as president of the NFF, filed a petition to the Electoral and Appeals Committee headed by Ajunwa.

Five members of the six-man committee – Victor Nwangwu, Bala Garba, Sani Mohammed, Mohammed Sanusi and Dotun Coker – on December 3 however upheld the outcome of the September 30 elections.

The committee’s Chairman, Ajunwa, was however the only differing voice, as he granted Igbokwe’s request to annul the outcome of the polls.

Pinnick, on his part, continued to serve as boss of the NFF which led to Igbokwe and Ajunwa to jointly write a letter to FIFA on December 10 to uphold their request to have a re-run of the NFF elections.

FIFA on December 18, however, replied the duo and with a subtle warning not to take the matter to a civil court in the foreseeable future.

“FIFA is of the opinion that the majority decisions issued by the Electoral Appeals Committee appear to have validly upheld in their entirety the results of the NFF elective Congress held in Warri on 30 September 2014,” stated the letter signed by FIFA’s Secretary General, Jerome Valcke, and copied to the NFF.

The letter added: “We kindly draw your attention to the fact that this information is only of a general nature and, therefore, without prejudice to any decision that any competent body may be called to pass in this or similar matters in the future.”

Education campaigner and founder of 1 GAME Campaign Philip Obaji has been awarded the prestigious Future Africa Awards Prize In Education 2014 in a ceremony in Lagos.

The event took place on Sunday 7th of December where Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan, represented by Minister of Youth Development, Bonnie Haruna and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi spoke, as well as Channels Television Chairman, John Momoh who presented the award to Obaji.

Born on 8 August 1985 in the town of Ogoja in the southern region of Nigeria, Obaji is known for his activism for rights to education for Children, especially in northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram forbids western education and attacks those in support of it.

After many years away from his place of birth, he took a trip back to Ogoja in 2009, and was greeted on arrival by tens of street children who had travelled in from north-eastern Nigeria in search of alms, but whom he thought ought to have been in school. This led him into action. In 2010, Obaji founded 1 GAME, an advocacy and campaigning organization that fights for the right to education for disadvantaged children, especially street children in northern Nigeria popularly called Almajiris.

In September 2013, Obaji initiated an online campaign, calling on Governor Kashim Shettima to remodel the Almajiri system of education in northeastern Nigeria’s Borno State in-line with western-style education. Because of his efforts on education in the region, Obaji rose to prominence, giving interviews in print and on television, and he was nominated for the Communication for Social Change Award, administered by Centre for Communication and Social Change at the School of Journalism and Communication, within The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

As well as the work Obaji does for 1 GAME Campaign, he serves as Global Youth Ambassador for A World At School— a new digital mobilization initiative working towards achieving global education. Obaji is also a member of the Cross River State Football Association.

The Future Africa Awards celebrate young Africans between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration.

http://thenationonlineng.net/new/police-tambuwal-must-apply-protection/

http://brainnewsng.com/police-tambuwal-must-apply-for-protection/

The police said yesterday that House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal must apply for protection as a governorship aspirant if he desires to be protected.

Tambuwal will still not enjoy any police protection as speaker since his guards were withdrawn following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Federal High Court judge sitting in Abuja had ruled that the status quo ante bellum must be maintained in the matter. But the police still did not restore the speaker’s security.

Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba declared when he appeared before the House Committee on Police Affairs that he would no longer recognise Tambuwal as speaker. Members immediately called it a day.

Police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu said: “It is the duty of the police to provide protection for all aspirants but they have to apply to be given police operatives.

“We have enough work on our hands and we cannot be running after candidates who need our protection.

“All candidates must apply for police protection.”
