The recent increase is base on high cost of crude in the international market due to the ongoing war in Iran, that is seriously affecting the Middle East.
It obviously will affect Nigeria cos price of crude to Dangote refinery must be in tune with international market price.
Same affects cost of importation.

Nigeria has launched an ambitious $750 million renewable electrification programme aimed at expanding electricity access through solar mini-grids and off-grid power systems, a move officials say could unlock over $1.1 billion in private investment and reshape the country’s energy landscape.


Nigeria has unveiled a $750 million renewable electrification initiative targeting 1,350 solar mini-grids nationwide, including 250 that will connect to the national grid.

The programme is expected to mobilise $1.1 billion in private-sector funding and improve access to power for underserved communities.

Large-scale solar projects under the Energising Education Programme are providing electricity to universities and teaching hospitals.

Government agencies and public institutions are also benefiting from the National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative, which reduces reliance on costly generators.

The initiative, being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), is expected to deploy 1,350 solar mini-grids nationwide, including 250 interconnected systems that will feed power directly into Nigeria’s national grid.

Speaking in Abuja during a visit by a delegation from the National Judicial Institute, REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu described the programme as a landmark intervention in Nigeria’s decades-long struggle with electricity shortages.

“For the first time, we are witnessing the implementation of the biggest publicly funded renewable electricity project in the entire world. It is a $750 million project that will catalyse $1.1 billion in private sector funding to deploy 1,350 mini-grids across the country,” Aliyu said.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, continues to face persistent power supply challenges despite decades of reforms and investments in the electricity sector. Millions of households and businesses rely on diesel and petrol generators due to unreliable grid power, leading to high operating costs and environmental concerns.

Officials believe decentralised solar systems could provide a faster and cleaner solution for underserved communities, particularly in rural areas where extending the national grid is expensive and slow.

Aliyu said the mini-grid programme is designed to provide electricity to communities currently outside the grid while strengthening existing infrastructure by integrating some of the new solar installations directly into the national power network.

It's sad that the government is deliberately not interested in history or values so as to control the people but in the meantime, the one that is within the people's control is to start learning about themselves from the home. Start from your family. I want families to start discussing who they are, I hope it becomes a trend with this Gen Z who use everything for content but you must give them kudos for questioning what they met on ground. Not religion, I want them to just start telling their stories. It's something a lot of people are uncomfortable with because even the parents don't know

It's not just the North, Africans need to liberate themselves from mental slavery. You know why we are passionate about these topics? It's not religion, it's identity. Many of us don't know who we are so we are taught these things. The average Nigerian can tell you what happened in Jericho but ask them what happened in Calabar, Ijesa or Potiskum, they will scratch their heads. A lot of their parents failed because even when you look at values, most people quote scriptures than what their own people passed on. Nigerians look up to them because they have something in common, religion but those people wonder how can a man not know himself. It's one of the things that was taken from us but we too must start to accept that we are responsible. There are many stories in the North that tells the history of who the people are but unfortunately, religion is the first thing people hold to because that's what they know, that's what they teach them, that's what they are fed.

If I ask the average Nigerian to tell me 10 popular sayings from where they come from, they will struggle. If I ask them to tell me 100 from the Bible or Qur'an, say no more...

1.Sharia police, or hisbah is unarmed and basically would be wiped out by any bandits...they can't investigate crime, or enforce an arrest on a criminal for stealing. And so forth. They are equivalent to the varied enforcement agencies that exist in many of our states.

2.Also, no state can afford state police, even the christian ones. If you want state police so that the christian states can prevent terrorist movement, be prepared to pay heavy duty taxes for the funding, or forget about it. No state, even Lagos, has the ability to fund a proper police force for city policing...talkless of a police force that would be expert in fighting the bandits in the bush

Such a police force would need drones, heavy machine guns, helicopters, armoured vehicles, all terrain vehicles, and very good rifles..and all that costs money. Note that they also need training facilites, and not just some glorified secondary school or something, good forensic laboratory, and crucially good records....and very good salaries and conditons of service.

In this country where most state budgets are tiny, state police no go work for now. You can call me bandit defender, or any other name, but me, I don't mind state police, but the problem again is...funding.
