Security researchers found that some Chinese phones (most notably Tecno-made) shipped with money-stealing malware. It subscribed users to paid services and couldn’t even be removed. The phone maker blamed it on a vendor in the supply chain.
While many politicians are focused on potential spying from Huawei phones, there may be a more practical security risk in the wild: out-of-the-box malware.
Secure-D and BuzzFeed News have learned that some low-cost Tecno W2 phones shipped to countries around the world infected with malware meant to steal money from customers. The Triada and xHelper software would quietly download apps and subscribe to paid services. This caused unexpected bills and data overages for buyers who were already some of the most disadvantaged in the world.
Chinese phones with money-stealing malware? While pre-loaded malware on phones isn’t a completely new concept, Malwarebytes analyst Nathan Collier told BuzzFeed that Triada and xHelper were particularly insidious. While they create pop-ups and other headaches expected from this kind of malware, they can’t be removed with a factory reset.
The phones mainly reached African countries, including Egypt, Ghana, and South Africa. However, some devices also reached Indonesia and Myanmar. Secure-D said it blocked 844,000 malware transactions between March and December 2019.
The best budget phones you can buy Transsion, the China-based company behind the Tecno brand, has pinned the malware on an unnamed “vendor in the supply chain process.” It said that it delivered fixes for Triada in March 2018 and xHelper in late 2019. However, the issue doesn’t appear to have gone away. Secure-D said it was still blocking Triada and xHelper on Transsion phones through April 2020, and it may simply be dormant.
Companies like TCL have had similar problems with preloaded malware, Secure-D added.
There’s no evidence of malicious intent on Transsion’s part. However, this doesn’t help the reputation of Chinese phones at a moment when many are already anxious. It also leaves many would-be buyers in a difficult position. Tecno is appealing precisely because it’s one of the few brands aimed primarily at low-income buyers. Customers might not have many alternatives if they’re worried enough to avoid Tecno entirely.

Binhamid: Good evening, I stay in a different state from my girlfriend and we see like once in 3 months. She has a tight work schedule and I also do. We also try to make 3 weeks out of December our mini-honeymoon each year. Everything was good because we communicate and tell each other everything. Even if I hang out with female friends or go out on dates due to boredom I do tell her. The one time I kissed a girl due to the fact that I was drunk I told her and I apologized. When I requested for video call she declined. That was when I knew she was not home. So I texted her that I knew she is not home. She called me back the second day that she just saw my text that she is sorry and that it was because of curfew that she stayed at the guy's place and all. That she does not know how to tell me blah blah blah. So I broke up with her. And she has been crying and saying sorry since. I still love her, and I actually believe her story a bit, but I'm still angry. Am I overreacting should I take her back or leave her to enjoy her life.

Lifeofgabbyz: Some people have that misconception that it is very difficult for a Nigerian lady to get a man abroad, be it a white or black man. It actually isn’t difficult it just depends on the lady, her attitude, appearance and the situation.
Before you say I am speaking plenty English let me explain what I mean based on my experiences in Ireland where I currently reside.
1. Before you start complaining that no one is walking up to you, ask yourself this “do I look approachable”. The truth is a guy would walk up to you if you look approachable, because you cannot be frowning or doing resting bitch face and expect someone to walk up to you. Some people are not okay with rejection o and don’t get me wrong some people also fancy frowning o but to each their own. My advice is access yourself and the situation before complaining

If you are more of an introvert I can understand how this might be difficult for you but the truth is the best place to meet people is outside your bedroom because you get to see them physically and connect on a different level, you can also meet people online but c’mon some of us are skeptical right but if meeting people online will work or works for you, then kudos.
3. Another thing is you have to be true to yourself in the sense that you need to ask yourself “what do I want” because you cannot be looking for entanglement and then expect someone’s son or daughter that is looking for marriage to be entangling with you. Often times when looking for something you need to ask yourself if that is what you want. And if someone walks up to you looking for more than you are looking for, then just tell them.
4. Lastly, try not to be biased towards dating apps because in as much as they might look useless and everyone just wants sex, there are people who don’t just want sex, so try it out and if it doesn’t work for you then you know it’s not for you but if it works for you then it does.
To round off my points I would just say be approachable or look approachable, dress nicely and try not to be rude to people… Also some people who are complaining that they cannot find men are chasing the men away with the way they talk or the way they relate with people. And on that note I would like to also say that Nigerian ladies or women abroad do get approached. BTW, Nigerian girls are balling over here in Ireland.

A friend of mine dated this girl in 2012 for almost a year during his first job with a 100k salary. She was 21 while he was 23 years old then. She was in her final year and was receiving monthly allowance of 20k from her parents. Though she has accommodation in the hostel but she prefers staying with him in his apartment which was very close to her school. My guy was taking care of this girl whose entitlement mentality was so high. They were eating outside almost everyday as she couldn't cook then. He loved her so much and wouldn't mind marrying her thus he was footing all her bills and was sending very little home to his parents and siblings. This lady still complained that he was looking after his family more than he takes care of her needs.
In days when my guy was so broke she would never assist him even as a loan. She was so beautiful and intelligent that she was the dream of most guys on campus. At a point she called the relationship off stating that she wants to go back to her ex and my guy who was so tired of the relationship but never wanted to hurt her accepted in good fate.
As luck may have it he got a new job ssme year with double pay in Lagos. She later came back saying her calling for a quit was just a joke but my guy requested they just take a break and re evaluate the relationship. He left the town and moved to Lagos, they communicated for few months and lost communication. She deactivated her social media contacts and was no where to be found.
Fast forward to 2020, my guy (now 31) is married with twin boys and has properties and investment in Lagos with a salary of about half a million. He's now looking very fresh and handsome (na money be fine bobo). He placed his wife on 60k monthly allowance and opened a shop for her. Some months ago this his ex girlfriend chatted him that she's in Lagos and they met with their love almost rekindling. She now works in Lagos with 60k pay.
Now this lady (now 29) and still single is accusing my guy of not making much efforts to look for her while he was single. Said she regretted her past actions and has completely changed and felt she was the one married to him. She even said she can accept to be his second wife or his baby mama and won't marry any guy who is not like my guy (in terms of character, emotion and ofcourse money).
My guy has come to me for advise, pls if you are him what will you do? Matured minds pls.
