Programming / Re: Python. Help! by worldbest(m): 6:31pm On Jan 28, 2011
You dont need some of those programs you mentioned. As a beginner in python all you need is the python interpreter, notepad2 or any other IDE and the command line(CMD). I think you can get the interpreter from www.python.org.

After installation, check the manual, it contains tutorials or you can visit www.diveintopython.org for some great tutorial.

Seriously, you dont really need anyone to give you a head start in programming. If you want to learn python/c#/php just use google and i am sure the first ten results will get you started. Asking here will only slow you down.

Cheers

@laurexie: I am always available to help you and anyone. Yes! I would suggest you take your time, learn, experiment, feel excited and proud about whatever you do no matter how basic it may seem. If you do decide to learn a High-level language, i would advice you to choose Python. Its simple and powerful. Writing Web apps with it is also possible too.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance
Programming / Re: Game Development: Join The Team by worldbest(m): 5:28am On Dec 24, 2010
@neo: welcome to the team. Feel free to contribute. Thanks

@laurexie:

Before you decide to learn programming you must first decide which area/field interest you. You may decide to program Web, Desktop and mobile applications.

Then you choose a programming language. Examples are PHP for Web, Python/C++/Java for Desktop, Java/C++ for mobile.

If you want to join us quickly, i would suggest you go learn Javascript @ http://w3schools.com since we'll be using it with Unity3D(our preferred game engine) as our scripting language.

I hope it helps.

@frenkstayl

Yes, sculptris is cool. We tried it months ago, too bad i wasnt able to model neatly. Why not show us stuffs u have done with it.

@Gameaddict: yes i have seen it.

@Zeta, i have a couple of blender resources, i will post links to them later, right now im on mobile.

@All: For human modelling, Makehuman.org is pretty cool, harmone introduced it to me. Although, i am finding it difficult to export the character.

@harmone.

Great! really nice. Uploading it as a .blend file is best. You can also post screenshots here too.

I would have suggested you upload the the file to our sourceforge project account but only gameaddict has the password to it for now.

Did you add textures? Cannot wait to see it.

Great job again.

Cheers

@GA:

Its been a while. Really nice screen you've got there.

@Harmone: I tried scanning the illustrations with my phone but they are kinda dark. I will post it later. But you dont have to wait for my illustrations you know, you can
start modeling houses.

A simple maze where the player just walks around picking stuffs and probably earning points will be alright for testing.

@Thatdave,mema900,amaof,alawore,dapor,easy03 and others

You are all welcome to the team. We are happy that you made the right decision to join us. We have started work already. Please go through the early pages to familiarize yourselves with the storyline

We are using the Unity3d game engine which can be downloaded @ http://unity3d.com.

I will send a mail to everyone later today and our SourceForge group and Facebook group/page.

Cheers.

@Harmone

Welcome to the team bro. We have been looking for someone like you, a dedicated 3D artist. I really appreciate your call and i love your spirit. Unity3D is great and i am sure you will enjoy working with it.

At the moment, i have a problem with my laptop. But it will be fixed by monday.

At the moment, we are working on the first level. We need to replicate the looks and feel of a Nigerian ghetto/town with simple houses(2 storeys, 'Face-me-i-face-you',shops,kiosk etc).

These buildings should be low poly, some of them dont need spaces in them except important once like police stations,some kiosk,actors house etc.

I would love for you @harmone to commence the modelling of this houses while i find a lasting solution to this gutter issue.

The gutter issue can be solved by modelling the whole level in blender, but we will loose the ability to use the goodies that came with the terrain system.

i am still looking @ the makeHuman, i like it, i will post my thought later today.

Update: I will post pictures/sketches of the kind of houses to be modelled later.

Cheers

@GraphMoney

Thanks alot. Contest? I havent sensed that.

@GA:

I understad you. To make the collider work well, we need to build models and their various parts independently,like for example,the goal post, lets say we use cylinders for the poles, we can later export the model and apply colliders to the individual poles/cylinders. As for the gutter, that is one difficult thing to achieve without blender. The rest of the scene is very cool.

As for a gutter, we can create that in unity with multiple terrains. We leave space between the terrain and place the gutter model in the space. I think there is a function that makes the terrains work together. Terrain.setNeighbours

Currently, i am working on a project that is taking my time. Hopefully i will have some freedom by d weekend.

------
I am not saying we should recreate the level, NO, this level i perfect to begin work.

Happy new month everyone.
Programming / Re: Game Development: Join The Team by worldbest(m): 3:20pm On Oct 29, 2010
@GA

Some of the objects in the scene dont act well when a collider is applied.Like the goal post and the electric post, i was unable to walk through/inside after applying a box collider. The gutters did not display correctly. All this errors are there because the world was made in blender. We need to create this world in unity, on a unity terrain so that we can take advantage of unity's terrain physics and other features. Blender should be used for modelling the world components,that way we can size things independently and accurately. For example the goal post.

My suggestion is we should try to port the blender world into unity.

@Ojukwu
Nice to know your pc is ok now. As at now most of the models we'l need are Realistic houses, koisk,shops,mosque,church etc. Make a 2 or 3 storey building, with no space inside and a shop for now. We can populate the scene with this models. What tool are you using for modelling? Thanks

Cheers

Nice.

You are welcome to the team. We are currently creating the first level, since you have skills with 3D modelling tools, we will need low poly models  of buildings(Naija sytles) this buildings dont have to have openings/Spaces inside. We want to complete this level really quick. Your help here will make things easier. Welcome to the team again.
