This will re-arrange the Ojuelegba Transport Hub. LAMATA has commenced payment of compensation to property owners affected.
is an impressive move.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu did say that COVID-19 lockdowns slowed him down in terms of RAPIDLY rolling out infrastructural developments. He is indeed right as we can see from what he is doing in the second-term of governance. Biodegradable toilets can also be rapidly built in Lagos State to produce biogas (methane gas) for cooking and to power generators for electricity from public toilets and residential houses. This isn't rocket science... Lagos Island, Ikeja, Yaba, etc, can be used as pilot projects for these before mandating all landlords key into it. Other states such as Oyo, Ogun, Kano, etc, will follow suit when Lagos achieves success here.

Lagos State must also build something functional and aesthetically futuristic in Ojuelegba in Surulere as this would add to the beauty of that environment. Kudos to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his team.

Kemi Badenoch, in her pursuit to be UK’s next prime minister of the United Kingdom, has slammed Nigerian politicians as looters and dream killers.

Previous Thread: https://www.nairaland.com/7225992/nigerian-politicians-use-public-money#114693573

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has berated Nigerian-British Member of Parliament (MP), Kemi Badenoch, over her comments on Nigerian politicians.

She was responding to a comment by an Iyabo Awokoya on Twitter:

I am very angry this morning. Angry at the nonsense said by @KemiBadenoch the MP/Conservative Party UK in her declaration to run for office of PM. Ms Badenoch, you are of to a poor start. VERY TACTLESS start in fact.

How on earth is it okay for you to use Nigeria's so-called misrule over the years -a reality we have been combating and doing better at, as your reason for vying for UK Prime Minister position. Ms. Are you vying for a position in Nigeria? Leave Nigeria out of it and discuss your UK issues.

By the way, your UK is on its on slippery slope so just stop this nonsense at once. You it is that was born in Wimbledon as a British citizen, lived in Nigeria only briefly and returned to both US and UK. You were back in your beloved UK and have stayed there since at least when you were 16 years.

Your Universities are Sussex and University of London. You do not have much first hand experience of Nigeria, Miss, so please sit Nigeria out. Please do. We are sick and tired of disrespect of our nation by all comers-what we Yorubas call "oni ruru, gege momo". Wish you luck in your PM Bid.

Abike responded, “I am just as angry. I second your thoughts here and will keep my comments for a later date.”
Bump.

Indeed, the Wimbledon-born Kemi Adegoke-Badenoch was just an impressionable 16-year-old girl who had her early years in Lagos and the United States before she went right back to the UK for her A-levels.

I clearly agree that at just 44 years of age as if 2024, she has to learn to ALWAYS use TACT in her reasoning and NOT be impulsive. Know when to TALK and when to keep SILENT so as NOT to burn both ends of the bridge, otherwise she will receive one of the biggest embarrassments of her life from her British constituents and from her Nigerian ancestral roots down the road. Period.

This narrative is riddled with flawed arguments, historical inaccuracies, and oversimplifications. Here’s a critique:
1. Romanticized Nostalgia: The assertion that Nigerians were universally respected as “big spenders” in the UK during the 1970s-1980s overlooks systemic biases and challenges faced by immigrants. Wealth does not equate to societal respect or integration.
2. Immigration Misconceptions: Linking illegal immigration to socioeconomic decline oversimplifies complex global trends. Historical data shows economic struggles often stem from government policies, not migration alone.
3. Personal Marital Defense: Kemi’s marriage is irrelevant to critiquing her policies or arguments. Reducing her identity to whom she married distracts from substantive issues.
4. Reparations Argument: The mention of colonial abuses in Kenya, Congo, or elsewhere undermines any dismissal of reparations. Empires extracted vast wealth—acknowledging that isn’t “overzealous.”

Your narrative unintentionally conflates unrelated issues and ignores nuanced realities. Facts, not anecdotal nostalgia, should guide such discussions.
I agree with segments of your 2nd and 3rd bullet points. A country such as Canada progressively welcomed in more immigrants especially from Asia than the housing supply/demand and economy realities could cope with. Trudeau has since a few months ago put in place policies to reverse excessive immigration due to growing anger and discontent from Canadian citizens. That meshes in with parts of your 2nd bullet point about "government policies." I'm a realist and have a vast knowledge of international history and geopolitical events, so, I'm very thorough with FACTS before pushing out my views in convos or in the public space so as NOT to mislead other people.

Second, you muddled up the primary "subject matter" or "key point" of my ORIGINAL post on this thread which is the NEGATIVES of ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION on the United Kingdom. (There's also been a dangerous rise in overt Islamist religious extremism, NOT just in the UK but in other parts of the EU, Canada, and the United States). I read your post 2 times just to internalize your points and came to the same conclusion.

My ORIGINAL post was NEVER riddled with historical inaccuracies, historical romantism, oversimplifications and all the other claims you made in your FIRST and LAST paragraphs. My facts about the way Nigerians were viewed in the United Kingdom as big spenders are CLEARLY historically accurate because the Nigerian economy back in the day was strong primarily due to the oil boom and coming from any country on earth with a strong economy earns citizens of that country RESPECT! Progressively, perceptions about Nigerians began to change for the worse in various countries of the world due to the highly criminal behaviors of some insidious people of Nigerian descent. As an air traveler to the UK back in the late 1970s and 1980s and till date these are historical facts, and I travel a lot internationally for various purposes. I simply made my point based off of my experiences and POV. Period.

Anybody who reads my post properly without "confirmation bias," would immediately understand it. A few others here have also posted the same view that I have made which is "the survival of the UK"... "UK FIRST!" NO other person on this thread has DEBUNKED my post the way you did here because I made myself crystal CLEAR. While trying to work in harmony with other countries of the world, I have always believed for decades of my existence that ALL local and International economic and political decisions taken by each member country of the United Nations MUST always be about USA FIRST, Nigeria FIRST, UK FIRST, Canada FIRST, Ghana FIRST, Cote d'Ivoire FIRST, etc.

A significant number of posters on the thread made reading the different perspectives here interesting though. I'm done with the thread.

He no lie. I am currently on the Island. Ajah to be precise and things are ridiculously expensive.

I don't get it. I don't understand the craze at all and why things are very very expensive
Please NOTE that Ajah is a community that is located on Lekki Peninsula (Ajah is NOT located on an Island). Victoria Island, Ikoyi Island, Lagos Island, etc, are just 3 out of all the big or small TRUE Islands located in Lagos State that are completely surrounded by water.

There is a difference between an Island and a Peninsula. An Island is a landmass that is COMPLETELY surrounded by water, while a Peninsula is a landmass that is NEARLY surrounded by water.

A lot of uninformed new comers to Lagos State keep saying they are living on the "Island" when Ajah, Lekki Phases 1 and 2 (which used to be part of the former reclaimed Maroko slum that was demolished in 1989 by the then military administrator of Lagos, Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki), and other surrounding communities are all located on the Lekki Peninsula landmass. The entire Lekki Peninsula landmass got it's name from the Ijebu town of Lekki in Ibeju-Lekki LGA of Lagos State. The entire Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Ikorodu LGA, Epe LGA, and Ajah are parts of Ijebuland that are located in Lagos State which extend right into Ijebuland in Ogun State.

Hope this helps.

Politics › Re: PH Refinery: 200 Trucks Load Daily, 150,000BPD Eleme Plant Dormant by XAUBulls: 7:45pm On Nov 28, 2024
PressMyButton:
After seven postponements, the Port Harcourt Refinery Company has finally commenced fuel production, promising a daily supply of about 200 trucks, as about one million litres of refined products were released by the plant on Tuesday.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited unveiled the refinery on Tuesday, saying the old facility, which has a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, had been revamped and upgraded with modern equipment.
It said the newly rehabilitated complex of the old Port Harcourt refinery is currently operating at a refining capacity of 70 per cent of its installed capacity.

NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, said the bigger refinery in the Eleme complex that houses the plants, with a 150,000-capacity, had yet to be completed.

Kyari said the bigger plant, including the Warri and Kaduna refineries, would come on stream later. However, he declined to give a timeline because President Bola Tinubu warned him from doing so after several postponements.

“We will deliver all the other projects. We are not going to give a timeline as he (Tinubu) has directed,” the GCEO said while appreciating the President for his support.

During the unveiling of the refinery, NNPC officials conducted stakeholders around the facility where they took samples of petrol, diesel, and kerosene.
The stakeholders who included marketers and the regulators also witnessed the loading of trucks at the gantry. It was stated that about 200 trucks of petrol would be released into the Nigerian market daily.

The Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed, expressed satisfaction with the development. According to him, with the Dangote refinery and Port Harcourt refinery producing, there will be fuel availability all over the country.
Ahmed also said the rehabilitation of Warri and Kaduna refineries would make Nigeria a net exporter of petroleum products instead of a net importer it has been for years.

The NMDPRA chief executive stated that the refinery would give people choices and promote healthy competition in the downstream sector.
He said the prices of petroleum products would come down due to enough fuel supply in the local market.
“Products will be available nationwide. What is important is that there will be competition and choices. All we’ve been talking about when I spoke in July was about choices, competition, availability, and affordability.
“We will see the prices of petroleum products coming down because there is ample supply. We hope the refinery will continue to sustain the current level of production. We are hoping that the second part of the refinery will come up very soon,” he stated.

Politics › Re: Port Harcourt Refinery: Tinubu Is A Jinx Breaker, Says Mayor Akpodoro by XAUBulls: 7:36pm On Nov 28, 2024
PressMyButton:
The Mayor of Urhoboland and head of the Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC), His Excellency Eshanekpe Israel, a.k.a. Akpodoro, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief Group Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engr. Mele Kyari, for the successful commencement of petroleum product loading at the Port Harcourt Refinery.

In a statement following the announcement of the refinery’s resumed operations on Tuesday, Akpodoro described President Tinubu as a “jinx breaker” who has achieved what previous administrations could not, “President Tinubu has demonstrated capacity and dexterity,” Akpodoro stated, noting that successive administrations had turned the refinery repairs into a financial drain, failing to revitalize the facility despite borrowing billions for its maintenance.

The Mayor further criticized past administrations, particularly those of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), accusing them of using the refinery as a “conduit pipe to drain national wealth” and failing to deliver results.

He also highlighted the shortcomings of the immediate past APC-led administration under Muhammadu Buhari, which, despite funding efforts, could not operationalize the refinery due to systemic corruption. “Today, the man we voted for against all odds has delivered a legacy project to Nigerians,” Akpodoro declared, praising Tinubu’s leadership and vision.

He expressed optimism that with the refinery’s operation at a capacity of 65,000 barrels per day, Nigeria’s energy crisis would ease and market forces might drive down fuel prices.

The Mayor also lauded Mele Kyari for his resilience, patriotism, and leadership in managing a sensitive corporation like the NNPCL. He pointed out that Kyari has navigated challenges such as oil theft and public mistrust, demonstrating statesmanship in ensuring the refinery’s progress despite sabotage attempts aimed at maintaining the dependency on fuel importation. “This milestone gives hope to Nigerians that a brighter future is possible,” Akpodoro concluded.

The resumption of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to enhance energy self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products.

Politics › Re: Port Harcourt Refinery Will Crash Fuel Price, Create Jobs - IPMAN, PETRAON by XAUBulls: 7:21pm On Nov 28, 2024
Great100000:
Stakeholders in the oil and gas industry have said the commencement of production at the Port Harcourt Refining Company will engender competition, crash the pump price of petroleum products and create jobs for Nigerians.

Recall that the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari had on Tuesday inaugurated a 60,000 barrel per day capacity plant at the old Port Harcourt Refinery Deport.

During the event, Kyari said the other sections of the refinery will be completed in due course.

The stakeholders, including the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, said this while speaking with newsmen at the sideline of resumption of production at the Port Harcourt Refinery and loading of trucks at the facility located in Eleme, Rivers State on Tuesday.

The IPMAN Chairman in Rivers State, Tekena Ikpaki, said the coming on stream of the Port Harcourt Refinery while confirming the loading of products into trucks while describing it as a remarkable achievement.

Ikpaki stated, “This will remain memorable in our lives and in our hearts because it has been long expected.

“Now it is no longer expected, it is real, it can be seen and felt. Trucks have been coming in and loading out and we have been witnessing the process.”

Asked what the operation of the Port Harcourt Refinery and the Dangote Refinery together mean for the downstream sector, he said it will engender competition and reduce the cost of petroleum products.

Tekena stated, “You know in God’s time He makes all things beautiful and this is just the best thing that will happen to Nigerians. I mean there is super competition now in the system which is in favour of the entire Nigerians.

“When Dangote and the NNPCL are at loggerheads and they are competing, who enjoys the dividends? Of course you and I. So I believe that since the refinery has come on stream, Dangote is there too, it will further push down the price of products.

“Over the weekend, Dangote had announced price reduction both on the marine and trucking, coming from perhaps the resumed operation of the Port Harcourt Refinery. So I think price reduction will be experienced and it will be in our favour and the favour of Nigerians.”

While expressing the optimism that more trucks are expected to come into the facility to load products in the coming days, saying the event of Tuesday was a test run.

“Yes because it is still a test run. You know the place (Refinery) has been moribund for some time. For now, it is still hypothetical but in no distant time everything will be in its proper place and the inflow of trucks will be seen again the way it used to be, ” the Rivers State IPMAN Chairman said.

On its part, the Petroleum Product Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria said the commencement of production after five years will create job opportunities, boost the nation’s economy and bring about competition in the downstream sector.

The National Public Relations Officer of PETROAN, Joseph Obelle said this also corroborated the opinion of IPMAN that it will lead to a reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit also known as Petrol.

Obellei further said the association will continue to work with the management of the NNPCL, retail management and other stakeholders to ensure that products lifted at the Port Harcourt Refinery depot are well distributed to all nooks and crannies of the nation.

He commended President Bola Tinubu and the management of the NNPCL for their commitment to reviving the refinery.

He added, “PETRAON expresses optimism for the commencement of production at the Port Harcourt Refinery.

“We are so sure that it will offer job opportunities, boost the economy of the country and trigger competition in the downstream sector which we reflect significantly to price reduction.

“We want to commend the leadership of the NNPC led by the Group CEO, Mele Kyari for demonstrating leadership with his team towards seeing the Port Harcourt Refinery becoming a reality.”

Obelle added, “Funding would have been an issue if not for the determination of Mr President. So we also commend President Bola Tinubu for releasing funds for the Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation”

He lauded the host communities for providing a peaceful atmosphere for the rehabilitation of the refinery and called on the company handling the reconstruction of the Eleme section of the East-West Road to ensure speedy completion of the road for smooth movement of trucks carrying petroleum products from the refinery to other parts of the country.

Kemi's submissions are largely correct here. Back in the day when Kemi's parents lived briefly in the United Kingdom and then gave birth to her in 1980, the unbridled immigration leading to overpopulation and unemployment wasn't there. But within the last 25 years, illegal immigration has gained momentum in the United Kingdom thereby hampering the socioeconomic lives of existing legal immigrants and British citizens. I remember that folks of Nigerian descent used to fly regularly on holidays, for studies or business trips from Lagos Airport into Gatwick Airport OR Heathrow Airport in London via Nigeria Airways and British Caledonian Airways from the late 1970s right into the 1980s and folks of Nigerian descent were respected in the UK as big spenders. These were the things I personally experienced back in the late 1970s right into the 1980s till British Caledonian got subsumed into British Airways in 1988.

In the grand scheme of things, NO country (Nigeria included) would allow such irresponsible illegal immigration and overcrowding in the name of being politically correct and this is why Donald Trump is also going to do the same by embarking on one of the largest deportations of illegal immigrants in U.S. history from 2025.

Last but NOT least, Kemi is married to a British Jewish banker (who is about her age in the early 40s) who incidentally had worked in Nigeria before their paths crossed in the United Kingdom, Kemi is NOW fully an integral part of the UK society by marriage to a British Ashkenazi Jew, therefore it's WRONG to accuse her of betraying Nigeria. Once a British-Yoruba or Nigerian-American woman has chosen to marry a White man and integrate into his country and have biracial children for him, then she has EVERY right to seek and fight for what is BEST for her children, family and the immediate environment she lives in against high crime rates, unemployment, hyperinflation, etc.

My ONLY red flag observation about Kemi is that in one of her videos, she was "trying too hard" to make a convincing argument against some form of reparations which she said was blackmail, BUT in reality, there were fundamental human rights violations in some countries such as Kenya that British colonialism took place. The French colonial rule and Belgian rule in the Congo were even WORSE than the British Empire's rule. She'll have to avoid overzealousness, tone down her words and think deeply before saying anything that would backfire on her down the road so that she doesn't inadvertently burn boths sides of the bridge. Period.
Art, Graphics & Video › Re: Culturati Is Harnessing Lagos Tourism For Business Growth - Bakinson by XAUBulls: 3:52pm On Nov 28, 2024
Lanrelagboi:
Concerned by the need to boost Lagos Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the Chief Executive Officer of Culturati Africa, Adetola Bakinson, has disclosed that the 2024 edition will further assist Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism industry create a pathway to business growth using Lagos cultural heritage.

To assist the SMEs in the tourism sector thrive and earn more profits from their businesses during the annual largest cultural fusion, Culturati Festival, Bakinson added that this year edition would afford 100 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) participate in an exclusive trade fair where Lagos cultural heritage will be promoted, saying this organized in partnership with Naijabrandchick.

She stated that the trade fair will provide businesses with visibility, networking opportunities, and access to new customers.

This year’s festival, themed “Celebrate Diversity and Unity”, will hold from 5th to 7th December 2024 at Freedom Park, Lagos and will host high-profile dignitaries and international attendees, further elevating its global appeal.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday in Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer of Culturati Africa emphasized the festival’s significance, describing it as more than just an event.

She noted that it is an ongoing movement dedicated to promoting cultural diversity, fostering empowerment, and creating opportunities for economic and creative growth across the continent.

“This platform celebrates traditional art, craft, music, storytelling, entertainment, and fashion, ensuring these elements are not only preserved but passed on in engaging and innovative ways. Supporting this event fosters pride in our African identity and sustains traditions for this generation and beyond,” Bakinson added.

According to her, the Culturati Festival is a dynamic celebration of African culture, heritage, and the rich mosaic of diversity in Lagos, a city that serves as both a melting pot of traditions and a global stage for Africa’s excellence.

“This is in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Culturati Africa presents the 18th edition of the festival, featuring impactful initiatives such as the Culturati Community Library, an advocacy platform for literacy and cultural education”.

Bakinson underscored the festival’s dedication to youth empowerment, stating, “Through the Culturati Academy, we have empowered over 10,000 youths with training in digital marketing, video production, and content creation. This year, we will continue to equip more young people with the skills they need to thrive in the creative and cultural industries.”

“In addition to its cultural and economic objectives, the event is also set to transform its venue, Freedom Park, into an even greater cultural landmark. Originally a colonial-era prison turned into a thriving hub for arts and culture, the park holds deep historical significance as a symbol of freedom and resilience. This year, the venue will be refurbished to enhance its appeal and attract more tourists, ensuring its place as one of Lagos’ finest cultural and tourist destinations.

“The aim is to boost Lagos’ economy through tourism while integrating cultural diversity into the state’s development agenda. By promoting the cultural sector and revitalizing Freedom Park, we’re not just hosting a festival; we’re driving a movement for culture, empowerment, and growth,” Bakinson concluded.

In this video, TJ takes on some of Kemi’s most controversial and electrifying moments in Parliament, exploring what makes her such a unique figure on the political stage. We’ll break down her standout speeches, including her unforgettable first Prime Minister’s Questions session where she took on Labour’s Keir Starmer and David Lammy head-on.

🇬🇧 British Politics Shaken Up by Kemi Badenoch 🇬🇧

Kemi Badenoch isn’t your average politician. With Nigerian roots and an unapologetic stance on many issues, she’s been described as a “breath of fresh air” by some and a “provocative disruptor” by others. This video is all about understanding her impact on British politics and what her recent rise could mean for the political landscape. TJ explores how Kemi’s unique blend of British and Nigerian influences shapes her outlook, policies, and how she engages with both supporters and critics. Her ability to take on some of the most established figures in British politics has left audiences stunned — and TJ gives his Nigerian-British take on what it all means.

💥 The Highlights: Kemi’s First PMQs and Powerful Exchanges 💥

One of the main highlights of this video is Kemi Badenoch’s recent session during Prime Minister’s Questions, a crucial weekly event where the PM and opposition leaders challenge one another. Kemi didn’t hold back, taking direct aim at Keir Starmer and David Lammy. Her pointed questions, cutting responses, and strategic takedowns left Parliament buzzing, with some commentators saying she “eviscerated” the opposition in a way that few expected. But what’s driving her approach, and what does it mean for British politics? TJ breaks down these powerful exchanges, explaining what makes her arguments resonate and why they’ve sparked reactions across the political spectrum.

Kemi Badenoch Just Changed British Politics (Nigerian British Reacts).
The correct term for a British of Nigerian descent is British-Nigerian NOT "Nigerian British" (sic).

Same with Canadian-Nigerian and Nigerian-American which are both correct.

Wow! She's beautiful. Tinubu got eyes for beautiful women
She's pretty for her current age though. If she slims down further, then she'll even look more beautiful.

As I was coming back late in the night along Berger in Lagos, a boy was trying to help me get a vehicle and he later stop a personal car but the driver said the car is his personal car and within 2 minutes, 2 young guys wearing black shirts with rough hair entered as passengers. Within some minutes, another 2 guys squeezed themselves inside and they are all young with rough dressing.

I was at the front and I jumped down immediately before it moved but they were persuading me to enter but I refuse and entered the next car.

How can 4 young guys on black shirts with rough tattered clothes enterer the same bus. One was with a school bag and I suspected them.

There supposed to be at least, a woman and old person.

I hope I did the right thing guys by jumping down from the car?
cheesy grin

The constitution states that local governments are in charge of markets.

A local government got a developer to build a segment of a market. The developer died while the market was still under construction. The local government named the market in honour of the developer.

Later some people began calling the market a different name.

The local government chairman inaugurated a new management of the market and he informed them of the original name of the market and that the local government voted that the market should be referred to by its original name, yet some people are frothing, why?

Indeed, that's very insightful.

Thanks for the detailed comment.

No mind me, I wasn't really serious, I just wanted to infuriate some emotional men.

I didn't really mean my comment. Whether they marry Black, White, brown or green men, wish them all the best. grin
Indeed, they all have a right of choice to gravitate towards the men they want as long as these young men have VALUE. "I originally knew you were pulling some legs to rile some fragile egos up." Lol. Enjoy your day.
