That Jason Kilar na very stupid executive honestly.
He messed up The Batman's gross. Sabotaged Dune. Lost Nolan as well as Legendary —the owners of the Godzilla franchise. After next year's Godzilla and Kong movies Legendary is moving most probably to Universal.

Oppenheimer also had the benefit of being comarketed with BARBIE, vice versa.
Those numerous internet memes did a whole lot of marketing and exposure for both films.
In as much as Killar made numerous terrible choices, he also had his good moments... moments like numerous Oscars, growth of HBO MAX from 20M subscribers as of January 2021 to 74M subscribers by December 2021 (something Zaslav is still struggling to replicate), making good revenues (profits not included) for Warner Media in 2020 and 2021 despite the controversies and instability that rocked the company likewise Covid-19 etc.

Dude was a hybrid executive --- good and bad.

As for Dune, the hybrid release was the best option. What were the odds the movie would have performed well in cinema exclusively, considering how volatile things or the cinematic market was during Covid-19 2021?
Rather than losing or probably losing out at the box office, the hybrid was okay. With such model, Dune got to make the little it could make at the box office while simultaneously contributing towards the growth of HBO MAX.

As for Batman, Nolan, and Legendary Pictures, those ones are on him. He messed up big time.

So I'mma tryna tell me that Oppenheimer would have been a WB film if not for WB going south with their business partnership with Christopher Nolan. Aswear, Zaslav will be praying die by fire prayer against Killar 😂😂😂.

Talking about Christopher Nolan and WB, imagine Christopher Nolan or Zack Snyder directing an Injustice trilogy, an animated HBO MAX DCeased series and/ or an animated HBO MAX Doomsday Clock series.

What about the completion of the 300 trilogy but as an HBO MAX series, or rebooted clash/ wrath of the Titans HBO MAX series --- to fix the disappointment of the movie series, justice should be done.

HBO MAX will literally go up in flames 🙃.

OPPENHEIMER

A detailed, explicit, technical and intriguing movie about a world turning historical event. The emotional weight, the directing, the acting (especially those of Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jnr, Florence Pugh, and Emily Blunt), the visual effects --- especially that of the explosion which detailed the energy balls, the glow, the fiery surface, and the energy particles as they reacted, interacted and coursed seamlessly --- were beautiful, they where pure art. One can't also overlook the musical theme before the launch of the atomic bomb... musical score that overwhelmed one with emotions... emotions of discomfort, tension, anticipation and excitement. Such added so much vibe and taste to the experience.

Aside from its Sci-fi theme, Christopher Nolan did an excellent job at detailing the background of Oppenheimer, the dramas in his life, his call to the Mahanttan Project, the process of the Mahanttan Project, the tension and emotions before the launch of the atomic bomb, the victory of the project's success, the regret and ripple effect of the catastrophic effect of the atomic bomb, the politics revolving around the atomic bomb, and finally the betrayal as a result of selfish political interest. Such detailed storytelling made the movie worth calling cinema worthy. Its three hours runtime was justified. I regard it as one of the best movies of 2023, an Oscar worthy movie.

My Rating: 9.3/10

People just yap their mouths and complain of unoriginal movies but they continue to show total lack of support at the box office.

Studios will continue to push IPs up your throats till thy kingdom come cos people never put their money where their mouth is!!
That's what I've been telling some people. They complain they want original movies but patronise the remake, adapted and franchise movies instead 🙄. And they wonder why studios are obsessed with remakes, adaptations and franchises. Those are the fvcking oil wells.

Your points are buttress clearly, but there is this stigma hovering around particular set of the old casts that aside the rough start that will be there for the first dcu movies people still won't easily let go of using their previous movie(s) to vent their anger if their dcu movie(s) do not meet up expectations.
Going with new casts or bringing in some old casts are entirely two different things. Like said, I would prefer if he runs a clean slate. Make everything new so we don't have that already built mind-set on how this or that cast(s) is played.
Example the new Superman cast, I don't think anyone can confidently say they have idea of his range aside James himself. I need things like that.
Look at Batfleck as a case, people till date still dislike the way he's handled by Josh Whedon and even in the current Flash movie. The comparison is heavy on how those other two directors made Batfleck looked almost like a juvenile as compare to Snyder's take. His acting on those two looked funny I swear...
I understand your concern, and I would have allied with your perspective if entirely new actors would give the DCU the success it yearns, but unfortunately it won't. So if it won't, then why bother about that?

The reality on ground is, with or without an entirely new cast, the DCU won't have a juicy beginning, the possibility of the reverse happening is low or very low, and guess what? The media and people will talk, blame and criticise. That's the reality, it's something we all have to accept and anticipate.

The only way to course correct thing is for Zaslav, Gunn and Safran to focus on creating a progressive and cohesive DCU --- with or without entirely new cast --- irrespective of the poor performance of its first set or some of its first set of films. With this the DCU brand will be established due to audience and fanbase interest and faith in the franchise. That's the only way the DCU will meet its success.

An entirely new cast or not is insignificant, it's useless, it doesn't determine the success of the franchise, it definitely won't stop the first set or some of the first set of DCU films from performing poorly, and it won't stop the media and people from talking, blaming and criticising. And if that's the case, then what's the obsession with it? Why the focus on it?

Our focus should be on DC resiliently creating a cohesive and progressive DCU irrespective of its shaky and disappointing beginning, rather than they going with an entire new cast or not.

If Gunn wants an entirely new cast, fine. If he doesn't, fine. All I want from him is to resiliently create a progressive and cohesive DCU irrespective of the poor beginning. This is what matters more.

Lol, I don't know how true the info is but I won't be surprised if it's spinned somehow by the media reporting these actors and writers strike to make studios look like evil villains.
Exactly my thoughts.

What are the odds that a studio that has been plagued by controversies in the past, that is trying to be free from its baggages of past controversies, that is seeking to be profitable in other to avoid been sold out, broken or merged, and that exist in a woke society will make such statement at a meeting where such statement can, will or might go public? What are the fvcking odds?

But I won't be surprised if WBD actually said that. Mega corporations do have a knack at being dickheads at times, especially that Warner Company.

The Studios are greedy but some of the demands from the unions are not really realistic.
Facts.

Truth is, all employees love unions, and all entrepreneurs and top executives hate unions. The problem is the problem of greed, selfishness and insensitivity from both side of the spectrum.

I suggest he should completely reboots everything, not one of the old guys should be kept. Cause I don't want a situation where if any of his movie fails the blame will now be tied to those old guns by saying people still have that bitter taste of dceu. I don't want that, those Snyder's casts have suffered a lots from similar situations once the movies they're in did not meet up expectations...
He should do 100% reboot. Nothing like keeping any old casts.
Truth is, whether they cast entirely new actors or they retain some old actors, the DCU will still have a shaky start, and the media and people will still talk, criticise and throw blames. Why? That's because the DC film brand is weak and unstable, and the solution to that is focusing on building a brand by;

* Creating a progressive and cohesive universe irrespective of the poor performance of the first sets of films or some of them.
* Enormously progressing on the planned saga irrespective of the poor performance of the first sets of films or some of them.

With this, within a space of few years (three to five), the DCU brand will be built due to audience and fanbase interest and faith in the franchise.

So the problem is not the actors (entirely new or not) they choose to go with, but rather the franchise brand. If Gunn wants to go with entirely new actors, fine. If he wants to retain some old actors, fine. But irrespective of the path he wants to take, he and Zaslav should make sure they focus on building a stable DCU brand irrespective of the poor performance of the first set or some of the first set of films. This should be the focus and not if they're going with entirely new actors or not, this won't in any way determine the success of the DCU.

Truth is, the first set or some of the first set of the DCU films will perform poorly whether we like it or not, but it's the resilience and consistency of Zaslav, Gunn and Safran to build a good DCU brand --- by creating a progressive and cohesive universe, and enormously continuing with the planned saga --- that will eventually give the DCU the success it deserves, with or without entirely new actors.

Besides, reboot deals with changing timelines and storylines, not characters and actors. The issue of change of actors and characters is an option, it's a matter of choice, and not standard, or right and wrong.

BARBIE

A light-hearted, existential centric movie that thrives to navigate its way through the complex labyrinth of feminism, patriarchy, and matriarchy.

Alongside the theme of existentialism or self discovery is the theme of satire. It satirical theme explores the delusion of a matriarchal society being the solution to a patriarchal society, as can be seen in the matriarchal Barbieland as compared to the patriarchal real world. But unfortunately, matriarchy isn't the solution as can be seen in the movie. The Kens --- the male characters of Barbieland --- are oppressed, excluded, neglected and discriminated in Barbieland's matriarchal system, and this --- due to series of events --- caused the overhauling of the system into patriarchy, which of course didn't go well, nobody or group wants or loves to be excluded, neglected, discriminated and oppressed.

But I'm glad that at the end of the movie, rather than sticking to matriarchy all in the name of female empowerment, the citizens of Barbieland recognized the errors of their ways and chose to create a system where the male and female characters are given equal opportunities. Yes, the equality in the Barbieland isn't perfect, but it's a start. I hope that as the Barbie franchise progresses, the voice, privilege and power given to the male characters of Barbieland will improve and grow exponentially, just as that of women in the real world has been.

Aside that, its feminism theme is amazing. Unlike contemporary feminism centric films that tend to promote villification of men, promiscuity, matriarchy, suppressing men in other to empower women, this movie passed the message that a matriarchy society is as worse as a patriarchy society, and that the system that should be instituted is the humantriarchy, a system where everyone irrespective of their gender is included and granted power, privileges and voice. Truth is, that's what feminism truly is. That was the vision of its founders like Elizabeth Stanton, unlike the abomination we have today in the name of feminism.

I also love the fact that the feminism theme in this movie also promoted the idea of a woman being free to be a mother and a house wife if that's her desire, unlike the radical feminism of the 21st century and lots of feminism centric films out there that opposes, condemns and ridicule such.

But despite its intriguing existential, satirical and femininism themes, the movie has its own problem... problems regarding certain plot elements like;

* A dude running up to Barbie and spanking her butt in the open. Who does that in the Western world?
* Barbie being arrested for punching the guy that sexually molested her. Seriously? I guess anything to villify the "patriarchal society" is allowed.
* Mattel senior executives all being male. How is that even possible. We are talking about a company that produces toys especially female toys. Once again, anything to villify the "patriarchal" society is welcome.
* Mattel CEO and senior executives all being portrayed as clowns and juvenilistic, especially during the chase scene.
* Barbie appearing in a beach suit in an advert that involves young girls. What was the message? Wait, let me guess, uhmmmm, being tall, slim, and dressing raunchily is the perfect definition of beauty and female empowerment. Wow! That's impressive. So much for feminism.

In conclusion, the movie is a watchable movie with an intriguing feminism, satirical and existential theme. In addition, Barbie is a good start of, for and to a Barbie franchise, and probably a Mattel Film Universe.

My Rating: 6.5/ 10

If Gal is playing Wonder Woman, that's goodnews. She's a good actress that played Wonder Woman well. Having her in the DCU will be amazing.

I'm still trying to figure out where and when reboot equates to not featuring some old actors.

Gunn himself said (that was December last year or January this year, any of them) that in the DCU, some old actors will be retained, some old actors will be shown the door, and new actors will be brought in.

But regarding the validity of this information, I'll wait for confirmation from Gunn himself.

Oro is a tribe, Oron is a LGA. I was referring to the tribe, not the LGA. The problem is, we tend to intertwine them. I used to make that mistake.

But they over marketed the Movie.
Whatever money they spent on marketing will not exceed the 3x multiplier, that's always the maximum for BEP. No studio or movie exceeds that.

Going with the 3x multiplier on a budget of $145M, Barbie will need $435M to be profitable, and the movie has already exceeded that. So that's a lot and lot of gross profit. Irrespective of high marketing, the movie is already a profit hit 😎.

I always knew the movie will do very well especially with the combo of Margot Robbie and the rest of the superb cast, couple that with Greta Gerwig and you got a winner. I expected around $750mn if it does superb.... Didn't know it would drop monstrous performance.
The Barbenheimer memes amongst fans also helped tho as well as good reviews and word of mouth. It's an event movie and no one wants to miss out. The more money BARBIE makes domestically the better for WB. $600mn+ and above is kumbaya level for them with hopes the other films performs well.
The only issue with BARBIE success is Mattel and others having ideas for a cinematic universe[/b]. 😅
Shared universe ke 😂. Sha I don't know much about the Mattel IPs, if they feel they've got the properties to make a shared universe, fine. All they need to do is make sure they have a good shared universe plan.
But one thing is sure, shared universe or no shared universe, WB just landed themselves a solid franchise.

I've been saying for a month now that WB was gonna rebound with its second half movies.
Dune 2 looks promising and another possible billion dollar potential.
I see Blue Beetle and Meg 2 performing well also. I don't know about Wonka and Aquaman 2, the latter because of the multiple reshoots and the Amber Heard controversies (the movie will make money due to the Aquaman brand, but the probability of making high revenues especially like its prequel is low).
