freedomforall30: GTB connived with EFCC to do the same thing they did to Ifeanyi Ubah when he had disagreement with NNPC on their contractual agreement on storage of fuel; what did NNPC do? They connived with DSS/EFCC to arrest him; held him there for months until they finally made him to accept the agreement and losses. The difference between Ubah's case and Innoson is Innoson's case has long standing with the court with clear evidence that it would be difficult to pull Ubah's antics on him. Stop lying, Ubah was trying to defraud FG of billions of naira. |

Kazim88: Bank major profit is based on interest charge on loan to billionaires.
Bank only give loans to millionaires and billionaires.
GTbank using EFCC bullet and gun to Harrass Innonson is nothing but madness... And you expect other millionaires and billionaire to do business with GTbank, Where they could be victimized. Have you considered the stress it will involve for a billionaire to move his/her account? Do you know the many long-term agreements and loans many of them have with GTBank and the legal consequence of deciding to cancel such agreements? The people that can easily close their accounts are those with chicken change. Even Inoson did not close his account despite the dispute. |

ajl: While I do agree that people should go ahead to close their GTB account as form of protest. It should not be done on a sentimental basis that the victim of GTB unprofessional conduct is from a particular part of the country. This unprofessional act of using EFCC or police forces to intimidate individuals in issues that is purely a civil matter is very common. I have in my possession tens of thousands of court proceedings and many of the cases has to do with victims bringing a infringment of fundamental human right case against EFCC or the Police and respondents that resort to using security agencies to chase after debtors. In fact, this cut across different sectors, not just banks. Individuals also do this.. It's also very common in land and property cases as well where individuals involved in land or property possession matters use security agencies to intimidate respondents.
In the cases of banks, this is totally unacceptable as I believe there should be laid down procedures to recover funds from debtors. Most of the banks do it. This case is only in public domain because the victim is well known. So, while I advise that people should go ahead to close their GTB accounts as a form of protest, it should not be based on ethnic sentiments. Many Nigerians of different ethnic backgrounds are victims, so such protest should be in support of these victims. Of course, it is okay to feel motivated to do so after reading about Innoson case because most of us know about his business.
But on the other side, our people are very difficult and I can imagine how tough it may be for creditors to get their funds from debtors. But in advanced countries you don't involve police in civil matters. Court judgement is enough. And for a bank, this is a No...No. EFCC have not stated why Innoson was arrested. You are right in our people being difficult. Ifeanyi Uba refused to pay up his debt to FG until the DSS was involved. |

erico2k2: He is right to demand that cos you have to repay him at the same rate his loan is being charged . Look it's very clear . If loan repayments are charged at 22%it simply means the overcharged or illegal deduction was collected @ 22%it's simple maths . I see nothing wrong there . The only money open for negotiation would have been the damage money . Which they could do out of court quietly . GTB have bad advisers this will dent thier image plus you only need to look to the UK how the PPI claims came to be . Very soon everyone who had one time within the past 10 years had an loans with GTB will chk to see of they where over charged and if found out then GTB are on a long thing . When normal customers are overcharged, they complain. Inoson in an attempt to reap where he didn't sow maintained silence until he met his target of projected interest rate. It is illogical to talk about 22% when he is not a bank or lender who had an interest rate agreement with his supposed customer(GTBank). GTB charges 22% on loans, greedy inoson cannot charge 22% on a disputed deduction. |

Gilbertase: his grouse isnt the interest rate perse, it was that he was lured with the promise he would get more funds than what First bank could offer, and they ended up reneging on that promise. So he ended up loosing both ways..didnt get more funds and now has to pay a higher interest rate on the same funds first bank already gave him at 18% My point still stands they he has no agreement with GTBank, It is not uncommon for overzealous marketers to promise what their banks cannot deliver, he will be wasting his legal fees. |

E99E: I am not surprised to hear this news. We can all see the detailed account of what transpired as listed by innoson solicitors.
Earlier this year I was a victim of GTB fraud. This bank wrote promising to approve a higher loan for me if I liquidate my existing loan with First Bank which was at a lower rate of 18%. At that time First Bank couldn't meet up with my demands due to CBN restrictions. I obliged and liquidated my very good loan at First Bank.
Immediately GTB bought over the loan from First Bank they said wrote to me saying there was a mistake and they wouldn't be able to keep to their promise and now that they have bought over the loan I will have to service it at 22%.
I was shocked. The only reason I chose to transfer to GTB was due to the higher loan I was hoping to receive only to be told No....we will give u only what First Bank gave u at 18% but now you will pay us more than you paid First Bank.
Immediately several charges were deducted..and all calls and attempts to get a reversal has not yielded any result.
I have gathered all relevant documents and once I am done with my current projects I will be heading to the courts. Honestly I was warned by fmy FirstBank account officer not to trust GTB as a lot of clients have been duped in the past by the bank.
The fact is GT Bank is a fraud bank. I urge anyone seeking loans to avoid GTB. You must be a poor businessman to not do your homework before migrating your loan. How can you assume the interest rate a bank offers? You will be wasting your legal fees unless there was an enforceable agreement where GTB promises you 18%. |

kudosamass: GTB is on a speed lane to self destruct. As a Bank, this is the most unwise method to settle this type matter. Many companies will certainly think twice before any serious engagement with GTB, even if the Bank is right. The reputation of the Bank will continue to nosedive as long as this case lingers.
For now, it is very clear to all that the Bank is desperate to avoid this payment so as not to go bankrupt. Should the Supreme Court uphold the decision of the Appeal Court, the general public might go into panic withdrawals which may likely collapse the Bank finally.
Whichever way this matter ends, the Bank will be the looser because of the negative public awareness created by the case which the Bank invited on itself. From what I am reading online, some guys are already withdrawing their money to avoid story. The Bank must as a matter of urgency review its Legal Department. I wish them luck shaaaa! Their will be no panic withdraw, neither will GT pay a blackmail ransom. Innoson may think he is winning the media war but he will learn his lessons in time. |
