A pastor in Abuja has been arrested and charged to court for allegedly raping a 6-year old girl.
Michael Dimowo, a resident of Galadimawa village in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory was sentenced to 10 years in prison for having forceful sexual intercourse with the young girl.

The 24-year old pastor was sentenced on Monday by a High Court in the FCT which found that he was not deserving of any mercy.

The Eagle Online reports:
Dimowo, 24, was arraigned by the police on December 3, 2012, accused of rape, which contravenes the provisions of Section 283 of the Penal code.
Delivering judgment, Justice Maudashiru Oniyangi refused to give the convict an option of fine. Oniyangi said: “Based on the forgoing, I find the accused guilty of the offence of rape, which contravenes the provisions of Section 283 of the Penal Code.
“The prosecution was consistent in its evidence through its witnesses. “I hold that the prosecution has discharged the burden of proof pursuant to Section 135(1) of the Evidence Acts.” Oniyangi held that the prosecutor has succeeded in proving all the ingredients of the offence against the accused beyond any reasonable doubts.
He added: “In the convict’s testimony, he said that he was a pastor. “I wonder what he will be preaching to his congregation if at all he is ordained. “To me, he is not a pastor. “The convict should be ashamed of himself because as a pastor he defiled and committed rape on a six-year-old girl.
“You are the Judas Iscariot of faith. “You have betrayed the trust of your congregation.” Oniyangi in his judgment said that the court still remained the last hope of the common man and the convict by his act did not deserve any mercy.
He said: “Matthew 5:7 says Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. “The convict deserves no mercy and I hereby sentence you to 10 years in prison with no option of fine.”

pandemonium at Ise Ekiti in Ise

Ekiti State, yesterday, when a
trader whose name was given
simply as Austin shot his
landlord's daughter to death.

Reason for Austin's action was
not immediately known, but
Vanguard gathered that he shot
the girl after a minor augment.
Immediately the girl was shot,
according to reports, Austin, who
is from one of the eastern states,
made a futile bid to escape but
was caught by the mob.

Vanguard gathered that the killer
was set ablaze at a motor park.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO,
of Ise police station was hit on
the head for attempting to
rescue Austin just before he was
lynched.

Austin, said to be in his late 30s
and a trader, reportedly shot the
girl in front of her father's house
at Iro Oraye area of the town.
Before Austin finally met his
waterloo, he was reportedly
taken to the palace of the
monarch of Ise Ekiti, Oba
Adetunji Ajayi possibly to save his
life, but the mob overpowered
the palace guards, took him to
the town's main motor park
where he was burnt.

The remains of the slain girl and
that of her alleged murderer,
already burnt beyond
recognition, have been deposited
at a mortuary in the town by the
police, while the injured DPO has
been hospitalised.

The Police Public Relations Officer
of the state command, Mr Victor
Babayemi said he was yet to be
briefed on the matter.

Atlanta:A deep freeze spread from the US Midwest to the East and South, setting record low temperatures from Boston to Birmingham, and leaving 21 people dead, authorities said.
The Midwest and the East experienced temperatures colder than much of Antarctica.

In a phenomenon that forecasters said is actually not all that unusual, all 50 states saw freezing temperatures at some point today. That included Hawaii, where it was -8 Celsius atop Mauna Kea, a dormant volcano. (In Pics: Deep freeze in North America)

The big chill started in the Midwest over the weekend, and by Tuesday, it covered about half of the country. In New York City, the high was expected to be -12 Celsius; in Boston, around -8 Celsius. (US deep freeze: What is a polar vortex?)

Across the South, records were shattered like icicles.
Birmingham, Alabama, dipped to a low of -14 Celsius, breaking the record of -11.7 Celsius set in 1970.
Atlanta saw a record low of -14.5 Celsius. Nashville, Tennessee, got down to -16.7 Celsius, and Little Rock, Arkansas, fell to -13 Celsius. It was just -17 Celsius at

Washington Dulles International airport, eclipsing the 1988 mark of -13 Celsius.
The deep freeze dragged on in the Midwest as well, with the thermometer reaching -24 Celsius overnight in the Chicago area and -25.5 Celsius in suburban St Louis.

More than 500 passengers were stranded overnight on three Chicago-bound trains that were stopped by blowing and drifting snow in Illinois. Food ran low, but the heat stayed on.
The cold turned deadly as authorities reported at least 21 cold-related deaths across the country since Sunday, including seven in Illinois, and six in Indiana.
