Everything you can see out there I assure you are just same old recycled ideas with a glint of not much difference. All fintech in Nigeria almost do the same thing, no particular uniqueness. If you have serious capital and very serious, then we can discuss a partnership. Many ghouls are out there to prey on idea how people.

I want to start up my own fintech company and i have been having sleepless nights trying to come up with something rare and different yet would likely be in high demand - doesn’t matter if it’s a commercial idea, crypto or banking. If you got that special idea kindly hmu and if good i will pay for it or we partner together to make it a reality. Thank you
I’m plagued with so many ideas that I wonder what kind of world could one exist with such a beautiful affliction and abundance of capital. I’m literally an idea generating human machine. I have a wonderful and remarkable fintech idea which I have been honing as far back as 2011/12 and has now been perfected circadian 2018. Its a fintech that not only standalone but best work with a particular type of eCommerce - an another idea of mine. but I don’t trust people because for so many obvious reasons in Nigeria, until I can file for patent and stuff to protect copycats from replication, so I’m taking my time. I have yet another fintech idea I can relate with you if you’re game. I have so many ideas on other realms as well, one particularly pertains to a pending project of mine which I’ve been thinking of how it will go places if it can be made into an app as it will capture the attention of those who can’t help themselves but to love such things!

All my ideas novel.
All my ideas solve real life problems.

2) Trade Secrets

A trade secret is any confidential business information which provides an enterprise with a competitive edge.

A trade secret has been defined as information of any type that is actually or potentially valuable to its owner and not generally known or readily ascertainable by the public and which the owner has made a reasonable effort to keep secret.

One of the most popular companies in the world with trade secrets is Coca-Cola. The formula or recipe for their drinks is unknown .

The formula, code named "Merchandise 7X" is said to be known to only two anonymous senior executives at every point in time, and these executives who have signed non-disclosure agreements are never to travel together. The paper on which the recipe is written was kept in the vault of a bank in Atlanta, Georgia, before it was moved into a highly secured purpose-built vault5 within the World of Coca-Cola, the company's museum in Atlanta, United States of America. Considering that a trade secret is essentially “secret” information whose value lies in its nondisclosure, a trade secret can be protected for an unlimited period of time; that is, indefinitely as long as it remains undisclosed.

For these reasons, the protection of trade secrets may appear to be particularly attractive for businesses that there profitability is hinged on their unique method of production

I already know all of that concerning Trade Secret and as it contrast to patents (disclosing your formula to an authorized body in exchange for protection over a period of time), as for Coca-Cola...I've read years back on 'Reader's Digest' how their uniqueness is based on their trade-secret and all of that, except for the two executives who must never meet, however still....I'm still a huge fan of Pepsi-Cola for life! Just to give you an hint, as at 2004, I've been consuming Pespi at the rate of 15 bottles/plastics/cans per day till date (though it began declining since 2018/19), I nevertheless still manage to gulp a minimum of 5-7 plastics of the carbonated soft-drinks nowadays.

Given the name of your moniker, are you an official whose field is linked with patent registering ?

Thanks for all the info.

No one patented fintechs,
Correct

Patented:
no one patented commercial communication
True

Patented:
but the technology behind would have been patented.
Exactly....what I am asking....It is the novelty of a would-be method invented on and by technology to aid and solve an issue within transactioning in a type of financial world, majority of which are now technologized and best referred to as 'fintech'.

Patented:
Like I said .....no info.......limited help
I understand there are characteristics by which an idea/invention can be qualified for patenting, nevertheless, you can't expect me or anyone to disclose the nature, or key concept of the idea here just so you can get the full picture and therefore respond advisedly, I have therefore came up with the following analogy.

There is noodles (right ?) We have different noodle makers such as Indomie, ChickiChiki, Mimee, Minemee, Honeywell etc
So you have an idea on how noodles can be cooked without using water and still would be served cooked and taste better, you went ahead and create it but yet to launch it, the possibility that once you launch it to the consuming public, other makers of noodles may in turn start mimicking the formula by which the idea behind your product is patronized, the question is....can the formula behind the idea be patented prior to been launched into the public ? You may substitute the word "formula" with 'method/business-method.

Patented:
IP has some intricacies that can sometimes only be catered for with adequate info. Without info an or an idea of what exactly we are dealing with comprehensive and proper advise may be impossible.
As a general concept, I do not believe your method of doing business can be protected by patent laws. It is only an idea for now.
Agreed but not if my method of doing business was not only the first on the scene, but has become the intellectual property ascribed to a company with a name that is eponymous to the very concept behind the fin-tech method of conduction such business. For instance the word "google" has become an house-hold name that implies to look up something, and the name is eponymous to the company name itself (before it became Alphabet Inc). There were previously other search engines portals before Google came up such as Lycos and Yahoo! and Binge!, but Google came up with a search engine algorithm with an algorithm that's so unique and efficient thereby setting it apart from others, and they filed for a patent to which it was granted. Now, because it is USA, where law is law, Yahoo, AskJeeves, Lycos, Binge and all others would never ever copy or make use of Google indexing search formula, whether be it a trade-secret or open-secret any programmer can do, because that patent law protects them. It is in the same vein, I am asking, but here in Nigeria...where I used the noodle analogy above. Would the patent law be able to deter others from copying, mimicking or cleverly cloning my technologized method of conducting, not just a business transaction, but a type within the fin-tech world of commerce and trade.

Ofcourse I am aware of all that.

Why wouldn't you guys understand that in all my inquiry to which I'm seeking your good advise on, the idea, as I expect you ought to assume, is ofcourse, within the ambit of after having executed, launched and set into operation, and NOT about embarking on a journey of seeking to patent what hasn't been created. And so I ask again below....

Patented:
Nothing, quote know if under the Patents and Designs Act would allow you to validly patent
a business method/way of doing business.

I am not familiar with the patent laws in the US or UK...there may be provisions that make business method patent possible.

However the truth is, you could get away with patenting such in Nigeria(naija factor) but if it gets to court, it's is unlikely to stand up to judicial scrutiny.
In reference to the statement of the above attached screenshot....would after launching and executing a particular way of conducting business (and by virtue of its novelty of haven't been done before), would I stand to be protected if a patent is granted, would the patent deter any parties from copying, mimicking, emulating and using my same idea of how the business (transaction, operation) is conducted.

Under the Nigerian legal framework , patent is covered under the Patent - Patents and Design Act Cap P2 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

For a work to be patented , it must be an invention that is novel and solves a technical problem .The work must also be capable of mass production i.e industrial application. Other cogent requirements are contained in the aforementioned act.

Understood.

But still, the summary of all I'm trying to get at with my inquest on this thread is summarized in the two attached screenshot below. I will like to know if the principle highlighted in the attached images also apply within the Nigeria patent laws, hence qualifying my company to file for a patent, in order to deter any from stealing my fintech idea by way of mimicking, emulating, direct copying, clever imitation whatsoever.

As an informed contributor to this thread, I thank you for sharing your insight.

Patented:
IP laws are not designed to make the registration bodies become regulatory bodies that can take positive action to protect. the responsibility lies on the owner to take the the necessary to protect his IP rights by going to court.
I get your point that IP laws don't exist to deterring poachers from infringing or mimicking what is proprietarily ascribed to an owner, or an inventor (as it would be in my regards), but given the kind of country we are, where rules and laws can be flouted and circumvented, my question is, and one predicated on taking up measure if push comes to shove, would I be empowered by these laws to file a lawsuit against any whom, in anyway, borrowed, copied, mimicked or imitates the novelty core upon which my IP property is based on functioning in the Fintech space, I wouldn't want an idea that took me almost half a decade to conceived, hone and perfected be flagrantly replicated without permission.

Patented:
See the law is one thing the application or enforcement is another. the laws exist to protect but that protection is not automatic against dubious and desperate people who want to exploit your IP and the goodwill you have in it.
Take for instance, someone comes up with a Sport Betting formula that's not only innovative but a game-changer to how various sports matches are wagered online, a truly original and novel mechanism that attracts more users to it, and later on, after a year or more, many of the established old platforms began to cleverly incorporate that exact formula into theirs, and while some did it cleverly, others simply just imitates it, impressing the emerging new ones who simply just plagiarized it, now how does the original creator/inventor of this be protected from having his/her formula lifted (any ignorant may argue it's simply just coding anyone can do, if so why don't we have a multiple of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and SnapChat, ofcourse there may be similar but patent and copyright laws protect the core idea/concepts that makes them unique) In Nigeria, I have noticed that everyone tend to copy each other, and the whole bunch just keep doing the exact same thing, originally started by someone, as it can be observed not just in the Fintech space but in other field too, like in the e-Commerce industry.

Patented:
there mere registration does not automatically mean that it will not be copied or stolen, this applies in Nigeria and other parts of the world. . In the event of an infringement on your IP rights you must take action by suing the person involved.
Can you please provide me with any real life events involving parties where one's intellectual property (patented or copyrighted) was knowingly/unknowingly infringed upon and there was justice prevail in favor of the infringed (and not the infringer).

Thanks.

Good morning . Just seeing this .

The Patents and Design Act Cap P2 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 , covers for the grant of patent rights to inventors in Nigeria . I am personally aware of a few patented inventions and designs in Nigeria including some of popular fashion designer , Deola Sagoe designs .

As a tech inventor , you can protect your intellectual property rights through copyright and the novelty of what you are working on can also qualify you for “ patents “ depending on how truly unique your idea/invention is and if it meets all other requirements provided under the act .

You can send me a mail via olaoluwaidowu700@gmail.com for more details and enquiries on this .
Thank you for the prompt reply. I actually sent you an email, right after I made that post.

I get your point and I can say I understand the basic difference between Copyright, Trademark and Patents. Could you just for my sake and those of others, expatiate on the core difference between the aforementioned three especially as it relates with my concerned which I will be elaborating to the contributor 'Patented' below:

Hi Idowu

Appreciate the thread

Had no idea an individual like you exist among tech people in this part.

I'm more interested in the area of safe-guarding my one of my intellectual property from being blatantly copied, stolen and or mimicked, as it involves coding a unique type of payment solution that has never before done before. A fintech novelty.

Because of this I'm learning coding myself and would like to be guided as to how one can patent it before launch. I pretty much understand that one cannot request a patent for an idea or a business idea. One can only be granted an exclusive patent right for inventing, a product or a process that provides a new way of doing something, or that which offers a new technical solution to a problem.

My concern is...in Nigeria, does our patent laws exist to genuinely protects the interest of the tech inventor.

I want to believe that some people do have the gift of telepathy.

Unfortunately, I am not on TikTok, twitter, facebook, snapchat etc, the Instagram I registered for years ago must miss me so much as I have not visited not performed any act therein. I can't keep up, with those mbok.

I don't consider compatibility via horoscope before venturing into a relationship.

To be candid with you, I don't know what the "wallet-rape" you mentioned here means, also don't know much about the slangs going about on social media platforms lately, and yes it's possible that I don't get it right painting my nails by myself due to my clumsiness but, yes I still try. I would not like to tell the origin of my clumsiness on this platform.

There was true love in the ancient times when money didn't exist, but what do you regard as money? They did have valuables that could have been exchanged for other needs, like animals, farm produce, gold etc.

I really did enjoy the secret of the sand that year, always kept us glued to the TV. Well your yoruba adage may not be just for dance alone, as the woman could also be swayed away by love etc by another man, only emotionally insecured people use that adage forgetting the fact that anyone could change his or her mind at anytime, given the circumstances. My opinion remains 100%.

Yes, true love does exist for those who would chose to acquire every other thing that comes, with it like, patience, tolerance, understanding etc.
Well, I like to think and type a lot on a norms, but I'm seriously 'Down With The Sickness' (a track by a hard-rock band called Disturbed used as the soundtrack for Queen of the Damned starring the late Aaliyah). Thing about me with malaria fever is sometimes if I fold up cringing on a spot for too long, the whole feverish thing tend to overwhelm me and grows stronger, but as I try to find one activity or another to do as I'm used to on a norms, I kinda fight it back. But this one stubborn oo! I'm told to get a drip.

As per that Yorùbá adage, the "dance" word was only used in a metaphorical sense, it can be interchanged with anything depending on the context of interpretation. The point is "if you use money marry wife, na another money bag wey get money pass you go steal her go" just like it could be anything. Love and relationship should go beyond money is all I'm saying. What about qualities that don't fade, like sense of humor, intellect, shrewdness, prudence, ability to invoke tranquility etc.

Do you agree that most of the relationships in the western world and arab world are not peculiarly based on money and like I said I get all your point, but I'm not in for the 100% thing, be it in Nigeria or anywhere, why should money be the overall reason why we are in a true and loving relationship, what if something unexpected happened (like a bad investments) along the line and all the money vanished, the woman/lady/spouse/girlfriend would definitely go.

I'm guessing you understand Yorùbá and possibly a speaker too. I'll respond to your other comments later on, I just have to go and find a way to sleep.

Yeah, can't remember, my clumsiness has an origin.

I enjoy looking into the horoscope, I am Gemini and have recently picked serious interest in it as it somewhat reflects my personality.

That was a cool song and it immediately reminded me of Linkin park's version years ago, I enjoyed it especially listening to the lyrics of the song. As for if guys want love if it is torture as Taylor Swift tried to say in her song well, I wish I knew the heart of men, I am only a woman.

If you ask me I would say 100%, you would be frustrated in a relationship without money, money beautifies any relationship and helps you express how you feel.
DELAYED REPLY
I've been terribly under the weather battling serious malaria-fever. I'm just using agidi-okunrin to do things when I should be resting.

TORTUOUS LOVE
You wish you knew the heart of men! well...I wish I can read the thoughts and mind of not just women, but humans. Unfortunately there is no juju nor any means to acquire or develop telepathic ability.

EMO/GOTH/HARD-ROCK MUSIC
Hell yeah you're right, it was reminds one of the original track titled 'In The End' by Linkin Park from their very first album called Hybrid Theory and a slurry remix of the same track on their second album named 'ReAnimation' titled 'Enth E Nd'. That original one it reminded you of was a banger back then, this Mellen Gi remix version featuring Fleurie is the most beautiful female rendition of an Alt. Rock-Rap music I've ever heard in my life, it has the power to pacify a troubled soul. Only that, I got to notice that some TikTok and Instagram users kept using it as their background music in all manners of videos, whether it befits or not. Kinda makes me sick.

ZODIAC
In as much as I'm a deeply rational entity I can't help but to agree with you that those horoscopic revelation usually tend to be true and near accurate, I fall under Cancer, the reason why I asked you is because there are those who just go on to check their zodiac compatibility and I am always like WTF! because it has long been disregarded as fringe-science in the scientific world favored by charlatans who clinging on to the pseudo-science remnant of Astrology! NB: Astronomy (scientific) was derived from astrology (junk/trashed science) in the same vein Alchemy (pseudoscience) beget Chemistry (scientific). So I ask, would you consider zodiac compatibility before dipping your toe in a promising relationship ?

MONIKER PREFIX ORIGIN
Could your clumsiness have anything to do with not getting right when painting your nails yourself or finding it hard to navigate your way to the treasure trove during a wallet-rape session (lol)? If I guessed wrong, I wouldn't mind knowing if you don't mind telling.

MONEY IN RELATIONSHIP
I agree, but weren't there true love and the expression of it in the ancient world were money was never in existence ? Anyways, for the same reason money helps to define the expression of real love from one love-bird to another, same money has proved itself to play a major role in the corrupting and destruction of relationships, and I don't lack of, I mean both in adequate and ample amount of, so I will pick 50% and leave room for others to share the remaining 50% in regards to factors like...always been there, achieving together, loyalty, faithfulness, bla bla bla... the kind of love that would make a Tom Cruise to risk it all just to save his wife in Mission:Impossible 3. He understood his wife 100% so much that he could read her lips from afar, and I suppose his wife knew the things he fell in love with her hubby for. Yoruba proverb says "obinrin ti wan ba fi ijo fe, ijo ni wan ma fi gbe lo" which literally translate to "a wife who was swoon into marriage by the performance of a superb dancer would eventually be whisked away by another great dancer" so the 100% money thing kinda tend to crumble there if you can apply it as an analogy. Don't get me wrong, I understand that immense hardship and widespread poverty in the environs and of the mind, has eaten deep into the fabrics of our reality here, ceaselessly twisting the minds of the majority as intense love for materialism as replaced love for the immaterial, while Abrahamic religions continues to provide the avenues for most Nigerians to engage in debauchery, ignominy and hypocrisy. A lot of abnormality as become normalcy 'norms' permeating our once rich but now fallen society. Forgive my musing, all I'm trying to say is....it's hard to find realness in such a fallen society as ours, whether money is 100% injected into a relationship or not, note that I said "realness" instead of "true love" which is has gone into extinction long before the days of Secret of The Sand, it just took us a long time to notice.

Do you believe true love may still exist (hiding somewhere for bonafide true-lovers to find it) or it has never even existed (a pipe dream) ?
