Health / Are You Sleeping With The Right Pillow Based On Your Sleep Position? Find Out! by Y4all: 8:57am On Feb 02, 2022
For one to have a memorable sleep experience, there are so many factors that come to play: your mattress, room temperature, noises, and light. This interplay isn’t complete without a mention of your pillow. To our greatest amazement, our pillows play an important role in ensuring that we get quality sleep. However, picking the right pillow for our sleep position could be a tricky adventure. In a bid to choose the right pillow, most of us spend a lot of time surfing the internet to make the right pick. But in most cases, we’re left more confused because there’s quite a lot to choose from. One is always perplexed by the questions of how am I supposed to know which pillow is the right one for me?

Well, allow me to take you through my personal process of picking the pillow that’s going to keep your posture healthy, but also satisfy all your unique sleep needs.

How to choose the right pillow
Before you embark on the journey to make your pillow pick, you need to be armed with this information. For you to maintain a healthy posture, you must know that each sleeping position requires a different type of pillow. Yes! Your sleeping position is just one reflection of your slumber habits, and there’s a lot more to consider when you’re on the hunt for your perfect pillow.

That said, I’m going to mix-n-match some of these “wants” with different sleep styles. This way, you can find out exactly how to keep a neutral spine in each sleeping position, and then pick and choose which special features you’d like your pillow to have!

Back Sleepers pillow guide
In order to maintain a healthy posture, back sleepers need pillows that should support their neck and head, but not so much that the neck is propped up at an unnatural angle. Remember, you want your spine and neck to stay aligned while you sleep, so back sleepers probably want a medium-thick pillow—something that’s not too full, but not too flat. A medium-thick pillow is going to help relieve pressure in your neck and shoulders by providing a nice, cushy buffer between you and your mattress. Additionally, back sleepers might find that pillows filled with materials that conform to pressure (like memory foam, for example), are particularly beneficial.

Side Sleepers pillow guide
If you’re a side sleeper, your pillow should support your head in a neutral position, keeping it aligned with your spine. Side sleepers need a pillow with a high loft, and firmer support because your shoulder takes most of the pressure when you sleep on your side, you may want a fuller, firmer pillow to give your neck the support it needs and take some of the weight off your shoulder. The reason is that a pillow with a taller profile is going to prop your head up so that it’s in neutral alignment with your spine. Additionally, a lofty pillow will relieve pressure on your shoulder, and make sure that it’s not bearing the brunt of your body’s weight. If you ever feel like your shoulder is deeply digging into your mattress, your pillow might not be lofty enough.

Stomach sleepers pillow guide
Sleeping on your stomach is the most stressful position for your back and neck, so many experts recommend trying to train yourself to sleep in another position. We know that you can’t change your sleeping habits overnight, so if you do sleep on your stomach, you’ll want a pillow that’s softer and a little less full. This will help keep your spine as neutral as possible. In fact, some experts suggest avoiding the prone position altogether, as it tends to position the upper cervical spine at end-range rotation or extension. Essentially, this means you’re at greater risk of straining your neck and putting pressure on your lower back or abdomen. In order to maintain neutral spine alignment, stomach sleepers need a pillow with a low loft (two inches or shorter). Soft Support — Pillows with soft support are going to provide a cushy buffer between you and your mattress, but also ensure that your head is not too propped up. The firmer the pillow, the more likely it is for your neck to be lifted out of alignment with your spine and that’s when the soreness sets in.

Health / What Is The Best AC Temperature For Sleeping? by Y4all: 1:20pm On Jan 29, 2022
Did you know that there’s a connection between your body temperature and your sleep? Biologically, our ability to enter a natural sleep-wake cycle is actually governed by our body temperature. Scientists now believe that our body temperature impacts the amount and quality of sleep we receive each night.

What does this mean in practical terms? The temperature of our bedroom or sleeping space could be adversely impacting your ability to attain regular, quality sleep. The ideal room temperature for sleeping typically varies from person to person, depending on your comfort levels.

However, sleep experts believe that cooler temperatures work better than warmer temperatures since they assist with your body’s core temperature drop. Experts claim the best temperature for sleeping in Celsius is 25 degrees for sleeping at night. The experts found that the ideal bedroom temperature is 25°C. But this may vary for each person.

Here are the steps you can take to find the perfect temperature for your good night's sleep.
Close all the windows and doors
To get your AC to work properly, you need to close the doors and windows before you run the AC. This will help your AC to reach the temperature on the remote faster.

Set the temperature gradually
You do not have to set the lowest temperature when you turn on the AC. To start, set it to 28°C. After your body gets used but you still feel too warm, lower the temp 1 or 2 degrees. Wait until the room temperature is changed. Repeat this step till you get the perfect temperature.

Increase the temperature before falling asleep
When you sleep, your body gets colder. That is why you will feel chilly even after you set the comfortable temp before. As a solution, you want to increase the temperature up to 2-3 degrees before you fall asleep.

Using the mode on your remote
To have your AC setting its temperature according to the condition of the room, you can apply auto mode. AC will detect your room’s temperature and adjust the perfect degrees for you.
If you want to have your AC turned off automatically after you sleep, you can take advantage of a timer setting. By setting the timer, you do not have to wake up to turn your AC off.

Other sleep tips
To improve sleep quality, people can follow a regular sleep routine and practice good sleep hygiene.

Individuals can help improve their sleep by
Sticking to a consistent sleep routine and schedule, even on weekends
Limiting daytime naps to 30 minutes
Getting regular exercise
Using comfortable, natural fiber bedding and cleaning it regularly
Investing in a high-quality mattress and pillow set
Sleeping in the nude or wearing natural fiber pajamas
Taking a warm shower or bath 1–2 hours before bed
Eating a light, easy-to-digest evening meal, as large meals can overstimulate digestion
Performing breathing exercises, meditation, or relaxing stretches
Consuming drinks that promote sleep, such as herbal tea, cherry juice, or milk
Avoiding or reducing the intake of alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks, especially in the afternoon and evening
Turning off electronics a few hours before bedtime and keeping devices out of the bedroom
Dimming or turning off lights before bed and using only night lights during the night
Using blackout curtains to filter out street lights
Allowing natural light to come into the room 30–60 minutes before waking

What's the takeaway?
So, to sum it all up, the ideal body temperature for sleeping is around 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit, or between 15 and 19 C (usually around 65 F/18 C). You have a range of choices for how you achieve that temperature, but all in all, using a traditional air conditioner might not be the best idea. You might consider a more advanced, smart thermostat, or a specially designed bed cooling system of your choice to help you achieve that temperature.
Remember, your body needs a slightly cooler temperature to get proper rest, so don't overlook the importance of this!

Health / Should Babies Share A Bed With Their Parent: Find Out? by Y4all: 3:39pm On Jan 28, 2022
The question about babies sharing a bed with their parents is certainly a controversial topic. For many cultures in Nigeria, safe co-sleeping, the act of parents sharing a bed with their children, is the most natural and obvious way to get some rest while bonding. While studies and findings indicate that such acts have led to a high proportion of infants who die as a result of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). The recent medical survey suggests that bed-sharing is the primary cause of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) – the leading cause of death among infants aged 1-12 months. The proponents have argued that co-sleeping breastfeeding is more convenient and increases the bond between mother and infant.

With these positions, there has been a tremendous amount of information and misinformation — out there about the subject matter. The proponents and opponents of these positions have only succeeded in muddying the waters around co-sleeping and making it difficult for parents to make comfortable, rational decisions about the best way to raise their kids.

For families who do choose co-sleeping, out of principle or pragmatism, still more questions arise. What kind of newborn co-sleeper is best for keeping an infant in arm’s reach but out of harm’s way? When does a co-sleeping toddler transition to their own bed? Is co-sleeping just downright bad? With everything from bedside co-sleepers and cribs to suspended co-sleeper bassinets on offer, there’s a lot to sort through.

To bring some clarity to co-sleeping, this article intends to lay bare the pros and the cons and provide our co-sleeping advice for parents.

Some of the benefits include:
Bonding: Many families and cultures value the practicality and physical togetherness of sharing a bed. This is especially so for parents who have unusual work schedules and are unable to be present at all hours. To them, co-sleeping provides yet another precious time and moment to bond and give them that sense of safety and security.
Breastfeeding: Co-sleeping can help nursing parents more readily feed their babies in the middle of the night or wee hours of the morning. In close proximity, you’re able to keep this activity hushed and peaceful — fostering a sense of restful relaxation. Co-sleeping may even encourage extended breastfeeding.
Less bedtime stress: Some toddlers have a serious case of bedtime FOMO (fear of missing out). They don’t want to be relegated to their own room and separated from the comforting proximity of their parents. Bed-sharing can cut down on the time, energy, and effort it takes to get a little one off to sleep.

Some of the cons include:
Poor quality sleep: Co-sleeping can disrupt your sleep. A 2015 study found that mothers with infant co-sleepers reported more night waking and poorer sleep than their counterparts with infants sleeping on their own.
Mental consequences: Sleep deprivation and well-being go hand in hand. Parents are notoriously starved of rest and downtime. This can lead to higher reported levels of anxiety, stress, and depression.
Lack of kid-free time: Sharing a bed as a family may limit your ability to have quality 1:1 time with your partner. Co-sleeping comes at the expense of your relationship or your personal needs.

Our co-sleeping advice
While many pediatric bodies and medical health research institutes warm against co-sleeping with babies, they often recommend the practice of room-sharing without bed-sharing. Sleeping in the parents’ room but on a separate surface lowers a baby’s risk of SIDS. However, if some parents decide bed-sharing is best for their family despite the risks. You need to follow these precautions:

Follow all of our other safer sleep advice to reduce the risk of SIDS such as sleeping baby on their back
Avoid letting pets or other children in the bed.
Make sure the baby won’t fall out of bed or get trapped between the mattress and the wall.
Don’t place a baby to sleep alone in an adult bed.
Don’t place a baby on a soft surface to sleep, such as a soft mattress, sofa, or waterbed. Make sure your bed’s mattress is firm.
Make sure your mattress fits snugly in the bed frame so that your baby won’t become trapped between the frame and the mattress.
Don’t cover your child’s head while they’re sleeping.
Don’t have pillows, comforters, quilts, and other soft or plush items on the bed. You can dress your baby in a sleeper instead of using blankets.
Don’t place your bed near draperies or blinds where your child could be get caught in and strangled by cords.
Don’t fall asleep with a baby on your chest.
Do not sleep on couches, recliners, or rockers with a baby.
Also, don’t smoke, drink alcohol, or use medicines or drugs that can make you less alert or keep you from waking up.
Avoid bed-sharing with infants who are at greatest risk of SIDs. This includes those younger than 4 months, preterm babies, and those who had a low.

Health / How To Spot A Genuine Orthopedic Mattress In The Nigerian Market by Y4all: 9:03am On Jan 25, 2022
For those out there that suffer from both overnight, morning aches, and severe back pains, an orthopedic mattress must have been prescribed as a definite solution. Touted to be the best mattresses for back pain and back support, the demand for orthopedic mattresses is steadily on the rise as our lifestyles are becoming increasingly sedentary and stressful. Ideally, quality and properly designed orthopedic mattresses are solid firm mattresses that are tailored to support your back, joint, and overall body and alleviate pains in this area. They are therapeutic mattresses that promote spinal alignment, aid even weight distribution, isolate motion and enhance a healthy posture. Still, they can harm your body if it is not an ideal fit for you or if you are using a fake orthopedic mattress. From a market perspective and due to the increasing trend and quest by many Nigerians to get an orthopedic mattress, manufacturers have taken advantage of the situation to continue to flood the market with substandard “Orthopedic” mattresses that are incapable of alleviating back and neck pains. In view of this, it seems like every mattress on the market today is advertised as “orthopedic”- including the ones many out there are currently suffering on. So what is an orthopedic mattress?

What is an orthopedic mattress?
For purposes of clarity and from the term itself, it is evident that it has to do with the health of your bones and supporting them. When considered in the context of mattresses, an orthopedic mattress is a mattress designed to support your bones and bone joints, and more specifically, the alignment of your spine. Orthopedics mattresses are a type of firm mattress used when you need to recover from a spine trauma or are recovering from back issues, etc.

How to Spot a genuine orthopedic mattress
There are different kinds of orthopedic mattresses available in the market right now. Unfortunately, all mattresses for back pain that claim to be orthopedic are not genuinely orthopedic. Here are some basic pointers to keep in mind while looking to buy a genuine orthopedic mattress online or in a store:
It provides differentiated zonal support to your body so that your body weight is distributed optimally.
It is scientifically engineered to contour to the shape of your back and cradle your whole body.
To know a true orthopedic mattress, the Mattress should be pressure-relieving and support proper spine alignment.
It lends medium-firm to firm support, depending on your requirement.
It is breathable.
It is tested and recommended by credible health experts.
Endeavor to buy from a trusted brand.

Another important factor to consider when buying an orthopedic mattress is to look for a genuine warranty and a trustworthy brand that justifies the claims made by the mattress in providing enhanced back support. While there are many mattresses that claim to be orthopedic, unless it is tested and recommended by a body of experts it might actually just be labeled as one.

Family / Causes And Solutions On Why You Always Wake Up Tired by Y4all: 4:45pm On Jan 21, 2022
Do you always wake up with the thought that you didn’t get enough sleep as a result of how tired you are? If that’s the first thing that pops into your mind as soon as your alarm clock beeps, then this article will be very helpful to you. While it is normal to wake up tired sometimes it calls for some serious concern when this occurrence becomes regular. However, the frequency of this can be a symptom of an underlying sleep habit or health condition. This calls for more concern if the person continues to feel tired throughout the day.

This article lists some of the most common causes for waking up tired. It also outlines some treatments and home remedies that may help alleviate the issue.

Sleep inertia
Sleep inertia occurs when a person wakes suddenly from deep, or slow-wave, sleep. As a result, certain parts of their brain are not fully awake. That heavy feeling right after you wake up is what sleep inertia is all about. You feel tired, maybe a little disoriented, and not quite fully ready to hit the ground running. It can affect anyone. Sleep inertia usually doesn’t last that long, but some people experience a version that lasts longer, known as prolonged sleep inertia.
In some cases, people who experience severe morning sleep inertia may be at higher risk for confusion during sleep arousal or sleep drunkenness, difficulty concentrating, poor decision making, etc.

Some solutions of sleep inertia include:
A cup of coffee upon waking may put you on the right track.
A short nap, ideally between 10 to 20 minutes in the afternoon, can help counteract your sleepiness.
Exposure to dawn light — even artificial dawn light with a lightbox — may help you feel more alert.

Poor sleep hygiene practices
The National Sleep Foundation defines sleep hygiene as a range of “practices and habits that are necessary to have good nighttime sleep quality and full daytime alertness.” Poor sleep hygiene can lead to poor quality sleep.

Some examples of poor sleep hygiene practices include:
Not having a regular bedtime routine, which includes regular sleep and wake times
Taking daytime naps that exceed 30 minutes
Looking at phone or computer screens within 2 hours of going to bed
Having an uncomfortable mattress or pillow

Suggestions on how to correct such habits include:
Purposefully go to bed earlier each night.
Don’t smoke or drink alcoholic or caffeinated beverages in the hours before bedtime.
Don’t have any distractions in the bedroom such as a TV or a computer.
Use relaxation techniques to help you fall asleep quickly.
Seek professional assistance for sleep disorders such as snoring.

Poor sleep environment
A poor sleep environment can have a big impact on the quality of your sleep, as a result, impacting in you being tired upon waking up.

Some of the problems may include:
Mattress problems
If your morning fatigue is accompanied by stiffness or aching body parts, your mattress could be to blame. Research shows that a medium-firm mattress is best. The age of your mattress also matters. Visit www.wincofoam.com to see the wide range of Winco mattresses and other bedding products to make a perfect choice that will suit your body and budget. Winco foam industries also advise that you should make sure your mattress isn’t hurting your sleep quality by:
Replacing your mattress every 9 or 10 years, ideally with a medium-firm mattress
Use a hypoallergenic mattress cover if you have allergies.

Too-cold or too-hot bedroom
Sleeping in a too hot or too cold room can make it difficult for you to fall or stay asleep. Personal preference of your bedroom temperature matters, but a cooler room is better to help you fall and stay asleep

Create the optimal temperature for quality sleep by:
Keeping your bedroom between 60°F and 67°F (16°C and 19°C)
Wearing socks to bed or placing a hot water bottle at your feet
Choosing appropriate sleepwear and bedding for your local climate

Loud noises
Even if you’re the type of person who can fall asleep with the TV on, noise can still have a big impact on your sleep quality. Reducing background noise can help to increase the amount of deep sleep you get each night and decrease the number of times you wake up during the night.
Even if you can’t get rid of the source of noise, you can try:
Improve your sleeping environment in any way you can – for example, keep it dark and sound-proof, turn off lights and wear earplugs if you have noisy neighbors.

The bottom line
To avoid waking up with all the morning grogginess, it is best that you improve your sleep hygiene, do your best to get the perfect amount of sleep every night in a very conditioned sleep environment. To get a fresh snooze experience, you can visit www.wincofoam.com for your mattresses and other beddings and you are guaranteed to have the perfect blend of comfort and value in all products. However, these remedies are not exhaustive but you can seek further medical attention for underlying health conditions if nothing seems to change.

Health / 5 Quick Tricks To Quit Snoring by Y4all: 5:21pm On Jan 20, 2022
From gentle snuffles to loud rasps and snorts, snoring is common, and quitting snoring is also possible. An estimated 45 percent of adults snore occasionally, while 25 percent snore regularly. You may be among the 45% of adults who snore at least occasionally or you likely know someone who does. But why do people snore? Snoring could be a function of so many factors that causes our upper airway to become too narrow for enough air to travel to the lungs. When this happens the surrounding tissue vibrates and results in sounds we recognize to snore. The narrower your airway becomes, the greater the vibration and the louder the snores.

Asides from snoring being a form of disruption and discomfort to your friends or your partner, snoring can equally be annoying and can also affect how you sleep. It reduces the quality of your sleep, could result in sleep apnea, or lead to chronic sleep deprivation.

There are so many stop-snoring aids that are sold in the market today but there’s no full proof of the efficacy of these over-the-counter sprays and pills.

However, the good news is there are natural snoring remedies that can help. Instead of going through the route of taking pills and sprays, you can try these natural solutions and lifestyle changes, which may help you stop snoring.

Change your sleeping position
Sleeping on your back can cause your airways to become blocked or narrowed. If you notice that you snore while sleeping on your back it is time to switch up your sleeping position. Sleeping on your side is usually recommended. Old habits die hard so the odds are that as you drift deeper into sleep you’d roll unto your back again. The fix? Invest in a body pillow. A body pillow will help you maintain sleeping on your side.

Change your mattress
Perhaps this is one of the quickest ways to stop snoring, investing in the right mattress can make a whole difference not only in getting enough rest but to sleeping snore-free. People who snore may find relief by primarily sleeping on their side, which opens up breathing passages and promotes airflow better than the back sleeping position. This switch may necessitate a mattress that provides sufficient cushioning and contouring for side sleepers. With a whooping 5year warranty, the Winco Grandeur is the ideal choice to solve this problem. Amongst its features is that it’s long-lasting and offers long-term support and comfort on the body which will help reduce snoring.

Alternatively, The Winco elegant is also a suitable choice, it is a high density, resilient, luxury mattress with its unique pocketed spring features. It is tailored to support your posture and distribute pressure evenly for better blood circulation. Repulsive to perspiration, allergens and provides amplified comfort. It is noteworthy that as the foam contours shape your body for support, the springs and coils help improve your body alignment, keeping your back and shoulders aligned to encourage your breathing passages to remain open and clear, as a result, you become more relaxed and this will limit snoring.

Quit smoking and avoid alcohol
If you drink alcohol habitually, especially before bed that might be the cause of your snoring. Drinking alcohol a couple of hours before you go to bed relaxes your throat muscles, causing you to snore. Regular smokers are also likely to snore. Smoking irritates your throat tissues leading to inflammation that results in snores.

Exercise to prevent weak tongue and throat muscles. You snore when your tongue and throat muscles are too relaxed. Strengthening them would help you stop. There are a couple of exercises which could help you strengthen you do this. A great and easy hack to get some throat exercise in is singing. So throw yourself a concert in the shower or your car. Your partner or roommates might find it annoying but it’ll be less annoying than your snoring. To work out your tongue, place the tip of your tongue behind the top of your teeth and slide it back and forth for a couple of minutes a day.

Change Your Pillows
Investing in a new pillow is one sure way of reducing snoring. Most Nigerians are oblivious of the fact that allergens in their bedroom and in their pillow may contribute to snoring. Come to thinks of it, when did you last dust the overhead ceiling fan? Replace your pillows? Dust mites accumulate in pillows and can cause allergic reactions that can lead to snoring.

Put your pillows in the air fluff cycle once every couple of weeks and replace them every six months to keep dust mites and allergens to a minimum. However, for your change in pillows, go for the Winco Memory pillow. Because of its Viscoelastic Effect, the Memory pillow is a soft pillow that effectively creates a matrix through which air can move freely. The foam has an open-cell structure that matches pressure against it with the capability of springing back to its original shape almost immediately alleviating pains and aches in the sleeper’s neck. These special pillows are designed to prevent snoring because it is built to prop up your head, which fixes nasal issues.

The bottom line
Occasional snoring can be annoying, but these few tried-and-true tips may help you get through the night with more ease. Some are incredibly simple and fast-acting (say, changing sleep position) while others take a bit more dedication before you’ll notice results. Try a few, perhaps while monitoring your snoring status with an app.

Family / Discover The Secret To A Good Night Sleep For Couples by Y4all: 4:41pm On Jan 18, 2022
Most couples will tell you that compromise is the key to making a relationship work. But one place to never compromise is your sleep surface. Finding the best mattress for a good night sleep for couples means addressing the different needs in a bid to uncover a bed that works for them. For example, one person may suffer from back pain and require a slightly firmer, more supportive mattress. Or you may sleep hot and need a cooling cover with breathable layers of latex or coils — but what if your partner is always cold? Therefore, for couples to discover the secret to a good night’s sleep for couples, they must find time to discuss and agreed on a number of things while also considering the different preferences, sleep positions, and pain points of their partners. More so, is the fact that couples should also consider sleep surfaces with motion isolation, and support ensures a cooler, more comfortable night’s rest for the couples.

Key Factors include:
Support
With two bodies pressing into a mattress, support is more important than ever. A good mattress should evenly support both of you, keeping your spine in a healthy neutral alignment in multiple sleep positions. Further, a mattress with good edge support allows you both to spread out and sleep along the edges of the mattress. A sturdy foam and coil structure keep the edge of the mattress from sagging over time and also helps prevent active sleepers from rolling off the bed.

Motion Isolation
When your partner changes sleeping positions throughout the night, a mattress with good motion isolation will absorb the impact of their movement so that even light sleepers can rest undisturbed beside them. Memory foam typically does the best job at absorbing movement, but pocketed coils also suppress motion transfer.

Firmness Level
No one should have to compromise when it comes to comfort, but the fact is, some couples will disagree with each other over how firm their shared mattress should be. Side sleepers typically need a softer surface that’ll cushion pressure points while stomach sleepers may prefer something firmer to keep their hips elevated and their spine aligned. The key for couples is to find a mattress with a more balanced, medium-firm feel that complements all sleep positions.

Durability
Support and durability also go hand in hand –– the more durable your mattress is, the more supportive it tends to be. A bed will wear down more quickly if two people are sleeping on it each night, so think about getting a mattress that features dense memory foam and strong steel coils, which help lengthen its lifespan.

In view of the foregoing and based on industry expertise over time, Winco Foam considers the Dual side Mattress and the elegant range of mattresses is ideal for couples.

WINCO DUAL SIDE
The Winco Dual Side mattress is a two-faced mattress that can be used on both sides. One side is soft and plush and the other is firm and sturdy. The dual side is a high-density, resilient, luxury mattress.

Business / Difference Between Mattress Warranties And Sleep Trials: Find Out! by Y4all: 10:47am On Jan 15, 2022
Anytime you purchase a new product for your home whether it’s a TV, washing machine, or mattress, it’s natural to think about what happens if the product becomes defective or does not satisfy the purpose of which it was purchased. For a product like a mattress, there are tendencies for confusion to arise between what a mattress warranty means and what sleep trials stand for in an event of damage or defect in the product.

However, for an industry with very competitive prices, brands are in a constant quest to meet the expectations of customers with various incentives such as sleep trials and warranties. With the avalanche of these incentives, customers are often less informed about the technicalities embedded in the two concepts.

This review is a conscious attempt to lay bare the nitty-gritty involved in these two concepts so as to give customers a better appraisal and understanding and of course what to expect in making a purchase.

What Is a Sleep Trial Period?
A Mattress trial period – also known as a Sleep trial – is something mattress manufacturers offer. Sleep trials are trial periods during which you can try out a mattress to determine whether its suits your personal preferences, feels comfortable, promotes good sleep, and so on. If you don’t like the mattress and you’re still within the window of the sleep trial, then you should be able to obtain a refund. Some companies offer a longer trial period, which allows for more time to “test drive” the mattress while some offer shorter trial periods. However, for us at Winco Foam Industries, we give our customers a 14-night sleep trial period.

What to look out for in the Sleep trial period
Trial Length: The sleep trial period must be clearly stated by the company.
Break-In Period:
Many mattress trials also include a required break-in period. A break-in period is a minimum amount of time you must try the mattress before requesting a return. This prevents customers from immediately requesting a return after one or two nights of less-than-ideal sleep on a new mattress.
Return Process: The return process typically starts when you initiate a return with a customer service representative. Most companies require mattresses to be clean and free of defects to qualify for a return.
Refund Type: Depending on the specifics of the policy or dependent upon a period of time, you may receive a full refund, or you may be responsible for covering shipping, handling, or restocking fees.

What is a Mattress Warranty?

A mattress warranty is a guarantee from the manufacturer to repair or replace a mattress with physical defects within a certain period. Warranties can differ by brand, retailer, and model, so it’s essential to understand the exact terms of the warranty of your mattress.

What Is Covered By a Mattress Warranty?
Mattress warranties do not cover all issues that arise. It only accommodates specific problems that may arise. Mattress warranties typically cover two defects, usually
Manufacturing Defect
Sagging and faulty manufacturing.

Factors That Can Void a Mattress Warranty
You may void your mattress warranty if the manufacturer can prove you’ve done something explicitly forbidden in the warranty, so it’s important to avoid these things if you want to preserve your warranty’s coverage. Some of the most common factors that effectively void a mattress warranty include:
Removing the law tag
Transferring ownership
Sagging below the stated threshold
Customer misuse (failing to use proper support, stains, rips, etc.)
Natural wear and tear
Stains, discoloration, or unsanitary conditions
Failure to flip the mattress on a specified schedule

How Long Do Mattress Warranties Last?
As a general rule, mattress warranties tend to last longer than the expected lifespan of the mattress in question. Most mattress lifespans are shorter than the warranty period by a year or more. Mattress warranties may range from 5 years to a full lifetime warranty, but the most common range is between 10 and 20 years.

Last Notes
Although mattress warranties and sleep trial policies can be somewhat confusing, when you better understand what they include, you can shop confidently, knowing your investment is protected. By and large, at the end of the day, just make sure that you are comfortable with what is being offered for the warranty and trial period. As well as being aware of what to expect. Especially if you end up in that rare case that you have a warranty issue or end up not being able to adjust to your new mattress.

Health / Sleep At Work: The One KPI No One Talks About by Y4all: 2:14pm On Jan 13, 2022
In an ever-changing and dynamic work environment, Sleep at work has become an increasingly contentious topic. The impression has always been that Napping during work hours is seen as an on-the-job idling rather than a means for career-thriving. Over the years, researchers and sleep experts have come to realize that sleep is fundamental to every aspect of our lives, including our work performance regardless of the professional endeavor.

Today, this new norm is often accentuated and consolidated by the fact that we live in what is largely a knowledge economy in which an employee’s value is based on their outputs, not their inputs. This means their performance is often more about ultimate results and less about the hours clocked.

In the knowledge-driven and result-oriented economy we want employees to be alert, not just active; engaged, not just present. We want them to be focused on producing the highest quality outputs possible.

While this new norm is yet to get the appropriate legal backing and legislation, more and more companies have recognized that workday napping may be the competitive edge they’ve been looking for all this while. From Google to Ben & Jerry’s, pro-nap companies have invested in nap rooms and futuristic-looking sleep pods to promote snoozing at work. It’s all done in the name of better employee well-being that may ultimately translate to a better bottom line.

Scientifically, Sleeping on the job can make this happen:

Improves Your Mood
Thankfully, a 30-minute nap during your afternoon dip elevates joy, relaxation, and mental refreshment. Not only will you be in a stronger position to combat work blues, but you’ll also be in a better mood when you clock out for quality time with your loved ones.

Boosts Your Creative Thinking
From graphic designers to office managers, many jobs rely on brainstorming and problem-solving. At times when your creative juices dry up, get some shut-eye to rekindle the spark of inspiration. Science shows that a 60-minute nap comprising time spent in rapid eye movement (REM) sleep can potentially boost your creative thinking by as much as 40%.

Enhances Your Productivity
Meeting your sleep need means you’re already in a good position to put your best self forward at work. But if you need a little extra push to check off the items on your to-do list (and still have the energy to rustle up a home-cooked dinner for your family later), a well-timed midday nap can do wonders for your productivity level. Science shows that napping enhances vigor, vigilance, and accuracy. On top of that, it reduces confusion, subjective tiredness, and lapses in reaction time

Upgrades Your Memory Skills
Before downing fish oil supplements to boost your ability to learn, think, and recall, sleep is the most effective weapon to sharpen your brain’s memory function. At work, this can take the form of a power nap (roughly 10 to 20 minutes) to reactivate memory neurons that went offline when you became worn out from your job’s demands.

Enhances Your EQ (Emotional Intelligence)
A 4.0-grade point average may help you get the job at a prestigious company. What actually helps you excel in the position, though, is likely your EQ (emotional intelligence). Your ability to read the room or laugh at your client’s bad joke may be what sets you apart from the crowd.

Yet, when you’re bone-weary tired, it’s harder to emulate inspirational leadership or show off your charismatic personality. That’s where napping can help as it takes the edge off fatigue to recharge your battery. Post-snooze, you may find it easier to turn on the charm, so to speak.

Takeaway
There is a strong business case for this. Naps as short as 10 to 30 minutes can increase alertness, reduce fatigue and improve performance. Not only that, but recent research suggests that napping may be as effective as drugs at reducing blood pressure, so organizations that implement napping policies may save on healthcare costs. The idea that employees should not be allowed to sleep on the job is an outdated taboo from a bygone era. It is a holdover from the days when an employee’s value depended solely on his or her manual inputs.

In the modern economy, however, your value as an employee, manager, or executive often rests on your ability to produce desirable outputs. Progressive organizations recognize that fatigued employees can’t perform at their best. In essence, a tired employee is stealing performance from their employer.

Health / How To Get Better Sleep With Sciatica Pain by Y4all: 9:50am On Jan 11, 2022
Sleeping and Sciatica don’t mix. Who can possibly get a good night’s rest with such pain? When you’re suffering from sciatica, the experience is not just painful, but also uncomfortable. Some people even have difficulties in standing, walking, sitting, and many also have difficulty learning how to sleep with sciatica or sciatica pain when lying down. For some, sleeping with sciatica can lead to anxiety the moments before bedtime as you prepare for the possibility of once again not getting a good night’s rest.

What is sciatica?

The term “sciatica” refers to the pain experienced when the sciatic nerve becomes compressed by inflammation or other spinal abnormalities. Many people often complain that “sciatica wakes me up at night”. Sciatica refers to nerve pain that happens when your sciatic nerve is compressed, irritated, or injured. The sciatic nerve starts in your pelvis run through your buttocks and down your leg to the knee. At the knee, it connects to other nerves that run down the calf and through the foot.

What Causes Sciatica?

When people have back pain, they often refer to it as sciatica. But what causes sciatica to flare up? Sciatica is a very common type of back pain that radiates down the sciatic nerve, hence the name sciatica. The sciatic nerve extends from the lower back and down the back of each leg. Sciatica occurs when the root or roots of the sciatic nerve, located in the lower lumbar spine, are compressed or irritated.

Causes of sciatica include:
Narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back is caused by lumbar spinal stenosis.
Degenerative disc disease is when the discs that cushion the vertebrae break down and cause two or more vertebrae to rub against each other, generally caused by age.
Spondylolisthesis, when one vertebra slips over another one.
Muscle spasms in the buttocks or back.
Additional causes include lack of exercise, obesity, wearing high heels, or sleeping on a mattress that is too soft.

Invest in a Good Mattress
Although your mattress is not the root of your sciatic issues, it could be making it worse. An orthopedic bed is an excellent option if you’re finding yourself losing sleep due to sciatic pain. Plushy, memory foam mattresses can lose their shape quickly and fail to support your spine properly. Winco Foam, therefore, presents the most suitable range of orthopedic mattresses that will give you that firmness and sturdiness.
For Stomach Sleepers:
Invest in a firmer mattress that aligns your body and keeps you afloat. The Winco Orthopedic mattress is most appropriate for this type of sleeper.
For Side Sleepers:
Find a soft mattress that offers support by your hips and shoulders. The Winco Merit Mattress is your best bet to give you’re the support you need.
For Back Sleepers:
it is recommended that you get a medium-firm mattress that gives you full-body support. The Winco Grandeur Mattress is best suited for this purpose

Use a Body Pillow
When sleeping with sciatica, use a body pillow when sleeping on your side or just place a regular pillow between your knees. By putting a pillow between your knees, it helps keep your spine, hips, and pelvis aligned. If sleeping with a pillow seems too bulky or uncomfortable, consider mimicking the same sleeping position without the spine. This will also align your spine with your hips and pelvis. You can check out the Winco range of pillows to give you that comfort that you deserve.

Change Your Neck Pillow
Many people sleep on fluffy pillows that provide very little support. Keeping your cervical spine aligned is highly effective at reducing lower back pain later. Investing in a supportive, high-quality neck pillow can help you avoid suffering from neck pain, as well as lower back pain, and eventually find a more comfortable position at night. The Winco range of pillows is made from fiber and high-quality cotton fabric, tailored to relieve pressure off your neck as you sleep-aiding you with the right neck support for a comfortable sleep.

Do Some Stretches before Bed
Exercising before bed is not recommended as you can quickly find yourself wide awake from the adrenaline rush. However, simple stretches before bed can reduce sleeping with sciatica pain. Many of these stretches can be done on your bed, so you don’t even need to wake up for them.
These are the best stretches for sciatica:
Knees to chest
Pelvic tilt
Knees to the opposite shoulder

Takeaway
Many people with sciatica pain find lying down painful. In general, sleeping on your side or on your back tends to be better than sleeping on your stomach. If you’re a side sleeper, you may find it helpful to put a pillow between your knees and/or between your waist and the mattress. If you like to sleep on your back, you may find putting a pillow under your lower back and/or knees helps reduce pain.

Sleeping with sciatica doesn’t have to be a nightmare because the Winco range of foam products is carefully constructed to help your body repair itself and alleviate sciatica symptoms.

Health / New Year, New Snooze: Refresh Your Mattress by Y4all: 5:48pm On Jan 07, 2022
The beginning of a new year often brings a wave of refreshing and resetting to gear up for the months ahead. Whether it's tackling those New Year's resolutions or simply taking time to get organized, resetting your life can create a sense of accomplishment and empowerment, and set you up for success later on. Many people like to start this process by refreshing their surroundings — like cleaning out the junk drawer or closet, giving the bathroom a good scrub, or freshening up the bedroom.

Like for many who have had their mattress for ages but are adamant to purchase a new one, these tips could help give that sleep surface some new life.

Winco Foam Industry wants to help you with tips on how to refresh your mattress and start the year with a fresher snooze surface. To help you get started, we've compiled our best mattress cleaning tactics to help you (and your mattress) start the year off on the right foot!

Give your mattress good vacuuming.

Mattress vacuuming can help control all those allergens, dead skin, dust mites, and other yucky stuff in your bed. To give your mattress some new life, strip the sheets off your bed and, while using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum, clean the top and sides of your mattress to remove any dirt and dust that has accumulated.
Using the crevice tool can also help dislodge any stubborn dirt. Pay close attention to the seams as this is where dirt and dust can accrue the most. For best practice, try to vacuum your mattress once every three months.

Remove any stains and deodorize.

For urine stains: laundry detergent will be your best friend! But for the first steps — if you're lucky enough to catch a urine stain right away — your initial move should be to blot it up as much as possible. If you own a wet/dry vacuum, use this to help soak up the excess moisture. Immediately sprinkle baking soda to help clean the affected area. Next, mix a few teaspoons of laundry detergent and a cup of warm water, and blot (or spray with a spray bottle — if you have one available) the mixture on the stain and dry up with a towel.

For most other stains: a simple solution of hydrogen peroxide, liquid dish soap, and baking soda will usually do the trick. Mix these components together to create a stain-fighting concoction that goes directly on the blemished portions of your mattress. Blot clean with a clean washcloth to get the job done. Another suggestion is to try mixing lemon juice and salt together to make a paste and leave it on the stain for an hour. Use a clean rag to wipe up the salt crystals that are left behind. Top off your bed with a layer of baking soda and let sit for several hours before vacuuming off to freshen and deodorize your mattress.

Give your mattress some fresh air.

If you can, air out your mattress outside, or even open the windows in your bedroom to get some natural ventilation through your bed. This can help eliminate any odors and freshen up your mattress.

Opt to lower your bedroom temperature and humidity.

By ensuring your bedroom temperature and humidity levels are low, you'll help stop any growth of dust mites in the future. If you are worried about the possibility of dust mites, you might try sprinkling your mattress with some baking soda mixed with your favorite essential oils. Leave the mixture on your mattress and vacuum away to remove any dust and particles.

Seal the deal with a mattress protector.

Once you've taken the steps to freshen up your mattress, ensure it stays as clean as possible for as long as possible. After this process, do well to get the Winco mattress protector to further protect your mattress. Experts say that these pieces are essential for your mattress and can prevent spills and stains, allergens, and bed bugs from reaching your Mattress.

If you take these steps to refresh your mattress, you'll be sleeping cleaner — and happier — in no time. Equally, you can opt for the Winco mattress swap service to get rid of that old mattress in exchange for a new one. The beginning of a new year often brings a wave of refreshing and resetting to gear up for the months ahead. Family / Here’s How To Take Holiday Rest That Will Improve Your Brain And Make You Happy by Y4all: 2:43pm On Dec 23, 2021
The holiday season is here and with it some end-of-the-year days off. It’s a time when most companies give their employees some time out to relax and spend time with family. The aim of the holiday rest is utterly defeated if employees come back from vacation bushed or exhausted than they left. According to statistics, we waste as much as 30 percent of our holidays and only 13 percent of employees feel really rested when they return to work. How can we really utilize and enjoy that long-awaited free time? The question now is. When was the last time you took a vacation and came back fully rested, renewed, and refreshed?

If we agree that rest should produce renewal and better productivity. Therefore, in order to maintain health and balance between personal and professional life. We absolutely need to rest, so we can maintain a sense of contentment and happiness. However, in order to be effective, the holiday itself requires a proper preparation.

If you want to get the absolute best benefit out of your holiday break, Here’s what you really need to do:

Unplug from work.
Research shows that as much as 40 percent of us find it really difficult to forget about work during our holidays. Despite the time spent relaxing, we check business emails, answer calls, and sometimes even return from holidays for an emergency situation. Being too close to our place of employment doesn’t allow for regeneration, so may cause us to keep thinking about work despite being on holiday which can lead to a sense of professional burnout. That is why before the holidays, you should complete all professional matters and don’t start new ones because the awareness of impending work will certainly not let you rest.

Get plenty of sleep.
Sleep is extremely important to our work and our health and most of us don’t get enough of it. Studies show that vacations improve our well-being if we make sure to get all the sleep we need during our time off. Among other things, this means making sure you have a comfortable and relaxing place to sleep where you can be sure of getting all the rest you need. That’s a great reason to get a suitable and comfortable sleep surface that will make your holiday a memorable experience.

Spend time enjoying food.
Food is more than fuel and materials, it’s also love, pleasure, celebration, plus critical information to our body. During the holiday period, endeavor to take a trip. As we travel, we experience different foods with entertainingly different results. Try dining rather than feeding, enjoying food socially as well as physically, emphasizing both new tastes and the people with whom you dine. Meals often become wonderful memories.

Spend time with family, friends, or community.
Another benefit of a vacation is improved relationships with your partner, friends, or family. That’s good because there’s a lot of science that tells us that the more connected we are with loved ones and with the community in our lives, the healthier and happier we are. That’s important every time of year, but doubly so at holiday time. So don’t be solitary during the holidays. If there isn’t an appealing gathering of family or friends to attend, find a community event or volunteer somewhere.

Make your days rhythmic and musical.
Ever wonder why people enjoy music so much? It’s because we are inherently musical. Try to make your vacation days rhythmic. Music helps you to relax and reminisce. During the holiday, ensure that you play music and also engage in other activities that are rhythmic such as dancing, singing, or choreography. By doing this, it helps the body to be refreshed and rejuvenated.

Use active rest techniques.
Rest is not a passive, slow process but quick and active. Using active rest techniques, like following a memorable meal with a pleasant ramble in a park, can aid far more than your waistline. It also allows you to do something truly powerful, giving the right kind of directions to your body’s rest and renewal.

Figure out your desired level of adventure and go for it.
Some people like visiting parks and recreational centers or even camping, while others prefer to be onlookers. Vacations are new experiences. Try to think up experiences you consider imaginative and self-expanding, and try at least one each vacation. Learning new things can be a wonderful kick, and you can learn a great deal on vacations.

Finally, don’t forget that rest is a critical part of a healthy lifestyle. Rest renews, rebuilds, and rewires our brains and bodies, which can make us look better, feel younger, get healthier, plus obtain the peak experiences and memories of a lifetime.

Family / Improve Your Mattress Life While You’re Away For The Festivities by Y4all: 1:58pm On Dec 22, 2021
Mattresses are quite pricey nowadays, so as you prepare to travel for the festivities, it is important that you know how to store your mattress in order to extend its lifespan. It’s important to take the proper steps of storing a mattress so as to preserve the longevity of your mattress.

Furthermore, it may interest you to know that proper storage of a mattress can enhance longevity of the mattress. What this means in essence is that if a mattress is given proper care, the user can enjoy the mattress for extra years beyond its lifespan. This suggests that armed with this information, you may want to keep your mattress in the best conditions especially as you prepare to travel for the festivities until you return back to using the mattress again.

In this guide, we’ll explain the best way to store your mattress to prevent damage and to keep it in great condition.

Decide and Prepare the best place to store your Mattress
Where you store your mattress is very important. This is because mattresses are big items that need to be stored somewhere they won’t be disturbed. Before you move your mattress to the chosen room, you should make sure the surface where the mattress will be resting is clean. If you’re laying the mattress on the floor, you should vacuum the space beforehand and clean up anything that could potentially stain or damage the mattress. Once your surfaces are clean, make sure that it’s thoroughly dry before you move your mattress to storage.

Clean the Mattress
Even if you wash your bedding consistently, your mattress can start to accumulate dust mites, sweat, and dirt over time. Storing a dirty mattress can start to cause bacteria, leading to mold and fungus growth. Thankfully, there is an easy way to get your mattress ready for storage and sterilized to avoid issues after you retrieve it. In just a few steps, you can make your mattress feel as good as new.

This is the best way to clean a mattress:
Remove the mattress from your base and strip the mattress of sheets, blankets, and pillows.
Apply a small amount of baking soda and let it sit for an hour on the exterior of your mattress.
Letting the baking soda sit on your bed will help absorb odor and remove stains from your mattress.
Vacuum up the baking soda using a vacuum extension piece after waiting for an hour.
Air out your mattress for several hours to ensure your bed is completely dry.
Clean your mattress
After you’ve cleaned and aired out your mattress, you are ready for the next step in how to store a mattress.

Cover Your Mattress in Protective Wrap
Once you thoroughly clean the mattress, it’s time to protect it. You can buy a mattress cover for it. Or you can take the do-it-yourself approach and wrap it in plastic—just make sure it’s breathable.

Thick plastic traps moisture, which allows mildew growth. You want to keep your mattress free from dust and moisture, both of which could leave you with unpleasant surprises when you remove it from storage.

Disassemble the Bedframe
If you also need to store the bedframe, you’ll need to take it apart first. Keep any screws or small parts in a bag taped to the bed frame itself. Next, make sure that you cover the bed frame with old blankets. You’ll want to store it this way to keep the dust off of it while it’s stored.

Store Your Mattress Lying Flat
For every type of mattress, it’s best practice to lie it flat on the floor as this keeps all the fillings in place. This is especially important for pocket sprung and natural filling mattresses. When you lean a mattress on its side, the fillings can be disturbed and can move. This can impact the comfort and support it provides when you take it out of storage. If you have the room to store your mattress flat on the ground, be sure to place a tarp or other material underneath it so it’s not directly on the floor. If you don’t have space, use other furniture pieces to create an even surface to lay it across.

Clear Items off Your Mattress
Once you’ve found a flat surface to lay your mattress down in your storage unit, it’s essential to avoid placing any additional items you have in storage on top of your bed. Storing heavy objects on a mattress can eventually damage the inner workings of your mattress. Placing furniture pieces or heavy items on your mattress can cause permanent damage and leave it dented. No one wants to sleep on a warped mattress, so it’s best not to take the risk.

Check the temperature
If it gets too humid in the mattress bag or plastic wrapping the mattress can get damp. This can damage your mattress and make it moldy. To avoid dampness, we suggest storing your mattress in a cool room. If you’re renting a storage unit, make sure the room has climate control to avoid running into these problems. The ideal temperature is between 18°C and 19°C to keep your mattress in perfect condition.

Make sure it’s ventilated
Another way to avoid damp issues with your mattress is to make sure that the room is well ventilated. Mattresses need airflow to stay clean and fresh. If you’re storing your mattress at home, you can open a window or use a fan to maintain airflow. In a storage space, ensure that your unit has air conditioning to prevent the room from getting humid. When storing your mattress for an extended period of time, you should open the seal on the bag or plastic once a week to let the mattress breathe.

How to freshen a mattress that’s been in storage
Once you remove the mattress from storage,
You should leave the mattress for at least 24 hours before you do anything else to it. This allows it to settle back to its normal shape and release any unpleasant smells.
Before you use the mattress, deodorize and clean it just as above. This will remove any dust or debris that the mattress accumulated while in storage.

Conclusion
Mattresses are one of the household items we struggle to set aside due to their size. Therefore, you must be familiar with how to store a mattress correctly to save space and ensure that your mattress will be free of any damage. It is important to store it flat somewhere with stable temperature and humidity. The emphasis is necessary on selecting the best area for storage and how you position your mattress. Errors in these considerations can cause deterioration on your mattress, which can make it unusable later on.

Family / A Quick Guide To Selecting A New Mattress by Y4all: 4:14pm On Dec 17, 2021
The need to sleep is a common feature of all living things including humans but as humans, the quality of that sleep is different from person to person. However, very few of us are aware of the actual importance of a good night’s sleep on our well-being. Physical health, mental health, overall quality of life, and even things like our general safety are all linked to the quality of the sleep we get, and that is linked to the quality of the mattress we sleep on. From adjustability and durability to types, to preferences, to budget and even weight, here are some of the guides one must consider in selecting a mattress for the Yuletide season.

Here’s a quick guide to selecting a new mattress for the Yuletide.

Determine Your Budget
Investing in a good mattress is a worthwhile investment considering the amount of time we spend on our sleep surface and how a mattress helps to reinvigorate our bodies. However, before embarking on the journey to pick a mattress for the Yelutide, it’s important to first consider how much you’re willing to spend on a new mattress. Note, while focusing on your budget, it is important to have a fairly reasonable budget so as to get a quality mattress that will not compromise your comfort and health. For this reason, investing in a mattress that will provide you with a good night’s sleep is always worth it.

Choose a Mattress Size
One question you need to ask yourself is, “What kind of mattress do I need?” If you live in a particularly small space it may be best to opt for a smaller size, such as a twin or full mattress. Although, if you have room to stretch, a queen or king-size mattress may be more suitable for your needs.

Evaluate Mattress Thickness
Contrary to mattress myth, the thickness of a mattress does not define its level of comfort but it does influence how the mattress manufacturers designed it. Mattress thickness plays a large role in the cost, too. Thicker mattresses require more material, they’re automatically more expensive than thinner alternatives. The thickness of each mattress will affect comfort because if the mattress is too thin it can impact your health. Whether or not a mattress is good overall depends on the quality of the material, the different sleeping positions, and the preferences of the individual.

Consider Body Support
Whether you’re small or tall, your mattress should support your whole body. To that end, let’s talk about spine alignment and pressure relief. These are key factors to consider when looking for a mattress that provides support. Spinal alignment is probably the most important aspect when it comes to body support in a mattress. Bad sleeping posture may lead to misalignment, which can cause soreness in the neck, back, and shoulders. When your body aligns properly during sleeping hours, you give your muscular-skeletal system a better chance to rest—whether it’s from hours hunched over a computer screen or spending seasons in the garden. Also, your body will be best supported by a mattress that evenly distributes your body weight so the heavier parts of your body, like your hips and shoulders, don’t sink in too deeply. If they do, your mattress could be causing strain on your pressure points.

Select Your Desired Mattress Firmness
The firmness of a mattress refers to the initial feeling you experience when lying on it. When determining how to pick the right mattress, you must consider your preferred firmness level. There is a common misconception that the firmness of a mattress affects its support, but really, firmness is subjective and does not equate to support. This is because firmness is determined by how far a sleeper sinks into their mattress, while support is measured by how well the mattress maintains a sleeper’s alignment.

Assess Your Sleeping Position
Your preferred sleeping position can play a part in choosing the right mattress. Sleeping on a mattress that doesn’t offer the right support for your usual position can contribute to pain and poor sleep. We might have all been there—tossing and turning without a moment’s shut-eye. But did you know that we still toss and turn even during deep sleep? In fact, people change positions at least 20 times per night. Most sleepers often start off on their sides and transition to their backs throughout the night—or vice versa. As such, it’s important to find a mattress that can provide adequate support for different sleeping patterns and positions.

Review Different Mattress Types
There’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to how to choose a mattress type. Really, it greatly depends on your personal comfort preferences.

Are you in the market for something you can rely on—a firm and sturdy foundation? If yes you can check out any of Winco orthopedic, Winco Divan Winco Grandeur, or even the Winco Dual Side range of mattresses, Or are you more enamored with something plush and pliant, something that really supports your soft spots then think no further because the Winco Merit, Winco Porsche, Winco Elegant and the Winco Supreme will appeal to your taste.

The key to a good night’s sleep is finding the perfect mattress. Family / Usher The Holiday Season With A Cleaner Mattress by Y4all: 12:36pm On Dec 15, 2021
The holiday season is here again, so spend the time amidst all the fun to make your sleep surface cleaner. The “Harmattan signifies the start of the Christmas season and while all the Christmas décors are beautifully in place, it is imperative to know that some of your interior furniture has accumulated lots dust haze from the beginning of the year to this period, hence the need to sanitize your interior decor especially your mattresses during this period.

It is important to keep our mattress clean and hygienic as we spend 1/3 of our time on the bed. Ironically, dust and dust mites are mostly found within the mattress and are one of the dirtiest pieces of furniture in a home, but many people are not aware of the problem because our mattress is always nicely covered by bed linen.

The mattress makes an ideal breeding ground for dust mites because the mattress is warm, humid and collects a high amount of human dead skin flakes that are shed every night when we sleep. Besides dust mites and dust, the mattress also contains our body fluid residue, bacteria, and other microorganisms.

Not a pleasant discovery about your mattress right?
To maintain good bedroom hygiene, your mattress requires regular cleaning to rid those irking particles accumulated in the mattress, but not with shampoo and water. Leading mattress manufacturers in the world do not recommend cleaning your mattress with moisture and chemical as they can damage the mattress comfort and upholstery material.

Health / Men And Women: Who Snore More? by Y4all: 1:28pm On Dec 04, 2021
One in two adults snore. However, there is always an age-long contention about the sex differences when it comes to snoring. The widespread belief about snoring being more common in men than women is still a subject of ongoing research. This review is primed to throw some light on the ongoing debate between men and women.

According to research, medical professionals, and health literature, Studies suggest that twice as many men snore than women, with roughly 40% of men reporting snoring versus 20% of women. With these statistics, Snoring is certainly prevalent in males than in females.

Let’s explore why and how.

Why Men are primed for Snoring
Men’s airways are primed for snoring. The reason more men snore is partly down to their airway anatomy. Studies have found that there are crucial differences in the structure of men’s airways.

More soft tissue
Firstly, Studies indicate that the male soft palate – a key player in generating snoring sounds has a larger cross-sectional area. There’s basically more tissue available to flap around and make noise.

Male upper airway collapses more
Secondly, men’s upper airways are more prone to obstruction. The vulnerable area between the hard palate and epiglottis is larger in men. This means there is a greater amount of unsupported soft tissue that will relax whilst asleep.

Snoring is linked to male hormones
Testosterone is the main male sex hormone. Its primary duty is the maintenance and development of reproductive tissue, but it also plays a part in snoring. Testosterone has been linked to increased airway collapsibility and greater breathing instability, though the exact mechanism is still uncertain

Men gain fat on the neck
Finally, men put weight on the areas that can cause snoring. The chance of your airway collapsing is increased if there is more weight on your neck. Increased neck size and fat around the neck, therefore, puts you at greater risk of snoring. We know that obesity is a great risk factor in snoring, but men and women distribute fat differently which influences snoring patterns. Men put on more weight around their neck and chest, whereas women tend to gain fat on their thighs, hips, and buttocks.

Side note
It is important to note that this has nothing to do with men having deeper voices. Whilst men’s vocal folds are indeed longer, they have more structural support and reside lower than the collapsible area associated with snoring. The area below the roof of your mouth and above the epiglottis is the soft, flappy area we are interested in.

Why Female Snore less
Whilst male sex hormones increase the chance of snoring, female sex hormones have a protective effect.

Steady ventilation
Progesterone, a hormone particularly high during pregnancy, promotes steady ventilation. This causes a less pronounced drop in airflow during sleep and makes the soft airway less prone to collapse.

Less relaxed tongue
Progesterone, alongside another key female hormone, estrogen, enhances the ability of a key muscle in the tongue to contract, reducing the likelihood of it falling back and causing a blockage.

Menopause increases the likelihood of snoring
As female sex hormones decline rapidly at menopause, the likelihood of developing snoring or sleep apnea increases. The incidence of snoring increases with age for both sexes, but in women, the onset of menopause is a watershed moment when it comes to snoring and sleep apnea.

The Bottom line
For men, now that you know that you’re responsible for those obnoxious snoring means that you can try to minimize it. Getting rid of that dad bod is the most effective way to do so. That means you need to get familiar with effective weight loss exercises and probably modify your diet. Studies suggest drinking lots of water as well as quitting smoking, cutting back on alcohol, and using allergen-free bedding can help too. Rolling over in your sleep can also do wonders.

Simple sleep changes have been shown to influence the amount of snoring people display, as well as the volume of the snoring itself. Lying on your back makes the tongue more likely to fall to the back of your throat, so switching to sleeping on your side can significantly reduce the amount you snore. Generally, practicing healthy lifestyle changes can reduce the amount you snore, as carrying excess weight has been shown to increase the risk of snoring in both men and women. Modifying your diet, carrying out a healthy fitness regime, staying hydrated, and cutting back on alcohol and smoking have all been proven to help reduce snoring, helping to give you and your partner a restful night’s sleep.

Lastly, the use of the right mattress can make a lot of differences to your sleep quality, so why not test the Winco range of mattresses and other bedding products today? Click here to find out more.
