Health / All You Need To Know About Sleep Hygiene by Y4all: 11:32am On Dec 03, 2021
Getting good sleep is important in maintaining health. There are several things that you can do to promote your sleep hygiene and ultimately get better sleep. Sleep Hygiene does not only entail your behaviors during the day or your behavior before you go to bed but involves lifestyle habits such as our food and drink choices, schedule, evening routine, and many other activities all play a part in your ability to sleep. However, you can dramatically improve your sleep quality by making a few minor adjustments to your lifestyle and attitude.

What Is Sleep Hygiene?
Sleep hygiene is the term used to describe healthy habits or behaviors you can practice that may help improve your ability to fall asleep and remain asleep through the night. Establishing and practicing good sleep hygiene throughout the day impacts both the quality and quantity of sleep you get each night. It also plays a significant role in your physical and mental health. Smart sleep habits that may improve your sleep hygiene include:

Getting up and going to bed around the same time each day
Creating a healthy sleep environment that includes dim lights and the ideal thermostat temperature
Shutting off all electronics at least 60 minutes before bed
Limiting caffeine intake several hours before bedtime
Getting enough physical activity earlier in the day
Reducing stress levels
Avoiding large meals with high-fat content before bed
Avoid daytime naps because naps decrease the ‘Sleep Debt’ that is so necessary for easy sleep onset.

What Are the Benefits of Good Sleep Hygiene?
When we sleep well, we wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Good sleep habits can positively impact not only our overall health but also our lifestyle. Good sleep hygiene increases our chances of restful sleep, which in turn has the ability to improve our productivity, mental and physical wellbeing, and overall quality of life. Some other benefits include:

Sharper memory
Improved immune system
Enhanced muscle repair
Increased energy levels
The quality of sleep we get each night affects how we look and feel each day, which is why healthy sleep hygiene is so important.

What Is Bad Sleep Hygiene?
Bad sleep hygiene is the practice of bad sleeping habits that inhibit one’s ability to have a good night’s sleep and can lead to a major sleep problem. Inadequate sleep hygiene is considered a sleep disorder that can be harmful to your quality of life.

Below are some examples of bad sleep hygiene

Frequent naps during the day and into the night.
Exposure to inadequate lighting right before bed.
Going to bed and waking up at inconsistent times.
There are many signs of poor sleep hygiene. Among the most common are problems falling and staying asleep, low energy levels, lack of motivation, trouble concentrating, and headaches.

The bottom line
Sleep hygiene is about having healthy sleep habits. Your behaviors, both during the day and around bedtime, can affect the quality of your sleep. If you have a hard time falling or staying asleep, you can try several strategies to fall asleep faster — and stay sleeping for hours at a time. Most of these involve improving your sleep hygiene. Sticking to a schedule, having a relaxing bedtime routine, exercising regularly, keeping your bedroom dark and at a comfortable temperature, and watching what you eat and drink can all impact the quality of your sleep. If you continue to have issues with your sleep patterns or insomnia, be sure to follow up with your doctor. They can determine whether an underlying condition is causing your sleep problems and can provide the treatment you may need.

Health / How Can A Mattress Affect Your Sleep And Health by Y4all: 4:12pm On Nov 29, 2021
Once it’s nightfall, Nigerians just want to lay on any surface provided they are able to snooze away but they often are quick to forget that their sleep surface has a profound effect on their sleep quality and health. Numerous researchers have alluded to the fact that sound sleep has the potential to optimize and regenerate the power of our bodies. For this reason alone, you must invest in a good mattress sooner than later.

A bad slumber surface can affect our bodies by diminishing our productivity levels. That is why a comfy mattress is vital for our well-being.

Here are the five surprising ways your mattress affects your sleep and health.

The right Mattress alleviates Stress and Anxiety
The right mattress improves your sleep quality and surprisingly, you feel surrounded by positive energy. Snoozing on an old and uncomfortable mattress can lead to stress buildup. If you continue to get inadequate sleep, it can have serious repercussions. You may experience elevated anxiety or tension, and confusion may set in. Long-term stress and sleep disturbances may lead to depression or other psychological problems. You can avoid all this easily by choosing a mattress that is the most suitable for your sleep needs. A comfy mattress provides restful sleep that decreases stress. It uplifts your mood and promotes calmness and peace of mind.

The right Mattress Relieves Aches and pains
Lying down is often the relief at the end of the day, especially if you have chronic pain. But lying for a period of time means that gravity can push your body in strange ways and create pressure points. This makes you feel sore and can often wake you up with the pain, causing you to move. However, a good mattress offers the support you need to help achieve a good sleep posture and ease the pressure on those pressure points. It helps to distribute weight evenly and can help to ease those minor pains during the day.

Worn-Out Mattress Increases Allergy Risk
An old mattress in your bedroom highly contributes to allergies. Imagine hundreds of dust mites lodged inside the foams, eating off your dead skin cells, body oil, and dust particles. They are heaven for dust mites, aren’t they? And, do you know dust mites are the primary cause of asthma and many skin allergies? A few of the common symptoms of dust mites allergies are pimples, dry skin, nasal congestion, and runny nose. Allergies are a real threat for people with sensitive skin or at asthma risk. Old people, kids, or anyone with a weak immunological system is at greater risk and must ensure allergen-free fresh mattresses. Getting a new, germ-resistant eco-friendly mattress is the best way to avoid allergies. Clean it often, and use mattress protectors to block the dust.

The Right Mattress Improves Life Quality
A quality mattress offers much more than improving your snooze — it transforms your life. A night of quality sleep can no doubt perform wonders for you! It improves your memory, performance, and productivity, and thus elevates your life quality. For instance, snoring is a leading cause of many household brawls, and sometimes marriages are at stake. Snoring can be due to umpteen reasons, including a serious health issue, sleep apnea. It disrupts the sleep quality for both you and your partner. However, you can reduce or prevent snoring altogether by buying a good supportive mattress. Sleep deprivation affects every facet of our life. It messes up our circadian rhythm. It weakens our metabolism, often leading to weight gain and obesity. Buying the right mattress can turn our whole life around when you are sleeping properly, the chances of binge eating and weight gain decrease. Mood improves, and you wake up for the day with zeal and enthusiasm.

It’s terrible that an old mattress can become the biggest obstacle between you and a night of quality sleep. But even more surprising is the profound effect of sound sleep on our health. One may expect that a quality mattress is vital for a good sleep, but it does much more than just that! It decreases our stress and anxiety levels, benefits our mind and body, and improves our overall life quality.

Your mattress can contribute to night sweats
Some people do wake up in a pool of sweat during the night. There are lots of reasons you may sweat, including medication or health issues like anxiety or menopause. But sometimes you sweat in the night even if you don’t have any such health issues, and this could be because your mattress does not allow you to cool down. Soft mattresses are good and comfortable, but your body loses exposure to air resulting in sweating, firm mattresses are known to expose more of your body to air and hence keep you cool and less prone to sweating. Replacing your mattress with a good quality mattress should be able to help your body to cool down and you can sleep better through the night.

In conclusion, sleeping on the right mattress will make a significant difference between poor and good quality sleep. An old mattress can be a big hindrance to achieving good quality sleep. A right mattress also helps to decrease stress and anxiety levels which will, in turn, lead to a comfortable, healthy, and productive life. It’s high time that you invest in your health and sleep by buying a good mattress now! Winco Foam Industries is proud to offer you various mattresses to suit your budget and give you the value and comfort you deserve for healthy living.

About a month...Uniform. Mouka was too expensive. Just prepare to buy the topper already.....it is dreadfully too hard for me. However, two people will soften it quick enough though. All the mattresses are recommended based on users' weight.

Lol grin

Are you sure that thing is called a mattress cover? That's not the name I recall from the thread where those two users also talked about the semi-orthopedic.

A photo of the thing was even posted and it looked like a padded blanket of some sort. If you go and ask for mattress cover now, what these traders will give you, may be very different from what I saw here.

LOL grin grin
You are quite right about not being so sure of the name
What you intend to call is referred to as a Mattress Topper.
Thanks for your comment.

I got my orthopedic because of back pain and it was extremely helpful in alleviating my back pain.

But now, it tends to feel as hard as ply wood, causing poor sleep. Your semi-orthopedic is supposed to be softer than full orthopedic nah.

About two people on this forum said the semi-orthopedic sags after a while, like a regular mattress.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your comments.

Sir, ideally, the purchase of an orthopedic mattress is ought to be accompanied by a Doctor's prescription after careful diagnosis of the severity of your back pain.

However, For us at Winco Foam industries, our advice to you is to get a mattress topper to help make your mattress softer. Bearing in mind that you could remove the mattress topper anytime you feel you need the sturdiness of the orthopedic mattress.

You can place an order for a Mattress Topper by reaching out to any of our sleep experts on 09062010211.
Thanks.

You are in the spirit o....I'm getting one tomorrow. It's still called mattress cover. Check it out on Jumia with that headline.

So I changed my mattress a few weeks back cos the other one was getting too soft and hurting my back. The seller advised that even though it was mouka form and still looks good, the weight wasnt designed to carry the weight it presently carries. So I kukuma bought semi orthopedic o....chai...my back and asssss have heared it. It is like sleeping on a bare floor. My friend encouraged that I use it for a while to loosen it but chai....cant deal anymore grin

Dear Sir,
So Sorry about your experience. Ideally, your weight is supposed to be a determining factor in purchasing a mattress but sadly most people don't or manufacturers would arbitrarily just sell mattresses to people without taking cognizance of this reality.

For us at Winco Foam Industries, we recognize this fact and we are poised more than ever to give you that sleep experience that you crave.
Moving forward, A mattress topper will be an ideal option for you at this point. Basically, Mattress toppers are built to make your mattress firmer or softer depending on what suits you.

Nice to hear from you. What you are attempting to describe basically is a Mattress Topper. It is built to make your Mattress feel softer or harder depending on your need. It's available on any of Winco Foam's depots or distributor's outlets nationwide. Better still, you can place an order by putting a call any of our customer experience officers on 09062010211. Dear Sir, Thanks for your observation. What you have observed can be referred to as Mattress Sagging and this implies a defect in the mattress and also raises question about its originality. Ideally, a good and original mattress should not sag especially within the duration of its lifespan.

In recent times, With the astronomical rise in the prices of raw materials due to inflation, and general economic downturn, the cost of raw materials has risen astronomically and this has affected the prices of goods and services. The prices of mattress and bedding products like the prices of other goods have also been on the rise. This has equally led to a new wave of counterfeiting or the increase in the incidence of purchasing fake mattresses from the market. Counterfeit goods have gone mainstream and the Mattress manufacturing industry is not spared in this menace.

How to Spot a Fake Mattress
Spotting a fake mattress is not an easy task largely because most mattress scammer does everything possible to a fake mattress to look as original as possible. However, the issue of value and quality arises here because only registered and certified mattress manufacturers will go the extra mile of providing value and quality to their customers. In this article, we shall highlight some of the ways to spot a fake mattress as well as give you general tips on How to Avoid the Common Mattress Industry Scams.

The Brand Tag
One thing a buyer must take note of is the tags on the mattress. Usually, most genuine mattresses have their tags sewn into the seams. As a buyer, it is important to take a lucid look at the tags on the mattress. They should be sewn into the seams, stating not to remove the tag, and the mattress constituent will be clearly stated. This tag may also indicate brand information, the tag also features a lot of important information including the materials used to make your mattress, where and the date it was manufactured, and warranty information, and more. However, scammers can make these tags but sometimes scammers won’t think to be so thorough and do a bad job with the tag.

The Thickness of the Mattress
One of the ways to spot a fake mattress is to measure the thickness of the mattress. Original Mattresses especially from renowned manufacturers do not compromise on standards especially in constructing a durable mattress. A durable mattress that stays comfortable for years should be at least 8 inches thick, including the minimum requirement of a 2 to 3-inch thick comfort layer and a 5 to the 6-inch thick base layer. Usually, the thicker a mattress, the softer it feels. Mattresses need to encompass many materials to add comfort and support to their construction. To spot a fake mattress, it is important to measure the thickness of the mattress. Anything under eight and it might be a scam. In fact, many experts feel that even 8 inches are inadequate.

Weight of the Mattress
To spot a fake Mattress, it is important to examine the weight of the mattress. The average mattress weighs between 20 to 60 kilograms, depending on size, materials, and foam density. That is to say that, the Mattress type, thickness, and size are significant factors that determine mattress weight. Interestingly, if your mattress is obscenely light, it may not be the material it claims to be. If you want to get fancier with it, find out your mattress size in cubic feet. Several manufacturers state that memory foam specifically should weigh at least three pounds for each cubic foot. If it weighs less then it may be a signal that it’s fake.

How to Avoid the Common Mattress Industry Scams
Some of the ways of avoiding being caught on the web include:

Don’t Get Caught Up In the Hype
Unfortunately, a lot of the mattress industry is driven by hype. Manufacturers always come up with new mattresses featuring the latest in sleep technology. Some of these new products and sleep innovations are often overhyped and do not really offer as much as the manufacturer has said. Therefore, it is important that buyers are very specific about what they want to buy considering their personal factors and preferences. The need to be very decisive suffice here. So before buying, spend some time to conduct personal research on what is best for you to enable you to clearly understand the comfort of the mattress option you are considering and not be unduly swayed by the hype.

Buy from a Trusted Brand
Purchasing a mattress directly from a trusted brand and from the brand’s approved outlet is all there is to avoid some of the scams that are prevalent in the open market. Most buyers fall victim to this scam when they want to follow cheap and easy ways of getting a mattress. It’s important that buyers don’t buy from door-to-door salesmen And note if the price seems too good to be true, it is too good to be true. It is equally important to inspect your mattress if you think you’ve been scammed. However, to be double sure of the purchase, the buyer can to do visit the site of the manufacturing company for further verification.

Make Sure a Mattress’ Warranty Really Stands For Something
In order not to fall into a possible scam, it is equally important that a buyer reads the mattress warranty. It is important to note that due to the quest to make more sales, most mattress warranties are practically impossible to fulfill. Most scam manufacturers are tempted to give a super lengthy warranty period to attract customers when they know that such a mattress has a shorter lifespan than even the stated warranty period lengthy. It is outrageous and super fraudulent to give a warranty period length of 20+ years when the product lifespan is between 7-10 years. Therefore buyers should ensure to read in between the lines to spot where insincerity creeps in.

Get a Valid Mattress Trial Period
Offering at-home sleep trials has become the norm for most mattress companies. These trials are designed to help shoppers feel more confident about making such a large purchase without getting to try the product first. This policy is intended to replace the experience of laying on the mattress in a store. Most scammers who are not duly certified by relevant authorities would not want to go through the rigor of mattress trial periods since their products do not pass the basic durability, viability, and functionality tests.

Final Thoughts
Mattress scams can happen to anyone and fake mattresses are everywhere. Therefore, it is important to arm yourself with knowledge and useful information so you aren’t overwhelmed and fall into the hands of scammers.

Health / 7 Tips To Make Your Bedroom A Haven Of Tranquility by Y4all: 3:43pm On Nov 24, 2021
Your bedroom setting is critical to getting quality sleep. A sleep-friendly bedroom environment is that which is conducive and enables us to relax, revive and refresh. Ideally, your bedroom should be the sanctuary of your home, a haven of tranquility and calmness, a place where you can retreat after long and stressful days to unwind and recharge. Funny enough, the bedroom of most individuals and families feels just like any other room in the house. Therefore, the question that comes to mind is, Is your bedroom set up to be a relaxing and sleep-inducing environment? Or does your bedroom feel just like any other room in the house?

The problem may be that most people never paused to consider your bedroom environment before. That is, they do not take into account their bedroom environment — how it looks, feels, what is kept in it, even how it smells — It should be noted that a welcoming and sleep-friendly bedroom environment gives a better sense of homeliness and also have a bigger impact on your sleep and general health in many other ways than you can’t imagine.

There are a few simple things you can do to make your bedroom a place of refuge, relaxation, and a haven of tranquility. Just follow these tips, and we bet you’ll start seeing an improvement in your sleep quality immediately.

Get a Comfy Mattress and Beddings
Your bed is, of course, a centerpiece of the bedroom environment. Nothing disrupts a good night’s sleep like a painful mattress. Your mattress should be well-built and comfortable, meaning that it meets your personal firmness preference. A new mattress can be a significant investment, but research has found that it can improve sleep and decrease stress and back pain. Not surprisingly, the National Sleep Foundation found in its 2010 Bedroom Poll that 93% of people said a comfortable mattress was important to getting quality sleep.

In addition to your mattress, your pillows, sheets, and blankets play an important role in making your bed comfortable and inviting. Pillows can prevent neck pain by keeping your head and spine properly aligned, and your bedding can create a soft and cozy feel while helping to manage your body temperature.

Lower the Bedroom Temperature
Your bedroom temperature should be comfortable, usually somewhere between 60 to 71 degrees Fahrenheit (15.6 to 22.0 degrees Celsius). Excess heat can disrupt sleep, so most experts suggest erring on the side of a cooler bedroom. A mild drop in body temperature can help induce sleep.

Use Aromatherapy
Part of a nice sleep environment involves utilizing relaxing scents. Having the right scents in your bedroom can be a plus for your sleep. While odors don’t usually cause people to wake up from sleep. A nice scent can help cultivate a calming environment for getting quality rest. Studies have found that aromatherapy with essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, and vanilla can promote relaxation and help keep you calm and lull you off to sleep.

Turn Off Lights and Electronics
Light is the most powerful cue for your circadian rhythm, part of your biological clock that helps regulate sleep. When it’s time for bed, you want to try to make your bedroom as dark as possible to reinforce a healthy circadian rhythm. Blackout curtains can help if your room receives lots of exterior light. Lighting, including a bedside lamp if you use one, shouldn’t be too bright. Lighting with a low color temperature and luminance can make it easier to feel drowsy and doze off. Another important part of controlling your light exposure is to minimize or eliminate the use of electronic devices, including tablets and cell phones, in your bedroom.

Paint Your Walls
The color of your room can play a role in your overall mood. Colors such as blue, purple, and light pink can help calm your emotions and create a haven of tranquility in your room, so make sure your walls are the right shade to help get you into bed with a relaxed disposition

Get Rid Of Dust Bunnies
Maybe you keep your room neat, but if you aren’t cleaning all the nooks and crannies or washing your bedding frequently, you likely have some dust mites lying around, which can cause symptoms of allergies. You’ll be sure to rest easier if you’re not sniffling and coughing all night, so be sure to vacuum frequently and clean under the bed so you don’t have any unnecessary respiratory issues. Regularly washing your bedding keeps your bed feeling fresh and reduces the potential buildup of dust and allergens.

Keep your bedroom space tidy
Adopt a habit to clean up your space before you climb into bed. Not only will this mean you won’t be waking up to piles of mess, but it could result in a better night’s sleep too. ‘A messy, cluttered bedroom can affect you more than you might think, especially when it comes to bedtime,’ Lisa Artis from the Sleep Council tells us. ‘Get rid of paperwork and piles of laundry – while you do sleep with your eyes closed, it is the last thing you look at before you catch some slumber which may influence any anxious or worrying thoughts. ‘Recent studies have even shown that sleeping in a cleanroom can mean you will also sleep better. Findings by the National Sleep Foundation found that those who made their beds each morning were 19 percent more likely to report getting a good night’s sleep on most days.

Wrap Up
Creating a bedroom environment that is conducive for falling asleep and staying asleep is a key part of sleep hygiene, which can enable quality rest night after night. Cultivating a relaxing ambiance for sleep involves controlling factors such as lighting, sound, smell, and the use of the right mattresses and beddings. Considering these elements of your sleep setting can help you cultivate your ideal bedroom for optimal sleep.

Health / 5 Ways To Help Your Toddler Get A Good Night’s Sleep by Y4all: 12:01pm On Nov 23, 2021
Sleep constitutes an important component of a toddlers’ mental, physical, and emotional health. But if your toddler is not hitting the hay or is having trouble sleeping, just know that you are not alone. The American Academy of Pediatrics estimates that sleep problems affect 25 to 50 percent of children and 40 percent of adolescents. Sleep plays a crucial role in the development of young minds. In addition to having a direct effect on happiness, alertness, attention, cognitive performance, mood, resiliency, vocabulary acquisition, and learning and memory. Sleep also has important effects on growth, especially in early infancy. In toddlers, napping appears to be necessary for memory consolidation, executive attention, and motor skill development. The importance of sleep to the life of a child cannot be overemphasized.

Sleep Problems for toddlers

Young toddlers have a sleep schedule supplemented by two naps a day. Toddler sleep problems are compounded by separation anxiety and a fear of missing out, which translates to stalling techniques and stubbornness at bedtime. However, you can cut down on these complaints by giving them control over minor choices like which pajamas to wear or which book to read. Try to be patient, firm, yet loving because power struggles are likely to elicit a stronger response from them.

Ways to help your toddler get a good night’s sleep: Tips

Set up a bedtime routine for Toddlers

Turn off overhead lights and use dim table lamps starting 30-60 minutes before bedtime to minimize light exposure. Establish calm and enjoyable activities in the 30 minutes right before bedtime, such as taking a bath. Also, the choice of a security object (stuffed animal or blanket) helps your child feel more relaxed at bedtime and all through the night.

Keep regular sleep and wake times

Keep your toddler’s bedtimes and wake-up times within 1-2 hours of each other each day. This helps to keep your toddler’s body clock in a regular pattern. It’s a good idea for weekends and holidays, as well as school days.

Check noise and light in your toddler’s bedroom

Check whether your toddler’s bedroom is too light or noisy for sleep. Blue light from televisions, computer screens, phones, and tablets suppresses melatonin levels and delays sleepiness. Bright light in the hour before bedtime can have the same effect on toddlers too.

Give Toddlers the right amount at the right time

Make sure your toddler has a satisfying evening meal at a reasonable time. Feeling hungry or too full before bed can make your toddler more alert or uncomfortable. This can make it harder for your toddler to get to sleep. In the morning, a healthy breakfast helps to kick-start your toddler’s body clock at the right time.

Make sure your toddler gets the right sleep surface

Parents should ensure that their toddlers get a befitting sleep surface. Selecting the right mattress can help your toddler sleep comfortably throughout the night. Family / 5 Ways To Extend The Lifespan Of Your Mattress by Y4all: 3:31pm On Nov 22, 2021
Congratulations on your purchase of a new mattress. Shopping for a new mattress can often be a herculean task, especially for those who are looking for a perfect blend of comfort and value. After spending time and money on your brand new mattress, it’s only natural for you to do everything possible to ensure that you extend the lifespan of your mattress as much as possible.

Generally, most mattresses have a lifespan of five to seven years. Truth is, there’s no single way to tell for how long every mattress will actually last. Plenty of factors play into that fluctuating number of years, including the type of mattress, the quality of its materials, and how well you take care of it. However, the way and manner you take care of your mattress is one factor you can control and this always helps to extend the lifespan of the mattress. More so, with proper care and maintenance, your new mattress may be able to serve you well for up to ten years.

Check out our top tips for giving your new mattress a long and healthy life.

Use a mattress pad or cover
Dirt, dust, hair, moisture, bacteria, and other debris make your mattress dirty, less sanitary, and deteriorate its fibers and overall structure. While you can’t avoid bringing these particles into your bed entirely, you can provide an extra layer of protection for your mattress. With a mattress cover or pad to take the brunt of the damage, your mattress will maintain its quality for much longer.

Use Strong Bed Base
The base of your bed plays a surprising role in the lifespan of your mattress. If it does not adequately support the mattress, for example with too few support slats or not enough center support, it can cause the mattress to sag or bow. It is essential to make sure your mattress does have the right kind of support. This helps preserve the integrity of materials and prevent early wear. A good quality bed base distributes the weight of the mattress evenly throughout. Therefore, if you want your mattress to last longer, check if it’s time for a new bed base. For the best support, it is recommended that buyers can opt for the Winco divan mattress that is a combination of a mattress and a bed frame.

Rotate Your Mattress Every Three Months
Although some mattress manufacturers claim that you do not need to rotate it to extend your mattress lifespan, you can definitely add years to your mattress if you do so regularly. As the weight of your body puts pressure on the internal structure of your mattress, these structures can become permanently deformed if you do not give them a chance to restore themselves.

Deodorize your Mattress
The average person sweats out about half a pint of perspiration every night, not to mention shedding skin cells. To keep your mattress fresh, deodorizing it is essential. Firstly, you should use your vacuum (with a clean upholstery attachment) to remove dust, dead skin cells, and any other debris. Next, sift baking soda over your mattress. This absorbs odors and has the benefit of being completely natural if you want to scent your mattress, add five drops of essential oils to the soda before you sprinkle it on. Leave this for 30 minutes and then vacuum it off to remove any lingering smells. This should be done once a season, so every three months.

Always use Clean Sheets on your Mattress
Sheets can be a breeding ground for dust mites which can burrow into your mattress and exasperate any breathing issues or allergies. Therefore, washing them once a week on high heat is essential, as cleaning them regularly reduces the risk of this happening. However, make sure that all sheets are 100% dry before placing them back on the bed as dampness increases the risk of bacteria or mold occurring.

For us at Winco Foam Industries, we hope you’ve found some tips to extend the lifespan of your mattress. For more on our wide range of mattresses, visit us on www.wincofoam.com or interact with our sleep experts on 09062010211.

Family / Say No To That Reoccurring Neck Pain by Y4all: 1:19pm On Nov 20, 2021
Reoccurring Neck pain plagues a significant portion of Nigerians on a daily basis, and the causes aren’t always entirely unfathomable. If you find yourself waking up with a sore neck, chances are that your pillow could be the culprit. Your pillow’s job is to hold your neck and head at the right height to prevent unnecessary strain. Reoccurring Neck pain from an inadequate pillow can be caused by strained muscles and a lack of neck support.

More so, you could suffer tension headaches from a bad pillow along with neck pain, sleep loss, and irritability. A pillow that’s too high or too low can cause pressure to build up as the neck tries to compensate for the lack of support. Waking up with a sore neck is perhaps the worst way to start up your day. It can quickly cause a mood swing, cause difficulty in accomplishing daily tasks, and affect your productivity.

Apart from one sleeping position being a cause of neck sores, the type of pillow a person uses should also be of fundamental concern. However, the good news is most of these can be corrected if you know what to do. The solution lies in a pillow that helps the spine align properly, allows the airways to open, and supports the head comfortably.

The role of your Pillow

Your head and neck spend many hours every night on your pillow, which is why choosing the right one is key to a healthy, pain-free neck. A pillow that doesn’t support your head and neck properly can create tension in your neck muscles, and cause neck pain.

Other causes of neck pain when you wake up

There are certainly other causes that can also contribute to you waking up with neck pain. In some cases, you may develop a sore neck during the day, too. Some common causes of neck pain include:

Poor posture during the day
Working too long at a computer, or watching television for too long without changing positions
Osteoarthritis is one of the upper spinal joints
Nerve compression caused by a herniated disk or bone spur in your neck

Home remedies for neck pain
Here are some self-care options you can try:
Apply ice or a cold pack to the sore part of your neck for 20 minutes at a time. This can help reduce inflammation in your neck muscles.
If you’ve had pain for a day or more, apply a heat pack to the sore area for 20 minutes at a time. This can help to soothe and relax the muscles.

Health / Say No To That Reoccurring Neck Pain by Y4all: 12:59pm On Nov 20, 2021

Try over-the-counter painkillers, such as ibuprofen (Advil), naproxen (Aleve), or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
Do some gentle exercises, like walking or yoga. This can help keep the blood flowing to your neck. Don’t stop moving altogether. Not moving can cause your muscles to tighten up.

Family / One Common Sleep Problem Young Adults Should Be Aware Of by Y4all: 1:14pm On Nov 19, 2021
Consistently getting a good night’s sleep is correlated with better overall health and a higher quality of life.  However, it can be exhausting trying to balance your work schedule, family, and social life, especially as a young adult. At a certain age, young adults gradually transition from the sleep habits and lifestyles of a teenager to one that is quite demanding and challenging. These new realities have led to most of them having a new set of bedtime-related woes. Relationships, families, and work maybe some of the most important and fulfilling aspects of our lives, but they can also be some of our greatest impediments to a good night’s sleep. So just how much sleep do you need as a young adult, and what can you do if you’re not getting enough of it?. In view of the above, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a common sleep problem among young adults has a frequency rate of is 10%, and may even occur in young adults without comorbidities.

Sleep Requirements for Adults

The National Sleep Foundation recently overhauled its recommendations for the amount of sleep needed based on age. The sleep recommendation for people ages 25 to 64 is seven to nine hours per night. In some cases, as few as six or as many as 10 hours may be appropriate, but the National Sleep Foundation doesn’t recommend less than six. Sleep requirements, of course, vary greatly by individual.

One of the common sleep problems that are experienced by young adults albeit that have equally become prevalent due to the exigencies and vagaries of tight work schedules and other commitments are the Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)

Restless Legs Syndrome

Restless legs syndrome (RLS), also called Willis-Ekbom disease is a sleep disorder that can that cause an intense, often irresistible urge to move your legs (and even your arms or body). It occurs along with other sensations in your limbs described as pulling, creeping, tugging, throbbing, itching, aching, burning, or crawling. These sensations are becoming more prevalent among young adults and usually occur when lying down in bed or when sitting for long periods of time. RLS typically occurs in the evening, making it difficult to fall asleep.

Oftentimes, people with RLS want to walk around and shake their legs (or arms) to help relieve the uncomfortable sensations. RLS is one of several disorders that can cause exhaustion and daytime sleepiness, which can strongly affect mood, concentration, job performance, and personal relationships.  Young adults with RLS report they are often unable to concentrate, have impaired memory, or fail to accomplish daily tasks.  Untreated moderate to severe RLS can lead to about a 20 percent decrease in work productivity and can contribute to depression and anxiety.

Possible Causes of RLS
End-stage renal disease and hemodialysis
Iron deficiency
Certain medications that may aggravate RLS symptoms, such as anti-nausea drugs (e.g. metoclopramide), antipsychotic drugs (e.g., haloperidol or phenothiazine derivatives), antidepressants that increase serotonin (e.g., fluoxetine or sertraline), and some cold and allergy medications that contain older antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine)
Use of alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine
Pregnancy, especially in the last trimester; in most cases, symptoms usually disappear within 4 weeks after delivery
Neuropathy (nerve damage).

Possible Solutions to RLS

Lifestyle changes: Avoiding or decreasing the use of alcohol and tobacco, changing or maintaining a regular sleep pattern, a program of moderate exercise, and massaging the legs, taking a warm bath, or using a heating pad or ice pack.

Use of Iron Supplements:  For individuals with low or low-normal blood tests called ferritin and transferrin saturation, a trial of iron supplements is recommended as the first treatment.  Iron supplements are available over-the-counter.

Use of Anti-seizure drugs: Anti-seizure drugs are becoming the first-line prescription drugs for those with RLS.

Dopaminergic agents: These drugs increase the dopamine effect are largely used to treat Parkinson's disease.  They have been shown to reduce symptoms of RLS when they are taken at nighttime.

Use of Benzodiazepines: These drugs can help individuals obtain more restful sleep.  However, even if taken only at bedtime they can sometimes cause daytime sleepiness, reduce energy, and affect concentration.

Lastly, for those suffering from Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) which is a common sleep problem among young adults. it is paramount that talk to your physician about your options. For others, meditation can make a world of difference in resolving sleep problems, while some others may need sleep medication to get adequate rest.

Health / How To Sleep With A Cold by Y4all: 4:38pm On Nov 12, 2021
Sleeping can be very challenging when you have a cold. Congestion and a stuffy nose can make falling and staying asleep difficult. Symptoms like a stuffy nose can make it difficult to breathe while coughing and muscle pain can keep you awake. However, for you to recover from the illness, you are required to get a night of restful sleep because your body needs rest to get better. Fortunately, there are ways to temporarily ease your symptoms and get the rest you need. Read on to learn more about how to sleep with a cold.

Stay Hydrated when you have a Cold

Water makes up about 60% of the human body, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that hydration has a significant impact on overall health and your ability to combat illnesses. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help ease symptoms of nasal congestion. Remember to stop drinking liquids about one hour before your bedtime to prevent nighttime bathroom visits that interfere with sleep.

Stack your pillows

Lying down can make mucus build up in your throat, leading to coughing and restless nights. This doesn’t mean you need to sleep sitting up, though. Simply stack your pillows to lift your head slightly. This can help minimize mucus accumulation in your throat. Avoid using too many pillows, as this could lead to neck pain and discomfort. Just two standard pillows will likely help elevate your head enough.

Breathe in Steam

This is the most effective way to ease nasal congestion and runny nose. Bring water to boil in a wide pan till steam begins to form. Gently inhale the steam, this will help relieve symptoms of a stuffy nose so you can breathe more comfortably. Be sure not to let the air get too damp, and stop using the humidifier if you notice it aggravates symptoms of allergies or asthma.

Avoid alcohol when you have a cold

Against popular myth, Alcohol is very ineffective at killing cold and flu viruses, it can actually have detrimental effects that may worsen the symptoms of the common cold or flu. Alcohol dehydrates the body, slowing down other bodily reactions and weakening the immune system. Additionally, alcohol may conflict with other medications, giving rise to serious complications. Plus, alcohol is a diuretic. It suppresses the antidiuretic hormone, which stops your kidneys from overproducing urine. When this happens, you will likely pee more often. This can lead to dehydration, making it hard for your body to recover. Stay well hydrated by avoiding alcohol and drinking plenty of water instead.

Drink Warm Tea with Honey

Many people find it soothing to drink herbal tea before bed, and certain caffeine-free options such as chamomile6 may help improve sleep quality. Adding honey may help reduce the urge to cough7, without the side effects of cough medicine.

Keep your bedroom cool

According to a 2012 study Trusted Source, the temperature of your bedroom is one of the most important factors that can affect your quality of sleep. This may be even more important when you’re fighting a cold and have a fever. To create a comfortable sleeping environment, keep your bedroom between 60 and 67°F (15.6 and 19.4°C). To keep your room at this temperature, you can:
Open windows if the temperature rises, or turn on air conditioning.
Run a fan near an open window to keep the air circulating.

Use Cough Medicine

When home remedies fail to provide relief, many people turn to medication such as cough suppressants to reduce coughing, or expectorants to help cough more productively. Cough medication can be a suitable option if it helps you sleep more soundly, but even over-the-counter medications should be used with caution and should not be given to young children.

The bottom line

Most cold symptoms last around 7 to 10 days. In some cases, you might have a hard time getting good quality sleep due to congestion, coughing, or a runny nose. Fortunately, there are ways to help relieve your symptoms. Sometimes, Symptoms usually go away on their own and do not require a trip to the doctor. Depending on your symptoms, some tips might work better than others. If your cold gets worse or persists for more than 3 weeks, be sure to follow up with a healthcare provider.

Cleaning of the house requires that everywhere is kept tidy. From the kitchen to the toilets to the balcony and even the living rooms. But there is one item in the house that is often ignored and neglected- the Mattress. In most cases, it isn't just enough to wash the bedsheets and the blankets. Sanitizing your mattress to make them get rid of liquids, stains, and dust accumulation is a way to improve the general hygiene of your home.
