1. Write a love letter If you’re the type of person who participated in Friendship Books and Slam Books with your 80 pen pals, this is the perfect opportunity to bust out your glittery gel pens and send an actual letter. No doubt about it, this will be the best mail your significant other gets. Just don’t get too graphic, since you never know how it might be circulated, or which roommate might stumble upon it and get the wrong idea about your character. 2. Have yourself a Skype dinner When you can’t go out, might as well order in. Choose a similar cuisine together (so, uh, likely Chinese food), and go crazy by having it delivered. During the mandatory 45-minute wait, open Skype and start your romantic evening. The best part is, you can keep the argument about where you’re going to eat in tact, like any non-LDR couple, but you don’t have to make a reservation, or feel awkward by realizing that you’ve been totally eavesdropping on lovers’ quarrels happening at the table next to you. 3. Send flowers Listen — if you send nothing, it’s going to make the recipient feel more alone. You might get a text with a bunch of sad emoticons near the end of the night if you blow it off all together, and possibly a few “they might be drunk?” texts asking about the status of the relationship. I firmly believe that both men and women enjoy a fresh bunch of flowers, but if your significant other thinks this might be tacky/is allergic, there’s plenty of other stuff you can send. Like candy. An envelope filled with candy. 4. Make a CD of songs that remind you of him or her Not necessarily songs that you think your SO will like. You can keep pushing Mumford And Sons, but after 90 reminders about how amazing they are, you need to come to terms with the fact that he’ll discover them himself when he’s ready. Have him (or her) do the same for you, and make sure they’re sent by the time Valentine’s Day rolls around. Play them the night of. Not only is this mega-romantic and totally something that might happen in a rom-com, but you’ll always have the disc around whenever you start to miss them. Being old school is so adorable. 5. Think about the future Already married? About ready to get married? Unless you’ve been dating this guy or girl for less than 6 months, it might make you feel pretty good to think a little about the future. You know — when you won’t have to spend Valentine’s Day alone anymore. If you’re waiting for a financial boost, or for a return home from the Army or the Navy or school or what have you, start scouting out some good options for your new apartment together once you’re back in the same state. Or, just think about what the holiday will be like once you reunite with your one and only. It’s similar to how everyone “dreams of their wedding” — it’ll probably happen someday, so it’s totally fine to snoop around and daydream beforehand. 6. Buy your loved one something that you’ll use together So, you know you’ll be seeing your SO this May. And you know that he or she really wants to see The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Your inbox has been filled with brand new trailers and trivia about this potential blockbuster for months. Think about buying a gift certificate to the movie theater, good for two adults. Maybe put some extra cash in there for popcorn and a soda. Once you’ve purchased your gift certificate, now totaling 75 dollars, make sure they know the specific plans behind it. These types of gifts are cool, since it definitely proves that you’re invested in the long term, and seriously can’t wait to see them again. 7. Celebrate with your single friends Or, the couples who don’t give a crap about Valentine’s Day. Or better yet, your friends who know the pain of being in a LDR. Just make sure that you don’t head to any type of place that’ll make you feel like bait in a sea of sleazes. While you know that you won’t cheat (or even flirt to an extreme) with another lonely heart, getting any kind of attention on Valentine’s Day might make you feel a little bit sadder. “Why am I in a long distance relationship when Joe Schmo is here, partially attractive, and willing to buy me drinks?” you may ask yourself after one overly strong cranberry and vodka. The answer is, you’re in your long distance relationship because guys like Joe Schmo go to bars on Valentine’s Day and prey on lonely women. Your significant other wouldn’t ever pull a move like that. I digress. Hanging with people who don’t care that it’s Valentine’s Day may help make you realize that there’s really not just one day for love. Love should be celebrated every day, even if it’s through sappy text messages or sentimental e-mails. |

Some years ago, during his interview with an American Magazine, he said: 'Christianity will end, it will disappear. I do not have to argue about that.. I am certain. Jesus was ok, but his subjects were too simple, today we are more famous than Him' (1966). Lennon, after saying that the Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ, was shot six times. Tancredo Neves (President of Brazil ): During the Presidential campaign, he said if he got 500,000 votes from his party, not even God would remove him from Presidency. Sure he got the votes, but he got sick a day before his inauguration as President and he died. Cazuza (Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet): During A show in Canecio ( Rio de Janeiro ), while smoking his cigarette, he puffed out some smoke into the air and said: 'God, that's for you.' He died at the age of 32 of LUNG CANCER in a horrible manner. The man who built the Titanic After the construction of the Cruise Ship, Titanic, a reporter asked him how safe the Titanic would be. With an ironic tone he said: 'Not even God can sink it' The result: I think you all know what happened to the Titanic Marilyn Monroe (Actress) She was visited by Billy Graham during a presentation of a show. He said the Spirit of God had sent him to preach to her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say, she said: 'I don't need your Jesus'. A week later, she was found dead in her apartment Bon Scott (Singer) The ex-vocalist of the AC/DC. On one of his 1979 songs he sang: 'Don't stop me; I'm going down all the way, down the highway to hell'. On the 19th of February 1980, Bon Scott was found dead, he had been choked by his own vomit. Campinas (IN 2005) In Campinas , Brazil, a group of friends, drunk, went to pick up a friend..... The mother accompanied her to the car and was so worried about the drunkenness of her friends and she said to the daughter holding her hand, who was already seated in the car: 'My Daughter, Go With God And May He Protect You.' She responded: 'Only If He (God) Travels In The Trunk, 'Cause Inside Here.....It's Already Full ' Hours later, news came that they had been involved in a fatal accident, everyone had died. The car could not be recognized what type of car it had been, but surprisingly, the trunk was intact. The police said there was no way the trunk could have remained intact. To their surprise, inside the trunk was a crate of eggs, none was broken Christine Hewitt (Jamaican Journalist and entertainer) said the Bible (Word of God) was the worst book ever written. In June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her motor vehicle. Many more important people have forgotten that there is no other name that was given so much authority as the name of Jesus. Many have died, but only Jesus died and rose again, and he is still alive.... "J-E-S-U-S" PS: If it was a joke, you would have sent it to everyone. So, are you going to have the courage to send this?. I have done my part. Jesus said: 'If you are embarrassed about me, I will also be embarrassed about you before my father.' You are my 8 in 8 seconds. I am not breaking this.. No way! Just repeat this prayer and see how God moves!! 'Lord, I love you and I need you, come into my heart, and bless me, my family, my home, and my friends, in Jesus' name. Amen. |

The election by the 24th Summit of the African Union of President Robert Mugabe as its new Chairman mocked the idiocy of a Euro-American ‘’Kunta Kinte’’ diplomacy which did not hesitate to slaughter African leaders known for fierce economic patriotism. French officials are blamed for killing with a plane crash Bartholomew Boganza, a Catholic priest turned nationalist politician who rejected joining a French federal project; and proposed a ‘’Latin Central African Federation’’ which included: Ubangi Shari, Chad, Cameroun, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville and today’s Democratic Republic of Congo. After France sabotaged his initiative, he kept the dream by renaming his country, Ubangi Shari, as ‘’Central African Republic’’. Patrice Lumumba’s recall of Belgian colonial brutalities against Congolese peoples, including: cutting off hands of millions incited American President Eisenhower into endorsing his immediate termination. The Portuguese secret police used letter bomb post-marked from Sweden to kill Eduardo Mondlane, a former Anthropology professor at Syracuse University turned leader of armed struggle in Mozambique. His successor, President Samora Machel, and Amilcar Cabral were also murdered. Cote d’Ivoire’s Laurent Gbagbo is in prison at The Hague; having dared to deny European Union companies monopoly over every government contract. He deepened its bitterness by awarding contracts to Chinese companies. The legacy of this diplomacy of cold-blooded murder of Africa’s economic nationalists has earned bitter contempt among Africans. Countries use their diplomacy to promote national aspirations and concrete interests. As an example, Obama’s scotched-earth diplomacy in Libya, Egypt, Syria and Iraq has turned Arab guns against each other to enable a policy of ‘’no American boots’’ on Arab arenas of bloodshed. President Mugabe has expressed the African version of self interest with his doctrine of ‘’Africa is for Africans’’. In his doctrine, resources ranging from butterflies fluttering over fields of flowers; clouds racing over hills; grasslands and medicinal plants - which support tourism and pharmaceutical drugs - must be owned and exploited by black Zimbabweans primarily for the benefit of black Zimbabweans. Mugabe’s voice has won hearts and minds across Africa following decades of NATO’s silence over slave economies run by Firestone Company in Liberia; engineering debts and World Bank policies for social and economic warfare against African peoples. As Mugabe chairs the post-24th summit of the African Union he should recall power in a people mobilized to construct a desired economic future; the secret weapon of revolutionary armed struggle. Such a seed of mobilization exists in the ‘’African Peer Review Mechanism, APRM’’. One vital arm of APRM is African leaders reviewing each other’s performance. A country that has voluntarily asked to be reviewed is reported on by African experts mandated by the leaders themselves. Some countries are reluctant to be reviewed. Mugabe may wish to reach the peoples of these countries to build fire under their leaders. The experts who write these reports collaborate with local committees consisting of professional associations, trade unions, academics, media workers, bankers, health workers, farmers, traders, and NGOs. A local committee intensively researches conditions in a country and produces a report independent of government officials before discussing findings with experts drawn from other African countries. Such experts include former governors of central banks, ministers of finance, distinguished accountants, economists and other scientists. In November 2012, NGOs that I interviewed in Accra, Ghana, complained bitterly of lack of funds to enable them monitor Government’s implementation of recommendations in the APRM report on Ghana. In Rwanda, journalists from the private media were critical of officials prohibiting them from earning revenue from advertisements. President Mugabe should reinvigorate reviews of governance by mobilized citizens under APRM. In 1980 his victory aroused vigorous celebrations by students of Ahmadu Bello University. The students had, since 1978, attended annual simulations of summits of the Organisation of African Unity by their peers. A ‘guerrilla leader’ from Zimbabwe’s ZANU-PATRIOTIC FRONT always reported from the warfront to crowds at these summits; and of televised versions of them. They were emotionally and intellectually part of Mugabe’s struggle to win power. On January 28th, 2014 two students from Anglican Girls Grammar School were flown by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation in London to participate in an ‘’African Youth Forum’’ of 250 youths. They delivered speeches as Presidents of Zimbabwe and Senegal at a ‘mini AU-Summit’ to the participants. They carried to a trans-Africa level the legacy of OAU Summits at the Ahmadu Bello University. The Africa Youth Forum was jointly organised by Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chair of the African Union Commission and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. President Mugabe, as Chair of the African Union, would usefully initiate a maiden ALL-AFRICA STUDENT AFRICAN UNION SUMMIT at Addis Ababa, and AU Student Clubs in schools in each African country. The African Peer Review Mechanism would benefit from continent-wide rainstorms of youth pan-Africanism. |

gadget is for you February 12 NEW YORK If you love your iPhone but miss your BlackBerry's buttons -- keep reading. A new technology, developed by startup Tactus, morphs your touch screen so that it actually feels as if there are buttons protruding. "The original motivation [was] bringing a BlackBerry-like product experience to the touchscreen," said Craig Ciesla, CEO and co-founder of Tactus Technology. "The iPhone was out, but I was still using a Blackberry." The Silicon Valley startup has been developing its patented microfluidic technology for the past six years. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a bit longer for its iPhone product to roll out. The first product, Phorm, just fits the iPad mini. Phorm is an accessory: a case, keyboard and screen protector all in one. The keyboard element, though, is invisible. A panel on the back of the case slides to activate finger guides. It takes roughly one second for the buttons to rise and slightly longer for them to rescind. (Though they're working on shaving time off to make it even more efficient.) Related: Geolocate your keys -- or your cat With the help of one of the lead keyboard designers for BlackBerry (BBRY, Tech30), as well as former Nokia (NOK) and Amazon (AMZN, Tech30) Lab126 employees, Tactus aims to improve typing on touchscreens and ultimately increase work productivity. This also has big benefits for tech companies (it'll improve usability) and carriers (it'll drive up data use). The technology, which was demoed at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show, is on a 30-day pre-sale for $99. (It's expected to retail at $149.) The products are expected to be ready by this summer. Related: Coolest tech gadgets There are about 2 billion smart screens sold per year (including smartphones, tablets, notebooks and other smart devices), according to RK Parthasarathy, vice president of sales and marketing at Tactus. It plans to fit the technology for the iPhone 6 within six months, and follow it with the iPad Air. The company is also eying Android devices, but that likely won't be until 2016. Parthasarathy declined to talk specifics about potential partnerships but said: "[We] are having conversations with the biggest brick and mortar retailers and carriers." This could mean working with companies to create touchscreens that incorporate Tactus' technology, rather than just being an accessory. When asked whether they've had talks with Apple (AAPL, Tech30) about integrating the technology into its devices, Parthasarathy was tight-lipped. "We have," he said. |

Love Despite The Distance When Irina and Woodford McClellan got married, they never imagined it would be another 11 years until they could be together. In the early 1970s, Irina was living in Moscow working for the Institute of World Economy and International Relations. It was there that she met an American professor named Woodford McClellan. Irina and Woodford fell in love and married two years later in May 1974. Only a short while later, in August, Woodford’s visa expired and he had to leave the Soviet Union and return home.Woodford tried to visit his wife in Moscow but was repeatedly denied entry. In turn, Irina was denied permission to leave the country, without explanation. The two newlyweds marked their anniversaries with cards, photographs, and phone calls. Over 11 years later, Irina finally received the green light to move to the United States. In late January 1986, she flew into the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Her husband, whom she had last seen a decade ago in an airport thousands of miles away, greeted her with excitement and open arms. Reporters there captured the heartwarming reunion, and Irina further captured the experience in a book—Of Love and Russia: The Eleven-Year Fight for My Husband and Freedom. 960 Years Of Separations Anna Kozlov had only been a newlywed for three days when she bid her husband Boris adieu. He was off to fight in the Red Army and she would await his return—or so they thought. During Boris’s time away from home, Stalin exiled Anna and her family to Siberia, and Anna couldn’t even leave word for her husband. Boris spent years looking for her. The two shared a hometown, but Anna was barred from visiting it, so the two completely lost contact.Anna was so distraught that she seriously contemplated suicide. Her mother then destroyed all mementos of Boris and Anna’s life together, including wedding photographs and letters. She eventually remarried. Boris, unbeknownst to her, did the same. Years passed, and both lost their spouses. And then, 60 years after Boris and Anna had said “I do,” something miraculous happened. Anna at last managed to visit their shared hometown of Borovlyanka when she saw an elderly man in the distance. It was Boris. He’d come to the village to pay his respects at his parents’ burial site, and when he noticed Anna, he ran up to her. In true fairytale fashion, they had a second wedding and lived happily ever after.8The Notebook In Real Life The Notebook famously tells of a woman who suffers from dementia and her husband who reads their story to her to remind her of her life. The movie is based on a fictional romance novel, but it didn’t have to be. Jack and Phyllis Potter are the real life British version—in his early 90s, Jack Potter refuses to let the love of his life slip away into the solitude of dementia. Jack started keeping a journal when he was a child, and he kept up the practice his entire life. When Jack met Phyllis on October 4, 1941, the pages of his diary captured their romance. Jack liked Phyllis from the moment he met her, describing in his diary, “Very nice evening. Danced with [a] very nice girl. Hope I meet her again.” A mere 16 months after that first encounter, the two were married. They lived in Kent, England for over half a century. Eventually Phyllis’s dementia took a deep hold on her life and it was too much for Jack to handle on his own. She had to move into a nursing home. That didn’t deter Jack. He visits her every day. And every day, he reads to her from his diaries. He reminds her of their family and pets with photographs. Through everything, Phyllis hasn’t forgotten how much she loves Jack. She’s always overjoyed when he arrives to see her. The two have now been married for 70 years. 775 Years After First Kiss Photo credit: News Corp Australia When Carol Harris starred as Sleeping Beauty in a third grade play, her co-star George Raynes “laid a big wet one on her.” George was playing the prince and had just initiated his first kiss. George moved from Saint John, New Brunswick to Toronto, Ontario after high school, where he got married and raised a family. Decades passed, and 61 years later, he lost his wife. He decided to revisit his old stomping grounds in Saint John, and there, Carol and George crossed paths again. The two hit it off and quickly became close friends. A romance blossomed, and George proposed to Carol in an Ontario restaurant. Rounding out their fairytale first kiss, George told People magazine that their romance was “Like Beauty and the Beast,” and Carol says, “I finally found my Prince Charming.” Amazingly, 75 years after their first kiss, they were married.6100-Year-Old Marries Dream Woman In 1983, friends set Forrest Lunsway and Rose Pollard up at a party, hoping the two would dance together. Forrest had been widowed twice. Rose had lost her own spouse to a long and painful illness, and she had no intention of remarrying. She just wanted companionship.Even though they lived 64 kilometers (40 mi) apart, they made the effort to see each other regularly. It was a slow courtship. For the next two decades, Forrest would often drive the full distance to take Rose on a date and then drive home afterward that same night. In 2003, Forrest moved in with Rose in Capistrano Beach. Then he proposed. Rose didn’t take him seriously, since he was 90 and she was 80. She jokingly agreed to marry him when he turned 100. For Forrest it was no joke, and as his hundredth birthday approached, she decided to take him up on his offer. The couple were married at their local Community Center on Forrest’s 100th birthday. A beautiful nearby hotel donated a free honeymoon ocean-view room. Congratulations came from all over the world. Even President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama sent well wishes. 5 Longest Married Couple Almost Never Happened Ann was 17, born to Syrian immigrants. John was 21, and the two grew up in the same neighborhood. The two became friends in high school when he would pick her up and take her to their Connecticut school. Ann’s parents nearly thwarted the blossoming romance—her father had planned to arrange a marriage for her to someone 20 years her senior. Refusing to give up on love, John and Ann ran away to New York City. Ann’s father lamented, but a family member consoled him by saying young love wouldn’t last. The lovebirds eloped in 1932 and watched the world go through incredible transformations, from the Great Depression to World War II, from the golden age of radio to TV to iPhones. On November 24, 2013, John and Ann Betar celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary. The couple have created quite the brood. Their five children birthed them 14 grandchildren who had 16 great-grandchildren. John, 102, and Ann, 98, are the longest married couple in the United States of America. 4 Heart-Breaking Song Sometimes, the most touching love stories are those that carry on after one person dies. Fred Stobaugh has never gotten over losing the love of his life. He married Lorraine, the “prettiest girl [he] ever saw” in Peoria, Illinois in 1940, and their romance was always happy and wonderful. They had three kids and four grandchildren. After 73 years of marriage, Lorraine passed away.Fred, now 96, lived on and tried to mend his broken heart. A month after his wife’s death, he came across an ad for a local song-writing contest. By his own admission, Fred was tone deaf and a non-musician, but he wrote one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching songs to hit the airwaves. He lacked the musical skills to record “Sweet Lorraine,” but he sent in the lyrics along with a letter. Green Shoe Studio was so moved that they decided to make his song come to life. Then they made a short documentary titled A Letter From Fred to show the world Fred’s story. 3COUPlE ALLOWED TO MARRY AFTER. YEARS . When John Mace first saw Richard Dorr, his “heart went pitter pat.” They met in the 1950s as students at Julliard where their shared love for music turned into love for each other. John had been married before, so Richard helped raise John’s son Paul. When Paul died in 1983 in a car accident, they helped each other through the grieving. For many years, they had to hide the truth of their affections from the world. For decades, the couple stayed together despite country-wide homophobia, and in 2011, the couple rejoiced when New York legalized gay marriage. The couple celebrated by showing family, friends, and reporters their relationship by spending the weekend performing love songs in their apartment. Sixty-one years after their paths first crossed, John Mace, 84, and Richard Dorr, 91, wed in a quiet ceremony in June 2011. 2 COUPLE BORN TOGETHER AND DIEd TOGETHER. / Grunion Gazette Les Brown Jr. and his wife Helen were both born on December 31, 1918. When they met in high school, they were instantly smitten. Les came from money, while Helen’s family was working class, so their parents disapproved of their young love. But as soon as they left high school at 18, the pair eloped. They lived their life in Southern California, where they raised a family. They spent every day together and even in their 90s were an active and healthy couple. Near the end of their days, Helen was sick from stomach cancer and Les was suffering with Parkinson’s disease. After 75 years of marriage, Helen died on July 16, 2013. Les passed on the next day. 1lOVE ACROSS THE WATER** After knowing her grandfather as a somber and dignified man, Judith Lovell was in awe when she discovered love letters between him and her grandmother. David Hurd had moved from Jamaica to New York City in 1907 where he took on all sorts of jobs to earn his keep. Feeling lonely, he started writing to a woman in the Caribbean. His first letter reached Avril Cato in October 1913. Over the next year David fell head over heels for the mystery woman without ever even seeing a photograph of her.Their romance grew with each letter, sent with dabs of perfume along with the loving words. Even though they’d never met in person, David sent a letter proposing marriage and nervously awaited a response. Avril’s family gave their blessing. The first time they met was in Jamaica when David arrived for their wedding date in August 1914. Sparks flew just as both had hoped. Avril left for America with David the day after their wedding. They settled into New York City and raised six children. Avril passed away in 1962. David would never marry again and loved Avril until the day he died in 1971.Kristance grew up in a haunted house in Vermont. Sweet Valentine I could watch the sunrise, I could watch the sunset, I could walk in the rain without getting wet, I could witness their beauty as the flowers bloom, I could I could listen to bird songs as the new day dawns, I could feel the sunshine through the darkest clouds, ************ 2 THE LOVERS PLEA Email1 Come carry me home to your heart, And never will the two of us be apart, The lush land and all its dreamy birds, Will sing along to our love-spoken words. There we shall pass gracious time, Living in lackadaisical rhyme, By rivers vast and mountains plenty, Where sheep travel in flocks of twenty. And I will sing your name out loud, So that it disturbs every floating cloud, And never shall we be without sweet thrills, Forevermore we will dance on lavender hills. ☺☺☺☺☺ And from the land we will take our pleasures, That will provide for us in endless measures, We will bathe ourselves in honey dew, And swim in oceans of sapphire blue. Our love will warm us like the sun, And in your arms I will be undone, So if you long to live in natures art, Come carry me home to your heart. I will pick for you the finest berries, And baskets of voluptuous cherries, In breezy shade we will watch the swans elope, And together emulate their undying hope. Each day will be brighter than the last, And never will we imagine greener grass, So if this kind of life you wish to start, Come carry me home to your heart. ☺♥. ☺ /█\ /█\ .||. .| |. ♥ I could hear a sweet whisper through the roar of a crowd, I could walk on water without soaking my feet, I could travel the world in less than a week, I could ponder the knowledge passed down by the wise, I could dwell in a castle built in the sky, I could paint a portrait and bring it to life, I could sleep without pain, on the edge of a knife, I could play a sweet melody to soften the mood, I could take all the bad and turn it to good, I could float on the breeze, I could fly on the wind, I could soar high in the sky leaving the world behind, I could travel the cosmos and watch it unfold, I could witness it's power, so wonderful to behold, But of all the wonderful things I could do, There's nothing in the universe that compares to you, I'll hold you in my heart for the rest of my life, You're my living miracle, my sweet valentine.***** 3 My Valentine.. My Sweet Valentine My Valentine, ☺♥☺ /█\ /█\ .||. .| |. ♥ My sweet valentine, My candle in the wind; It's the morning fresh air The breeze that awakens the sudden chirping of blue birds, And soft fluttering butterflies It's the expression on your countenance With your soft brown legs intertwine with mine, between the sheets; As your heart beat explores mine With the plucking of the single guitar strings and the harmony of the piano Fluctuates over the tight, clouded air space. It's like driving through the countryside with the windows down; The smell of fresh cut grass and the dance of the cows utter swaying under the farmer's tight grip. The dandelions slowly flowing in the shades of the rainbow above the seas and oceans Glistening waterfalls and your body shimmering through the water like an electrical tides flowing throw the current of the streams Every touch can be left unsaid, like the slow touch of your fingers, to the pull of your hands And my arms slowly around your waist like the Waltz My eyes fixated upon your softness, like a dream come true With the clouds shadowing the sunlight and day becomes night With the fading of the red flames intertwine with the sparkling waters slowly fading away Your kiss was electrifying like the perfect mirage of a desert with the sand domes slowly falling apart And awoken to the change of tides with the bridge of the piano slowly brushes upon the guitar and entrance of the violin cascading behind the sharp edges of a misinterpreted note My Valentine My sweet Valentine |

Each year on February 14 we peruse the store shelves for the perfect gift or card for a loved one. According to Hallmark, more than 163 million cards—not including packaged kids’ valentines—are exchanged. And it’s not just an American phenomenon. Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Italy and Denmark. But why? How did this holiday of love and romance originate and, more importantly, how did St. Valentine become involved? The answers to those questions are not easy ones. Valentine’s Day is a holiday shrouded in mystery and legend. The origins of St. Valentine’s Day lie in the ancient Roman fertility festival Lupercalia, which was celebrated on February 15. During the festival, young women would place their names in a large urn. The young men would draw a name from the turn and then be romantically linked with that young woman for the following year. Although the mid-February holiday celebrating love and lovers remains wildly popular, the confusion over its origins led the Catholic Church, in 1969, to drop St. Valentine’s Day from the Roman calendar of official, worldwide Catholic feasts. (Those highly sought-after days are reserved for saints with more clear historical record. After all, the saints are real individuals for us to imitate.) Some parishes, however, observe the feast of St. Valentine. ] The roots of St. Valentine’s Day lie in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated on Feb. 15. For 800 years the Romans had dedicated this day to the god Lupercus. On Lupercalia, a young man would draw the name of a young woman in a lottery and would then keep the woman as a sexual companion for the year. Pope Gelasius I was, understandably, less than thrilled with this custom. So he changed the lottery to have both young men and women draw the names of saints whom they would then emulate for the year (a change that no doubt disappointed a few young men). Instead of Lupercus, the patron of the feast became Valentine. For Roman men, the day continued to be an occasion to seek the affections of women, and it became a tradition to give out handwritten messages of admiration that included Valentine’s name. There was also a conventional belief in Europe during the Middle Ages that birds chose their partners in the middle of February. Thus the day was dedicated to love, and people observed it by writing love letters and sending small gifts to their beloved. Legend has it that Charles, duke of Orleans, sent the first real Valentine card to his wife in 1415, when he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. (He, however, was not beheaded, and died a half-century later of old age.) |

ThinkingAgain.com A Firm Stance - Letter to Satan 1999 Source Unknown A Letter to Satan Hey Satan, You really shook me up last night! Having someone go into a Youth Rally and shoot people, that seemed cruel even for you! You almost had me discouraged and disheartened. Almost. Then I started to realize what was really going on. My main question was why are you attacking Christian Youth? Then it hit me, fear. You realize that these are the people that will turn the tide of your "battle". You are so afraid because these youth aren't afraid of your conventional weapons. Peer pressure, drugs, sex, greed are all failing as these kids are standing up and saying "NO! I choose to honor God with my behavior." You tried cranking up the heat, making the culture more enticing to them, and they still say "NO!" So you try to use the weapon that works well with adults, fear. That's not working. You killed them in Paducah, KY but still they pray. You shot them because they said yes to Jesus in Littleton, CO and they still choose to walk with God. Now you murder them in Fort Worth, and they will still Worship our awesome God. In case you haven't figured it out yet, it won't work! Our kids won't cave in to you!! They are going to do exactly what you fear most, they will pray for strength. And God will give it to them! He will give them strength to keep going. They will spark a revival in our nation that will turn millions back to God. Once again, Jesus' love will beat your hate! Oh and as for trying to make them feel that life is hopeless, that's where I come in. I won't let that happen. I will fight you every step of the way, showing the hope that is the unconditional love of Jesus Christ. You see I know we have not been given a spirit of fear, but God calls us His children, and you don't mess with one of God's kids! So take your shots and try, but we will not cave, and we're finished being on the defensive. Jesus tells us that the Gates of Hell can't stop us, and we're claiming that promise. So get ready for the battle of your life. Problem for you is, you have already lost. You lost 2,000 years ago when you tried to kill Jesus. Now the students that you kill are standing with Him, no more pain, laughing at you and your feeble attempt at victory. Please understand, this is no less then a declaration of war. You may want to give up now, cause our Dad is on our side and Jesus told us that if He is for us nobody can stand against us. So if you desire, we will accept your unconditional surrender, otherwise let's get ready to rumble! |
