Career / Re: Oil Workers Zone. by yamakuza: 5:02am On Dec 09, 2012
BlueDiva: The real perks of working in an oil company is enjoyed by those expatriates execs.

First class trips when going on vacation
Bullet proof vehicles and escort when leaving the island.
Nice houses on the island.
Free shipping of personal items from home country.
Free driver and fueling of vehicle to be used 24/7
Free importation of foods and essentials from outside the country to meet their needs.
Driver, cook and maid at beck and call.

These are the real prima donas.

do you/we enjoy the same things when you/we go to their countries? or do they enjoy those perks only in Nigeria?

(role reversal vs peculiarity to Nigeria)

mikron: even that fine babe in the enclosed picture? d.a.m.n

i hope she's not the one in the 5th picture. if she is, i wonder what happened to her clothes. doesn't look burnt.

same applies to the dark and probably acephalous body underneath (her). seems more than booze was distracting the driver.

as to the accident, how do 2 cars headed in the same direction collide? unless there's a third party involved?

Career / Re: Career Advice Needed: Unpaid Internship In Europe Or 180k Sallary In Nigeria by yamakuza: 2:19am On Dec 08, 2012
Do I go for unpaid internship where I would maybe borrow about 5000 Euros for living expenses for 6 months with the hope of either being retained (I will earn 5000 Euros monthly if this happens smiley) or making the best of connections that would launch me into a great career thereafter (speculative)?

I will appreciate a front page for this smiley

Thinking...........

babeface3: You might be marveled that this poser is raised as the answer looks so obvious, but wait a minute. I am a masters degree holder from one of the European universities, but still clad with salary level of 180k per month here in Nigeria (recently increased from 150k) with the oddest kind of job for my educational height.

I got an offer
for internship in one of the nicest countries in Europe and the promise for retention after that depends on how well I am able to impress them. I am not struggling for accommodation as my girlfriend's (from Europe) cousin lives and works there and promised of getting me a modest accommodation at a affordable cost. I think I have the opportunity of making great contacts base on what I read which is more relevant out there.

based on the highlighted,
the odds appear greater/better if you go for it. consider it a vacation of sorts. expensive, albeit.

[s]
how well can you afford this? will it break you?
seems to be the key question here[/s]

This will obviously delay my marriage at 35, and im i ready for the sacrifice? I am presently thinking in the line of "a bird at hand...". Folks do I really have this bird in the present job where i do the oddest type of work and yet earn peanuts?

marriage to a naija chic or euro gal?

sounds like a private coy, and one without a union at that.

all in all, they most likely didnt go about it the right way, hence the outcome.

as to your question, the short/simple answer is no, while the longer answer is yes.

no because if they had all joined in, sacking them all would have been more difficult; and taking the coy to court, easier.

jossy26: Hello house, pls I need your help as regard dis issue about my career. I have an HND in elect/elect and am considering two options to further my education. Firstly is to either pursue a Btech in university of south africa (unisa)' its well recognised or I go for a PGD in management science and then MBA.
My constraints are; for the unisa, I may find that a bit difficult to cope cos its been a while I graduated from school, am more business inclined now but the stigma on HND is the main reason I want to go for it.
I will cope well with a PGD in management science nd MBA
but that HND is giving me a major concern.

I beg experience peeps in the house to come to my aid; am at a fix now on the direction to go

Doctor flaky: so wot are u guys advicing her 2do?

your ceo wants her to stay, i think she should stay and i think i've also managed to win Mustay's vote too.

whats your vote? whats her vote?

who advised her to leave before, btw? you or the GM?
Webmasters / Re: . by yamakuza: 8:12pm On Nov 23, 2012
@DC : thanks for the recommendation. will surely check them out.

@AM : just to add to what others have said: when redesigning, kindly add the option to buy multiple cards at once. if i remember correctly, even though it appeared you had only N100 vouchers in stock that night, i would have had to make 50 different orders to buy say, N5k worth of cards. and thats not even considering the inconvenience of loading them afterwards; or the possibility that the cards might finish on the 39th run, or that i might exhaust my remaining megabytes while ordering ... etc, etc

we'll be watching sha. all the best !

Mustay: Okkkkkk. I see - she serves as the 'checks and balances' in the organisation.

yes oh ! dat kain thing!

imagine a young businessman who has been changing sales girls every month for 2 years.

then he gets one that comes early to work, does her work well, and returns excess cash!

would he leave her open to the competition, or marry her and make her a permanent part of the business?

the many wonders/travails of SMEs/one man businesses!

thats not even considering that a lot of young ceos get involved with/marry their PAs/Secretaries.

Too many hours spent together, maybe.

all in all, good staff are hard to find, so i wont blame a boss that intends to make any he finds permanent, even if its by marriage!

(an example might not even be too far from us here grin )

lol at the way u keep missing the name

maclatunji: Like I said last night , Brother X sent me a mail detailing the courses he is interested in. What you are about to read next are the contents of that mail:

Salamalaikum brother, sorry for the late response, my network was bad

this is a step by step list of the courses

would be done at Kits technologies, Palm avenue Mushin, Lagos
cctv/ip surveillance installation and maintenance= 7,500, a two days intensive training
vsat installation and maintenance= 7,500, a two days intensive training

would be done at affanti technologies, Ipaja Lagos
[s]electric fence installation and maintenance=25,000 a two days intensive training[/s]

would be done at New Horizon, Ikeja Lagos
ccna full course= 45,000, a two months intensive training
[s]ccnp full course=110,000, a five months intensive training[/s]

this are the list of courses i would like to take for now brother, note all the courses above excluding the ccna and ccnp are courses i can do first that would enable me raise money for the other expensive once, i have a good spirit of marketing online so i would be able to grow a quick and good client ones am done with the courses...please feel free to ask me questions where necessary because i believe am not perfect and i may not have put my words down clearly...

Jazakumllah khairan,

allow me to cross out 2 of the above based on what 2 other people said.

that brings the cost to N15k + N45k = N60k

i doubt he included exam fees, so the extras can go towards that.

2ndly, and more importantly, the Chairman/MD/CEO of KITS is a very devout and pious muslim.

i'm sure if he sees this thread, he can place the guy on scholarship. maybe if a committee can visit him ...

the reason i say this is because even with those skills/certs, he isnt guaranteed a job.

what he needs right now is an internship arrangement, where he can learn on the job, and possibly get retained.

if KITS cannot employ him or give him an internship position, i'm sure an arrangement can be reached where they supervise/manage a small internet kiosk for him.

that should afford him the opportunity to develop hands on skills and take his exams over time.

all the best !

^ why cant the GM go?

the ceo might have seen some unique skills/qualities in her, and might see her as someone that can grow the company with him.

maybe he even trusts her more than the GM, and feels she can have his back when he's not around.

OP, what is the basis of their love? is it professional or simply amorous?

ie, does she contribute actively/extra to the growth of the company, or is she just a fine girl that does her work and nothing more?

[s]btw, r u MD, PhD or some other kind of doctor?[/s]

Career / Re: Office Relationships.... by yamakuza: 6:03pm On Nov 22, 2012
i think it depends on how strategic her role is or can be.

if its a one man business, the ceo might have seen a future business partner in her.

in that case, she'll need a promotion asap.

so, please tell us, what role does she currently play in this company and does the ceo own the company??
Business / Re: Your experiences with the UBA Naira Visa Africard by yamakuza: 5:54pm On Nov 22, 2012
bukahands:

Baba tnx I have gotten the card, have u tried transfering from ur account to the uBA africard cos I use GTB I don't wanna do internet transfer and ma money hangs on the air

you can only xfer online from a UBA account to the card, or from the card to a UBA account or another Africard.

you cant xfer online from other banks to it. you'll have to do a physical deposit in that case.

Webmasters / Re: How Can I Make Home Link Appear On The Menu by yamakuza: 12:20pm On Nov 22, 2012
i cant even see any navigational menu on the site.

after creating your pages or categories, go to Appearance>Menu and create a menu, then add the pages/categories to the menu (including the Home link) then save the menu.

Finally, add the menu to the top or bottom navigation as the case may be.
