kike100: Hi peeps,

Please I need your candid advice thus.

I am a graduate of accounting with MBA. I started by career in the banking industry as a teller, customers service officer, relationship manager. I later moved to project implementation, change management and now am in marketing Comms . I feel my career is haphazard in that if I want to build a particular line, I don't know which to do.

no, its not haphazard. the above highlighted point to a career in Public Relations

I sometimes feel I shld focus on the marketing Comms cos am loving it despite its stress, at the same time I feel like taking courses in child development(so I can own a daycare etc) or HR courses.

a masters in :

1. Psychology (maybe with Guidance Counseling?)
2. Development Management
3. Strategic PR Management

are also good alternatives.

It's all confusing. I welcome any help to aid my decision.

Please no insults o

i think you should focus on building a career in Marketing Communications (or Project Management).

you can always hire people to run the daycare while you study.

It's not a do-o-die (Baba OBJ e ma binu) but if personal commitments don't permit me to be effective, then I'd throw in the trowey towel.

you have my support as well ...

Sammy107_d: With pleasure wink

@mukina2,

I am new to this forum but won't mind moderating it. I think I can easily meet all the basic requirements.

The foreign politics section is getting boring by the day grin. This section should be more intellectually stimulating.

I am sure you saw the disclaimer at the end of the post. I aint into animations...but I will draw her attention to what you have said.
Thanks on her behalf

i did, and then wondered. when it finally sunk in, i crossed my first line ...

silverluci: Thanks guys, u rock!! Wondering where all the females in this section are?

found any?

dont think there are female (3d) graphic artists on here. yet to come across any

as per how lucrative the field is, lets just say its not too saturated right now, so competition for employment is low, though the pay isnt so fantastic

if/when you become proficient and decide to go solo, theres a very high chance of making megabucks
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: How Is The Animation Market In Nigeria by yamakuza: 10:47pm On Nov 04, 2012
never knew you were into this ...

Enoquin: I wonder why we have so much views but no comment? Why do most people want solution yet do not want to help another

supply and demand, maybe?

@landanski you said blender 3d is good but what about stuffs like corel draw and fireworks or even the one they call adobe illustrator??

Plus are you into animation yourself??
(Am using ma sister's phone hence the username)

the software(s) you listed are geared towards 2d graphics design.
[s]
most 3D software have 3d in their nomenclature.[/s]

lots of tutorials on youtube, btw

just search google for 3D authoring software to get a list of names, then search youtube for tutorials on the titles you find

Webmasters / Re: What Do You Dislike About My Site? by yamakuza: 10:20pm On Oct 27, 2012
thekrine:
Hello everyone,

Good morning. I need a huge favour.

I recently decided to move my blog away from its original location (http://thekrine..com) to (http://www.thekrine.com).

I used a free Wordpress theme called Max Maagazine to design the site. I have almost zero knowledge of designing sites. The Blogger site was easier to set up (and I believe still looks better) but this new website, which is Wordpress based, had all sorts of codes which led me to work with Google and various forums to get the site to where it is at the moment.

My aim was to arrive at a website that loads fast and is easy to navigate.

kudos! it appears you did a pretty good job, for a newbie

Can you be kind enough to visit my website http://www.thekrine.com and tell me what you dislike about the site,

nothing

areas of improvement etc.

i last visited 2 days ago, so the ones i mention now probably had the strongest impressions on me

1. a better looking header/masthead wouldnt hurt

2. seems you used categories for your menu? kinda makes ur urls look weird ... i woulda used pages for them ...

3. twitter updates and facebook social wouldnt hurt ... or so i think ... (and not the follow links you currently have)

If you are visiting the site with a mobile phone please remember to disable the mobile view because I need critic of the desktop view.

Finally, can anyone here suggest a better mobile theme for me. Preferably one that will maintain my sites header. The one I've chosen looks extremely dull and it's same result I'm getting from the other themes I've seen.

search the plugins directory for a Mobile plugin ... and try them till you find one that works perfectly with your current theme, (or any other theme(s) you fancy)

Looking forward to your responses.

Many thanks

thekrine (also known on this forum as mycvclinic)

quite surprised the famous bloggers and reviewers we have here are yet to comment ...

Webmasters / Re: Please I Need Server Explanation by yamakuza: 5:39am On Oct 26, 2012
blink182: Please I have been a web designer for years but there is something I don't get. I know there are hosting companies online who also sell virtual servers.

there are 2 types of servers : physical (you can see/touch) and non-physical

the physical servers are usually called Dedicated Servers

the non-physical are usually called Virtual Dedicated Servers, Virtual Private Servers or Cloud Servers. (they are usually created by splitting a dedicated server into several smaller servers, in a process called virtualization, hence the term virtual).

What I don't understand is some websites saying things like they bought new servers,

there is a limit to how many websites you can put on a server, based on RAM, hard disk and CPU constraints.

once you reach that limit and you have more customers to satisfy, you need to add extra servers to your farm. if you dont, you suffer performance problems.

like they host their website on computers they have somewhere in their house. I've seen it in movies and life. Please can someone explain this to me.

you can buy a dell server from computer village and host websites from your bedroom if you want (heck, you can even turn your phone into a server!)

a generator , inverter or solar energy will come in handy.

the number of people that can view those websites/data however, will depend on the type of internet connection you have. the better it is, the more people you can serve.

to save yourself all that stress, you can ship the server to a datacenter if theres one in Nigeria, or any of the ones overseas. they have all the equipment needed to keep your server online and working.

Thanks, please more contributions are needed. I think I even heard Seun once saying he was working on nairaland servers.

better still, just pay the datacenter/host, and they'll set it all up for you, using one of their own servers, while you focus on administrative duties.
Webmasters / Re: Is It Better Operating As A Company Or As A Freelance? by yamakuza: 3:23am On Oct 25, 2012
1. register a LTD or Business Name
2. open a corporate bank account
3. print letterhead and business cards

you dont have to run/man an office for now. you can arrange to share one with someone, and have your correspondence forwarded, or your calls answered.

4. face your studies, and do online/referral marketing

when the time comes and you have to submit bids/proposals, the letterhead will come in useful.

when its time to discuss payment, the corporate account will set you apart

5. by the time you graduate. you'll be heading a 5yr old company, with 5 years (audited?) corporate account and not a 1yr old one ... very useful when bidding for some contracts

Religion / Re: Fertility Expert: 'I Can Clone A Human Being' by yamakuza: 11:59am On Oct 15, 2012
seriallink: ^^^Do you think a genetic clone would have the same fingerprints as the original? If NO, then, I think every other thing about it, physically & spiritually should be independent of it's origin. Heck, It should have its own soul too~! So, why would you be afraid of an independent clone that has everything of it's own?

For me, I'll consider it a full human since it is independent of its origin.

i actually think it will have the same fingerprint and retinal pattern(s). this might be one of the things that differentiate them from twins.

the only thing i think will be different will be their actions (maybe not even reactions), as a result of how their minds get conditioned.

AjanleKoko: A clone would be like a twin, I guess.
But of course, they would be different personalities. There's not much difference to the test tube baby procedure and what happens during sex. Still the same chemical reactions that produce life.

It would be cool if they could clone already formed embryos, for people who want to have twins, but don't have the genes for it.
Though that would be tough, as most women do not detect pregnancy for about six weeks after conception.

i quite agree with you, but i suspect the op doesnt want to wrap his mind around the possibility that "life can be condensed into a tablet".

2 pills, maybe. one from the female, the other from the male. anything short of that, especially an engineered one, is far from being life? i think not.

*dhtml:
I unfortunately can't be cloned or so I presume.
But if I can be cloned, I wil love to examine the clone medically and spiritually by myself to find out how accurate the clone is.
That having been said, I doubt if I wil voluntarily allow anyone to clone me to start with.
What if the clone becomes a terrorist? I will have to start running away from myself?

I remember this film where a bad man was cloned - the clone was trained well and became a good person. But at the end of the day, the clone killed the man + for reasons unknown to the clone.
The police let the clone go and find its own path.

Notice I was using it for the clone and not a He + I refuse to accept a clone as a real human being.

actually, that'd be a good thing. it will enable us catch bad guys faster (eg Catch Me If You Can )

imagine if the US had a clone of Osama? they would have been able to study it/him and bring down Al Qaeda faster ...
