i think its because most of those threads dont have too many posts on them.

how can you increase the amount of posts on a thread before it gets to FP?

i actually thought i'd seen it all. i stumbled on this article, and fell asleep in the middle cos it was getting too long.

seeing 134 likes at the end jolted me back to reality. Without a call to action !! and nobody complained that it was too long !!!

to think that many NLDers would read a long article and actually like it, shows theres yet hope.

waiting to see what 2013 has to offer ...

Business / Re: My Laptop Recently Arrived From China....this Is How I Did It by yamakuza: 7:18am On Dec 26, 2012
The OP did well by outlining the steps, but i think $161 is too much for a 4gb HDD laptop (like N26k). Isnt that the same laptop people parade for N14k?

Those planning to import from China will be well advised to look for "better deals"

1. Homble Energy, if it exists, wont use a GMail or Yahoo addy. (Its usually 1-man businesses that do that, and the other group you mentioned)

2. To verify its existence, use Google

3. If it/they do(es) exist according to Google, apply for the job directly on their website (assuming the site itself is genuine)

she already has one, let her acquire the other.

when she has both, she can then decide which she prefers.

[s]i really dont see why she cant do both. The Event Planning will run as a side business while she schools, and even when she decides to practice Physiotherapy.[/s]

idko...i think davido is aware of these things.
if you ask me, this stuff was planned. tongue

hmmmn ... i dont think he was aware of the/her plan, but i agree its something he'd expect to happen every now and then.

as per the planning, if by the ladies, then i can agree.

it only goes to show they some are easily star struck or have self esteem issues, maybe.

i dont see anything wrong in flaunting a catch, but i'd expect the lady in question to flaunt a ring (or something substantial) and not a one night stand.

i really dont see how this gives her bragging rights. its not like we are talking of Banky W or Peter Okoye !
Career / Re: How Do I Further My Career? by yamakuza: 4:20am On Dec 20, 2012
honestly, its tough recommending anything that will "change the story" .

thats why i wanted to know how close you were to getting a job.

as always, the best bet is to go through advertised vacancies and list the skills/certs they ask for, then make plans to acquire those you can.

for IT, as a woman, the Microsoft track easily comes to mind. the high end ones, that is. Server Administration or Database Admin.

for Admin, CIPM seems to be the most popular, though theres also the Chartered Institute of Administrators (CIA) and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) or so.

a little time on Google should shed more light on each, as well as the threads below :

Webmasters / Re: Instagram Now Has The Right To Sell Your Photos by yamakuza: 2:16am On Dec 19, 2012
tpia1: What's instagram?

I've been seeing something called that but still not sure what its supposed to be.

Who are they selling the photos to?

China?

www.instagram.com

its like an online album (eg flickr, picasa, etc) that you can share with your friends (social: the difference)

it was recently acquired by facebook (cos of the social aspect maybe, or cos they were scared it would overtake fbk's photosharing features)

basically, with the app on your phone/pc, you can take pictures of events, road trips, etc and share it with your friends or the whole world (kinda like a photoblog)

imagine you went on a road trip and happened to catch a live volcano for example, or the assassination of Bleep. Instagram has the right to sell the pix to say, CNN once you upload it there.

Hellllpp

hello,

to reply a post or thread, you dont have to copy and paste anything.

1. you can use the REPLY link at the bottom center of every thread (just above the adverts at the bottom); or if you want to respond to a particular post/poster, click the QUOTE link below that post. the person's comment will automatically be highlighted, copied and pasted into the compose box for you.

2. in case you want to modify the fonts, you can make use of the tools on the compose box (after doing 1 above), or put b and /b in open and close square brackets [] at the beginning and end of the sentence you want to highlight/make bold.

Webmasters / Re: How Apple And Amazon Security Flaws Led To My Epic Hacking: MUST READ by yamakuza: 12:50am On Dec 18, 2012
Slyr0x: Y'all should take time out to read this.

I know it's a bit lengthy but you can bookmark and read when you're free.

In summary, this story is about how Mat Honnan, wired.com 's tech-reporter's life got bleep.e.d. 'cos the very four digits that Amazon considers unimportant enough to display in the clear on the Web are precisely the same ones that Apple considers secure enough to perform identity verification

cant believe i read every single word ...

SUMMARY: some 19yr fell in love with Matt's 3 letter twitter handle and wanted it for himself. so he traced the handle to a web address, got his email address and proceeded to gain access to his Gmail account from where he gained access to the twitter handle he wanted.

so yeah, your GMail accounts can be compromised; if you dont take steps to prevent this. Easily too.

how did he do it? you'll need to read the article in full ...

Now my questions are these:
Can I do the same with my background type?

yes

What masters courses have lasting business
potential or business of the future lasting
potential?
In short, what am asking is this, from my
background, can anyone see a coming huge
trend especially a lasting one?
This I ask because am confused if I am to
consider doing my masters or not. The
location of the campus does not matter. The
course might not be offered in Nigeria. huh

anything from Renewable Energy/Green Computing to Information/Software Engineering, maybe

Economics is the most marketable on your list, followed by Business Admin. they will also be the most difficult to get admission for, so your choice will depend on how strong you are.

if you are applying to 2 universities, you can choose economics in both, and then settle for whatever they give you.

if you are applying to only 1 university, you can choose Economics and then Sociology.

That will be taken care by somebody, that's why I said I don't know. There's no guarantee with anything, but the chances are good.

Mechanical engineering. I don't think abuja has the kind of industry I would like to break into, its more of government, parastatals etc. I have been to ph before, but lagos is more like the epic center besides corpers teach only in ph 100%
I schooled in the north.

mechanical, mechanical, mechanical ..... hmmmmmn!

yeah, abuja might not be it ... and u dont like ph, so its back to lagos.

corpers teach 100% in lagos too o, so the best you can hope for is to use your spare time to develop yourself by acquiring skills.

I didn't mean thoes kind of government institutions, more like the technical arm of government institutions. That's why I am not considering abuja, I don't want to switch careers and become a politician, I want to practic what I studied.

youth service might not be the best time to "practice what you studied" and even it is, a government agency might not be the best place

Can a corper be posted to private sector? I haven't heard of any lately, but if its possible then we're in play.

no. but things happen, and people find their way around these things.

I would like to do my service in lagos, though I am not familiar with the city, truth being told I have never been there before
^^
Wish uld help, but I don't know how its done.
People please!!!

since there is little or no guarantee that you will serve in Lagos, why this thread?

in the event that you do get posted to Lagos, i believe all corpers get to teach.

perhaps, if you can show us how you plan to scale the two hurdles above, you might get better responses.

Hi everybody.
I just recently graduated I studied engineering and due for service. It scares me but I am confident I am going to get through it, I try to convince my self.
I would like to do my service in lagos, though I am not familiar with the city, truth being told I have never been there before, but in other to get ahead in my profession I think it will be best I go there.

which engineering did you study?

why are you not considering PHC and ABJ as well?

the school you finished from also determines how far they'll throw you, you know?

My problem is, I would like to know any nice government institutions where an engineer can serve in lagos, I know there are many but considering am not from there, I would appreciate if you guys can help me out.
Thank you in anticipation and God bless.. Xoxo

none. even if you end up in Abuja, you'll still get to serve tea all day.

you might want to target the private sector.

all the best !
