PoliticsMy Wife Cried On Phone As She Was Being Carried Away By Rampaging Water – Sani by yashedabai(op): 7:57am On Jul 22, 2018
It was a black Monday for residents of Jibia local government area of Katsina State as they experienced a downpour that lasted several hours and resulting in flood which claimed 53 lives and destroyed over 500 houses.

260 livestock were also dead and farmlands destroyed. Those who died were mostly children and women. Some were washed away by flood while others died as a result of collapsed buildings. The flood also washed away vehicles. There was great mourning as sympathisers trooped into the area to commiserate with victims.

Some of the victims recounted their losses and narrated their ordeal to Sunday Vanguard. Sani Yahaya is a resident of Dan Tudu Sabuwar (new settlement) who got married to his wife, Hindatu Sani, 22, also known as Ummi, some six months ago.
According to him, Ummi died in the flood that also demolished part of their house while he was away on business trip.

Narrating his story, Sani said his wife’s last phone call to him was when the flood had submerged the house and she told him the water had got to her neck and was about taking her away. Shortly after, he lamented, her mobile phone went dead.

“I buy and sell second hand clothes. We go to Shinkafi in Zamfara every Wednesday to buy clothes and transport them, together with my boss, Awwalu, to the southern part of the country to sell”, the bereaved husband said.

“On the fateful day, she called to notify me that she was feeling discomfort in the house and I told her not to panic but pray that everything will be alright. Later that night, she called me three times but I was asleep. I called her back when I woke up and she told me that she was scared, that everywhere was flooded by a downpour and that I should help her call for rescue.

All those I called, including my younger brother, to go and rescue her told me the water had taken over the road and there was nowhere to get to my house.

“Shortly thereafter, she called to tell me that the water had reached her neck and was about to sweep her away. Her mobile phone then went dead.

“I cherished a lot of things about her. She was cool headed, obedient, respectful and of good character. We married about six months and 10 days before this incident separated us.

“My parents and other members of our family survived the flood. They are currently taking refuge in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp”.

I couldn’t rescue my brother’s wife – Younger brother

Ibrahim Officer, Sani’s younger brother, who was living houses away from his elder brother’s house, said he attempted to go and rescue Ummi but there was no road to get to the house as the flood had taken over everywhere.

Officer however said, “I rescued our parents and my family”.

“He (my elder brother) told me on phone to go and rescue his wife, that she called him around 2am to say flood water had reached her neck and about to claim her life…and that I should send somebody from my house to rescue her.

“I was on my way when I found that the flood water was already touching my neck and head. I turned back as I couldn’t proceed. I called my brother to tell him that I couldn’t get to the house. That was when he told me that he was calling her phone but it was no longer going through.

“The water took her away. I went to Niger Republic, precisely Amada Runka, in search of her corpse. We saw the corpses of several persons washed away by the flood scattered in between stones but we couldn’t find her corpse.

Later they called me that they found her corpse in a town called Contini close to Maradi. I wept”.

My 20 months’ old son snatched from my hand by rushing water – Mother

Another victim, Amina, resident in Mai Kwari, said the flood snatched from her hand her 20 months’ old son.
According to her, the baby boy was nowhere to be found.

“I noticed some sound coming from outside my house when the rain was falling. So I rushed out to observe it”, she narrated.

“I was holding my son and my daughter, Najahatu, was in my other hand when the flood dragged me. We fell down and the water took him away. The flood was much. Up till this moment, we are yet to find him.
“My daughter and I narrowly escaped death”.

We cheated death – Ali, 60

Sayyadi Ali, who was met in front of his one-room apartment, was re-arranging properties recovered from the flood.

He narrated how his grandchildren and elder sister who were visiting him and himself escaped death.

“I had to put my grandchildren on a tree to escape. I carried my elder sister on my shoulder to assist her climb the fence of our neighbours because everywhere had been flooded. The flood reduced when the fence leading to the entrance of the house collapsed because the water was trapped in the house and not moving”, Ali said

“See the level of water on the wall. If not for the fact that we hurriedly took that step, we wouldn’t have survived because the water would have submerged us. Look at my height, I am short and see the level the water got to, almost up to the door level”.

My 12-year-old daughter died in an attempt to recover luggage – Isiyaku

Isiyaku Ngogo, a resident of Tudun Turaki, one of the areas worst affected by the flood, said he lost his 12-year-old daughter, Muhusina Ibrahim, in the disaster.

He said his nine other children, however, escaped death. “Initially, we all escaped but my 12-year-old daughter, Muhusina Ibrahim, went back to pack some of our luggage and died in the process. “This is not the first time we experienced this kind of flooding. Some 15 years ago, we experienced similar disaster where six people died.

“Why we can’t relocate from the area is because we can’t afford land in other areas and so we have to live here. But if the government is ready to relocate us, we are ready to relocate”.

We came out alive but couldn’t rescue even a needle – Mother of nine

A mother of nine children, Aisha Bishir, said their family house collapsed as a result of the flood and they couldn’t rescue even a needle.

“Our house collapsed. We, however, thank God that we didn’t lose any family member but some of our neighbours lost their lives and properties,” Aisha said.

When Sunday Vanguard visited the affected areas, officials of Katsina State Environmental Protection Agency, SEPA, were seen fumigating the areas.
Team leader, Nura Abubakar Kankia, said the fumigation was to be carried out in the entire Jibia local government area.

“We are doing the fumigation because of offensive odours and because the water now breeds mosquito among other pests. In fact, the measure is to prevent the outbreak of cholera, etc.

“We urge residents to be conscious of cleanliness of their environment. They should desist from throwing refuse on water ways,” Kankia said.

At the makeshift camp for the IDPs located at the Muhammadu Rabiu Model Primary School Complex, Jibia, several victims of the flood tragedy were seen trooping to see doctors in a clinic provided there.
Officer in charge, Zuladaini Lawal, said majority of those he attended to complained of fever, diarrhea and vomiting.

A representative of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Zakari Abubakar, said they were still profiling the IDPs to ascertain their number and then set up an organized camp.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, Katsina State Emergency Management Authority, SEMA, Dr. Aminu G. Waziri, said relief materials had continued to come in for the displaced persons.

Waziri said international donor agencies were also planning to intervene.
Communities badly affected include Kwata, Dan Tudu Sabuwar, Turaki, Tukare, Tsohuwar Tukare and Ungwar Mai Kwari.

PoliticsHausa, Fulani Flee Attacks From Taraba Militia by yashedabai(op): 10:36am On Jul 07, 2018
Hundreds of residents of Hausa and Fulani extraction were yesterday reported to have fled their villages which came under attack from militia men in Lau LGA of Taraba State.

Our correspondent reports that this came after the militia suspected to be Bachama and Nyandan launched attacks on Fulani villages. Towns and villages attacked by the militia men include Abbare Santuraki, Mayolope and Nnege as well as other Fulani settlements in neighbouring Adamawa State.

Daily Trust gathered that the attackers killed about 20. A victim, Malam Yakubu Dani, said the militia men killed four persons in his village, Santuraki, and set homes on fire.

At Mayolope, another victim, Alhaji Abdulmumuni, told Daily Trust that the militia killed four persons and burned several houses. He said residents were forced to flee the area. The attack in Lau came one month after nine Fulani people were killed by suspected Mumuye tribesmen in Yorro LGA of the state.

A spokesman of the Hausa community, Alhaji Jibo, said the killings were unprovoked, despite the deployment of security agents to the area. He said no arrest was made at the time of gathering the report, even as the attackers moved freely.

Police spokesman, ASP David Misel, said more policemen had been drafted to the area to restore normalcy, adding that he could not immediately give a casualty figure.

PoliticsPlateau Crisis, Conspiracy Against Federal Govt ―bauchi CAN by yashedabai(op): 9:42pm On Jun 28, 2018
BAUCHI state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has declared that the ongoing crises in Plateau state are a conspiracy against the federal government with the intention of throwing the nation into a state of anarchy.

The State Chairman of the Association, Reverend Joshua Ray Miner who stated this during an interview on Wednesday while reacting on the ceaseless attacks in Plateau and some parts of Benue state, attributed the attacks to the handiwork of some saboteurs of the government who are hell-bent on making the country ungovernable, particularly as the 2019 general election was drawing nearer.

While calling on the President, Muhammadu Buhari to come up with stringent measures to checkmate the spate of killings in Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states, the CAN Chairman advised the President to replicate the same feat that was applied in stemming the spate of bombings and killings in Borno and Yobe states.

On the allegation that local Fulani herdsmen in Bororo town of Borno state were behind the series of killings taking place in Plateau and Benue states, the Ray Miner alleged that some politicians who are hungry to seize power at the national level were sponsoring criminals to perpetrate heinous crimes in the Northern part of the country.

He further alleged that “There is a conspiracy somewhere against the federal government and it is this same conspiracy that has opened the borders of northern Nigeria to be infiltrated with criminals from neighbouring countries like Chad, Mali, Niger and Sudan.”

“It is unfortunate that some people are hiding under the disguise of local Fulani herdsmen to perpetrate these killings and from what we are witnessing, they are heading towards the realms of power at the national level,” Ray Miner added.

“If you look at the precision of the killing of innocent citizens and the manner in which these people carry out attacks with the use of swords, guns and knives, you will think it is the ordinary Fulani herdsmen doing the killings, but in the real sense, these people are trained killers who want to throw the country into a state of anarchy,” he said.

PoliticsPlateau Killings: Brave Imam Hides 262 Persons In Mosque From Killer Herdsmen by yashedabai(op): 6:47pm On Jun 28, 2018
A kind-hearted and brave Muslim cleric has saved about 262 person fleeing from some suspected herdsmen who had invaded Nghar Yelwa village in the Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state. Imam did this by hiding the persons in a mosque.

Upon seeing victims fleeing from suspected herdsmen who attacked Nghar Yelwa, a village in Plateau state on Sunday, June 24, an unnamed Imam opened the door of a mosque and hid them.

Amounting to about 262, the persons were running for safety from a neighbouring village in the Barkin Ladi local government area, which was being attacked by gunmen. Although police report claim that only 86 persons died after the attack, villagers insist that the death toll rose beyond 200 victims.

Speaking to Dooshima Abu, a BBC correspondent, concerning the development, the kind-hearted Islamic cleric said: "I hid the women in my personal house and after that, I took the men into the mosque and hid them there"

However, the attackers caught up with the Imam, forcefully demanding him to release to them those who are Christians in the mosque. But the cleric lied to the gang that everyone in the mosque were Muslims. Upon hearing this, the attackers left the Imam and went on with their killing spree elsewhere.

According to newsmen, the mosque is now the home and refuge of those hidden by the Imam. Other Berom natives, including some Muslims residing in Barkin Ladi who escaped the attack, ran to Nghar Yelwa for safety, which is the nearest village

Before now, the Muslim community in the area were in need of where they could build a mosque, and in a gesture of kindness, the Berom natives offered them a piece of land for the same purpose free of charge.

PoliticsThe Genesis Of The Massacre In Plateau by yashedabai(op): 5:52am On Jun 26, 2018
A resident of the crises area Mustapha Gembu took to his Facebook handle to share the root cause of the recent culmination in Plateau State.

The below series of unprovoked attacks by Birom's tribes men on fulanis across Plateau state, incurred the wrath of the herdsmen to take a deadly reprisals attacks across Barikin Ladi LGA of Plateau that resulted to wiping off of 11 Birom's villages across the region.

1. On the 8th of June Four young Fulani men coming back from Kara Cattle market in Bukuru were shot immediately after Kassa Hill Military check point, less than 2Km from the check point.

2. Over 300 COWS were rustled between Fan, Dorowa and Jong Villages of Barkin Ladi LGA and Kadunu/Langai villages of Mangu LGA, when Military were sent to rescue and recover the COWS they received strong resistance from the armed Berom COW rustlers with even reports of some security men losing their lives. Up to date they’ve not been recovered.

3. On 12th of June at around 8pm some Fulani people of Quanpan LGA of plateau State coming back from Bukuru Kara market were shot at Kassa hill before Barikin Ladi LGA secretariat unfortunately one of them lost his life.

4. On June 13th a minor Jaafar Salihu herding his parents COWs, was killed at Nding Village also around Kassa hill and they removed his head till date the head wasn't recovered, he was buried like that.

5. Then the last aggression took place on Jun 21st at about 6pm Some Fulani men Bala, Lawal and Ibrahim Kuwait on their way coming back from Kara market in Bukuru were shot, killed and their vehicle was set ablaze at Heipang village to be precise inside the railway round about, pictures attached.

6. A day after Sallah Jun 16th 2018 at about 14:00 hours some Hausa Boys of Barikin Ladi town driving a Vectra Opel vehicle with reg number JJN 54 CF heading to Mangu LGA narrowly escaped death with minor and major injuries and the car wrecked, as Berom youths launched an attacked on them in front of the Military Check point, what’s their offence? Ans: They are Muslims and the berom youths want to avenge an attack on some villages made by Fulani herders.

7. On Saturday 23rd Jun 2018 the people of Mangu blocked the highway and said nobody is going to pass until justice is done to one of their men that was killed in a Berom community between Dorowa village and Mangu Hale, until his demise he was a butcher and he went to collect his money from one of his customers he gives meat, he was simply killed because he is Muslim and a herdsman?

I strongly condemned this barbaric act of endless committing of heinous crimes against humanity, ending the impunity is the only way out, I urge government to live up it expectations by bring to book any evil perpetrators irrespective of tribe or religion affiliations.

-Mustapha Gembu

PoliticsI Was Acting On Jonathan’s Action Says Dasuki by yashedabai(op): 9:18am On Dec 14, 2015
Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki has said he handed over the N10billion given to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination convention delegates to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs,
Waripamowei Dudafa and the Aide-de-Camp.

He said the money was given out by the two aides, on the directive of Dr.Jonathan.

The former NSA said aside collecting
the cash, he had nothing to do with it. As at press time, no slush funds had
been traced to Dasuki’s personal accounts, it was learnt. Dasuki, who protested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had subjected him to “media trial”, said such a treatment might jeopardise his defence.

Also yesterday, it was gathered that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) confirmed that the N10 billion was sourced from the Signature Bonus Account (oil block Account).

But the ex-NSA expressed regrets that
he was being vilified by the EFCC when he acted on the instructions and approval of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He said he had no foreign account and his local accounts are in Skye bank Plc, GTB and Standard Chartered Bank.

Dasuki’s Statement of Witness/Accused Person has been filed in the
High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of his arraignment today or tomorrow.

He said: “I wish to state as follows:
That I have been publicly indicted and any statement may jeopardise my defence. Having been briefed by the EFCC investigators on why I was invited, I will answer the charges in court. As such, I do not wish to make any further statement on the matter.

“That I am aware in November (I cannot remember the exact date), my office requested the CBN to exchange N10billion from the account of the Office of National Security Adviser domiciled in CBN. The money was exchanged at $47m and some Euros which I cannot remember. The exact amount was delivered at my residence.

“The money was for delegates that attended the nomination convention for the PDP. Presidential nomination.
The money was paid and sent to Hon.
(Waripamowei) Dudafa (SSAP Household) and ADC(C-IC) for distribution on the instruction of the
President.
