^^^ Now the name returns to memory - kickstart(?) At any rate, yep, such can only be used for a version-to-version migration. OP will need to first upgrade to the newer version, based on documentation at joomla.org. A short story that underscores the importance of this thread: Back in the 1.5 days, I did a site for an organization. Fast forward to 2012, I get a distress call from the President saying the site is down and to contact "a very smart guy" who had taken over administration of the site. I googled him and found out he runs an IT firm. No problems or bad belle about that. I just like to know who I am dealing with before I deal with them. As it turns out, bobo tried to do a "migration" but copying from one php file to the other. It was only after he couldn't mess it up any further that he had them call me. Cut a long story short, bobo then asks what would need to be done. I recommended he tell the President to do a redesign (I even stressed that I don't have to be the one to do it. Knowing naija, dem think say dem smart, he he). Besides, the site was mad old anyways. Bobo wanted to "save" money and said he will get back to me. Well as at the time of this posting, the site is still showing the default joomla "under construction" page (going on 6 months now). I dey tell una o! ITK no dey work o, but of course, nobody dey listen. If you no sabi something, just ask. If something sounds extreme, at least ask why and don't brush it aside. I dey laugh o!! |
^^^ I guess it depends on the kinds of strings that OP wants to manipulate |
I am thinking, based on your problem, split may not be the answer. There is a function (i blv it is substr) where you pass in a string and a starting and ending point, and it gives you the exact character(s) at the ending point. Split will give you characters based on a delimiter and return it as arrays. Think again and use the best option. good luck! |
PGON, u c am? OP: Did you upgrade joomla as a whole or as you said, just the modules? You see, you can't just transfer databases, even if it is the same version of joomla. Also, before you do anything of that nature, you should always back up your database, just in case. Moving from 1.x to 2.x is a big deal. There are lots of changes b/w the 2. There is also an app (the name escapes my memory now) that you could have used to manage the migration for you. It might not be a bad idea to perhaps find a way to extract the articles and start all over. Besides, 2.5 is way better than 1.5 Good luck! |
PGON: Thanks for pointing out the bolded portion above. See, from experience over the years, I think I have become a little bit good at deciphering stuff. When I read words like "stubborn" and "unknowingly" and "enabled/disabled", my gut tells me that OP would be better served to start afresh (hopefully he has backup and/or hasn't gone too far) than to start going down the list of enabling and disabling. Think about it. Especially if OP is not starting with a fresh installation, it can be a pretty daunting task to enable/disable stuff. Even if OP opts for doing an "enable/disable" all, that too can be risky as OP may end up making matters worse. OP: Regardless of approach that you use, I hope you find a solution to your problem(s). good luck! |
^^^ Wait o! What happened to "debating infinitely"? ![]() No worries, this wasn't about winning and losing. My point is that there is no one who knows it all, or who should know all. I am woman enough to acknowledge my faults (maybe that is why I get into so much trouble ) and to acknowledge my ignorance.I do want to thank you for not taking the, generally speaking, nigerian route of attacking the person when you can't attack the logic and for not getting this thread to deteriorate into beer parlour conversation. Hopefully many will learn from this Enough said |
http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news-update/nigeria-gets-first-software-incubation-centre/ Nigeria has finally launched the first software incubation centre in Lagos. |
^^^ Then you should have specified. Keep digging. I get shovel plenty plenty ![]() |
I wouldn't use access for anything other than school assignments. mysql and sql server are the way to go. good luck! |
search for "javascript substring". Something should come up that will be of help to you. Good luck! |
It might be time to reset by uninstalling what you have and reinstalling a fresh, latest, version. |
^^^ But you didn't specify that at first. Just in case you try to modify or delete the previous post, let me help remind you of what you wrote earlier in this regard: You may have to know that there is a universal way of pronouncing z. Zee.I think that well you dug for yourself is deep enough though if you think otherwise, keep on digging ![]() |
^^^ Again, universal by whose standards and if it were "universal", why did the British teach us "zed"? |
^^^ I actually have never used print so I guess I need that knock ![]() Again, what is basic to you is not basic to someone else. Universal basic includes the alphabets. Non-universal basics is, for instance, how to pronounce "z ("z" or "zed" . It's all "tom-ay-to"/"tom-ah-to" to me. |
^^^ Actually I went for a long time not knowing about link, visit, hover, active, focus too ![]() Dude, sorry, but with me, and as open-minded as I am, you won't be winning this debate. Maybe with someone else. Again, just because you were taught (self or otherwise) by a super genius doesn't mean everyone had the same opportunities. There are tons of stuff I don't know and when I encounter them, I google for it, find it, use it and store it in my subconscious. It is impossible to know all the "must know" stuff. Even the best of us doesn't know it all (though they won't tell you that ) |
@Graphics I don't belong to the school of thought that says there are things that everyone must know. Sure, you may know it but you can't apply it to everyone else. Again, I state that there are things that as you said, you "must know" that you don't know. You don't have to admit it here. By the way, who defines things that go in the "must know" area? In general, I always have a reset.css. Then I add necessary padding/margin where necessary. In 20 years, I have never heard of or used "justify". Does this make me less of a developer? Does this mean now that I have heard of it, I won't experiment with it or use it? Of course, the answers to these is "no". |
^^^ Again, I say, no, I haven't. I also knew a DBA with over 20 years of experience who failed the MCDBA exam twice. Does that make the person stupid? I have never used it and I have never heard of it and though I don't recall how, I am sure I have encountered this problem and solved it in my own way. I guess if this were an interview question, I would have failed the question and thus the job opportunity. Coming to think of it, do you know every single nuance of css and html? Be careful with your answer ![]() |
^^^ This isn't the first time I have formed a post in this manner. I will hold my thoughts till I hear a few others. |
The US has people suffering within its borders yet it sends foreign aid to other countries. Why? National interest. Sure, we have high unemployment but that is no reason not to have a virtual door into our country. Nice effort on the part of the FG but: 1) In a country where most of the people surf with mobile devices, it would have made sense if they made the site responsive 2) I enter the url but it forwards me to swp.com.ng - why? 3) When I search for info on visas, I get "forwarded" to the immigration website - break in consistency - why? Considering our tendency to pay out millions for cronyism work, I will not provide any more reviews other than what I have above, for free ![]() |
@all I didn't know about justify and I have been coding websites since 1999. What does that make me? ![]() There are plenty of ways to skin a cat. If I don't use justify and I can use myriads of other properties. |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/04/zuckerberg-facebook-founder-to-visit-aibom/ Uyo – Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is to visit Akwa Ibom in next month, the Niger Delta Young Professionals, a non governmental group, has said. |
^^^ Remember me in paradise o, he he |
Folks, let's not let this thread fall a victim of "beer parlor" conversation. Let's stay on point... |
Perhaps we can compare and contrast sites within the same genre, with the aim of educating each other on best practices and on what not to do. Maybe this could be in the form of a "competition" - knowing how popular NL is, maybe the owners of such sites (especially in the government space) would take note of such threads and make the necessary improvements on their sites. |

@omni Abi o! In some other countries, that site would have garnered some kind of a response. It makes me believe what I have heard about the NFF not being happy with Nigeria going all the way during tournaments so that they can claim the balance of the money for themselves. |
