You will need to get your mail server from your web host and add that to outlook. If I am not mistaken, for the outgoing server part, you will need to choose "secure connection" when entering the server name there. A quick google/youtube search should suffice here. good luck! |
It depends on the amount and frequency of updates. 10K/month at a barest minimum sounds about right for small weekly updates though, IMHO. Your best bet would be to be put on retainer so that regardless of whether you make changes to the site, you still get paid. I usually tell my clients that this is a cheaper option as, when I am on a retainer it means that if you need something done, I attend to you first. Good luck! |
After you have created a subdomain, visit http://mobiledetect.net/ for a mobile detection script, assuming you're using php Good luck! |
^^^ Dual has pretty much said it all - bad business model(s). Throw in a user base that is suffering from a combination of lack of steady power supply, low/expensive bandwidth, high unemployment, etc etc and I am not surprised. You could also probably add our (generally speaking) goal of making money first attitude (as opposed to building something that people will flock to for life) while you're at it. Truth be told, those online businesses that do thrive need to be commended. I bet cost of operations is very high, given the above. |
Most importantly, did you notice that this new, as well as other similar ones, works only in webkit browsers (as in, not IE)? He he, progressive enhancement at work. |
1) Just looked at the mobile version. Yes it loads super fast and is a different experience but I am sure you could spruce things up by adding at the very least, a background color. Borrow a leaf from the likes of Amazon. 3) But of course, that is why it is loading forever on the desktop. Mind you, I was only focusing on the css and js files. There are also images and html code to consider. Visit the following site and run an analysis on your site, to gain some perspective: http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/ 5) I understand you but what if those 2 "insignificant" people happen to be the ones with millions of naira to spend while the other 8 are just browsing? Hopefully you get what I am trying to say. |
^^^ Your US one is the kicker! LOL. So they are now saying it is cheaper to get it done in the US? Interesting, he he |
^^^ Yep, a critique goes beyond what your client will see. It also involves what they don't see...the very foundational blocks that could lead to, among others, extra server processing time, too many server hits, bloated code, etc. |
1) In a country where a majority use their mobile devices for browse the web, I am curious as to how it will pull up on one, including load time 2) Is your search working? I typed, "hello" and "a" and got results each time 3) Way too many CSS and JS calls. Again, think of your global audience and in general, the fact that as your site gets busy, you will be tasking your server big time 4) Code doesn't validate - a lot of non-matching html elements 5) The number at the top: Yes I know it is a phone number, but how many others know this? It wouldn't hurt to put up a phone icon next to it. |
Firstly, you should NEVER discuss overcharging or undercharging with a customer. That is between, you and yourself. If the latter, you live and learn for another day. There was a client I was doing SEO for about 2 years ago. I would write 1 article a month and submit to at least 10 article submission sites. I think I charged him $100 per month, so I don't think your 20K, if you can pry it from the client, is farfetched. Good luck! |
Hopefully you didn't get infected with a worm to boot ![]() |
I use Firefox all the way. As far as website, IMHO, due to lack of a layout border, it looks like the different pieces of the site (especially the home page) are hanging in space. |
@AFOLSNETWORK Sorry for the delayed response. Because of the new NL layout, I find it hard sometimes to concentrate on the post listings and so might miss stuff once in a while. How do I handle them? It all depends. At the end of the day, I want there money. That's how I pay my bills. I am therefore willing to be insulted to an extent. For the most part, I will set the bar very high so that even when they come down, I am still on top. For those who want to partner, I politely tell them that I can't do that, based on past experience. For those who say they will send me referrals, I just laugh internally cos from my own experience, less than 10% usually live up to their promises. |
^^^ This covers all nationalities, from my experience. The quest to be cheap e no get bias o, he he |
^^^ Thanks for reminding me of some more. Your #2 in particular, rings true from my experience as well: 1) "We are a non-profit organization. As you know, this means that we don't have money starting out and have to sometimes dip into our own pockets for the initial cost" 2) I once was invited by a client, a university professor, to his house. Upon arrival, he ushered me into his library. Once discussions began, he asked, "do you see those books over there (he points to a line of books on HTML), I have read all of. I know what to do to create a website. I just don't have the time to do it." Ye ye man, I charge am double ![]() Please keep them coming. I am enjoying what I am reading so far. This might bring upon the much needed stress relief that we need in this area ![]() |
Here are a couple of reasons I have heard over the years: 1) "Let us partner. Whatever money the site makes, you will get 50%. After all, you are the expert" 2) "Don't worry, I know many people. I will refer you to them. Just treat me well and you will get tons of business from me" What have you been told? |
^^^ Definitely but compared to the official site, at least there is something on there. I guess that's my bigger point. In other words, you would think that all those sites would be run by one department, in which case our official website should take priority, with a link to this centenary site on there. |
https://www.nigeriacentenary.com.ng/ So have a website for the centenary but not for our official web presence (nigeria.gov.ng)? Na wa o! |
My understanding of this post is that the site already existed and OP is trying to earn some business by recommending a redesign. Regardless, if the site is a busy one and hasn't been touched for at least 2 years, I would say a redesign is in order. When going about it, consider: 1) Audience: Include mobile in the audience. I don't see anything on the site that caters to mobile 2) Performance: The product images are being forced to a certain size. Why not use the size you are forcing it to fit? This would reduce bandwidth significantly 3) Search: Doesn't seem to work 4) Accessibility and Usability: Title tags, alt tags, etc should be in use 5) Code refactoring: A lot of the code isn't semantic 6) SEO: The source code doesn't look SEO-friendly Good luck! |
Keep clicking o, he he. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2013/02/07/san-jose-official-backs-plan-for-new-google-airport/ San Jose should accept an offer by a major airport operator to build an $82 million private airport for executives of Google Inc. at Mineta San Jose International Airport, a city official said. Signature Aviation, a British firm, wants to construct an executive terminal, hangars and ramp space “accommodating the largest business jets” for Mountain View-based Google at the San Jose airport, William Sherry, the city’s director of aviation, wrote in a memo. |
I could have sworn this was asked somewhere else. All the same: 1) Create your landing page 2) Create a thumbnail image (maybe 100x100 or 200x200) 3) Write your code like so (this is just a sample. there are 101 ways to skin a cat. indent your code. move all css to an external stylesheet): <div style="float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0; border: 5px solid #fff;"> <a href="link to actual gallery page"> <img src="thumbnail1.jpg" style="display: block;" border="0" width="100" height="100" /> Nairaland Party 2013 </a> </div> <br style="clear: both;" /> -> This line would only occur AFTER your last DIV-enclosing thumbnail, and NOT after each DIV. 4) Your actual gallery page would then display all the images in your slideshow and you can do whatever it is you want to do, to display the bigger images |
1) Now I am confused ![]() 2) You could probably whip something up yourself, without resorting to a script...or see how that site did theirs. If you go with your own code, you just: a) Have the text boxes b) absolutely position the images over the text c) use jquery's animate/slide functions to move the images away from over the text (perhaps a slidetoggle would work here) Note: I am merely thinking out loud. I am not saying it won't work but without coding it, I can't guarantee that it will. |
Assuming this is the right url: http://missnigeria.org.ng/ I saw an ad for the upcoming Miss Nigeria competition and decided to check the site out. I got what you will see, assuming it isn't fixed by the time you get to this thread. Hint: E b like say fine babes no fit do math, he he Na so dem wan take start competition? ![]() |
1) I don't quite understand what is needed, but 2) Try lightbox good luck! |
where were you? ![]() |
1) Yes 2) Domain name is like the name your parents gave you at birth. You take it everywhere you go. No one can take it away from you. Hosting is like the house where you live. Some might have a fan, some might be white etc etc. Whereas you can change houses every day, you can't change your name like that. Make sense? 3) Google should be of help here. Just do something like "Free download (name of book goes here)". Of course, beware of viruses ![]() Good luck! |
1) This is a site that I always refer to, for responsive web design (RWD) inspiration: http://mashable.com/ 2) Responsive Design and background images: http://elliotjaystocks.com/blog/better-background-images-for-responsive-web-design/ - I will probably be learning from you as I have just started reading up on RWD. I am currently reading up on OOCSS. After I am done, I will move on to RWD. 3) Given that mobile device browsers are generally webkit (with the exception of windows phone...but who cares for them, right? ), I would say you have browsers that support CSS3 covered.Good luck, and do share what you've learned. |
^^^ and who said anything about being jobless? For all I know and care, you probably are more well off than I am...and guess what? I am perfectly okay with that. All I am saying is there are more important issues to discuss here. Does your post belong on this forum? sure. But IMHO, not on this board. #justSaying |
1) I concur with soloqy 2) I think the black background needs to go. B/w that and the animations, it looks more like a techno disco site (no offense) 3) If you don't have a portfolio, don't display it. No need having "coming soon" thumbnails. I would rather have 2 portfolios than 100, with 98 being "coming soon" |
^^^ But u sabi naija now. we think say we dey smart. We wan hire one 10K "webmaster" to do everything, from design to database to content then we wonder why a majority of the work we produce is sub-par. |
With all the issues we are facing like "webmasters" charging 10K per website among others, unless OP is Seun in disguise, who cares about who is richer than who? You better start thinking and acting for yourself. |
