Do at least 2 things and report back: 1) where you have "=", replace with ":" in your CSS attributes 2) remove the heights, see if you get an overflow, after doing #1 above and if not, add back the height(s) |
1 of 2 things are at play here. Either: 1) They have seen what happened at that company where thousands of people showed up for a job and want people to weed themselves out OR 2) The person who came up with the ad is in Human Resources and heard, "we need a programmer" and not being technical, probably googled and copied/pasted what you see there. From a naija factor perspective, I would go with #1. From a personal experience perspective, I would go with #2: Back in 2000, I remember a job ad asking for 10 years of experience in ASP 1.0. The problem with the ad was that ASP was barely a year old at the time. Obviously, a technical person wasn't in responsible for creating that ad ![]() |
^^^ I take it you understand that if you make any modification to the template of any kind, that that qualifies as hand coding, right? Perhaps what you should have said it endeavor to code hand code from scratch? Now, that I am fully in support of ![]() |
@mrsmithkay Even your body is a template so I don't personally see anything wrong in using one. Perhaps the terms of agreement for the template says OP can't take out the notification? I've dealt with such templates before. Depending on the client a template, paid or free, can come in handy, depending on client's budget, what they want to accomplish and time constraints as well as the knowledgebase of both the client and the developer. The important thing is that the client is happy with the work and that the developer not only take a template as-is but at least attempt to make certain changes to it, not only as a test of understanding but for the future as well. |
If you have already learned and mastered OOCSS and Responsive Web Design, I would say there is not much else there is to learn, as far as CSS is concerned. At this point, you can choose to either read up on specs for later releases or just like with the Bible (assuming you are a christian), read over what you think you know again so as to be "spritually" fortified against "the evil one" ![]() Good luck! |
^^^Whatever you want to call it, I guess you missed my point. Sorry for not making it clear: He is a public servant, a very highly-placed one at that, and given his role, should he be running a news website or if indeed a blog, should he be running an opinionated blog given his position. Also, here's the greater point: Does that website/blog, given how it looks and functions, reflect positively on him as the owner, again, given his current position? Have you gone through the site or you are just commenting for commenting sake? I mean, before posting I ran a search on the site and it returned me to the home page. After you've tested the site, match what you've discovered versus my recently posted article about how the FG is wasting billions on sites (for the "gotcha" crowd, yes I know that Abati is operating this website as a private individual and the FG has no hand in it) that are not even up to date. Hopefully, you are getting the bigger picture by now ![]() |
^^^Hmmm, I would be careful about positioning stuff. Besides, if you want to do position relative, you may still need your "top/bottom" and "left/right" attributes, no? |
http://allafrica.com/stories/201301310404.html Despite spending billions of naira on information technology last year, most Federal ministries and agencies lack active websites, Daily Trust investigations have shown. For more: http://allafrica.com/stories/201301310404.html |

How can you cash out when they are the ones to give you a check based on when you have met the threshold, or am I missing something? In my case, my account area says my payment will be processed on feb. 1st. Let's hope they stick to their words ![]() |
1) Responsive design: Follow twhat Raylight just said (there are other ways but you can stick with his for now) 2) Develop a web app: Not advisable as you will have to code for various phones and update accordingly 3) Develop a website using a library like jQueryMobile: Better than coding from scratch but it usually comes with its own (large) files which may be a bandwidth issue good luck! |
^^^ If true, that is naija for you. r u surprised all of a sudden? ![]() |
Watz d difference b/w review and preview? If it is what I think it is, then thanks for the preview. I wish you and the restaurant well. |

I got this in my email this morning: Dear adBrite Publisher,What other ad networks are out there, other than google (which I got banned from about 3 years ago, hence my switch to adbrite )? |
^^^ as female as Eve was in the garden of Eden. Yes, I did ask for them and I knew some of the things you were gonna throw out. I just wanted to get our creative and logical juices going, that's all. Just because someone says it can't be done doesn't necessarily mean that that's the case ![]() |
I will answer both your last posts at once since they are related: This "issue" hasn't really been an issue for me, which is why I was asking for clarification. Any web developer should know to clear their floats immediately after floating. This is called defensive coding. It's just like when you are driving a car on the road - you don't (or shouldn't at least) expect the person next to you to hit you but you should drive as though they will. Always code defensively and you should be good to go. |
Hmm, looks like you lifted these from somewhere and not based on your personal experience #justSaying ![]() 1) I currently use IE9 and haven't seen a problem with floating 2) Same as #1 3) Why would your users turn on compatibility mode if you have added a proper doctype? 4) Explain 5) Failing to see how this, technically, is a problem 6) I haven't experimented much with this (because I use the pie.htc plugin) so I will concede to you on this one. Overall though, IE9 has improved but yes, it does have its problems. Having said that, I would still insist that any serious web developer should dump IE6 when developing websites. I dumped IE6 in 2007 and haven't regretted or looked back since ![]() |
Bank website no be beans. To whoever gets it, make sure you have a total security detail for the site. good luck! |
^^^ Oh yeah? List them please. |
zynzyn: I am a web developer (as in CSS, XHTML, JavaScript and PHP/JSP) and not a designer (as in PhotoShop, Firweworks, etc). If you still want to partner on jobs, YIM me at yawatide so we can talk more. |
Given the time it takes to resolve IE6 bugs and the fact that even MSFT is campaigning for people to stop using IE6, I would strongly advise any serious web developer to stop coding for IE6 |
which banner? If i understand what you mean, then joomla's code will group stuff like banners into "positions". Either you find that position on the admin side and change it there or you go into the template code and either delete that position's reference or replace it with a hardcoded path to a banner of your own. good luck! |
go on |
I don't claim to be a PHP expert but it doesn't look like your code below is correct at all. For one, you shouldn't be checking for cookie(auth) but cookie($cookie_name) - you assigned cookie_name the value of "auth". Why not look at this simple tutorial, build from there, then do more advanced stuff: http://www.tizag.com/phpT/phpcookies.php good luck! |
^^^ How long did the fermentation process take? ![]() |
I guess we now know why the site wasn't looking good the other day - they were implementing a redesign. I don't particularly like it, compared to their last 2 versions though, but I guess I'm stuck with it as I like their news. It will take time to get used to it, that's for sure. |
^^^ I think this has to do with the web developers not educating the folks who actually populate the content that even with a CMS, you can, like MS word, resize images that you copy and paste. |
