Phones / Should BlackBerry Phone Be Banned In Nigeria? by Yaya6: 12:51pm On Aug 24, 2012
Some people feels that end should be put to the use of BB in nigeria due to the fact that it is causing more harms than good. What is ur view?

It will be unfair and totally an act of ingratitude for one not to appreciate the ingenuity of those behind the invention of Blackberry. Their effort towards unifying the world and simplifying man’s work through the use of the smart phone cannot be appreciated enough.

I have been inspired by one of our prolific writers, Rita Okoye who recently wrote on how young ladies engage young men in a relationship through the use of blackberry phone. In her write-up, Rita carefully expunged how these girls play their game in the most disapproving way. Her write-up did not only open my eyes to the extent these desperate girls could go in their search for money, husband and connection, but was an eye opener to the general evil associated with the use of that witty machine called blackberry . In this article, I will slightly disagree with Rita who held unto one side of her argument without necessarily looking at the angle where the men also got it wrong and become guilty as well as the ladies.

I have looked at several arising issues in this modern day Nigeria. I have seen that Nigerians are real extremists in so many things. I have weighed the importance attached to one’s Blackberry phone and one’s wife, and the difference is clear. I have also weighed the difference between one’s food on the table and the smart phone, and the difference is obvious. It really doesn’t matter whether your wife is falling into a pit, so long as a man can hold on to his blackberry phone, there is no problem. It doesn’t matter if a man stays awake throughout the night viewing display pictures of his contacts so long as some naughty pictures are displayed and some of the girls are willing to send their nude pictures to satisfy him. It doesn’t matter if a man drives into a pit or into another car so long as he responds to chats while he moves on the road. These are some of the things that are possible while using a blackberry mart phone.

Politics / Re: Oshiomhole Rubbishes Police Investigation Of Oyerinde's Killing,praises S S S by Yaya6: 9:52am On Aug 16, 2012
"Mr. Oshiomhole said on Wednesday he was satisfied more with the work done by the SSS, but urged a federal panel of independent investigators to reconcile the disparity.
“Like every other Nigerian,” Mr. Oshiomhole said in a statement by his spokesperson, Peter Okhiria, “the governor is extremely worried about the claims of two federal security agencies, which, no matter what anyone says, at the end of the day, one of the arms must clearly be playing out a script designed to shield the actual killers and/or their sponsors and it fits into the unenviable record of unresolved politically-motivated murder cases in the country…”

Basically you cant compare the SSS and Police in their of operations.I observed that the SSS takes time to get to the root of an issue before reacting but unlike or police that takes decisions and actions haphazardly. Irrespective of that the efforts of the Nigerian police towards ensuring peace in our society cannot in no mention be overemphasized, but there is need for them to all always ensure they take considerable measure in addressing issues in their hands, that could aid their professionalism.
Sports / Holyfield Under Arrest by Yaya6: 2:59pm On Aug 15, 2012
Heavyweight boxing legend, Evander Holyfield, was under a lovely arrest in London on Saturday when his fans from different parts of the world unendingly requested that he took photographs with them.

It was at the magnificent 02 Arena Dome, Greenwich, South East London, hours to the end of the Olympic Games. As soon as each of the people that had trooped to the centre spotted him, they ran to him and whispered into his ears their desire to have him in their albums. It was a very accommodating Holyfield that posed with each folk – old and young. Over 10 minutes after the first person discovered him, the crowd was still surging for the same exercise. Yet, Holyfield did not feel offended.

When we are insisting that the most sensible thing to do is to split Nigeria, some people are calling us names.

Nigeria can never have a true census: the North will never allow it.

Politics / North Is The Majority, Any Denial Will Lead To Anarchy by Yaya6: 9:14am On Aug 13, 2012
Moves by the National Assembly to further amend the 1999 Constitution has  again  brought to the fore the sharp division and mutual distrust between the North and South, as both have taken opposing views on the entrenchment of the six geopolitical zones in the constitution.

The North said it represented 60 per cent of the country’s population, and therefore, would resist efforts to equate it with the South, which it claimed represented just 40 per cent of Nigeria.

It added that any attempt to deny the majority its position on the matter would lead to anarchy.

The Convener of Concerned Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Juniad Mohammed, said these in an exclusive interview with one of our correspondents on Friday.

The Northern Governors Forum had similarly opposed the inclusion of geopolitical zones in the constitution, just as Arewa Consultative Forum scoffed at the suggestion.

Mohammed said, “When some people insist that 60 per cent of the population must be made equal with the remaining 40 per cent, I don’t understand it. In the last census in 2006, the North-West was 37 million, while Ohaneze’s South-East was 15 million. How do you equate the two of them?

“Democracy is a game of numbers. Any attempt to deny the majority would result in anarchy. From the records of the census that have been conducted in this country, it is obvious that the North constitutes at least 60 per cent of Nigeria’s population.

“They’ve been trying to do this since and now they want do it through the back door by putting it into the constitution. I say it will never happen. Geopolitical zones will never be accepted in the constitution no matter what it takes. North and South are not equal and we can never be equal,” he said.

The President-General, Chief Ralph Uwechue, however, said the current concept of six geopolitical zones was ethnically based, with three zones accorded to the larger ethnic groups while the three other zones were derived from smaller ethnic units.

He explained that this made for political balance and stability.

He said, “The simple lesson from this structural arrangement is that the ethnic units are recognised and accepted as the veritable building blocks in the ongoing construction work and nation-building process in Nigeria.

“We are now saying that the six geopolitical zones of today should inherit the same powers and responsibility the three zones had at that time.

“What it means is that these six zones will become the federating units of Nigeria and any other arrangement each region wants to make will be entirely left for the zones.”

“This is the best thing that can happen to this country right now.

“Our position is that we should have six regions coinciding with the current six geopolitical zones and having the same powers and responsibility as were given to the regions at independence.

“The difference is that instead of three regions at independence, we now have six regions.”

According to the Ohaneze chairman, the northern governor’s refusal to allow the inclusion of the zones in the constitution was a way of perpetuating the autocratic military distortion of the master plan, (political arrangement) which produced Nigeria in 1960.

Politics / GEJ Has Done Nothing To Warrant His Impeachment - Akpabio by Yaya6: 10:20am On Aug 09, 2012
Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Godswill Akpabio yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan has not committed any impeachable offence.

Besides, the governor who is from the South South region assured that the planned impeachment exercise process of the President by the House of Representatives lawmakers would be an exercise in futility.

Akpabio also criticized those asking the President to resign over the insecurity challenges facing the country, saying Jonathan is capable enough to address the Boko Haram treat.

He noted that as long as the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] enjoyed the majority seats at the lower chamber, it would be difficult to remove the President.

It will be called that the lower chambers members have given the September to fully implement the 2012 budget or face impeachment.

The governor spoke to reporters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while returning from an Investment Summit in the United States on Tuesday night.

According to him, “the President has not committed any impeachable offence. “I am not a member of the National Assembly but I can tell you that the PDP, which I belong, has majority in the National Assembly and the party representatives has no intention to support any plan or intention to impeach Mr. President. Any right thinking politician will know that there is nothing in the offing that will warrant the impeachment plot. There is no reality in that rumour.”

Defending the President on the issue of insecurity in the country, the governor described the Boko Haram members as a faceless set of people, who indulged in mischief under the guise of religion.

He said the President has the capacity to address the crisis.

According to him, the group would soon surrender their arms because as Nigerians, they also want to witness peace.

He said: “Who are the members of the Boko Haram? When we see Boko Haram members, we will discuss with them because as far as I am concerned, we still have a lot of people masquerading under Boko Haram to send a lot of mischief text messages, information, among others. Mr. President has the apparatus of government to know truly who is a Boko Haram member and who is not.

“ I am sure that he is taking the right security steps to address their feelings and I am very sure that very soon, Boko Haram will lay down their arms because they are Nigerians and they would like to see peace.”

Akpabio said Nigerians believe in secularity, saying the issue of Islamisation  of the country is being sponsored by those backing the dreaded Islamic group

He said: “The rumour about Islamisation of Nigeria is being orchestrated by people who are hiding under Boko Haram to cause crisis. It happened in the Niger Delta when we had militants and all sorts of people claiming to be Boyloaf, Tompolo and others.

“It was only after the amnesty was declared that these kingpins under militancy came around and people saw them. They were people who were being used; some people were paying money to these people who called themselves militant warlords in the Niger Delta. They were not and clearly speaking, a lot of 419 and a lot of youths are trying to take advantage of the situation and trying to be Boko Haram.

“So, there is no truth about that; I just want to allay your fears. Don’t allow people to deceive you that they want to Islamise Nigeria. No! Nigerians believe in their secularity and the strength of this country is in our plurality and I am very happy and proud to be a Nigerian. Once the grievances of the Boko Haram sect are addressed, I am sure they will also be very happy to lay down their arms for the betterment of this country. Don’t listen to that rumour, that rumour is just baseless. “

Politics / ICPC To Prosecute Lawan For Alleged $620,000 Bribery by Yaya6: 6:02am On Aug 07, 2012
Barring any last minute change, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other- related offences  Commission will  in the next few days file criminal charges against  former Chairman, House of Represensatives, Ad hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy Management, Farouk Lawan,  and a civil servant, Boniface Emenalo.

The two accused persons are to be arraigned before a Federal High Court for bribery and corruption as well as for destruction of evidence.

Both men are to be prosecuted for allegedly receiving $620,000 bribe from the Chairman, Zenon Oil & Gas, Femi Otedola, on April 23.

Our correspondent  learnt  that the police had concluded their investigations and had  forwarded the  report to the Attorney-General of the Federation for directives.

According to sources,  the police are   awaiting instructions from the AGF.

It was learnt that the  ICPC was saddled with  the task of prosecuting the suspects  because of their status.

“The police have submitted their report to higher authorities and are awaiting further directives; we believe the ICPC will file charges against the accused persons and we pray they will carry out the prosecution diligently because we have given them a water-tight report,” a source said on Monday.

It was learnt that the ICPC might call  on the investigators as prosecution witnesses in a case that is expected to be seriously contested by Lawan’s lawyers.

The  absence of the bribe money is believed to be a vital point for the lawyers, but sources said the police had plugged this loophole in their  investigation with the audio recording of the exchange between Lawan and Otedola.

Lawan’s admission to detectives that he collected the alleged bribe “to expose Otedola”  was said to be a strong evidence that proved that he was criminally culpable.

What's follows the prosecution?

A pastor should be committed to the well-being of his member spiritually. Preach and win souls for God. He is a shephard and not a political analyst. How can I dress up to church to hear word of God and it turns to political studies.

In a church where souls are meant to be won has finally turned into a house of political jingles and jamboree.Am sure that people are not attending this church for salvation again rather to discuss politics.

Politics / Northern Governors To Control Commissioner Of Police by Yaya6: 9:56am On Aug 01, 2012
The quest by governors of the 36 states to push for the removal of the police from the exclusive list has suffered a setback. The Goverors also called for a revisiting of the Off shore on shore dichotomy even as the Arewa Consultative Forum argued that Off shore revenues should not be included in the computation of derivation to the oil producing states.

The 19 northern states governors on Friday opted to drop the demand for state police which has long been a major clamour of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.

They have rather called for some reforms that would ensure the governors are able to exercise ample control over the commissioners of police in their states. The northern governors also insisted that the immunity clause for president, vice president, governors and deputy governors as contained in section 308 of the 1999 constitution as amended be retained.

Now the question is, should the Federal Government allows such power to be give to the State Governors, then what will be the end result? Is it a welcome idea

Something need to be be done urgently about the cattle drovers before it turned into another menace.
