Secret U.S. government documents reveal that JPMorgan Chase, HSBC and other big banks have defied money laundering crackdowns by moving staggering sums of illicit cash for shadowy characters and criminal networks that have spread chaos and undermined democracy around the world.
The records show that five global banks — JPMorgan, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank and Bank of New York Mellon — kept profiting from powerful and dangerous players even after U.S. authorities fined these financial institutions for earlier failures to stem flows of dirty money.
U.S. agencies responsible for enforcing money laundering laws rarely prosecute megabanks that break the law, and the actions authorities do take barely ripple the flood of plundered money that washes through the international financial system.
In some cases the banks kept moving illicit funds even after U.S. officials warned them they’d face criminal prosecutions if they didn’t stop doing business with mobsters, fraudsters or corrupt regimes.
JPMorgan, the largest bank based in the United States, moved money for people and companies tied to the massive looting of public funds in Malaysia, Venezuela and Ukraine, the leaked documents reveal.

Buhari is a man that has sworn to Protect the interests of the masses and make their votes count. PMB is best thing that ever happened to this country. SMH, Z0mbie! |

Shallowpenguin: I'm no fan of the government, but regarding power, they can't do much. Not since power got privatized
What they are doing, by raising the prices, is by allowing discos and gencos to charge above the cost of production so at least they start making profits, and as a result, start investing in more improved power infrastructure...which should lead to better power supply.
We were paying N20-30 per kwh fr something that cost 53 naira per kwh to produce. Meaning discos and gencos were not making a profit. And thus, no money to make improvements, and thus no light. Government was taking loans to help cover the deficit, which even then were not enough. Very stupid excuse! APC could have revoked the power assets owners' licenses and do a re-privatization to those who have the capacity to manage and expand the assets! But they refused to do so, because of fear of military coup due to some strong Nigerian individuals owning some of the power assets! |

Those Nigerians who truly feel compassion for the helpless and spend their time, energy and resources helping helpless and hopeless Nigerians for free. I had thought the last one was Chief Gani Fawehinmi. We don't have genuine human rights lawyers anymore, what we have are human rights politicians and businessmen.
Anyway, expose our dear nairaland barrister, give us his username, so that we as a family can also thank him. Many people here might even need his expert legal services. I need his services too! Gotta admit! |

https://www.nairaland.com/6124023/please-advice-babe-got-arrested/8
First and foremost, I want to say thanks to the Nairaland Family.
I got a call from a well meaning Nairalander early this morning, who is a lawyer and he offered me his services free of charge. And after much ado we managed to see the dpo and a meeting was set with the late guy's family.
The guy's family members kept threatening to deal with me right in front of the dpo while the meeting was going on. Their beef with me was that I brought the issue to nairaland and my lawyer was forced to tell me to leave. He however promised to come to a resolution on the matter today.
He was true to his word. Around 3pm, I was called back to see the dpo and my babe and her workers were released.
Still they refused to tell us the results of their investigations on the excuses that's it's an ongoing investigation and my babe may still likely be called in for questioning. All they said was that an autopsy was done and it was conclusive that he wasn't poisoned. This autopsy was done since last week, and when we asked them why they refused to release my girlfriend and her workers when they knew she was innocent, they gave us flimsy excuses about ensuring she is really innocent beyond reasonable doubt.
I'm not allowed to say more about this whole saga as I was warned off. But I thank God anyway, she is out. And I thank you all.
Big thanks to Barrister George. I'm glad there are still people like you in this country. God bless you richly.
I also want to say a big thanks to those people who called me or tried to reach me to proffer help. Nairalanders, I hail o! |
