BusinessRe: Crude Oil Price Crash: Why Has Dangote Not Reduced His Fuel Prices? by yemre: 9:59am On Apr 19
nairalanda1:
no

Subsidy made it difficult for other people to set up refineries back when Dangote was starting his own.

Because of the price controls inherent in subsidy no bank or financial lender would lend money to anyone with a refinery licence. The fact that subsidy was not going to go back then would have made building a refinery high risk

Dangote was able to get loans from the banks and even from CBN because at the end of the day, he had other lucrative businesses and assets. Had he defaulted on his loans because of subsidy price controls limiting his profits potentially, the lender's would have taken over his other businesses and repaid themselves.

That's why subsidy removal back in 2012 or even 1993 would have benefited Nigeria. It would have made lending to refinery licence owners easier because now banks know they would have seen their money back
What a very smart response sir. When I school some of our people on this issue of subsidy removal, most of them call me names, as if they're the only one bearing the consequences of this subsidy removal. I got to know about this subsidy as far back as 2003 when Obasanjo first mulled the idea and I foresaw some positivity in it as someone just coming up because I knew it would get to this.

It's hard tho but there will never be a perfect time.

Now that subsidy is gone and there are no semblance of ever coming back, our rich business moguls should approach their banks, make the bold move and rescue the country. It's a large market and definitely whoever invests in the sector would not regret it.

Lafarge, Bua, Mangal are all producing cement yet cement prices keep going up. There is something wrong with Nigeria regulators in cement and petroleum industry. That guy that was blocking Dangote tendencies was blackmailed by Dangote to resign, now he is having a free ride in increasing prices of petroleum products. Using AGO as a case study, before the war when crude oil was 71$ and exchange rate 1400, AGO was 1000#, now that crude oil is just 100$, AGO should not be more than 1400# at same exchange rate; it does not make economic sense at all that AGO is at 1900. Dangote is ripping off the local market regardless of the war.
Very good point bro. BUA, Mangal and even lafarge are relatively unpopular in the market as much as Dangote. That simply means they are not competing enough. This could be in form of marketing, awareness or even product durability and quality. But the leverage remains the lack of stiff competition both in cement and petroleum products.

It's the major reason I would not discourage fuel importation despite having a local refinery because it's not just enough for effective pricing.
BusinessRe: Crude Oil Price Crash: Why Has Dangote Not Reduced His Fuel Prices? by yemre: 6:41am On Apr 19
Well, the op is right to a large extent. However, I still wouldn't blame Dangote. He's a business man.

Why is it that, of all the people that have been given the license to build refineries, none of them have started anything?

Dangote could do this freely just because there are no stiff competition from anywhere despite being the 6th largest oil producing country in the world.

Imagine having about 10 other refineries of same magnitude or even bigger, scattered around the country, why would he not comply?

It's not as if we don't have people who have such money to build but the greed and the immediate gain mentality would not allow us do the right thing.

...and as a result, we all bear the consequences of our inactions.

CrimeRe: Our Records Show Murder Suspect As ‘Matthew Chukuemeka Adebiyi’ - UK Police by yemre: 7:37am On Apr 18
Crime has no tribe. Be it Igbo or Yoruba or any other tribe, a criminal remains a criminal, and he who can do the crime has voluntarily shown the willingness to do the time.

So he committed murder and ran back to Nigeria, thinking he's now insulated from the consequences of actions? How wrong he was.

That is why I have always told people, live right, be careful what you do and what you put out there. So long as you live on this planet Earth, you are never unreachable. You can only get away with it if they don't think it is what their time. But if they have your time, you will be sorry.

Roads are getting better across Nigeria, but they are small and tiny roads. These roads are very tiny. If you want to open up towns, build wider roads and train tracks. These widths of roads could have made sense in 1954. Today is 2026! You are building roads for the next 50 years and not for the past 40 years. There will always be more cars every year because the population will keep increasing. Unfortunately, there is no way this kind of criticism can be made in these climes without some unknown quantities that are supporting the party in government trying desperately to attribute all sorts of malicious intents to it..
I have always known that you people would still feel bad and criticize this good news. The previous governors and government that did not do this, you did not criticize. And now someone who saw the need for this has done it and you are not even happy. Na wa for you o . Enugu state government should continue the good works. The subsequent ones should come and build on it I would time everywhere would open up. As for criticizers, criticism is free but do it with common Sense and open mind.
RomanceRe: Is It Appropriate To Help My Married Ex? by yemre: 6:56am On Apr 18
We help strangers we don't know, let alone someone you once dated.

In my own opinion, you can help her but with a condition! Send her whatever you need to send her but cut all ties with her afterwards. This is because if you allow her to keep coming back or keep in touch, it's just a matter of time she will start cheating on her husband with you, and I'm sure you wouldn't want that (if you don't pray for such for your own wife).

The reason you need to assist her is so that she would know that life can be funny. Besides, we all date most times, not knowing what the future holds. She has seen you as someone who could assist at this point. So help her and move on. After all, she's now married and keeping in touch would only make her life worse.

......and who is that person that have said Soludo is not trying in Anambra.

In the history of Anambra, Soludo has been the very best. If in 5 years he's achieved all these, he deserves an accolade abeg.

I'm not even from the East but will always commend good performance by any political office holders and pls we expect to see more. This development must go round.

And if you're not happy with this just because you don't like the governor or because you just naturally hate good things, you obviously need some evaluation.

In all honesty, I love the kinds of news I'm see from the East these days. So, encourage them so they can do more.

Meanwhile, our South West governors, we are waiting o. In all fairness, Lagos is trying. We need more both from Lagos and the rest of the South West states. Ogun state especially, we need enough infrastructure. Ogun state is growing due to its proximity to the center of excellence. So, the infrastructure needs to grow.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

9jatriot:
Lol... The handwriting on the wall that was unclear before is begging to become clear to you guys. All that scam of I will do only one term, just allow me has not fooled anybody.

Hoebidients have begun to realize that if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) successfully fields a candidate in the next election, that candidacy was always intended for Atiku Abubakar.

Now, there are even sponsored posts circulating to discredit him.
The reality is that, for perhaps the first time in his political career, Atiku has outmaneuvered his rivals by consolidating all potential opposition into a single space—one where he holds the reins.

However, in executing this strategy, he made a few critical missteps with the ADC. Before he can fully assert control, he must first secure his position as the party’s legitimate leader. Until that happens, figures like Amaechi, Obi, and Kwankwaso remain exactly where Atiku wants them: trapped in a party they cannot easily escape, yet unable to challenge his dominance.
Your last paragraph has all the truth combined. Obidients are in for a long ride. But then, why am I concerned? They walked into this with their eyes wide open, ignoring all the red flags and the flashing lights.

But trust their principal, he will soon fly! He'll probably defect to about two parties or more before the end of this year.

Haha..... we're watching in 3D

shame on on them and their yeye governance ideology.

there was never a time poverty is not in jubilation state in Nigeria or African countries as a whole.
as far as memory can permit me, so called president was a well grown adult when OFN was lunched way back then prioritizing food security. I grew to know what is called 'iyan Buhari' meaning Buhari's pounded yam. all these were nicknames given to the food items door step delivery intervention programs that we enjoyed as a growing child and our parents appreciated till date. Reasons why our parents who were school teachers with such meager income were able to sponsor 3, 4 kids through University same time.

Talking about the toddlers scouting around Abuja roads for means of survival, at what point has it become a concern to him if not for the embarrassment it posses on him siting such heartrending situation they've constantly swept under the carpet. must every hungry Nigerians pick up a plastic bowl to beg for alms before this government feel concern?? because some people's condition is worse than what you see the kids doing on the street.

I have gone to eat at an eatery where an average age Nigerian youth whisper in my ears that I should please assist him by leaving a little leftover that he would know how to pick up my plate afterwords.. when I interacted with him, he wasnt actually a begger, he had stayed two days without food and he had to stay out of jod because the salary couldnt cater for transportation and coupled with several other factors..

Northerners have embraced their problems over years and surviving through whichever means, why is the government trying to downplay its primary responsibility to the nation as a whole..

people have landed properties that had been abandoned for fear of banditry. it takes grace of God to leave for work in the morning and come back home safely without a story that touch..

in the space of 4 days, my street was robbed twice. this is a street that has police post 300 meters away..
we put a call across to police, the DPO responded with sleepy voice and it took over three hours before they eventually called back that they didnt have fuel to move and they couldnt locate the particular street on foot.

I think the Government should just be focused on its responsibilities to its citizen before pointing accusing fingers.

'Na papa wey get property fit get mouth to say e wan disown pikin no be the one wey pikin don already know say in no get anything to gain from the papa afterall..'
Is it that you couldn't comprehend the guy's message or you were just wanting for this post to vent your anger?

I'm sure you're not a northener, neither do you have more than one wife and probably 3 children (that's if you're married in the first place). Someone has aired his opinion and calling the attention of northern adults to what they need to work on and you're here just heaping every blame of the government.

Fine, we all know that the government might have failed in some of its responsibilities but before you grow up to know about the government, it's your parents you first know and whether they like it or not, they owe you the duty to bring you up, train and educate you.

Now I can see you wrote in good English up there, meaning you're educated. Some people can not even go to school because of loads of their parents responsibilities cause by their own carefree attitude.

In my own opinion, the journey is very far because their politicians whom I would have said should be in position to start educating them on the implications of this lifestyle are also guilty. I know many of them, popular ones, who have more than 3 wives and more than 10 children.

But I believe we can start from somewhere. Awareness is key. But which government will start that?

It is well
