Approval alert

Upfront medicals: 30th Oct 2019
Online application: 31st Oct 2019
Biometrics completed: 1st of Nov 2019
Medicals passed: 20th of Jan 2020
Bvl and passport request: 3rd of March 2020.

17 weeks.

Doc submitted:

All IRCC forms
Marriage certificate
SOP
Account statement
Car papers
Visas and stamps

My wife’s study permit was also approved, it was a joint application.

Congratulations @okikiabdu

Thanks for adding to the tempo of this group with this exciting news.

For the benefit of those in a similar situation, can you please explicitly elaborate on how you went ahead with a joint application? I observe that often times couples try to play it careful by applying one at a time: student visa first before sowp.

Your input will be very enlightening.

Enjoy your new lives ahead!

Thanks for your response, yes I processed another passport with my new surname. Please what is CSE?

Uwc.

CSE is case specific enquiry. Search this on their site and follow the instructions. It’s very straightforward. You can send a mail too to follow up

Elders in the house, pls I need your advice.
My family friend plans to invite me to Canada for about 4 months - Visiting visa. I stayed with her for over 7 years before she relocated to Canada.
She currently has a Job in canada and is also a PR.
She said can sponsor me.

The problem is we dont think her letter of invitation, her bank statements would be enough to convince them to give me 6months visiting visa.

I have no links (not married, no one to sponsor me from Nigeria neither do I have the amount needed for the trip in my account) she plans to plan to pay for the trip and all.

So we dont waste money applying for Visa, how best i can be approach this.

Your advice would be appreciated please. cry

Please read through this thread very well because its a bit difficult to prove purpose of visit, home ties, and family ties in Nigeria and in Canada, given your info above.

So reduce the days you are applying for, draw up a comprehensive daily itinerary and cost, and look for what you will use to justify home ties (esp if you aren’t working) and family ties. Whatever you come up with should convince YOU that you will return to Nigeria after the short stay.

Once again, read through everything here.

All the best.

Gurus in the house, please help with opinion on the below questions:
1- Can someone use two different address as mailing address and residential address the application form ?

2- If an applicant has 3.2M in his/her account and a question on the CIC form says “how much fund is available for your stay in Canada” how can such person respond to this question. Is it save to put the whole 3.2M as funds available for visit? Please assist a brother in need of clarification. Thanks in anticipation

I’m not a guru but:
1- Yes you may put both addresses if your residential address, for example, has no direct post mail information. In any case, if you have a valid email address, correspondence will be through your email. It’s stated in the imm form.

2- my opinion is that you deduct the cost of flight to and fro from the 3.2M and fill in the difference as amount available for your stay during the visit.

Success.

Good afternoon to you all, please I need your help on this. I applied for sowp last year but I was denied and i reapplied last month and now I got a message that I have to my biometrics which have done last year which is going to expire 2029 although I just changed my surname to that of my husband, but I have sent the receipt of the previous biometrics I did, affidavit, marriage certificate, newspaper publication but I am yet to receive a response from them. Please what do you think I should do .Do I have to do another biometric due to the change of name?

I really don’t think so. Perhaps you can send them a CSE explaining the situation and wait for their advice. By the way, did you have to process a new passport bearing your new surname too? All the best.

1. Ask this question on Kubeir Immigration page on Facebook. They will have better legal advise.

2. As for me, I would get a birth certificate that omits the father's name showing he was never in the picture.

3. I think after this, gather the documentation and submit to IRCC. If they need more details they will ask.

To boost the application, try to get some evidence showing that you tried to contact him. Try to get some form of paper trail (send emails, use linkedin etc) stating that you contacted the father and got no response. This shouldn't be hard considering the man is not in her life.

While the documents are with IRCC, try to get some documentation from a Nigerian court showing that he has never been the child's legal guardian and he has relinquished all rights to the child. IRCC might ask, and they might not ask. It will be safer to be running it in the background. A family lawyer might be able to help with this. If he never shows up in court to contest this, a judge might grant it in absentia (Again, see a family lawyer. This is from my own little knowledge).

The case might end up in Accra but I don't think it's impossible.

Thank you for this. It gives practical insight. I’ll forward to her.

Sis, based on what I've learnt here, whether the baby bears her (the mum's) family name or the said father have never been in the picture from day one as you put it, are not even relevant in this EE journey. What's relevant is, as long as there's a biological father figure in that child's life and he's alive, the mum must not only bring this plan of traveling with the child to Canada to the dad's knowledge but she must also get his consent, except she has full custody legally. She needs to get that sorted out first!

Thank you for the reply. I’ll be forwarding all replies to her.

Hello all,

There’s a single mom who’s interested in this PR journey but her only concern is how to scale through any difficulty arising from being a single parent. Her child’s bears her family name because the baby daddy was never in the picture from day one.

So question is, can she apply anyway, and what does she need to do to avoid issues with her application?

It means you can come and pick it up. Thereafter, you will see the decision, whether positive or negative. I pray you share good news with us.

I thought ircc normally sends a mail showing their decision before passport pickup request.

[quote author=Alliteration post=84605414]Good day house,

I am a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Immediately after my graduation, I was able to get a copy of my transcripts through a friend with ease. Trying to apply to a school outside the country , there is a need to send an official transcript from OAU. I sent a friend to visit the transcript office for payments but they said they would only attend to application via ETX-NG. I was excited thinking things would be easier ... Although I have to pay the application fee of about 24,000 naira.
I have paid the application fee for the school abroad too on the ground that the transcript will be processed within a week but it hasn't been processed since 18th October. The deadline is due and my fee is wasted. I chatted etx up several times but they have been telling me about proofreading the transcript for weeks now...I don't know what they are proofreading o...

Hello...I am in a similar situation. I’ve been on my transcript since September and I have been using all possible means to get it sent to no avail. Even after following back door channels and sending mails to Etx and OAU transcript office.

It’s unfortunate I can’t go to ife myself to weep and hold them hostage!

It’s out of a broken heart that I searched out this thread on nairaland in case there are others in a similar situation.

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday. Please I need some sort of advice.

I have been processing my transcript in OAU via etx since 2018 even before I bought the canny vision all to no avail. Over 30k gone down the drain.

Long story short I was introduced to someone in transcript office who has helped so far. I paid for courier service to send to CES as well extra PR for his own work since October 2019 and up till now My transcript has still not been sent.

I gave him a piece of my mind last night and woke up to his text now saying he wants to sent the transcript to me in Lagos and I’d send to Canada myself if I don’t mind the extra cost again. I don’t mind o but the questions are

Should I accept to do that cos I have been waiting for IFe to send it for the past 4months all to no avail.

If I accept should I send it from Lagos or travel to Ife to use DHL on campus to send it?

What if CES decides to verify and they discover I sent it myself though in the official envelope and seal, would it create any problems for me?

Since the school wants to frustrate my efforts, should I go ahead and send it by myself?

Thank you guys.

Heyyyyyyyy Great Ife!!!!! We are almost in the same situation! Been on my transcript with Etx since September 2019! Registered for ECA with CES too but now I’m on the verge of doing another transcript application to WES just to save my time! Please inbox me cos ETX and OAU wants to frustrate me too!

Reapply for the SOWP as seeing your hubby has a work permit, they may not issue you a visitor Visa. Order your GCMS asap. Does your hubby have a NOC A, B or 0 job in Canada? If u give a few more details about yr application, I could offer some pointers. I have been where u are now.

Thank you darl. I’ll put the details on the swop platform.

Thank you once again.

The surest way for you is the PR route. Since your hubby is already working using PGWP. He only needs to work for one year then he will be qualified for PR using Canadian experience route. That’s almost automatic. Tourist visa might not work for you as you won’t be able to prove a tie in Nigeria. If you are reapplying for SOWP then you have to know when his PGWP will expire vis a viz when the application will be decided. I hope this helps?

I really appreciate this input. His pgwp will be expiring in December. We had hoped we’d be able to spend this new year together while processing our PR whereby he’s the primary applicant. But with this new development we are thinking of not reapplying for a work permit anymore and process a visitor visa instead so I can at least visit him with my annual leave before PR clicks. Besides no much time will be left after waiting for another work permit outcome...I’m guessing the duration, if granted, won’t exceed time remaining in his permit.

Thank you for weighing in. I’d appreciate more insight pls.

Hello my good people,

I’ve been reading along on this page for a while now and I appreciate how you all provide advice and encouragement here.

After waiting since mid September, my application for SWOP ended in a refusal today on the grounds of family ties in Canada and Nigeria, and current employment situation.^^ It was devastating to say the least.

^^In my opinion we weren’t well-informed about how to present a water-tight and compelling application. This nairaland resource field wasn’t mined because it didn’t occur to us to use it...oversight is now hindsight!

Here’s my basic info anyway:
-Newly married
-Spouse works in Canada with a 2yr PGWP
-I’m employed here with a Federal Govt parastatal. It’s standard and very stable.
-Finances are available
-No travel history.
-No personal business/landed assets right now

However, these are our other options:
1. Reshoot our shot on the SOWP line, or
2. Try visitor visa with my annual leave, or
3. Manage and stick to PR route ONLY (we are still in the early stages of gathering our documents)**

**The TRV route keeps popping up instead of waiting the whole nine yards for PR because we’ve had just a week as man and wife. #pains...

Now, in the light of the above-mentioned conditions, what do you guys advise we do?
-What are my chances of success for each option?
-Is it advisable to reapply for SOWP without requesting for GMSC notes first?
-Won’t it count as desperation to apply for visitor visa?
-Is it contradictory to apply for a work permit when I supposedly already have a satisfying job here? I mean, I applied because I have to be with my husband even though I love my current job...

Many questions on my mind but I just need whoever can to put things into proper perspective for me.

Please be kind while at it. I’m still sore and downcast, you know.

Thank you all.

Sigh!

That’s right.

It was 76 days about last week. It’s system generated as some applications are processed shorter and longer than this average time.
