The reference is to the foreign illegal fishing trawlers.

Most especially from the Chinese trawlers, they will come to west Africa coast to fish, something that can never be done in European countries.

This is a huge revenue source for teeming unemployed Nigerians. Only if our leaders knows and follows how things are done overseas. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel, just delegate someone from the relevant ministry to study the guidelines of fishing in developed countries and implement them.

Create incentives for setting up fishing companies, import trawlers and set up large fishing market in coastal areas. Huge revenue source and job for Nigerians. If you watch Fishing Wars on National Geographic, you will know how much revenue this country is losing to illegal foreign trawlers. One blue fin tuna can cost as much as $1000 (N365,000) just one blue fin. However, the will for implementation is missing.

Isn’t there any form of insurance that cater for disability in the Nigeria Police Force? A small monthly premium of not up to N5000/month should cater for disability, retrenchment and life insurance for all armed forces deductable at the source.

This is a policy that should be enforced nationwide either private or government parastatal. Insurance on life, disability and property is a must, it helps in the long run in unforeseen situations like this.

JOHANNESBURG - The record petrol price announcement has fuelled frustration as motorists come to terms with having to fork out more than R17 (N408) for a litre of petrol.

From Wednesday, both grades of petrol will increase by 99 cents (N23) and R1 (N24) per litre, respectively, while diesel will set you back R1.24 (N30).

Paraffin is going up R1.4 (N33.6) while LP gas will cost you R1.79 (N43) a kilogramme more.

The Automobile Association’s Layton Beard has described the hikes are catastrophic for motorists and consumers.

“It’s catastrophic for all road users because as you rightfully say, it’s going to filter into the economy in some way or another. Maybe not immediately, but over a period of time. We will see an increase of costs, in terms of food and other services we use.”

I can only guess if Nigerians can withstand the cost of fuel (N400/Litre) without government subsidy?

Inasmuch, we all enjoy petrol subsidy directly or indirectly, full deregulation of the downstream sector is the way to go.

South African government always increase the price of petrol for every $5 increase in the price of crude oil.

Irrespective of how we look at it, the present administration could do more in terms of security and response to issues like this.

However, the bucks stop on the President table. He can’t absolve himself from the fact that he appointed incompetent people to critical positions.

I for one believe he has good intention for the country, but he and people around him are slow to acts and he needs to appoint young vibrant committed Nigerians.

Give people hope, and let them have sense of belonging that the government cares for them. A simple acknowledgement on the Presidency Twitter handle that security operatives are in high gear towards unraveling the crime would clam fray nerves.
