This young lady (picture attached with her products) did what academic research should be all about- impact/development oriented, i.e tangible results from the research that will benefit the individual and society. Academic research shouldn't just be done to graduate or get good result. Pathetically, this is what most academic researches conducted by Nigerian students are all about. So this young lady just finished (August 2016)her M.Sc programme at the University of Ibadan. She studied Sociology and majored in Development Studies. Her M.Sc thesis was on women who process Shea butter ( ori) in Oyo State. After the project and at the nudging of her supervisor, she started packaging Shea butter for two reasons - for personal development and to raise money for her PhD programme so she can further her research on Shea butter. The other reason is so she can help the women who process the Shea butter in her own little way by buying from them (as they have more Shea butter than buyers). So, you see, her academic research has done more than earn her a PhD grade from UI. It has developed the student (financially and intellectually) and also put food on the table of the women who process it. She is not stopping there! She intends to do more research, expand her brand and give the women enough exposure that will attract foreign companies/industries who use Shea butter as raw material.

Below are 10 transformative ways to increase your worth at work, among friends, in your family and in your community. 1. Subscribe to Excellence: It is a common saying that "Whatever your hands find doing is worth doing well". You increase your worth by activating excellence in all you do. Give your best to whatever your hands find doing. Let people know that you will always deliver to the best of your ability. 2. Be Time Conscious: Those who are not time conscious not only reduce their worth, but also cause a crack to their integrity. Get to meetings at least 10 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. Never waste people's time. And whenever anyone waste your time, politely frank at it. 3. Let Your Yes be Yes and Your No be No: Your worth increase when people can trust your words. The world today lacks people who can tell full fledge truth. Once people know you with the truth, you become a treasure. 4. Know your value: Never settle for the less, no matter what. It is not pride. It is called knowing your value. Never price yourself too cheap. 5. Be strategic with your friendship: "Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are". As simple as this sentence is, it goes a long way in determining a man's worth. One rich man among nine poor men, they are all poor. But, one poor man among nine rich men, that are all rich. If you won't respect the poor man because of his financial status, you will respect him because of his friends. Your network determines your networth. 6. Be Updated: A man is only limited by the level of information he possess. The only way to make the whole world listen to you is by having an information the world don't know of. You increase your worth by possessing information that is up to date. Social media pages becomes a must visit daily for people because it contains information they don't have yet. By reading books in your line of discipline, you become updated and a custodian of information that others don't have. 7. Be A Solution: There are lots of challenges in the world and the community we all belong to. Highlight the challenges peculiar to your community and see if there is anyone you can provide solution to. There you go! 8. Share Your Knowledge: Contrary to some people's opinion that "You become so important if you are a custodian of a knowledge that no one possess". You become more important and increased in worth when you share your knowledge with others. The more you give out, the more you get back. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted. 9. Be The Reason For People's Happiness: At work, make it fun when it needs to be. At home, be relaxed, participate, smile and make others smile. In the community, be cool and easy going with people. 10. Be A Good Listener: Everyone has so much to say, but there are few listeners. Those who even listens only listen to reply and not to understand. You can increase your worth in two weeks by becoming a good listener than you can take years trying to get people to be interested in you. You'll never know how close you are to a million dollar idea unless you are willing to listen. Source: http://www.loftycentre.com/?p=489#more-489

This is sure to the point. An average Nigerian remains poor because of lack of knowledge. Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
Despite the Police warning against the throwing and firing of banger, it is very serious in my area. The boys won't stop firing it and the behind my house won't stop cursing them ![]() How is it in your area or are you the one throwing it? Lol |
This is so precise and concise... Only if we could all adhere to this principles. Lalasticlala kindly move this to the right place for the benefit of all |
1. Appreciate those who have contributed meaningfully to your life: Making the rest days of the year as days of expression of gratitudeto your friends, families, colleagues etc. isn't a bad idea. Tell them you love them, send out greeting cards, send text messages, call them on phone or you can visit them. 2. Make someone happy: There are people around you who are not as blessed as you are. Make this festive period an opportunity to demonstrate love and care to people like that. Nothing is too small or too big. 3. Forgive and be foegiven: It isn't pleasurable to carry with you the pains that others have caused you into the new year. It will be good for you if you can forgive those who have offended you in the past months and embrace peace. Also, you should also ask for forgiveness from those who you have offended, hoping they will forgive you. 4. Take an online course: Yes, you can still get certified in some online courses this year. There are courses you can complete in a day and within a week. Websites like www.alison.com provides you with services like this free of charge. 5. Read a book: Probably you have not take time to feed from other people's knowledge since the beginning of this year. There is still an opportunity to do so. Read a book in line of your motivation or education. You can also read a book that will prepare you for 2017 like "GOALS" by Brian Tracy. 6. Plan for 2017: Results will be delivered earlier and systematically to those who take time to plan ahead for the coming year. Take some minutes break away from distractions around you and make plans for 2017. Considering the resources you will need and how you will get those resources needed for your GOALS. Then, put yourself to action. 7. Make a friend: Friends are essential in everyone's life as no one can live in isolation. You can still build a meaningful network with someone who will positively influence your life. If you want to make friends, be friendly. 8. Celebrate yourself: This is probably the least anyone will think of doing, but very important. You can write a letter to yourself, telling yourself about your great accomplishments this year and assure yourself of learning from the mistakes you've made. Don't wait till your employer of anyone tell you "you are great" before you do so for yourself. You can also take yourself out to ease the stresses you have passed through. Write yourself a check of the amount of money you deserve (seems like a fantasy). Be happy! 9. Appreciate God: A lot has happened this year and God has kept you from all forms of evil. Being able to read this is an obvious reason why you should thank God, because some are no more alive. Appreciate God for everything you have and that you are. 10. NEVER GIVE UP: The best is still ahead of you!

Great piece.... This is a timely information |
Folorunsho Alakija nailed it for me.. |
A GOAL is like a compass that navigates the route of a destination. Great piece. Only if Lalasticlala will see this |
Once he has a chic he gives other room service to, has some money to go clubbing, shouts when Chelsea is beating Man U, he says the situation of Nigeria has nothing to do with him. Because her boy friend supplies her ojuju make up stuffs, get her pizza from time to time, gets an allowance for working in the other room. She believes the situation of Nigeria is not her problem. The day you realise that the freedom you have today, some people worked hard for it and you have no freedom to leave for your kids, because you are watching the politicians to do as they like.. . Then you will get! |
This is what you get when you make a vigilante a minister i |
Powerfully summed up! But I don't think we need to change the Nigerian name before we can experience true Transformation. Lalasticlala, kindly do the needful. |
