Religion / Using The Power Of The Holy Spirit by yommyuk: 6:14am On Sep 01, 2016
Galatians 5:22-23 states that the fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. A Christian with these kind of characteristics are classed as being fruitful. However, to exhibit these spiritual fruits, the Holy Spirit is needed to enable us to display them on a continuous basis. Christ said that when he is gone, he will send the comforter who will lead us into all truths. These truths are doing the right thing at the right time.

Whatever challenge you may face or be facing in your life, ask the Holy Spirit within you to enable you to overcome. Done deal.

Luke 4:1-13
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted[a]by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’[b]”
5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
8 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’[c]”
9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10 For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you carefully;
11 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[d]”
12 Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[e]”
13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

Remember the story of King Nebuchadnezzar who woke confused after receiving a vision from God (Daniel 4:1-18). Instead of him seeking true counsel, He went to seek the advice of his magicians who were too afraid to tell him the truth. At last, He received true counsel from Daniel who had the spirit of the most High God living within him.

All Nebuchadnezzar had to do was renounce his sins by doing what is right, and be kind to the oppressed (basically, humble himself). Doing this would have given him prolonged life and prosperity. He disobeyed and was sent packing to live with wild animals in the bush for 7 years before he came back to his senses.

We have just started a new week and are about to enter a new month. What do you need to change in your life so that the word of God that said “we shall lack no good thing” will become a reality in your life?

Take a look in the mirror(WORD OF GOD/BIBLE) and make that change NOW!

James 1:22-25
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Religion / Envy Not Your Fellow Human Being by yommyuk: 7:59am On Aug 28, 2016
Envying the wicked of his prosperity and apparent happiness does not make us happy or rich. It does not add one dollar to our assets, but it does bankrupt our soul. Joseph’s brothers were envious of him - Gen. 37:11. Their envy led them to plot their own brother’s death and eventually sold him into slavery. Can you imagine selling a member of your family into a lifetime of slavery? Eventually, they were forced to recognise Joseph’s superior position that God granted him.

Envy is a boomerang-like weapon that hurts the attacker more than the victim. The envious man feels that other’s fortune is his misfortune, that their success is his failure, and that their blessing is his curse. Only love for our fellow man is a cure for this disease.
The bibles says in Galatians 5:26, “Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.”

James 3:16,
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”

Therefore, let us recognise the danger of envy and remove it from our lives. It does not build, it destroys.

Mark 12:30-31
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. " There is no commandment greater than these.”

It is easy to impress God. Just do something right. Follow His instructions. Those instructions may come through His Word, the inner voice of The Holy Spirit, or through men of God in your life. Attend church faithfully. Tithe consistently. Pray daily. Read the Bible habitually. Witness to someone about Jesus either (face to face, social media, your lifestyle,). Those little golden hinges swing huge doors to miracles. Get started...NOW. Humble yourself. Reach. You will succeed.

James 4:17
So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Romans 12:21

Isaiah 1:17
Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.

2 Chronicles 15:7

2 Chronicles 7:14
"If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land,".

Religion / Just Surrender All To Him by yommyuk: 5:25am On Aug 24, 2016
But perhaps you have wondered why the Lord can ask us to surrender our all to him?

God has every right to demand that we give Him our all. First, Scripture teaches us that He is the sovereign King who rules over the entire universe (Ps. 135:6). As a result, we are under His authority, whether or not we choose to submit. Next, through His death and resurrection, Jesus saved us from our sin and its consequences. Therefore, we are indebted to Him more than we could ever repay. And finally, He sustains us. We should consider each breath and heartbeat a gift from Him.

Undoubtedly, the Lord is entitled to ask that we yield our life to His will. At the same time, we should realize that surrender is in our best interest. The Father promises that following Him leads to hope and an established future. Psalms 31:19 states, “How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You ...” So, while He is the Almighty with authority over every aspect of our life, He promises to care for us and to do what will benefit us most.

Are you willing to put yourself aside in order to follow Jesus? His way is best, and it offers hope, joy, and peace. We will not always like everything He chooses at the moment, but He promises to work all things for our good. Will you trust God enough to hand the reins over to Him?

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Mark 14:35-36
And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Religion / A Slow To Anger God by yommyuk: 4:27am On Aug 22, 2016
God’s seemingly slow reaction to sin is often puzzling to believers. Why doesn’t He immediately punish those who violate His principles? The answer is found in today’s passage—the Lord is patient so that all people have an opportunity to repent (2 Pet. 3:9).

In our humanness, we at times want people to suffer for wrongdoing. Jonah ran away from his duty to preach in Nineveh, because he expected that if the inhabitants repented, his gracious, compassionate God would relent about destroying the city. And that is precisely what came to pass. Instead of rejoicing in the Lord’s success, the prophet complained about His treating the Ninevites with patience and mercy (Jonah 4:2). Jonah was angry at God despite the fact that he himself had received divine mercy.

More often than not, believers have ample reason to be thankful that the Lord, unlike human beings, is slow to anger. When we are stubborn and unrepentant, He waits patiently for us to respond to conviction. Discipline is painful to both the recipient and the one carrying it out. God prefers that we see the error of our choices, stop thinking that we’re getting away with sin, and turn back to His righteous path.

The Lord places a high value on repentance and maintaining fellowship. However, His justice demands a penalty. Do not wait for discipline. Instead, do what’s right, and turn your heart toward God.

2 Peter 3:8-9
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

Psalms 103:8-13
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

2 Chronicles 30:9
For if you return to the Lord, your brothers and your children will find compassion with their captors and return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away his face from you, if you return to him.”

Religion / Going To Bethel by yommyuk: 7:40am On Aug 21, 2016
Genesis 35:1-2
And God said to Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there; and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau they brother. Then Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments.

Today is the day of worship. Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles us as we come before the God who appeared to Israel (Jacob) in Bethel. As we flee from sin, let us come into his presence with clean hands and pure heart. Come before I AM THAT I AM transformed with a new mind-set. He is holy, those who worship him must worship him in holiness, spirit and in truth.

Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Religion / Beware Of Wolves In Sheep’s Clothing by yommyuk: 3:53am On Aug 19, 2016
New Testament writers warned about false teachings that sounded good but defied truth (2 Tim. 4:3; 1 John 4:1). Believers today must still heed these warnings! Ungodly leaders subtly twist truth with such conviction that unprepared Christians can be charmed by their lies. That’s why the Bible instructs us to evaluate the message of whoever desires to lead us (Matt. 7:20).

Matthew 7:15 describes them as wolves in sheep’s clothing. They appear to want people to know the “real” truth about God, but their interpretation of Scripture may contain outright lies or a distorted mix of fact and error. Wise believers study God’s Word, so they can detect a “sheepskin” starting to slip. The wolves are further exposed by their personal lives, which won’t be consistent with righteousness (Matt. 7:16). A close study of their decisions, actions, and words will reveal that they do not follow the Lord’s will or biblical principles.

Their enticing ideas appeal to their listeners’ fleshly nature. In fact, false teachers will often permit activities prohibited in Scripture. Some deceivers describe God’s grace as a license to live without restraint (Jude 1:4). Paul clearly denounces this lie, teaching that believers have died to sin and shouldn’t live in it (Rom. 6:1-2).

The body of Christ is expected to use Scripture as the standard against which to measure our leaders’ lifestyle and words. When we seek divine truth, we are given the discernment to differentiate between a holy message and a misleading one.

2 Timothy 4:3
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

2 John 1:7-11
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

John 3:1-36
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ...

Religion / Wanting More Of God by yommyuk: 7:56am On Aug 14, 2016
The Lord has given us a variety of appetites, which are essential for our physical survival. But He has also created within our hearts a hunger that is spiritual. David was a man who recognised and felt this yearning for the heavenly Father. Throughout the Psalms, we find him meditating, offering praise, or crying out to God. His greatest joy was to be with his heavenly Father in intimate communion.

Hungering for the Lord is a desire to know and draw closer to Him. Sadly, this yearning lies dormant in many believers’ lives. They’re saved but have very little desire for more. One of the problems is that our society is filled with all sorts of things that grab and hold our interest and affections. These pleasures and pursuits compete with God for our attention, claiming our time and effort.

The good news is that a longing for God can be awakened if we are willing to change our priorities and pursuits. Although cultivating a desire for the Lord takes time, the joy we’ll experience is lasting—and the rewards are eternal. We’ll always get more out of a relationship with God than we put in. What’s more, as our hunger for Him comes to life, He will open our heart and mind to understand and desire Him even more.

When we yearn for the Lord, He will satisfy us with contentment and a sense of completeness, while awakening an even deeper longing in our souls. Unlike physical hunger, a craving for Him is filled but paradoxically leaves us hungry. The more we are satisfied in Christ, the more we want of Him.

Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.

Jeremiah 29:12-14
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

1 Chronicles 16:11
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

Lamentations 3:25
The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

Isaiah 59:7-8

Their feet run to evil, and they are swift to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; desolation and destruction are in their highways. The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked; no one who treads on them knows peace.

Deuteronomy 19:10

Lest innocent blood be shed in your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance, and so the guilt of bloodshed be upon you.

Joel 3:19

Religion / Reasons For Life Storms by yommyuk: 4:12am On Aug 11, 2016
If we could design an ideal life, most of us would skip over times of hardship. But Scripture teaches us that God has a purpose in the storms of life.

SPIRITUAL CLEANSING.
When problems press in on us, ungodly attitudes and habits tend to surface in our lives. Impatient behaviour, a quick temper, or reliance on something or someone other than the Lord may become apparent. In a crisis, the bad habits we previously ignored can show up in ways that are too obvious to overlook. The Holy Spirit will use tough times to smooth away our rough edges and produce the fruit of the Spirit in us. (See Gal. 5:22-23.)

CLOSENESS TO GOD
When life is good, we may spend less time with the Lord and start taking our relationship with Him for granted. We may even drift off His chosen path. Crises help us see our need for Him as well as our inability to help ourselves. Hard times bring us to our knees in prayer and drive us to seek opportunities for His companionship.

Our heavenly Father’s desire is for us to develop Christ like character and grow in intimacy with Him. He wants us to experience the richness of His love and wholeheartedly show Him devotion. He will use trials and difficulties to accomplish His good purposes for us.

Life brings trouble to us from many sources. But the common thread in all trials is the Lord’s desire and ability to use them for our good and His glory. Through these experiences, we can let go of ungodly traits and experience sweet communion as we walk in intimacy with Him.

Matthew 8:23-27
And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marvelled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

Psalm 107:29
He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.

Psalm 34:17-20
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

Foreign Affairs / South Africa Is Now Africa's Biggest Economy by yommyuk: 9:14pm On Aug 10, 2016
Johannesburg - South Africa’s economy regained the position of Africa’s largest in dollar terms more than two years after losing it to Nigeria as the value of the nations’ currencies moved in opposite directions.

Based on gross domestic product at the end of 2015 published by the International Monetary Fund, the size of South Africa’s economy is $301bn at the rand’s current exchange rate, while Nigeria’s GDP is $296bn. That’s after the rand gained more than 16% against the dollar since the start of 2016, and Nigeria’s naira lost more than a third of its value after the central bank bank removed a currency peg in June.

Both nations face the risk of a recession after contracting in the first quarter of the year. The Nigerian economy shrank by 0.4% in the three months through March from a year earlier amid low oil prices and output and shortage of foreign currency. That curbed imports, including fuel. In South Africa, GDP contracted by 0.2% from a year earlier as farming and mining output declined.

“More than the growth outlook, in the short term the ranking of these economies is likely to be determined by exchange rate movements,” Alan Cameron, an economist at Exotix Partners, said in emailed responses to questions on August 2. Although Nigeria is unlikely to be unseated as Africa’s largest economy in the long run, “the momentum that took it there in the first place is now long gone”.

No growth

The South African rand rallied as investors turned to emerging markets with liquid capital markets to seek returns after Britain voted to leave the European Union on June 23, even as the central bank forecast the economy won’t expand this year and the nation risks losing its investment-grade credit rating.

The ruling African National Congress’s lowest support since 1994 in the August 3 local government vote led to further gains on speculation that it will pressure the party to introduce economic reforms that will boost growth and cut unemployment.

In Nigeria, investors didn’t flock to buy naira-based assets after authorities removed the peg of 197-199 naira per dollar. The Central Bank of Nigeria raised its benchmark interest rate to a record in July to lure foreign money, even as the IMF forecast the economy will contract 1.8% this year.

Nigeria was assessed as the continent’s largest economy in April 2014 when authorities in the West African nation overhauled their GDP data for the first time in two decades.

The recalculation saw the Nigerian economy in 2013 expand by three-quarters to an estimated 80 trillion naira.

The rand gained 1% to R13.2805/$ at 16:03 in Johannesburg on Wednesday. The naira weakened 2.7% to 320 per dollar.

Religion / Seeking After God by yommyuk: 5:15am On Aug 09, 2016
Pursuing God through His Son Jesus is to be our highest aim. It requires an attitude of wholeheartedness, diligence, persistence, confidence, and humility. To seek Him, what actions can we take?

First, we need to study the Scriptures. A structured, ongoing examination of them will cause our faith to grow and provide what we need for life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3). Next, we must maintain an active prayer life. Prayer is conversation with God—it includes both speaking and listening. Third, we are to meditate, which involves prayerful consideration of what we read in the Word. This means digesting a passage of Scripture verse by verse and asking the Lord questions about what it means. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will gain understanding of its application to life.

This process helps us absorb His truths so we can live by them.
As we assimilate scriptural principles, we gain wisdom. It becomes easier to identify where the Lord is at work and to evaluate our circumstances in light of His character and plan. We will also recognise when we are to act. As we listen to messages based on God’s Word, we will grow in the Lord. Listening includes a desire to hear, a willingness to act, and a determination not to be distracted. Lastly, we should observe how God is working in others’ lives, which will be an encouragement to us as well.

God promises to reward our seeking. Sometimes we will be blessed with greater understanding, at other times with inexplicable joy. Best of all, seeking always leads to finding Him (Jer. 29:13).

LUKE 12:29-34
And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Remember, King David did the will of God and boasted confidently in Psalm 92:11-15
“My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my eyes have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents. But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, “The Lord is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!

PRAYER
May our eyes see the downfall of Satan and his ultimate defeat. May we continue to flourish in the house of the Lord like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For the Lord our God has transplanted us from darkness into his glorious light. We shall continue to produce good fruit and remain vital and green in the House of the Lord. Evil shall not prevail against us IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME – Amen !!!!!!!

You don`t really deserve a response from me, but just to let you know that I don`t google before posting. Faisal Islam is the new sensation in London right now, far better than your Stephen Sackur. In case you started to watch Hardtalk yesterday, Tim Sebastian was the doyen of Hardtalk, a true grandee of forensic probing! Oh, please google Jeremy Paxman to help yourself in the field of comparison.
By the way, next time you start a thread, you can always say at the beginning who and who you want to contribute. So I owe you no apology for my opinion. Good luck!

Typical Nigerian mentality and response. Arrogant to say the least.

My initial response was to your first post "Average journalist from dying London dominated Fashola from beginning to the end! Poor performance!"

How can you call a seasoned and well respected journalist "Average"?
Comparing Stephen with other journalist is totally out of context for this thread.
Classic Nigerian Egoist!

How can you call London "dying"? A city of 7 million people that is worth 7 times more than Nigeria as a whole.
Pleaseeeee

Have you ever wondered what heaven is like? If you could create heaven according to your own specifications, what would you include?

At first the question seems easy—a few ideas spring to mind right away. But after several minutes of serious thought, it becomes apparent that we could never think up things that would give eternal satisfaction; what we might imagine as a source of endless joy would fall far short. The sad truth is that people spend a great deal of time pursuing something or somebody, only to come to the conclusion that their goal was not what they really wanted. The problem is this: Left to ourselves, we don’t know what it is we really want.

That is one reason we have a great High Priest presiding over the throne of grace. The Word of God tells us that “there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (Heb. 4:13).
In other words, Jesus Christ sees what it is we really want and need, even when we ourselves do not recognise what that might be. He knows how to find our hurt and soothe the pain.

And what’s even better, He is lovingly encouraging us to “draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:16). Be assured that your High Priest knows the true desires of your heart, and He is fitting you for the heaven He has already prepared.

Psalm 147:4-5
“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit”

Romans 11:33
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgements, and his paths beyond tracing out!”.

Hebrews 4:13
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account”.

Isaiah 46:9-10
Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.

I disagree. Get your facts right b4 posting on my thread smiley

That was Stephen Sackur, Hardtalk's presenter, has been a journalist with BBC News since 1986.
He has interviewed Presidents George W Bush and Bill Clinton, covered the 2000 US Presidential Elections, the Clinton scandal and impeachment trial. He has interviewed prominent international personalities including President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, President Felipe Calderón of Mexico, President Shimon Peres of Israel, US vice-president Al Gore, former US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and a host of other leaders and politicians from around the world including OBJ.

Sackur was named 'International TV Personality of the Year' by the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) in November 2010.

The Jounalist looked surprised and bewildered. Most African personalities (during interviews) talk out of context. Fashola schooled the man. Kudos to him

Religion / Always Thinking Of God’s Perspective by yommyuk: 11:51am On Aug 03, 2016
We all know of people who suffer from deteriorating health, financial reverses, and other troubles. How are we to process such situations in light of what the Scriptures teach about the Lord’s goodness and the expression of His benevolence towards us?

First, God’s character is perfect, and everything He does is right. He is “compassionate and gracious ... and abounding in lovingkindness” (Ps. 103:cool. By His very nature, God is good.

Second, our heavenly Father expresses His goodness based on His purpose of conforming us to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29). From the Lord’s perspective, everything that fits into His plan is beneficial for us.

The greatest demonstration of our Father’s goodness is seen in His Son’s life and death. Jesus left His heavenly home, took on the form of man, suffered, and died in our place so we might be forgiven (Phil. 2:6-cool. Because of what our Saviour endured, we who have trusted in Him are adopted into God’s family, and heaven is our eternal home.

At the time of Christ’s crucifixion, the disciples could not see anything beneficial in it. They knew only great sorrow. But we understand that God gave His own Son so that He might accomplish our salvation (Rom. 8:32).

Our definition of the good life would probably include material success, good health, and the absence of trouble—things that make us happy right now. But God has an eternal perspective, and He always works to fulfil His long-term plan for us. We can trust in His goodness, even in dark times.

Deuteronomy 32:4
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

Psalm 103:8
The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

Romans 8:28 -30
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Travel / Old Dark Blue Coloured British Passport Coming Back by yommyuk: 9:13pm On Aug 02, 2016
For almost 30 years Britons have travelled the world clutching small burgundy books.
But the question of what colour the British passport - for some a symbol of national identity - should be is not an easy one to answer.
And following the UK's vote to leave the European Union, its hue has again been called into question.
Why dark blue?
For many, the true colour of the British passport will always be dark blue.
The familiar, modern-looking, navy British passport - used for more than 70 years by millions of Britons travelling abroad - dates back to 1921, the Home Office says.
But, according to writer and lecturer Martin Lloyd, the colour goes back even further than that.
The first blue passports were in fact first produced on 1 February 1915, says Mr Lloyd, as the government frantically attempted to find ways of identifying foreign spies during World War One.

Mr Lloyd - who has written a book about the history of passports - says it was after a secret agent, infiltrated within the UK government, was discovered with a US passport that photographs were included on all British passports.
At the same time a dark blue cardboard cover was introduced.
So why blue?
"Blue is a very serviceable colour and it's a very cheap dye to make," Mr Lloyd says.
"And one practical consideration is it doesn't show the dirt. You are travelling around throwing it around and putting it in and out of your pocket and it is likely to get dirty."
But for others it's more a question of patriotism.
The Sun newspaper has launched a campaign to restore the traditional dark blue "as a symbol of the UK regaining sovereignty from the EU".
It quotes Tory MP Andrew Rosindell as saying: "It's a matter of identity. Having the pink European passports has been a humiliation."

First introduced during the reign of Henry V in the form of a "safe conduct", passports were granted from at least 1540
One of the earliest still in existence was issued on 18 June 1641 and signed by Charles I
A passport photograph became a requirement in 1914, upon the outbreak of World War One
The familiar blue British passport came into use in 1921, with the last expiring in 2003
The first burgundy, machine-readable, UK passports were issued in Glasgow, in September 1988
For more than 70 years the blue passports became a travelling companion for Britons - even apparently coming to their aid when some found themselves in unenviable situations.
British double agent Robert Bruce Lockhart recounted being caught in the middle of fighting during Finland's civil war with his friend "Hicks" who he said waved his British passport in the hope of being spared in the shooting.
When the decision was taken to change Britain's passports to burgundy, Mr Lloyd says some Britons were so fond of the little blue book they even travelled to consular offices in Europe - where newer production machines had yet to be introduced - to renew their passports and receive a blue one in return.
Does the colour matter?
For some countries, the choice of passport colour relates to its predominant religion.
Muslim countries such as Morocco, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia all have green passports - a colour associated with the Prophet Muhammad.
Hrant Boghossian, the vice-president of Arton Group - which runs the interactive passport database Passport Index - told the Telegraph red passports could hint at a communist past.
Russia, China, Serbia, Latvia, Romania, Poland and Georgia all boast red passports.
The decision to harmonise the passports of the members of the European Community was taken in the 1980s.

According to the Passport Index, 76 countries have blue passports, including a number of former colonial and Commonwealth countries, such as Australia, the United States, Canada, India and Hong Kong.
Several Caribbean countries also have blue passports, including Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
In Europe, people from Iceland and Bosnia and Herzegovina both carry blue passports, while it is also a popular colour in central and south America, where Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Uruguay and Venezuela are among those with blue passports.
Others include Israel, Iran, Iraq, Syria and North Korea.

According to the Economist, it took the nine members of the-then European Community "years" to settle on the colour of the passport. Mr Lloyd says the idea of a lilac passport was even discussed at one point.
It was in 1988 that new burgundy British passports were first printed, with "European Community" emblazoned on the front - later to be replaced with "European Union".
Turkey, Macedonia, and Albania have all changed their passport shades to burgundy in order to match their EU aspirations.
It is such connotations that have prompted leading pro-Brexit politicians to call for the burgundy passport - so synonymous with the UK's place inside the EU - to be abandoned and the blue ones returned.
UKIP leader Nigel Farage brandished his passport several times during the EU referendum campaign, suggesting he could burn his in the event of a Brexit vote.

The subject has also been raised in Parliament, when pro-Brexit Conservative MP Michael Fabricant asked if the Home Office would bring back the blue documents.
But Home Office minister Robert Goodwill said nostalgic Britons may be in for a wait.
There are "no immediate plans for changes to the format or colour of the UK passport", he said, adding: "Parliament will be informed of any changes to the passport following UK withdrawal from the European Union."
Mr Lloyd says there will "always be people who don't like the red passports" but he says, in any case, the perceived status of the British passport has declined over the decades as travel has become "far more mundane".
However, he points out there is one blue British travel document still being produced - those issued to non-Britons who are recognised as refugees.
