Politics / Five (5) Ways To Remain Sane In Nigeria Of Today. No 5 Is Controversial! by Youngadvocate(m): 8:24pm On Aug 22, 2017
(The article was first published in September 2016 but it's even more timely now than then.)

Recent reports suggest that mental illness has been on the increase lately. There has been several cases of suicide reported also in the cities. My mission here is not to lay blames but to prescribe a number of 'research proven' remedies. Feel free to reject anyone you have doubts about its efficacy.

Here are the prescriptions:

1. Stop listening to News: After you were told that Nigeria's economic recession is as a result of activities of militants in the Niger Delta, you tune to the news and another government official says recession is because the past administration stole the country blind. As you were adjusting to that, CBN governor and the Minister of Finance engage themselves over interest rate. One says "we must reduce interest rate to encourage manufacturing" and another blasts, "never, we can't reduce interest rate in this life".

You switch to another station; as if you have not had enough, a state governor will begin to teach the federal government how to run the economy even when he cannot pay workers salaries in his state. Ignore him and move from that channel to the next, ehn, now you have landed in real confusion. A debate is raging over the identity of the blood suckers that just massacred innocent, unarmed farmers in Benue and Enugu states. The issue here is that the security agencies say they are herdsmen, but a prominent leader from the north argues that they are not Fulani. As you wonder whether that was why government has been sleeping on the matter, there is a breaking story: "Soldiers kill 7 Biafra agitators in a praying ground".

Ok, the herdsmen are not Fulani and so could not be stopped but these other ones are known, though not armed, do not have rights to life and must be annihilated. Help yourself, don't listen to news. What you do not know won't hurt. Before you lose your mind while struggling to keep a balance with sanity, turn off every source of news.

2. Remove yourself from any interactive social media platform: As soon as you finish reading this article, delete yourself and stay on your own. If you must read, stay on the Bible or the Koran. Communication from there is one sided and so you are safe from some senseless debates and argument.

You can imagine one insisting on the payment of the now illusive N5,000 stipend to the unemployed while at the same time justifying the millions of dollars Madam Pee claimed belongs to her. Or, another accusing ex-President Jonathan of being so divisive prior to the election by visiting almost all the churches in the country; even while giving a different meaning and watering down the nepotistic blood that flows in the veins of Pres. Buhari.

3. If you are bored and must chat with someone, don't be tempted to go on facebook or twitter; instead go and chat with the gateman in your compound. You can learn some new accent which may be useful someday.

4. Don't ask anyone 'how are you doing'? Just say hi or hello and walk away even if the person is an old time friend. Most Nigerians have a lengthy list of woes inflicted on them by the 'harsh economy.' Some of these people had never found life easy but there is now a handy excuse to explain perceived failures. Don't be deceived by the person's previous financial records, things are no longer the same. Before you will be tempted to 'dash' someone your transport fare and walk home in regret, just say hi and keep moving.

This is the best time to claim too busy when a relation or friend wants to discuss how his or her children are faring. It is better you don't listen at all so you won't feel guilty or consider yourself a failure because you couldn't help a brother. Be polite in shutting out the conversation for you are most likely to be told to assist in the payment of school fees. Little would they know that you will soon be out of social media because topping up data on your phone with N1,000 has become an extreme luxury.

Politics / A Flashback To 1967 In Igbo History by Youngadvocate(m): 10:10am On Aug 21, 2017
In October 1967, Nigerian troops under the command of General Murtala Mohammed entered Asaba, a principle Igbo town in the Midwest, an ethnically diverse region west of the Niger river that did not secede along with Biafra. In a chain of events known as the Asaba Massacre, the army rounded up and indiscriminately executed nearly a thousand non-Biafran civilian males, sparing neither the young nor elderly. Their bodies were dumped into mass graves, and to this day, there exists no national memorial in their honor, no formal recognition that the event took place at all by Nigeria, nor have the perpetrators of these heinous crimes been brought to justice.

In 2010, a team of researchers from the University of South Florida travelled to Asaba to help Asaba sympathizers, community leaders, and survivors spearhead an Asaba Memorial Project Initiative, in order to forever immortalize the hundreds of innocent victims of aggression and erect a permanent museum in their honor.

The researchers visited numerous individuals and families at Asaba and collected first-hand eyewitness accounts from survivors in the hopes of amassing adequate documentation before evidence of the event would vanish from history. “We were also privileged to meet Obi (Chief) Esonanjo Awolo, who lost two younger brothers, as well as many other family members, in October 1967. His brothers, Harry and Joseph, were gunned down by soldiers while attempting to flee as federal troops entered Asaba. He was able to bring them home to the compound; one was already dead, while the other died shortly after. Igbo people traditionally do not bury their dead in cemeteries, but in their own home compounds, following customary ceremonies. Many people who lost family members were never able to retrieve their bodies, which made the loss even harder to bear.

Chief Awolo, whose status is marked by his robes, red cap, and other regalia, showed us the spot where he buried his brothers. He explained that he planted a small pepper tree on the site, which has now grown quite large over the last 40 years.”

Education / "How I Succeeded": Chinecherem Cynthia Who Had All 9As In WAEC Reveals (Photos) by Youngadvocate(m): 12:57pm On Aug 20, 2017
Chinecherem Cynthia Ali achieved fit deemed nearly impossible for teenagers of her level.

The beautiful and bright student of Shalom Academy, who hails from Nsukka, Enugu state trended over the internet with her historic success at the 2015/2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination where she bagged all “As.”

In this interview with the Punch, she revealed the secrets to her success, part of which were her dedication to studies and distance away from material things like technology gadgets that get students of the new age of focus.

When asked, “you became the first pupil in your school to earn A grade in all the subjects you sat for in WASSCE. What motivated you to achieve the feat?”

She answered: “While I was in school, my priority was to make a wonderful result. I had clarity of purpose in what I wanted to achieve. My elder brother was the chief motivator. He made six As in his WASSCE last year. He told me I could do better than he did. He planted that goal to surpass his feat in me. Whenever I had a problem with my studies, he was always around to help me out. He practically taught me the techniques to excel in the subjects. He prepared my mind about the syllabus in SS3, who the teachers were and what would enable me to get the best from each of them.

“He told me I needed to put in extra efforts in whatever I was doing. On my first day in school, when I got to SS1, my chemistry teacher called me and told me certain things about my goal. He told me no one had ever made nine As in the school. He said he heard an inner voice that I could break the record. I was just laughing when he told me. I had a note which I titled, “My future WASSCE results.”

“I wrote down my results on the note, filling As across all the subjects I was to sit for. I prayed to God to help me achieve the goal. My friends who saw the note said I was going crazy. But I told God to help me. Another teacher that helped me a great deal was my biology teacher. She prepared a study timetable for me to follow. She told me to study at least two hours at a stretch. The two teachers (chemistry and biology) told me my goal was achievable.”

Politics / Re: Video Of Nnamdi Kanu Saying Election Will Hold In Anambra by Youngadvocate(m): 11:24pm On Aug 19, 2017
Capital FO..OL is is the suitable sobriquet for the Op of this thread.

This shallow subtle campaign to destroy the young man, Kanu's name is as laughable as it's defective and senseless.

Channels TV, Daily post and of course, the very undeservedly famed, propaganda-specialist, gossip platform, Naij.com, were the unashamedly avid conveners of the false news.

Either by connotation or denotation, Nnamdi Kanu never pre-empted IPOB's position.

Making illogical inference or otherwise by these media aforementioned depicts a clear example of lack of depth and impartial reporting by Nigerian media. It's rather for them, about the headline that will sell faster and return more dividends.

Even if Kanu would take a shift in position and harbour such thought, he should at least be allowed to truly say it himself.

Politics / IPOB Hasn't Cancelled Anambra Election Boycott, Decision Not Reached- Prof Nwala by Youngadvocate(m): 1:51pm On Aug 19, 2017
The media was agog yesterday, Friday, following the meeting of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Maazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Leadership of the Ala-Igbo Development Foundation, with reports that Nnamdi Kanu had withdrawn his threat to boycott Anambra state election.

According to reports, the President of the organization, Prof. Uzodimma Nwala was quoted as saying “after much deliberation, IPOB has assured it won’t disrupt Anambra state governorship election.”

However, the statement accredited to Prof Uzodimma in media reports is a contrasting twist to what both Nnamdi Kanu and Prof Uzodimma stated, briefly after the meeting.

According to Nnamdi Kanu, “IPOB is not a violent organization” and therefore, will not apply force on voters as the group is confident the boycott will be carried out willingly and peacefully by the Anambra people; both its members and sympathizers of the Biafra cause.

He however, hinted of some possibility of shift in position by assuring he would “meet with the leadership of IPOB” for consultation.

His words: “I came because of my respect for elders. IPOB is not a violent group. We are law abiding citizens of the society.

“What we have today will guide us in the issue of Anambra election. I will go and meet with the leadership of IPOB.”

On his part, Prof Uzodimma, was not assuring on the resolution of both groups at the end of the meeting.

He said, “As you see in our midst, you see our brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we have come to discuss the issue of mutual concern, especially on Anambra election. We are happy he is here with us.

“As we know, the IPOB decision on boycott of election and you know that IPOB is an organized group and the agitations born out of marginalization of the Igbo.

“We are glad he has explained to us the reason they issued the boycott order and that it is not his personal decision but that of the IPOB leadership. We are meeting for the first time and will meet again. No decision has been taken.”

Well, this is actually a contrast to reality as in Igbo land where he came from, pythons are usually known to be deeply obessed with chickens. They eat the eggs of hens and sometimes kill them.

Though the are generally revered in espeically the ancient Igbo communities and often worshipped, pythons are feared whenever they near chickens

Politics / PDP Plotted Igbo Hate Song - APC Chairman, Oyegun by Youngadvocate(m): 6:25pm On Aug 09, 2017
All Progressives Congress, APC, chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has accused the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party PDP of plotting the hate speeches, especially the now viral hate song in Hausa Language, inciting the rest of the North on a genocide against the Igbo.

Odigie who made the accusation in reaction to the audio recording making round that incites the North, especially the youths to engage in genocide against the Igbo people, described the song as “dangerous and despicable” and called on the security agencies to apprehend those behind the recording and other similar acts “no matter who they are.”

According to him: “the rising wave of hate speeches, negative religious and ethnic utterances and actions as is currently being experienced, is part of the fallouts of the 2015 presidential election.

“Anyone participating in an election knows that there could only be two outcomes, you win or you lose. When you lose, you prepare for the next election. What we have seen however is that since 2015, some politicians and political groups have carried on as if they wished the country itself to collapse just because they are no longer in power. This is tragic indeed”, he said in apparent reaction to the former ruling party, the PDP.

“Every ethnic based crises of whatever nature had started with hate speech. When people within the same country frame and define one another in the manner intended to set them up for violent attack, then they are setting themselves up for a major disaster”.

“The merchants of hate don’t know or just don’t care about the consequences of the fire they are stoking in the country. But they have the experiences of other countries to learn from. Rwanda remains a classic example on our continent. However, even as terrible as Rwanda was, it would be nothing compared to what could happen if a huge country like Nigeria is allowed to fall into the disaster of hate-driven conflict. This is why we must all rise, regardless of our political differences and condemn these ugly and shameful acts with one voice”.

“We cannot sit idle and watch a few disgruntled individuals destroy our democracy, and God forbids, the nation that we all fought hard to achieve and build.”

Nevertheless, the APC government, of which party, Oyegun chairs, has been accused by generality of Nigerians of scratching the surface of the very threatening issues confronting the country.

Part of the evident presented by these critics is the inability of the federal to make any move of arrest on the Arewa youths who had issued quit notice on the Igbo to vacate the northern territories before October 1st or risk the violence that would precipitated their refusal to leave.

This is despite the directive from both Acting President Yemi Osibanjo and Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai.

Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan Reacts To Ozubulu Church Killings & Anti-Igbo Song In North by Youngadvocate(m): 1:49pm On Aug 09, 2017
If anyone accuses Nnamdi Kanu of making hate speech. My question is this
Nnamdi Kany made hate speech to Nigeria as a whole. He called Nigeria the zoo, yes, I agree. He said he hates Nigeria.
Please, why would it be only the Arewa youths who would issue counter threat? Or do they see themselves as Nigeria or owners of Nigeria?
Why aren't other geopolitical zones also issue quit notice to Igbo people. Why must it be Arewa youths?

Why did the Arewa youths not issue quit notice to IPOB and Biafra supporters only, why the Igbo people in generation?

The hate song in circulation, why is it against the Igbo as a people and not to Nnamdi Kanu and the IPOB supporters, even when other Igbo people have spoken openly in condemnation of the activities of the IPOB?

It was how it started in 1966...hate songs and speech spread like wide-fire and before it was noticed it had lit the whole country, culminating the biggest genocide in the History of Nigeria even before the civil war. THE NORTH IS SYNONYMOUS WITH VIOLENCE, take it or leave it.

Politics / Ozubulu Catholic Church Killings: Governor Willie Obiano's Broadcast by Youngadvocate(m): 3:04pm On Aug 07, 2017
Here is the Special Broadcast by the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano on the St Phillips Catholic Church Killings at Ozubulu on August 7, 2017.

Good morning fellow citizens

Ndi Anambra ekenem unu

With a sorrowful heart, I stand before you today to brief you on the tragic killing of 12 people at St Philips Catholic Church, Amakwa, Ozubulu yesterday.

First, I want to assure you all that what happened in Ozubulu yesterday was a tragic dimension of a long battle between two business partners who are from the same town. I have been fully informed that this dangerous conflict has been going on for a while in the country where they both live outside Nigeria before they decided to bring the conflict home. But let me assure you that Anambra is too hot for them to operate here, going forward.

This explanation, I believe, has erased the fears that the incident may have been caused by either some terrorist organizations or some members of some groups of agitators in the country. Brothers and sisters, what happened in Ozubulu was neither a terror attack as we know it, nor a violent action by some agitators. We are dealing with a dangerous GANG WAR that has spilled over to Anambra State from another African country. But this is the last time it will happen under my watch!

Fellow citizens, I want to assure you that we are on top of this situation. We are completely in charge here. The people directly and remotely involved in this crime are known to the law enforcement agencies. But no suspect, no matter how highly placed, is above the law. So, we have taken bold steps to bring them to book and restore the peace and tranquility that Anambra State has enjoyed since the past three years.

Sincerely, there is no cause for fear or alarm here. Anambra state is safe. Our churches and places of worship are safe. So, our people should not be discouraged from going to church to serve their God because what happened in Amakwa, Ozubulu is an isolated case. It will not happen again! Ndi Anambra should continue to sleep with both eyes closed because we are staying awake for them. In the words of Wendell Philips, the American abolitionist and liberal activist, “the price of liberty is eternal vigilance.” We have chosen to stay awake that Anambra may find sleep! I repeat, never again will this type of bloodshed happen in Anambra State under me!

Ndi Anambra, in all our 25-year history, never has a single act of senseless violence consumed so many lives. I strongly condemn this wanton killing of our fellow citizens who left their loved ones in the early hours of Sunday morning to worship their God. I condemn the senseless violation of sacred places of worship by people to whom neither man nor God is worthy of respect or honour. I condemn these people who did not think twice before placing such a heavy burden on our humanity!

All the shadowy characters behind this crime shall account for it. This is the first and the last of this appalling crime!

Fellow citizens, I call on you today, to join hands with me to rid our society of all vestiges of crime and criminality. Nothing else can stand in the way of accelerated development as crime does. We are familiar with this fact in Anambra State. That is why we have fought tooth and nail to usher in the long period of peace we have enjoyed in Anambra State.

To our numerous friends and partners, I want to assure you that Anambra is still Nigeria’s safest state. Indeed, the Ozubulu killings have only strengthened our commitment to create a safer, business-friendly and prosperous state. We remain focused on our Vision and Mission to this great state. No amount of threats or wholesale destructions can shake our commitment to these ideals.

Ndi Anambra, I have declared today a Day of Mourning in honour of our brothers and sisters that were slain yesterday. We shall observe a minute of silence in their honour at 12 noon today and special prayers shall be offered for them in churches and prayer houses across Nigeria and in the Diaspora. We have also opened a Condolence Register for them in the Government House.

Finally, for the 18 survivors of this carnage who are nursing different injuries in the hospital, my administration shall pick up all their medical bills. I have visited them at the hospital to ascertain their recovery rate. I have also dispatched 50 additional medical doctors to the hospital to ensure that they have access to the best medical care possible. Indeed, all hands must be on deck to save more lives.

At this juncture, I want to thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari who called me last night from London to commiserate with Ndi Anambra on this tragic incident. I must also thank the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo who also called last night to condole with us. My gratitude goes to everyone who has called my Team and I to say a soothing word since this incident happened. Your calls have re-affirmed my belief that we are one people under God! It has strengthened my faith in the unity of this country.

Anambra State has survived incredible odds in our modest history. This too shall pass!

God bless Anambra State

God Bless Nigeria

Thank you

Dalunu!

Willie Obiano

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How To Identify A Scam Interview Invitation by Youngadvocate(m): 2:07pm On Aug 07, 2017
Please, help. Are these people real.

I visited their website. But not convinced of their genuineness with a Saturday interview.

Here is the message they sent:
Sequel to your application for employment with Deslog Energy Services Limited for the position of Marketer, you have been invited for an interview by 1pm tomorrow Saturday 5th August 2017at No 2 Sanyaolu street by Oregun bus stop, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos.

Fweezy:
Its a scam. Don't bother going unless u hav time and transport fare to waste on these guys. No sensible or serious minded company wud fix an interview by 1pm on a weekend. A company with no track record of activities and projects being executed? A company that always and only ever has vacancies for marketers? What about accountants, secretaries, project managers etc? So many questions they have to answer.

They called me on Friday from their Port Harcourt office for an interview with one of them.
He said the vacancy was for their office here in Lagos

Politics / Ozubuu Massacre: Police, Anambra State Gvt Lied, Witnesses Say by Youngadvocate(m): 12:24pm On Aug 07, 2017
The purported report by the Anambra state Police command as well as the government of the state, making round on the insensitive and barbaric massacre of innocent worshipers at St. Philips Catholic Church of the state have been flawed and debunked as FALSE with the account by eye witness-worshipers at the church who are also, indigenes of the state.

According to the Nigerian Police as re-echoed by the state government, the mass shooting was a result of a disagreement between two billionaire brothers from the village, one of whom built the Church.

It was suspicious however, why the Police hurriedly made the statement just immediately after the incidence without proper findings both from the eye witnesses and the originators of the so-called feud.

Ejike Ofoegbu, from Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Wing, Anambra state chapter visited the venue of the scene to interact with the victims and have their account of the incident.

The eye witnesses interacted with shared their experience, maintaining that the Armed men were in Army Uniform and non of them was heard speaking Igbo language.

These narratives present a clear sharp contrast to the claim of the Anambra state Police who stated that the Armed men were in plain dress and spoke Igbo language.

Here are the narratives of the victims

First Hand Information On What Happened At Anambra State Today, As Ejike Ofoegbu Arrived Anambra From Aba

Please over look the police report, Ejike Ofoegbu said

Loveth Gift narrated.

"We all were in the church during the 6am morning mass today, we saw two cars that drove into the church; because it was a Church premises we over looked it and we considered them to be people that came for morning mass(service). But to the surprise of everyone, the car halted at the center of the gate, meaning you cannot close the gate, since it is open already.

"The driver came out of the car pretending he was fixing a problem; so everyone still ignored the drama happening outside the premises.

"Suddenly, some men came out from the car, fully armed, all in Army uniform. I was lucky because I was sitting at the back, just beside the door, but I was clearly seeing what was happening. The sky was cloudy and everywhere seemed dark; no one saw what they were carrying, whether it was gun, but surely they were fully equipped.

"They immediately rushed to the front door. I was too lucky to jump the fence, but before I had jumped, I heard gun shot everywhere in the building. They obstructed the front gate, because for women that is their only route to escape. That was why women were killed more than men. Children were killed as well, many were seriously injured.

"After I had escaped, I started making calls to link my church members who were in the church, but they were not picking up; not knowing they were dead already.

The gun men were not igbos, because their language were not igbo, the government should stop lying, I heard they said That, they gun Men were flashing touch light on us, but it a lie, because the whole church was so lighted that even from outside you will see who is inside. Even at that, if they were really flashing touch light to know who is their target, those that were killed, are they their target.

Like I said before and I will say it again, I was at the back door, I saw all that happened, they were with Army uniform, face covered, standing at the Front door, holding their trigger, and shooting at anything that moves.

When the police came, I was waiting for them to ask questions of what happened, so that I will explain, but they were busy taking pictures of the dead ones, without knowing the fact.

"Not too long after they had gone, I went back to the church. I was shocked with what I saw; my Mother was lying dead! Many people were unconscious but later succumbed to death.

"After about one hour of the killings, the Police arrived the church. Two hours later, the Governor, Willie Obiano arrived too. Everyone was shocked, wandering how the perpetrators stormed in Army uniform. Questions began to arise: "Who gave them the Army uniform?" Who gave them the Army car?"

Surely jihad is here, and everyone has to defend him/her self.

A woman who still survived the mayhem said, "All I could remember is that I was sitting at the front when some people in Army uniform invaded the Church and started shooting at everyone. They just held the trigger and fired at everyone they sighted. I managed to hide under the seat but was shot in the leg.

"A boy was shot in head, his brain burst, and blood spilled everywhere - even at my face." Ejike Ofoegbu reported.

Ndi Anambra and indeed, Nigerians are calling the government of Anambra state, the Police and the Federal government to come out to the public with the truth of the Massacre, expose the perpetrators and bring them to book.

The blood of these innocent citizens will always speak against and fight both the evil men of the underworld who did this sacrilage and every other person who seeks to use the dastardly act for either political gain or selfish aim.
