The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) established by late Odumegwu Ojukwu, has slammed the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for calling for the boycott of the forthcoming gubernatorial poll in Anambra State. This was contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ifeatu Obiokoye, yesterday Monday, wherein the party described the call by Kanu as “irresponsible and devoid of focus”. To them, Kanu was becoming arrogant, and so, they advised him to drop his “emperor” perception of himself “and be humble to the true leadership of Ndigbo for a proper and better articulation of the Biafra struggle”. “Nnamdi Kanu’s call for a boycott of elections in the South-East, beginning with the governorship polls scheduled for November 18, 2017 in Anambra is irresponsible, irredentist and totally devoid of any focus. “One must appreciate that for different logical reasons and perception, the Biafra concept has attracted favourable comments among our people, ostensibly borne out of the marginalisation of Ndigbo in the Nigerian state. “While youths of the East are agitating for Biafra, the Arewa youths are equally restive; the same goes for Níger Delta youths and youths from Oduduwa states. “In this popular agitation for Biafra, Ndigbo have not instituted a separatist movement or a terrorist gang as it were. We are more concerned about the continued existence of Nigeria under the present structural arrangement”, the statement read. The party chose restructuring and the implementation of the 2014 National Conference resolutions “as a certain way to peaceful co-existence among ethnic nationalities and for dousing tension”. According to Daily post, APGA warned Kanu not to be carried away by the success of the May 30 sit-at-home call, which it attributed to fear. The party reminded Kanu that the right to vote and be voted for was a universally declared right under the United Nations Charter of People’s and Citizenship Right, and in the 1999 Constitution (as amended). http://igbobia.com/?q=apga-blasts-nnamdi-kanu-over-election-boycott-says-its-irresponsible-lacks-focus.html

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosusn has struggled to clear her name after a derogatory tweet on ndi Igbo credited to her had dragged her to the mud. The official Twitter handle of the minister sent out a tweet saying, “I am happy that Igbos are gradually becoming insignificant in Nigeria financial system and before the nd of 2023 Igbos will be insignificant in South east and Nigeria in general.” The tweet which went viral and attracted bashing to the minister has now been denied by her. She said in a series of deserate tweet: “There's a fake Twitter post circulating in my name, suggesting that I said something derogatory about Igbos. Kindly disregard it. “It's nothing but a shoddy attempt to photoshop a hateful statement onto my Twitter handle. I did not say or tweet any such thing. Thank you. “Every part of Nigeria is important to our financial system & our Economy, and as a Govt we will support ALL to achieve their full potential.” One is left to ponder which is true. http://igbobia.com/?q=after-much-criticism-minister-of-finance-denies-saying-shes-happy-igbos-are-gradually-becoming.html

Coalition of Northern youths under the auspices of Arewa Youth Assembly, AYA, have threatened to protest for the sack of the National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police and Director of State Security Services for not being able to arrest the signatories of the quit notice handed down on Ndi Igbo in the north and the pro-Biafra agitators. Recall the quit notice declaration was made by the President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, Shettima Yerima in a meeting of a coalition of Northern youths, in Kaduna, a state governed by Nasir El-Rufai The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai had, following the declaration which took place on the 6th of June, 2017, ordered for the arrest of signatories to the quit notice as well as their sponsors to serve as a deterrent to others. However, no arrest has been made as the voice of the youths has even resurged the more violently and decisively, evident in the letter they sent to the Acting President days ago asking for the Nigerian government to let the Biafra agitators have their wish. The AYA coalition in a statement signed by its Speaker, Mohammed Salihu in Kaduna on Friday also faulted the elders from the region who supported the October 1st ultimatum issued to Igbos to vacate the region. The statement reads, “Acting president should move ahead and order the arrest of all those behind this plot and even Biafra agitators and bring them to book. While the NSA should be sacked and the DG –SSS, I.G for failing to apprehend all those behind the Kaduna declaration. “If no arrest is made to serve as a lesson to others, next episode will be a full scale war and lives and properties will be destroyed by the followership of ember of disunity. What make Americans great is the supremacy of her citizens, the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and can’t be left in the hands of misguided rascals. “While the sack of the security chief should be treated with dispatch and levity because whosoever descend into the arana of conflict will not escape the dust of the encounter, we should question the character of some of our elders we found their effusions rather too insensitive to bear especially in a country that is sitting on a delicate balance. “Their support of Kaduna declaration have made the North to South, East to West our language of engagement loaded with tempers that are waiting to explode. “While agitation for Biafra has attained a dizzying height, on October deadline, all you hear is languages of war and war alone. If separation would answer all the questions, examples from South Sudan are not something to relish. Even if we agreed to go our separate ways is not synonymous with development and peaceful – coexistence. “To our elders, they should always encourage our young people to see strength in our diversities, forge a national consciousness that would gravitate towards positive development; they should always promote national peace and unity. “It is not enough to lament what has happen in the past, it is more important and more noble to do something now in order to reshape the future of our beloved country Nigeria. “Arewa Youth Assembly is pressing home its demand by staging a peaceful protest for the sack of NSA, DG/SSS, I.G of police and the arrest of all those behind Kaduna declaration. “We call on the acting president to constitute without delay an all embracing, credible and sincere peace and reconciliation committee to resolve the brouhaha. “Arising from the above, the forum therefore advises all parties to remain calm and guard against provocative utterances in order not to further polarize the system”. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/dailypost.ng/2017/06/23/quit-notice-igbos-arewa-youths-call-sack-nsa-igp-dss-boss/amp/ |

After the successful grounding of the entire South East during the Sit-At-Home excercise on May 30th Biafra Day, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has again warned that if the Federal Government failed to conduct referendum on Biafra freedom, there would be no election in the entire Southeast during the 2019 general elections. According to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the the No-election exercise will start with Anambra state come November 2017 when the gubernatorial election will be held. He said in a new video, “If the Federal Government does not agree with us on a date for referendum, there will be no elections in the southeast, we are starting with Anambra come November this year. There will be no governorship election in Anambra State." “In 2019, the whole of Biafra land will not vote for any president. There will be no Senator, there will be no House of Reps, there will be no House of Assembly and there will be no Councilor-ship elections in Biafra land if they fail to call for a referendum.” He also said that “Nigerian government should build as many prisons as possible to jail all Biafrans because there is no going back and we are ready to go there unless the federal government gives us Biafra. “We are not like any other people. People like us don’t come twice. That’s why I know that with the last breath in this very body that Biafra will be restored. There’s nothing anybody can do about it. Tell them that’s what I said. Nobody on this earth can stop Biafra,” “In 2019, the whole of Biafra land will not vote for any president. There will be no Senator, there will be no House of Reps, there will be no House of Assembly and there will be no Councilor-ship elections in Biafra land if they (federal government) fail to call for a referendum. Vociferous popular Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu had it hot with Nigeria-born Cameroonian singer, Reprudencia Sonkey, aka Dencia, over denigrating comments on the Biafra agitation. Dancia who according to Uche's fans seemingly lacked right thought to put on a social media, took to her Instagram page, to blast the pro-Biafra agitators in particular and the Igbo nation in general over the agitation for Biafra. She wrote, “Igbos want to be Biafrans and have their own President, etc NW and SW Cameroon want to separate and from French Cameroon. Please who do they want permissions from? Just cut yourself off and keep pushing. You new president will do you dirty soon.” Uche, who could not hold his cool on the rant of the kid-singer, warned her to stop interfering with anything that concerns the Igbos, saying “You talk like a clown. Who are you to advise Igbos and Biafra? The last time I checked we feed you country. “Stop interfering with anything that concern the Igbo race. How dare you say, ‘Our new President will do us dirty?’ are you God? “Who are you to make such statement against Igbos? Respect yourself and save your advice for your own nation they need it more. Show some respect for the Igbo race, we are not one of your bleaching creams.” ....that was how the fight began. acenazt:Bro, Referendum is a term that means a vote by a people on a particular political issue...that's what the youths are asking from UN...Do you now understand? |

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, Worldwide, OYC, has petitioned the United Nations, UN, asking that ndi Igbo in the North be granted special protection following the quit notice issued to them by a coalition of northern youths. The council which is the youth wing of Ohaneze ndi Igbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization also, demanded that the United Nations begins preparation to conduct a referendum in Igbo land to finally determine the fate of their people. This is following the letter written by the Arewa Youths to the Acting President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in which they bashed Ndigbo over the continuous agitation for Biafra. Recall the Arewa youths in the letter accused ndi Igbo of instigating various crisis in the country, including the first military coup as well as the civil war. But in the letter to the UN by the OYC, said it was high time a referendum was conducted to pave way for the final end to the “unworkable marriage” called Nigeria. The letter signed by the group’s national president, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike (National secretary) Amb Arthur Obiora (Dep National President) Engr Obinna Adobe (National Publicity Secretary) was copied to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the United States Embassy in Nigeria, the UK Embassy, the Commonwealth, the Amnesty International, among others. The letter was entitled: “A CALL FOR EMERGENCY IN NIGERIA- OUR TWO-POINT DEMAND.” It reads in parts: “It is with great concern that we alert the international community of the looming genocide against the Igbos in the Northern part of Nigeria, occasioned by a well-orchestrated, carefully thought-after plot by the Northern hierarchy, who are hiding under the Arewa Youths. “Their latest ranting, which they packaged a letter to the Acting President has left no one in doubt as to their motive: A GRAND DESIGN TO ANNIHILATE THE IGBO RACE. This, they want to achieve so easily through the well packaged false history, which they have now dished out to gullible minds in order to create a passion hatred for the Igbos in the minds of their people and thereby easily achieve the October 1 planned mayhem against our people. “How else could one justify their attempt to stab history in the back by labelling the first military coup in Nigeria as an Igbo coup? How else could people twist history than their justifying the pogrom against the Igbos between 1966 and 1967, which eventually led to the civil war? In what measure can one justify the insult on our late leaders, in the persons of Late Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi and Late Col. Chukwuemeka Odumewgu Ojukwu? “In Igbo land, we have respect not only for the elders, but more so for the dead and it if is for that purpose that we chose not to go further into this matter. Truth cannot never be changed. However, we must let these youths and their pay-masters know that contrary to their claims, our people have made much more sacrifices for the unity of this country, starting from the later Owelle of Onitsha, Nnamdi Azikiwe. “To also justify their planned killing of every Igbo man remaining with the Biafra agitation amounts to hypocrisy of the highest magnitude. May we remind them for over a decade now, the Boko Haram did not just declare war on the Nigerian State but has gone ahead to seize territories, killed thousands of thousand and rendered millions homeless, yet nobody has branded it an action signed by the entire North. Besides, like the Arewa Youths pointed out in their hypocritical letter, the Biafra agitators have their demand for self-determination found in so many characters, including that of the UN, for which Nigeria is a signatory to. Where does the Boko Haram derive its own right to be engaging in mass murder? “Our point here, however, is not on the propriety or otherwise of the attempt by Boko Haram to take over every Nigerian Nigeria territory or the Biafra agitation, but the difficult attempt by the Arewa Youths to link every Igbo man with the activities of the IPOB. If it is so, suffice it to say that all of them are members of the Boko Haram sect. “May we also state that contrary to their claims that Ndigbo were being accommodated in every part of the country, our people have continued to be slaughtered like chickens, especially in the North, without justifiable reason. The case of Mrs. Bridget Agbahime, a pastor’s wife, who was murdered in cold blood will speak against these youths. The manner her case was muzzled by the Kano State Government will make her blood to cry forever against her shameless murderers. “We, therefore, alert your attention to another impending massacre of the Igbos, especially with thick rumour of arms being stock-piled in the North in readiness for action. It is even more painful considering undenied claims that some security personnel were aiding the smuggling of these sophisticated arms through the porous land borders in the North. “Suffice it to say, Sir, that the life of our people are now at a great risker. It does appear that the pogrom of the 60s is here to repeat itself again. There are indications that they are only waiting for the whistle to be blown for them to unleash another round of terror on our people. “Giving the above, we urge the United Nations to beam its satellite on the Northern Nigeria ahead of any eventuality that may befall our people. Considering the manner the security agencies have handled these endless threats, it is unlikely that they may protect our people when these marauders will strike. “Secondly and very importantly too, having seen that Igbos have remained the victims of this marriage called Nigeria, despite our sacrifices, we demand that the on-going constitutional amendment will not be acceptable should it not make provision for a referendum. It is high time people are given freedom to decide whether they want to remain in a country where they are not loved, not wanted but hated with passion. “The National Assembly should make no mistake of undertaking any further constitutional amendment without an option for referendum, this is the only way to go and we urge the United Nations to mount all necessary international pressures on Nigeria to effect that very much needed amendment.” http://igbobia.com/?q=igbo-youths-write-united-nations-demand-for-protection-of-igbos-in-the-north-and-referendum-read

The governor of Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu has dissolved his cabinet. The major cabinet checkup saw only two surviving commissions, those of Fiance and Justice. No reason was given for the sack of the commissioners, special advisers as well as senior special assistants and the SSG. However, reaons may not be unconnected with the shallow performance of the commissioners who had earlier between May 28 and 29 presented their scorecards to the governor at a forum. The dissolution was communicated by the Permanent Secretary Government House Umuahia, Sir Onyii Wammah via the official website of the governmen of the state. The statement read: "Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has dissolved his cabinet including personal aides. "All but 2 Commissioners affected. The surviving commissioners are: Finance and Justice. "All Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants dissolved. "The Chief of Staff retains his position but the SSG is dissolved too. 'Await further information." Similarly, the governor approved the appointments of three members of his cabinet, such as 1. Hon Eziuche Ubani Special Adviser, Works and Project Monitoring 2. Engr Emmanuel Nwabuko- Special Adviser/Personal Secretary to the Governor 3. Engr Solomon Ogunji- Special Adviser, Urban Renewal According to Sir Onyii, "these appointments are with immediate effect" http://igbobia.com/?q=abia-state-governor-dissolves-cabinet-appoints-three-others.html

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), today, Thursday, called trash, the meeting of supposed Igbo leaders of thought with the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, stating that it is “‘a gathering as a few compromised political jobbers from core Igbo states of Biafraland,” “excluding the President of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo and two others.” According to the IPOB, any meeting to be called by the government to settle the Biafra agitation must be one that is channeled to the Referendum on Biafra its Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu proposed. This was contained in a statement released by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, The statement read that the meeting which had leaders sympathetic to the APC government is an insult on the sensibilities of Biafrans all over the world, especially the memory of the dead and injured. The statement read in part: “This meeting we understand was convened at the instigation of the Nigerian Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo following the political fallout from the hugely successful IPOB sit-at-home order of 30th of May 2017”. “With one or two exceptions and with the greatest respect to the attendees to this Nigeria sponsored gathering in Abuja, the so-called South-East delegation is in no way representative of the views of the leadership of IPOB worldwide, neither can they claim with any degree of sincerity to be speaking for the masses”. “Therefore all Osinbajo has succeeded in achieving with this meeting is to waste scarce resources that could have been channelled towards more useful purposes. None of those that attended this meeting with Osinbajo gave the order for people to sit-at-home on May 30th. So we are at a loss to understand the justification for their invitation to the meeting to discuss something they know nothing about”. “In this regard, we wish to inform the government of Nigeria that the gathering and deliberations they thought they had yesterday is a complete waste of time and will continue to be until the Federal Government does the needful. We note and respect the presence of Chief Nnia Nwodo the Ohaneze Leader and two others at that very meeting, however the rest are nothing to write home about”. “We do not think that presiding over the distribution of monthly allocation from Abuja qualifies any political office holder to discuss issues pertaining to IPOB and Biafra restoration when the leadership can be directly contacted”. “Since August 2015 that Nigerian Government and her security operatives, especially the Army, Navy, DSS and Police, have been killing and abducting innocent and peaceful IPOB members, none of the governors that attended this meeting in Abuja rose to condemn the brutal and barbaric repression of IPOB peaceful agitation for a independent homeland for Biafrans”. “None of them offered any comment in condemnation of the well documented atrocities despite the existence of overwhelming evidence to substantiate the facts alluded to in the widely received Amnesty Report on the senseless slaughter of IPOB members. How can such persons now go to Abuja to discuss issues bothering on the activities of IPOB when they know nothing about the modus operandi of the organisation. Only IPOB can and will discuss issues pertaining to her activities, not compromised politicians”. “From time, we firmly resolved that nobody among the governors or politicians can set an agenda for IPOB except our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The sooner Nigerian Government understands this, the better. Therefore, any meeting without the consent of our leader or those nominated by him in a representative capacity, is a complete waste and unacceptable to IPOB” powerful stated,” it said. Out of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo have by far the worst politicians. Among the different ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo are without a doubt, one of the most remarkable. So remarkable, indeed, that some have even traced their ancestry to biblical Israel, as the far-flung descendants of Jacob, the Jewish patriarch. Gad, Jacob’s seventh son, is said to have had three sons who settled in South-eastern Nigeria. These sons; Eri, Arodi and Areli, are believed to have fathered clans in Igbo-land and to have founded such Igbo towns as Aguleri, Arochukwu, Owerri and Umuleri. Igbo genius Even the bitterest adversaries of the Igbo cannot but admit that, as a people, they are very resourceful and ingenious. Indeed, this has often been the cause of their envy and dislike by others. However, more enlightened non-Igbo Nigerians see this as a cause for celebration. While today, the centre-point of Nigeria’s manufacturing is situated in the Lagos/Ogun axis, there is no doubt that the real locomotive of Nigeria’s indigenous industrialization lies farther afield in Aba and in the mushrooming cottage-industries of the Igbo heartland. In one of the paradoxes of Nigerian history, the terrible civil war provoked homespun industrialization in the South-East. Military blockade left the Igbo with little alternative than to be inventive in a hurry. While Nigeria as a nation failed woefully to harness this profitably after the war, it has nevertheless ensured that the Igbo are at the forefront of Nigeria’s economic development today. Indeed, the way we disregard “made in Aba” today is the same way we disregarded “made in Japan” yesterday. For those of us who believe against the odds that Nigeria is the China of tomorrow, we equally recognize that the ingenuity of the Igbo is an indelible part of the actualization of that manifest destiny. Hall of fame The Igbo have been a great credit to Nigeria. They have given us a great number of our favourite sons, including international statesman Nnamdi Azikiwe; military leader Odumegwu Ojukwu; regional leader Michael Okpara; vice-president Alex Ekwueme; mathematical genius Chike Obi; literary icon Chinua Achebe; world-class economist Pius Okigbo; world boxing champion Dick Tiger; international statesman Emeka Anyaoku; and world-class artist Ben Enwonwu. Pemit me to include in this illustrious list even some of my very good Igbo friends: Pat Utomi, Ojo Madueke, Olisa Agbakoba, Joy Ogwu, and Stanley Macebuh. Let us get one thing straight: Nigeria would be a much poorer country without the Igbo. Indeed, Nigeria would not be Nigeria without them. Can you imagine the Super Eagles without the Igbo? Not likely! Who can forget Nwankwo Kanu, Jay Jay Okocha and our very own Emmanuel Amuneke? Can you imagine Nollywood without the Igbo? Impossible! Just think of Stella Damascus-Aboderin; Rita Dominic and Mike Ezuruonye. And then there are the diaspora Igbo who many are unaware are of Igbo descent, including concert singer and actor Paul Robeson; Oscar award-winner Forest Whitaker; mega-pastor T.D. Jakes; Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu; and BAFTA actor award-winner Chiwetel Ejiofor. You may well wonder why I have found it necessary to present this small litany of Igbo who-is-who. I think it is important to emphasise how the Igbo have been very vital to the Nigerian project. They have more than represented Nigeria creditably in virtually all walks of life. This makes it all the more absurd that this same people have been consistently denied the position of executive president of the country in all but six months of Nigeria’s 54 year history. Civil-war legacy Of course, a major reason for this was the 1967-1970 civil-war which had the Igbo on the losing side. But that was over 40 years ago. If there is really to be “no victor, no vanquished” in anything more than mere rhetoric, then the rehabilitation of the Igbo back into post civil-war Nigeria will not be complete until an Igbo man finally becomes president of the country. That imperative should be of interest to every Nigerian nationalist, committed to the creation of one Nigeria where everyone has a deep sense of belonging. The problem, however, is that the Igbo themselves seem to be their own worst enemies in this regard. They appear to be doing their very best to ensure that this inevitable eventuality continues to be denied and delayed. The Igbo need to forgive Nigerians. No one who lived through the horrors that precipitated the secession of Biafra and led to the civil-war cannot but admit that the Igbo were abused and mal-treated in one of the worst pogroms ever. It was not just that they were senselessly massacred in their own country; it was that they were butchered. I remember vividly gory pictures of scores and scores of the Igbo with hands chopped up and with legs amputated. And then there were the ravages of the three-year civil-war itself, resulting in the death of millions of Igbo; many through starvation and attrition. The end of the war brought no respite, as the Igbo were pauperized by fiscal decrees that wiped out their savings and their properties were blatantly sequestered by opportunists. All this is more than enough to destroy the spirit of any group of people. But God has been on the side of the Igbo. It is a testament to their resilience that, in spite of this terrible affliction, they have survived, bounced back and have even triumphed in Nigeria. Forty years have now gone by. The Igbo may never forget what happened to them and, indeed, should never forget. But it is past time for them to forgive. We are sorry This is one voice in the Nigerian wilderness saying to the Igbo from the depth of his heart: we are sorry. We are sorry for the way we mistreated you. We are sorry for the way we abused you. We are sorry for starving your children to death. We are sorry for killing your loved ones. We are sorry for stealing your properties. We are sorry for making you feel unwanted in your own country. Please forgive us. It is time to forgive us. It is way past time for the Igbo to forgive Nigerians. We beg you in the name of God. There was a civil war in the United States, but the defeated South rose from the ashes. Five of the last nine presidents of the United States have been from the South, including Jimmy Carter from Georgia, George Bush from Texas and Bill Clinton from Arkansas. The time is overdue for an Igbo president of Nigeria, but it is not going to happen as long as the Igbo continue to hold a grudge against Nigeria and Nigerians. There is no question about it: the Ibos cannot elect a president of Nigeria on their own. To do so, they have to join forces with others. They have to form alliances with people from other parts of Nigeria. That is not going to happen as long as the Igbo continue to bear a grudge against practically everybody else. The Igbo have a gripe against virtually all the people they need. They have this tendency to antagonise their possible alliance partners. They keep dredging up the past, refusing to let sleeping dogs lie. Until they drop these gripes, they are not likely to realise their dreams. Demonising Yorubas. For example, the Igbo have this tendency to demonise the Yorubas. It is alarming when reading the Vanguard blogs today to see the animosity often expressed between Igbo and Yoruba contributors. The hatred is most unhealthy. Insults are traded with abandon. What is the point of this? For how long will the Igbo demand emotional retribution from every Yoruba for the betrayal of Awolowo? Most of the contributors were not even born when the civil-war took place more than a generation ago. There is now even transferred aggression against Babatunde Fashola, who made the blunder of repatriating some destitute Igbo from Lagos back to their home-states. The man has apologised for the infraction. He should be forgiven. Blunders are not the exclusive preserve of the non-Igbo. The Igbo have made more than a few themselves and will yet make others. Paradoxically, the redemption of the Igbos to prominent national office moved apace under President Obasanjo; a Yoruba man. Recognising that Igbos are some of the most seasoned, competent and experienced public-servants, Obasanjo relied heavily on their expertise. Thanks to him, we got Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at Finance, Charles Soludo at Central Bank, Obiageli Ezekwesili at Education, Ndidi Okereke at the Stock Exchange, and Dora Akunyili at NAFDAC. Indeed, Igbo statesmen came into more prominence under Obasanjo than did Yoruba statesmen. But for some strange reason, this does not seem to have succeeded in assuaging the ill-feeling of the Igbos toward the Yorubas. Bad politicians Within the framework of Nigerian politics, the Igbo also have a fundamental problem. Out of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Igbo have by far the worst politicians. They have no recognizable leaders, and have no discernible strategy as to how to negotiate power at the centre. As a result, the Igbo have tended to be short-changed at the federal level. Traditionally, the inconsequential ministries, such as the Ministry of Information, have been zoned to them. The Igbo need to work out a plan that will take them to Aso Rock. First, they need to choose and groom a de-tribalised leader of the Azikiwe mould who can be sold to non-Igbos. Then, they need to give him undiluted support. At the moment the internal politics of the Igbo militates against this. The Igbo seem to hate themselves as much as they hate others. They seem to fight themselves with as much venom as they fight others. Every potential Igbo leader seems to have more enemies within than without. This must not be allowed to continue. The Igbo need to help themselves in order that their friends can help them. In this centenary of Nigeria’s amalgamation, as we embark on the arduous process of crafting our future through a National Conference, we salute the Igbo for their fortitude and implore them to stake their claim in Nigeria. Nigeria cannot survive without the Igbo. Written by: Femi Aribisala Credit: Vanguard.com http://igbobia.com/?q=nigeria-is-dead-without-the-igbos-femi-aribisala-writes-a-must-read.html

Today, the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo met with Igbo leaders of thought at Abuja in continuation with his wide consultations with the leaders from both South East (Igbo) and North, following the ultimate on quit notice issued to ndi Igbo by a coalition of Northern youths a week ago. The Acting President had yesterday met with the northern leaders and deliberated extensively on the issues. Today the leaders of the South East comprising the South East Governors, the Leaders of Ohaneze ndi Igbo, Clerics and others converged to meet with Osibanjo. However, still in attendance, were some northern elites including the Senate President, the Speaker of House of Representatives and some notable political figures.
