As much as I hate the fact that Wike continues to rule Rivers by installing a proxy as a governor, Fubara knows what he signed up for and he knows the consequences of disobeying his master. Nigeria is a terrible country. How can somebody rule for 8 years and still wants to continue ruling through proxy? Also how can Fubara agrees to be a proxy? How can Rivers people vote for Fubara knowing full well that he’s just a proxy?

Travel / Re: After JAPA - How Long It Took To Make Your First 100 Million by yusfaith78(m): 11:25am On Sep 09, 2023
The way in people in Nigeria talk about japa by making it looks like everybody that left Nigeria moved just to go and make money. A lot of people like me moved just because we want peace of mind and also have a good environment where our children grow to be whatever they so wish to become. Before I left Nigeria, I was making good money and I was also travelling to Europe atleast once a year. So it was about money for me and so many others. I think we just got tired of the fact that nothing is working in Nigeria. The poor healthcare system, bad roads that turns journeys of 30mins to hours, the air and noise pollution, the education system, the reckless way of driving that usually results deaths of innocent citizens and the most annoying of all, the criminals that call themselves POLICE who are always out to extort hardworking citizens but fails to go after the real criminals (God knows they are Nigerians’ worst enemy even worst than politicians).

I was rich in Nigeria but don’t have peace of mind and stress wanted to kill me. But here I’m comfortable financially and I also have peace of peace of mind. I can walk at anytime of the day with thinking of been hit by a car that’s not roadworthy or Okada neither are there any police looking to harass or extort me.

We cannot all live in abroad neither can we all live in Nigeria. I just feel it wrong to always assume people are leaving Nigeria just because of money.

Travel / Re: Nigerians In The UK Are Really Suffering by yusfaith78(m): 1:44pm On Jul 01, 2023
They way people just condemned UK makes me wonder if it’s the same UK that i’m living in they are talking about. Most students from Nigeria come to the UK having paid just a small portion of their tuition fee as deposit hoping to work and paying the balance while studying which is almost impossible. It is normal for people like that to struggle because I don’t know how somebody who’s on a student visa with 20hrs allowed work time wants to make money to pay tuition fee balance of £9000 within 9 months. But if you have paid your full tuition fee or 80%, I don’t see any reason why your life should not be better than it was when you are in Nigeria after graduation.

Let say you are earning £500 weekly after tax, that’s £2000 every 4 weeks. Assuming your bills is as follows:

2 bedroom house rent £550
Energy £150
Council Tax £100
Water £20
Internet £25
Car Finance £200
Car Insurance £100
Fuelling £100
Feeding £250
Other expenses £100

You will still have about £400 as saving every month which in my opinion is better than earning one million naira before tax in Nigeria considering traffic, lack of constant electricity, poor health care, terrrible educational system etc.

This old man still dey lie.

As old as you are, instead of you to be seeking forgiveness from God.

No president was as corrupt as OBJ and his Vice, Atiku since our returned to democracy, not even GEJ,not even Buhari.

He has the golden opportunity to turn Nigeria around just as that Rwandan president did,but he choose corruption instead,I refused to blame GEJ,Buhari and any future president in this country because the foundation was totally faulty and OBJ/Atiku laid the foundation I'm talking in 99.

God bless you…..I still wonder how people consider OBJ as the best president ever yet nobody has ever name any infrastructural project he started and completed during his 8 years tenure. Infact when OBJ assumed power in 1999, official rate of Naira to dollar 21.89 and he left it at 120 that means Naira lost over 500% in value under his watch no other president has been able to devalue Naira like that. How much was fuel price when he assumes power? How much was every other things when he assumed power and how much were these stuffs when he left. One thing I noticed is Nigerians does even understand what a good governance look like. The only thing he always brag about is the fact that he was able to beg some these countries (except UK who refused) to write off most of our debt and he then pay the rest. But is that what should be any president only achievement for 8 years. OBJ has been nothing but the genesis of our problems at least since the start of new democracy.

She should do administrative review within 28 days of receiving the BRP. I had same issue when I got my dependant visa and after several calls and email, I was told I can only correct it through administrative review and it was corrected within 10 days.

Good Afternoon everyone

My issue is that I have been in the UK for 4 weeks now and I'm yet to receive my BRP, (Though My passport did not come with BRP letter when I went for collection) I have went to the post office more than 4 times and i keep getting the same reply that my BRP has not arrive.

To cut the lost story short I mail the BRP DEPARTMENT and the reply I got really confused me. These is the reply below:

Thank you for your enquiry.
You will not receive a BRP as your visa is valid for less than 6 months
Accordingly, you should use the Entry Clearance vignette you have been issued in your passport to enter the UK and evidence of your right to be here.

NOTE: I applied for a dependant visa with my wife (She is the student) and did Biometric the same day but she has got her own BRP and her Passport came with BRP letter
I did not know where they see 6 month visa

What can I do?

Call this number and explain the situation to them, they will advise you on what to do. I got someone who had similar issue last year

Thanks a lot for your breakdown of monthly living expenses. It's shed light on what one should expect to a reasonable extent.

I've come to the conclusion that a majority of this resounding narrative on how the UK has suddenly become difficult to live in, is being pushed by those who didn't run a thorough investigation before embarking on their japa journey, while those who are doing quite well, do not bother to respond to those complaints.

A Band 5 NHS nurse can earn roughly £1,550 - £1,650 monthly after tax while working just 3 days a week. If she decides to take up agency roles on her free days, she can comfortably double that pay. Now factor in joint income from both spouses and you'll get a basic idea of how much they stand to earn.

I think it just boils down to running a proper investigation, asking the right questions from the right people, before making that japa decision.

The UK tends to favour certain professions, come rain or shine, so one has to think well, choose wisely, set financial targets and live within one's means.

My viewpoint may change as time progresses and I get older, but I think it's best to live in the UK to build life savings and eventually move to another country with a lower cost of living but still has access to good healthcare.

Thanks once again for your post.

God bless you as you. I just hate it when people that have not even been to the airport before start telling people what they have zero knowledge about. If a family living in the UK can comfortably save £1,000 a month without affecting the standard of living, I see no reason people that are not earn much in Nigeria should not consider relocating. It our duties to give the right informations to those that needs it but no some chooses to be enemy of progress instead

Exactly,Nigerians want a near perfect environment like the west where they get away with anything and everything, no sense of responsibility. Everyone wants to be wealthy in nigeria at all cost without actually working hard/smart for it.
The other one is saying every Nigerian should create generational wealth

Nigeria is truly finished

I have been on Nairaland long enough to know that some people will sleep and have a dream that they have a good job and big money then they will wake up and come online to brag about what they actually don’t have. I just ignore them. To prove my point look at this one that has been condemning people that relocate to the UK.

I moved to the North West region of the UK where cost of renting house is very low. I live very close to Manchester now and I was living close to London before moving so cost of renting house is high in London area. As per how much I spend on food, I would say it about £400 monthly that because we are only Nigerian food and Nigeria foodstuffs are very expensive here. Clothing depends on which brand you want to buy and the occasion so there’s no fix amount for that but what we usually do is at the beginning of summer, all the major designers will do summer sales up to 50% off for summer wears and buy we buy our summer wears same thing will happen again at the beginning of winter then occasionally we can buy cloths if we want. Also note clothes last longer here because the environment and the quality of the cloth. I hope this answer your questions

l love your honesty and openness, it would go a long way in helping us understand the responsibilities ahead, my question is how come your rent remained same for both one bedroom flat and 3 bedroom flat and you did not state money spent on food and clothing

Imagine telling you co worker that you now remove diapers after leaving a bank manager job in nija .no body does .....

I honestly don’t know why you are asking me these questions because I don’t know any of those people. You are the one that know them and you are the one that hear their stories so I can’t tell you anything about what they might be going through as I didn’t hear their stories from them. I shared my stories for those that might find it useful. We can not all stay in Nigeria some of us will relocate abroad some will prefer Nigeria so will even leave the their country and move to Nigeria. Meanwhile not everybody that move to UK will be successful and also not everybody that stay in Nigeria will be successful that’s life. There’s no need for insults

Alot of them just want a normal life all this wealth stuff, dem no send.

You are totally right. Some people over do it and like I always say, one needs to spend more time with his or her family. Everything shouldn’t be about making money

This same Europeans fled their own continent especially the Irish, English and Germans to America, Australia, south africa etc at some point in the 1800s. The concept of generational wealth today in the west cant hold water. you may struggle and build, build an estate, pay for your kids tuition leave assets for them. Yet the same children gamble it or lavish it all when you are gone. hahahah

Thank you…..people forget that it’s not everybody that want to be billionaires some just want a peaceful and decent life. Life is not just about money

Well you can say whatever you want because it easy to talk and you can also call me whatever you want because it’s easy to judge but my only advise to you is to keep it up

AstraDroid:

At what age will you return back to your country with your family?

You are an economic migrant, and you should be focused on how to grow generational wealth instead of having a pleasant life time while your kids will continue the 9-5.

I believe an average African should be planning 2 generations ahead. I do not see Europeans and Americans trooping enmasse out of their countries to Africa because of flu. You seem to be excited about escaping the harsh environment instead of feeling sad that you couldnt change it for good.

You are designed to conquer your environment and improve the Gene Programming of your Ancestors while evolving with the environment.

Dont be selfish.

Living in the UK has it pros and cons but in my own case the pros when compare to the cons is 80:20. I will share my story not because I want to encourage people to leave Nigeria but just to let people know the true state of things. Sometime I read some ridiculous things on Nairaland and I usually ask myself if I’m living in the same UK with these people. People have different reasons for migrating and we are all not in the same situation in Nigeria before. I was a business person in Nigeria but government policies coupled with the toxic business environment began to affect my business. I left Naija with my wife not just because my crumbling business but also because I was getting sick on a regular basis because my immune system can no longer fight Malaria effectively and the fact that there’s a 50% chance that a kid raised in Nigeria will end up doing Yahoo Yahoo not because you are a bad parent but due to the high level of unemployment and the environment which has been polluted with fraud and corruption and I want my kids to live a good life.

I moved to UK in January 2020 on a student visa, my wife as student, myself the dependant. She was going to school while I was working full time in as a support worker, she also worker as support worker when she’s not going to school like she does 20 hrs a week while I do mostly 50hrs a week. We earn combine total of £2500 monthly after tax. Then we were living in a one bedroom apartment (room and parlour flat) with total bill of £950 Monthly (rent = 650, council tax = £82, water = £24, internet = £24, Electricity averaging £80, phone bill £20 and monthly bus pass for 2 of us £70 (35£ each)). We always have more than £1500 for ourself after bills.

After her graduation we decided to move to North West of the UK where house rent are a lot cheaper because we now have a baby and we thought we would need a bigger home. So we got 3 bedroom detached house (duplex) for £650 per month our council tax increases to approximately £110 monthly because my wife is no longer a student, energy bill also increases several time in the last year but we currently paying £154 monthly. Water, phone bill , Internet and Bus pass remain the same as before which brings our current total bill to about £1100 monthly and both earn combine total of £3200 after tax for working combine total of 77.5hrs weekly.

As for the GP and NHS that somebody mentioned above, I have never had any issue getting medical help with my GP whenever I booked appointment with my GP I get attended to by a doctor same day. As for the queue with NHS (the big Hospital), if you have a life threatening issue, you will be attended to immediately. They only put you on queue if your case is not emergency and that’s because the NHS is currently struggling to recruit doctors and nurses so it’s not as bad as people make it look.

For me, moving to the UK is the best decision I have ever made because I believe I raise my kids in a good environment where they have a chance to follow their dreams, secondly my immune system has improved a lot because I’m finally free of mosquitos lol and lastly I have peace of mind which is very important in our life.

So if your wish to leave Nigeria for any country, just to Google and search answers for all your questions and see if it will be a good choice or not because trust me Nigerians will never tell you the truth that what I have learned. Good luck
