Gurus in the house...i need your opinion and help please

i paid for solar plus inverter back in January this year at a cost of over N700000 for which the installer supplied a 2.4kv prag inverter plus two GDM 200Ah batteries and three 300w flames mono solar panel with a roy solar controller so its safe to say that the installer made a very very good profit on my job because if I had bought all that myself and called him to just install, the materials won't cost me more than 525k as at then and am sure he can't charge me 200k for just installation

but i wanted to avoid issues so I let him buy everything and avoid "i am not the one that bought it, i just installed it" issues but unfortunately those issues i wanted to avoid
all came back now making it turn out to be the worst purchase i ever did in my life.

first off...i knew that solar was fishy as its mostly reading arnd 7 to 11A even under bright hot sun.

from day 1..i hardly got 20A charging frm the solar(frm my calc..900w solar should give upto 40A at 24v)...so even at full sunny day..once phcn doesn't bring light for a full day..inverter goes down arnd 6 to 7pm..now the solar charging is so bad that if nepa takes light frm morning, the inverter goes off mid day arnd 1-2 pm when the sun is at its brightest

just 6 weeks after installation, the useless prag inverter gave up..thats when i knew something was fishy 100%...the inverter would be supplying light to mains when in battery mode..had to take it in to warranty repairs.

now the inverter hardly gives 3.5 hrs backup down frm about 9 hrs when it was new in january(same load)..this is something less than 4 months old and has never worked for more than 7 weeks at a time without going nuts

usually nepa takes light by 12 midnight and bring by 4am....now even b4 4am..dis unverter would be screaming low battery and shutdown anything frm past 3am...just dissappointing for a setup costing over 700k

the installer is very nonchalant because i paid him in full so he doesn't seem to care. always forming busy and like he is doing me a favour to even respond to my messages

lesson av learnt so far is never pay any technician/artisan in full upfront and also never ever buy a prag inverter...never..dat brand is just useless!!!

can u believe that after the inverter packed up just 6 weeks after installation, it took this idiot installer another 6 weeks to show up and take it to the service center?

later...dey will say its village people when its just deir stinking attitude thats killing their prospects

if i had been on installment with this proud fool that installed this nonsense..he would have been forced to fix all this

now to why am here..any suggestions on how I can at least get arnd 6-7 hrs backup regularly?

because as it is...the prag inverter is crap(i mean i knw many ppl on luminous that has worked for years)

the solar is semi crap

now it seems the battery too is giving up

all these barely 4 months after installation that cost over 700k

ppl just don't have fear of God in this country

load is about 4 fans, 3 energy bulbs, 2 lcd TVs and 2 laptops

I myself I v nt been a fan of prag, jst an overpriced nonsense, the only feature I lyk in prag is the dod feature, wher u can set d dod of ur Ba3s, 4 instance u set at 50%, it means it shuts dwn at 50% depth of discharge, that way u protect ur Ba3s and they last longer..
I tink that feature comes from their 4kva and above, u see dt other one dt luks lyk stab(wit disco light) is jst an overpriced nonsense... There are still things you can do to save the situation. Start from the controller, upgrade to Mppt, get additional panels, boost charge the batteries individually to break sulphasion etc

Sigh, are you for real though? something was telling me to wait till the sun goes down, but i had to disobey my gutt.

when the installer installed it, he didn't put a dc breaker between the solar panels and the charge controller. it would have been so easy to switch the solar off, if i had that.

i didn't know it was common knowledge here, sigh, should have been following this thread more closely.

wish i could afford another mppt at this time, like your EP, but, maaaan, sigh, wtf is all this bad luck though

I will just have to pick up a cheap pwm in the mean time.


Quick question, whenever you install your new battery bank, do you charge the batteries individually first before you series/parallel them I'm thinking maybe these ones where imbalanced from the start.

Sorry bro, jst contact a professional to audit ur system, so u v in mind things to replace wen the fund is available. gel Ba3s are fragile compared to AGM.

Hello everyone, I'm planning on increasing my solar panels, I currently have a total of 780 Watts (130w x 6) arranged in 2*3. Although, My new cc max PV is 1500w at 24v, which I plan to maximise. My problem is can I add 6 more panels (in 2*3) which will total 1560 (a little above the specified max pv). The cc is Fangpusun flexmax mppt60a.
Also, any idea on a good tier one 130w PV?

Even though today started hazy and there was initially poor output, the sun came out in full force by 8:30am
max power = 2,354W out of 2,700W
max current = 32.64A
energy generated = 186AH
Charge from 49.1% at 7am to 98.8% by 2pm, even with full house load on

Thanks to Zeestone, I have been able to get an improved yield from my panels using a combination of the following:
* Added 3 x 300W panels to the existing 1800W
* Oriented the panels from a shaded part of the compound to a more sunny one (still ground-mount though)
* Changed the panel arrangement from 2Sx3P to 3Sx3P (voc from 88V to 132V)

Statistics before:
* Controller wakes up at 7:30am
* Maximum power output is 1306W from a 1800W array
* Max output current ever was 21A
* Average daily ampHours generated is 38AH (even without loads on)
* Degraded output as from 3:15pm due to shading. Output drops to zero by 6:30pm

After reconfiguration:

* Controller starts working from 6:45am
* I've seen up to 1,897W and 26.4A output from the (now) 2700W array, and it's not even midday yet
* About 64.9AH already generated before 12 noon
* From 75% SOC, batteries (4 x 200AH, 48V) are already in absorb (which, for me, usually starts at approx 97%) by 11:30am
* Panels still receiving sunlight and generating up to 150W by 6:30pm as at yesterday evening (no shading)

Also, he organized a neat job for my backboard, considering the mess I put together by myself before

250 + 350 will not give 600 because the 350 panel will be dragged down and behave like the 250 one

so you'll be getting circa 500 instead.

This model is the UniT UT210E - it does AC and DC amps readings up to 100amps off the clamp as well as AC and DC voltage readings and resistance/continuity measurements as well as having a non-contact AC voltage detector (like a posh tester so you don't touch a live circuit. It does not do AC Frequency (Hz) readings. You would need a different UniT model for that.

Though a low budget chinese product the UniT UT210E is a very capable performer with it's readings well in line with the more premium Fluke, Agilent, Amprobe, Klein e.t.c meters. It has been heavily reviewed on various forums and found not wanting in performance as well as very good value for money.

Just for laughs , I am including a picture of my growing collection of Fluke and Amprobe meters. I am finding accurate metricing/metering to be a favorite pass-time for me.
