Disagreements are normal and our perspectives are different thus we may not agree on everything as you noted your 15 years experience is different from my 7-8 months encounters in Canada. It will be a great thing if people learn bits and pieces from each others experiences.
It is very painful to see people dissatisfied when they move to Canada with high expectations and get disappointed. I also faced a lot of disappointment in the GTA housing market and wished I read about people's encounter and prepared myself better. Kept extending my stay at an air bnb till I ended up spending 4 months at an air bnb (CAD12,000 +). Imagine if I had a wife and kids. Met two people who ended up renting a home (one at pickering and another Welland) at a place they didnt desire to live in but had to because they couldn't rent at more desirable areas. Boredom, loneliness and dissatisfied with couple blaming each other. Nobody likes to go down lower than where they are that's why companies retrench workers once the economy is in recession . Nobody likes to go from being a professional worker to a menial worker thus I like to encourage professional workers migrating from Nigeria to Canada to try to utilize all possible avenues to transition to a professional or better roles in Canada instead of accepting that its the norm to start as a menial worker.

On another hand support systems are hard to come by among Nigerians in Canada thus the average nigerian moving to Canada needs to plan as well as possible. Glad I came to canada with enough money to finance my 4 month air bnb stay and deposit 3 months rent as a condo. Otherwise things would have been harder than it was

....I love your perspective to life....You have got a great and positive mindset..That has made the universe to align greatly in your favor.



Keep it up.....If say nay Ontario be my target,I for make out time to see you whenever I enter...but me dread Ontario despite it having a lot of jobs in my area of endeavors.I prefer the prairie region.

Because like every society Canada is different from what most of us are used to and has its own difficulties. Some things we take for granted in Nigeria are difficult to get in Canada and vice versa. Thus adjusting to the new environment usually takes time for most people. From the point of view of Nigeria these are some of the issues most people face:

1. Finances. Standard of living in Canada is high thus cost of living is also high. The average Nigerian immigrant to Canada has most likely put in some years of work in Nigeria and elsewhere with savings or an investment such as a home. However, the naira is weak and most people tend to sell off all they’ve worked for before moving to Canada. When they eventually move to Canada they spend all these monies on air bnb & other basics. Would have been better if they were able to reinvest some of these funds in Canada instead of starting from the scratch. In my opinion a soft landing enables one to spend less money and explore the option of getting a job as soon as possible.

2. Credit- Canada runs a credit-based economy. Thus without credit it is difficult to buy a car, rent a home and do many other things except you are paying out of pocket. Your credit report and score influence the outcome of many applications you’ll make thus getting a credit card is one of the first things you’ll need to get after the social insurance number. A score of 700 or higher is the threshold most people find comfortable. Unfortunately Canadians tend not to bend their rules or show understanding towards newcomers with lower scores. Thus a soft landing offers one the opportunity to get a credit card and begin to build their credit scores before making the eventual move.

3. Housing- getting a house in Canada (especially Ontario ) is one of the toughest challenges newcomers face. A lot of barriers exist (lack of rental history in Canada, low credit score , lack of job history in Canada , racial discrimination, competitive rental market…). This problem has pushed many families to start out in very tough conditions moving from one air bnb to another and running out of money easily . Some have even had their relationships with friends and family ruined over this. You tell your friend you’ll spend one month in his house and after a month you’re unable to get a house while your friend/host expects you to honour your word by moving out after a month. You find a family of four moving from one basement air bnb to another . I always wondered why the father didn’t move to Canada first before other members of the family . A man can endure these, get a house after a few months before the wife + kids join him.

4. Job market- Not everyone is lucky to land a job within a short time. I got a job before moving to Canada but for some people it takes a while to land a job. Staying in Canada without a job can push people to take up menial jobs or survival jobs which ordinarily they wouldn’t want to. I have seen videos where people preach about survival jobs being an entry point to the Canadian job market. I don’t agree with that narrative. Survival jobs should be the last option . I got a job in my field before even landing in Canada. More and more people have been able to do so as well.

5- Soft landing allows you to have first hand ur experience of what living in Canada is like and enable you to plan your move better. Thanks

#2 ..Is it possible to build a credit score through soft landing?? My understanding of soft landing is a situation whereby you come in ,get your PR and leave for your country to return in some years or months time..I don't know if that is also what you have in mind??

I asked because my understanding of your explanation/post above is that a partner should come to Canada first, hustle, establish and then bring in his family...Is that what you meant?

I want to believe that housing and jobs shouldn't be an issue in other provinces unlike Ontario

I know 481 is a cool score but my problem is the occupation demand they are switching to which will commence starting from April, I wish I get an ita before this whole will start.

481 is a great score. With patience ITA will come. Regarding packing things please plan plan plan. I’m not a fan of just travelling after securing a visa without making adequate plans. I am an advocate of soft landing before the eventual move .

Hello Guys, please I need a sincere and matured advise on what to do. This will be long, please bare with me.

I'm 27, am a businessman, I have this girl I really love so much and intend to marry her this year December, but one thing about her is her bad character. She challenge me, talk back at me, shout at me, get angry with me for days, refuse to cook when she is angry, disrespect my family, most especially my mum, always trying to paint herself good and paint me bad in presence of people, these are just little of the things she has done to me.

Last year November, she told me she haven't seen her mum for 5years and wanted to travel to see her, I spent close to 200k to take her to and fro, including other things she needed. She insisted on collecting the bride price list for me when coming back, I spoke to her mum and they gave her to give me. I was planning to finalize all on the weeding this year.

Last year DECEMBER, I took her to my family to introduce her, but this was the biggest mistake of my life. She was completely disrespectful to my mum, talks to me anyhow in presence of anyone, even to the extent of refusing to cook for me anytime she is angry, I go to kitchen and prepare food myself.

I love this girl so much but I still thought of continuing, with all this attitudes, I advise her everyday, I also took her to my pastor who advise her too most of the times, but she never changes.

Fast forward to 2days ago, we had issues because she told me to join her in washing and I refused because I was working on a client project, she got angry, washed the clothes and when it was evening she brought the clothes inside, folded her own in the wardrobe and just threw mine into the wardrobe without folding or arranging them. I was angry about this, but I kept mute. The next day, she sent me "sorry" on WhatsApp, I told her to come to me physically and apologize but she told me she can never do that, and why was she even apologizing, that she did nothing wrong, we exchanged words and she left my house.

Today, she called me and told me she is pregnant, and that I should send her money to remove it. I was like "just like that"? We didn't discuss about it, how will you just tell me you want to terminate my pregnancy, I told her to go to hospital and confirm it and also get the test report, she did this and sent to me, it was true she is pregnant, but she insisted on removing it, I persuaded her and she still refused, claiming she can't be a single mother. I told her I will take responsibility, but she insisted on removing it, I told her to go home and think about it, and she told me she can't leave there without removing it. After so much persuading I decided to give her the money, and told her if she removed it, that it's on her, that I didn't consent to this.

I asked her why we can't keep it, and she said because my family is bad, we support evil, if the sky is blue, we say it's red, that my mother is a bad woman, and she doesn't want to come there. She said so many bad things about my family, I was shocked! I asked her, how are they bad, she said "how can my mother be telling her to wash my clothes" I was just confused, After all I have done for you, is it bad if you wash your husband to be clothes, I left her!

Later she told me the doctor referred her to another hospital, I still tried to persuade her and she said her decision is final. She asked me to give her money to go to the hospital she was referred to, I refused! I insisted that we keep the baby, she told me "I'm a nobody, that she will call now and she will get money to go" I angrily blocked her. Later, she called my other line and told me, she went to the other hospital and the doctor told her, the cost to remove the pregnancy is 125k, she told me and I insisted on keeping the baby.

Please guys help.me, I don't want to terminate my first child, the girl is too disrespectful and rude, I don't want to continue with such woman, but she is carrying my baby, what do I do? And if she later agree to keep it, how do I go about it?

If you look at the target of 400k plus people next year and less than 300k in the Express Entry Pool, even if refugees and other channels are increased, the 460s still have a chance this year! No need to cross your fingers, use them to prepare your move.

...460? I doubt o unless through targeted draws. The 400k you mentioned aren't only for EE.In fact,the allocation for FSW this year is less than 90k...So,pray how did you come about your calculations/prediction

I am here going through the thread and wondering why no one is talking about the NOC system changing to the Teer System.
So my bother and sister in law just entered the pool on Dec 31st 2022. with 453 score, I came to read thread to see if the score is still important since they are moving to in-demand occupation like PNP uses.

Please my Elders, if you have any information on this new Teer system please share with me.

The consultant I contacted to help with their express entry advised that I should hold on with enrolling them to take BCS IT course that the draw will be resumed in April according to what IRCC told them and he believes CRS score will no longer determine ITA but the Occupation.
