Sigh. We should be thinking of how to advance the nation via science and technology and other means and not all these debates about personal gratification from paying tithe.

Next thing now someone would come and say tithe helped him secure visa to a country that doesn't believe in paying tithe. undecided

How much again is the budget for education? Less than 10%

This is sad. We all should be worried.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Companies Are Using Linkedin To Search For The Right Candidates by zibe(m): 10:13pm On Mar 03, 2018
You're right and this isn't a new thing. Was contacted all the way from South Africa by the HR of one of the companies there to interview for a position in their Nigerian subsidiary. I missed out on that cos of work sha.

Was contacted by another investment bank in Nigeria for another senior role, on same LinkedIn but sadly found out I wasn't the right fit after seeing the job descriptions.

A third one I got, I couldn't make it to the interview as I was out of the country hence I referred it to a colleague of mine instead.

It's just one of those ways that recruiters can put a face to the CV I guess. Besides most recruiters alreadg have what they are looking for, hence why one's name or profile would appear when they search for those key words.

There should be at least two of this in every state in Nigeria and more research institutes too.

@Spyroxy1, I say congrats ooo (in line with the grapevine).

It will end in praise especially for Accountants and Auditors who DHA wants to turn to superhuman point gatherers. grin grin grin

No be small point gatherers o. Very frustrating something. Apparently the whole thing favours those already in Aussie.

I was going through expatforum and seeing how many of them (Accountants) were making 80 points without experience o. Once they finish school na PR application straight, then they'll combine it with NAATI, Aussie schooling, Professional Year. All these ones plus our normal points don turn 80 points already.

Wicked people grin .

UNN degree. It is a hard choice that you have to make. Either 10 points for Associate Degree with the opportunity to claim points for work experience or 15 points for ICAN but without work experience.

Hi. Please I sent you a pm. Kindly respond. Thanks

Yes. Experience assessment is not compulsory. DIBP will verify your work experience claim with relevant supporting documents.

Thanks a lot. One more thing: In this case would the "other degree recognised by assessing body" refer to the ICAN or UNN degree they've assessed as Associate Degree? Thanks a lot.

@ZIBE,

From what I read in the result, there is no harm in creating an expression of interest with the Associate Degree. Leave DIBP to use its discretion to verify your work experience.

The guy I told you about was expected to hold at least a Bachelor Degree based on the ANZCO code for his occupation. Today, he has a grant.

Since you have all the documents ready to create EOI, do it and leave the rest to fate. But, remember to select "other award recognised by the assessing authority" in the skillselect.

Just my advice.

Thank you

Hmm. Thank you... in trhat case they'd be no need submitting the experience assessment outcome if they call for it?

I am not sure if assessing with CA ANZ will make any difference. I assessed with them and my ICAN wasn't considered but my first degree was assessed as equivalent to Australian BA. I will just advise that you go through your school's syllabus and CA ANZ website to be sure the courses you did are in sync with those required.

Truly, I feel for we Accountants/Auditors but if you can afford it, a shot at Canada won't be a bad idea as Accountants are in 'demand' there.

It is well.

Sigh. I submitted syllabus o and made sure to check that the courses were in sync with what is on their website.

Just don't wanna gamble with another assessment if it'll bring up the same result.

Thank you for the input.

@ZIBE

Is it possible for you to make use of the Associate Degree while still claiming points for your work experience or was it expressly stated in the Assessment Report that you cannot use the Associate Degree equivalence? You will only lose 5 points and get 10 points for "other award recognised by assessing authority". Someone here shared a story that he got a grant with an assessment outcome that read Associate Degree though not accountant.

Could you please share the exact words from the assessment outcome? So far, I have been moving progressively with the Canadian PR but my heart is with the Aussie.

Thank you.

I'm not yet sure if this would be possible. I understand that Auditors/Accountants need their qualifications to be comparable to a Bsc for migration purpose. Please see the attcached results I got. Thanks

@Zibe,

Did the report says your experience will not be recognised?

Something of that sort. It says since the experience is not up to 12 months yet from when I became an ACA (May 2017), it can't be assessed.

Hi Guys, I'm currently in a confused state. Maybe those that have assessed as accountants and auditors would be able to advise me better on the way forward with the below.

I got my CPA assessment result and while they assessed my ICAN as being equivalent to Australian BSc, they assessed my Bsc from UNN as not being equivalent to their Bsc but associate degree. The issue however is that I only just got inducted to ICAN last year, hence I will not be able to claim experience points as they start counting experience from when one's result is assessed as being equivalent to Australian Bsc.

I have 5 years of experience and this would mean me forfeiting the whole years, hence my point dropping to 65, rather than the planned 75. I had planned going for state nomination to up it to 80 but apparently this wouldn't be the case anymore.

Should I assess with another body? (CA ANZ in this case), to see if they would recognise my BSc as being equivalent to Australian Bsc, or should I just take the result as it is and move on with my life by trying Canada or so. Cos there's no way I'm getting PR with 65 points as an external auditor, not even with state nomination.

Your inputs would be really appreciated please. Thank you. cc bellong, praiseisgood and all others that can advise.

Hi. Sorry about the experience you've had. It'll be nice if you can also state the area in Melbourne so prospective immigrants can take note.

And yes, you can try other parts of Melbourne or another state entirely.

I met an angel today. Literally speaking.

So, I was on the road driving and like 4 mins to my destination, na so fuel finish right in the middle of the road shocked and just before the traffic light. Within seconds cars don full my back on a 3 way lane.

Here comes this guy, out of nowhere - Long hair, skinny, tattoo everywhere, sleeveless denim jacket and driving some very old rickety 1960-something Ford Mustang or so.

Steps out his car and says "you need a push mate?". I said yes, certainly. I sat in the car while he pushed the car closer to the traffic light to turn right so that traffic could continue moving again.

Then he goes, what's the problem with the car? I said just ran out of fuel. He said open the gas tank. I did. "Hmmm..Unleaded? I can do that" he said. He went into his car and brought out a gallon with petrol and went to fill the car with it himself. shocked

Oh boy! I was speechless. shocked

He said, fire it on. I did. Car start one time. See happiness. I told him you are an angel. He replied that his car is old and without a fuel guage so he basically carries some fuel/petrol along just in case.

I was shocked and overwhelmed by his generosity. We shook hands and off he went his way. I told him "you are an angel"

I drove to the nearest BP station to fill up the tank sharp sharp. And I can't just remember if I've ever experienced anything like that. There are still and definitely some very nice people in this world.

Now this is what humanity should be about cool cool

I hope to emulate such character. Australia it is grin

Guys, please what do you do when the HR is the one to send your reference? This is because I need the reference aligned to the duties and responsibilities as specified in the ANZCO code for external auditors.

Is it possible to submit two references from one firm? One from the HR and another from a manager there? I wanted to use the manager but he said he can't use the firm's letterhead but will put his complimentary card as part of the reference, while that for HR will have the letterhead on it, but may not fully be aligned to what CPA wants to see. I had already drafted the reference but the HR is saying they already have a template they can't deviate from.

Please advise.

On another note, got my 20 points from PTE cool . LSWR: 90 90 90 86. Thanks to you guys for the various links posted here. That's all I used.

Hi @tyosho,

How many points did your hubbys get for skill and education? Did he assess ICAN by any chance? How did he get transcripts from ICAN?

See below link on how to get your ICAN transcript. I'm yet to do mine though, so I'm not sure if that's how it really works. You can also place a call to them I guess.
