applying for visa to belgium is a total waste of time.. you cannot justify the waiting time of 3months. i applied for am exam, they denied it finally after waiting for 2months and 2weeks... you can apply to italy or france they are better, just indicate you intend to vist other schengen country.

TO HELL WITH BELGIUM!!!! what do they really have to offer
I feel you and many have had horrible experiences but the challenge is that if you are visiting Netherlands for short stay visa and you are resident in Abuja or any of the Northern States, the Dutch Embassy specifies that you should apply through Belgium. If you are applying from Lagos or anywhere else in the South to visit Netherlands, you do so through the French Embassy and they are far more liberal/efficient. However, some guys have advised and actually gotten schengen visa to other Schengen countries then from there, they re-route to Netherlands. If you are visiting Belgium directly, then ordinarily, you should apply through their Embassy. I think the Nigerian government should engage the Belgian and Dutch authorities on this. Cant see why Netherlands shouldnt offer full consular services in Nigeria. For MVV (long stay), you even have to go to either Cotonou or Accra, Ghana!
Travel10 Things Every Smart Traveler Must Know by zik4ever(op): 9:02am On Sep 02, 2015
Almost every frequent traveler would like to believe they are ‘smart’ about travelling, but the truth is, becoming a smart traveler is not determined by how often you go on the road or how much money you save on trips, rather it is determined how much you know about traveling in the shrewdest, most stylish way possible. The good thing about travelling smart is that it makes us better and wiser people.

If you are in Nigeria and you are interested in finding out how to be a smart traveler,Jovago.com, Africa’s No. 1 online hotel booking portal has put together 10 key things you must know.

How to launder clothes in a sink

Most hotels offer dry cleaning and laundry services, but if you think about it, the cost per garment is usually overpriced. Every clean person’s little secret is being able to wash clothes on the go and the best way to do that is by using the sink in the bathroom of your hotel room. From luxury to budget travelers, everyone is bound to experience a laundry emergency at some point and forced to launder our own clothes effectively and quickly. Knowing how to wash your own clothes comes in handy.

How to thread a needle and sew

The idea sounds extremely tedious and truth be told, most people do not just bother to learn how to sew. However, when traveling, unpredictable things occur. You may have a little accident with your clothes or even luggage and may need to repair them. Learning the fundamentals of sewing, like how to sew on a button can becomes an asset.

The art of haggling

Sometimes, it might just be easy to pay a vendor whatever price he demands, but most times, doing that might cost you much more than you imagine. Vendors have an eye to detect tourist or first timers and so they usually hike up prices for more gain. As a smart traveler, it is important to learn the practice of haggling as it is a vital skill to possess even in Nigeria as a country.

Know how to say “No, thank you,”

Saying “No, thank you” is not necessarily rude, cold or offensive. In most cases, the phrase comes in handy when warding off salespeople. Also, as a smart traveler, it is important to know that you should not be made to do things that you do not want to do or waste time on experiences that are not important to you.

How to travel light

You do not want to be saddled with more luggage than you can carry on any trip…except you are relocating, in which case a moving company might be a better option. No matter where you go and what you do, learning how to be an efficient packer is a very valuable skill. Travelling light saves you a lot of stress and reduces the risk of lost luggage or other related travel nightmares.

How to pack right

There is no glory in travelling light if you have not packed the essentials to your trip. For every journey, whether business or leisure, there are basic things you will need to pack. It should include cash, official documents, medication and cosmetics. A resourceful traveler must know how to make a checklist and ensure that the vital items are not forgotten.

The importance of travel insurance

The necessity of having valid insurance when you embark on a journey cannot be overemphasized. There are a lot we cannot control, so it pays to either be prepared for them or at least have insurance for when these unexpected cases occur. With the practical cases of travel delays and disruptions, medical, theft and loss; picking an insurance plan that will protect you is a smart move.

How to sleep anywhere

It is normal for people to find themselves in cars, planes or trains with free time. At such times, a nap is usually the next best thing to do as a few minutes of sleep can mean the difference between sanity and going nuts. If you have trained yourself to fall asleep anywhere in any situation, traveling should be easy for you.

How to give basic first aid

Accidents are unpredictable; you never know when or where it will happen. Regardless of the uncertainty, smart travelers try to be prepared. Learning how to give basic first aid is not a complex study. You can take a first aid class. This way, you could save a life…maybe even yours.

How to take a decent photo

Most travelers like to capture beautiful or memorable moments while on a trip in pictures. Unfortunately, while almost everyone can take a photograph – thanks to all the smartphones with cameras, not everyone takes ‘great’ photos.

A smart traveler knows it is important to brush up on the basics of photography, that way there will be no need to ask a stranger –who may run away with your gadget – to take the picture.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum cos I don't know what to do anymore, I applied for a Belgium study visa since June and I was told it will take 15 working days but it's 56 work days now and I have not hear nothing from them, though I was called for interview on the 4th of August but it's 1 month since the interview and no update from them, I really don't know what they are doing with the process cos a lot of people are complaining about Belgium visa processing time
You are not alone! Some have had worse experience perhaps and a few have even withdrawn their application. Just fingers crossed at this time. But clearly its sad the way they treat applications and I hear its not unusual of them.
PoliticsAs New Immigration Boss Quits In 3 Months: by zik4ever(op): 12:40pm On Aug 31, 2015
With the confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Kure Martins Abeshi as the substantive Comptroller-General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) by President Muhammadu Buhari, last Thursday, a fierce competition has begun among top officials of the NIS to succeed the incumbent who retires in the next three months. Abeshi, whose service record indicates that he was born in 1955 in Nasarawa State, quits in November, paving the way for a new CG.

The contest now brewing in the para-military agency basically involves the seven Deputy Comptrollers-General and no fewer than 22 Assistant Comptrollers-General as well as many controllers of NIS, who believe that they are qualified to serve in that capacity.

Sunday Vanguard investigation reveals that The Presidency might have asked the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board, CDFIPB, which supervises the NIS, to begin the search for a qualified CG from among the top officials.

Findings indicated that the board has already directed the 22 Assistant Controllers-General and Controllers of Immigration to forward their curriculum vitae with immediate effect to it.

Findings also showed that out of the seven DCGs, no fewer than four were due for retirement between January and October next year based on their records of service while three others have between one and three years to go.

The DCGs include Mohammed Babandede, whose record showed that he was born in 1963; Ifeadi Emmanuel Udochukwu, 1956; Malgwi Henry Yasika, 1958; Olaitan Joseph; Adike Chibueze John,Ibrahim Abba, one Gbenga and Abiodun Towanu.

Going by the service records, it is only Babandede, who has the highest number of years to stay in the service while the rest have between one and two years.

Babandede may stand a better chance than others since he is said to have been for many years exposed to foreign missions and attached to other MDAs outside the NIS.

But given that there are many DCGs in the NIS, it is not clear why the board has asked the 22 assistant comptrollers and controllers to forward their bio data to it with immediate effect.

Competent sources said that the board might have widened its search to include the assistant controllers in case adverse security reports affect the DCGs, whose records are already before The Presidency.

It would be recalled that when former President Goodluck Jonathan wanted to appoint a substantive CG for the NIS, he requested for and obtained reports on all the DCGs.

Besides, their performance in the NIS promotion examination was taken into consideration by The Presidency in arriving at the decision to elevate them.

Competent security sources told Sunday Vanguard that although most of the DCGs failed the promotion test and had very negative recommendations standing against them; they were all the same elevated. For instance, a popular DCG, who is one of the leading contestants for the top job, was described as ‘unsuitable and questionable’ by those who assessed him for elevation.

Similarly another DCG, who was simple described as ‘not suitable because of being diligent in duty but ‘tribalistic” by favouring personnel from his religious group, was also recommended and approved for appointment by the President for reasons not made clear.

However, one of them, who was described by assessors as ‘incorruptible, hardworking and accommodating, was inexplicably rejected by the promotion board but was countered and approved for the post. However, only a few of the DCGs had very favourable security reports.

Two of them from the South-South had good recommendation: “The candidate is honest, hardworking and principled,” one of the reports, said.

The Presidency had however waved aside the tribalism allegation levelled against two of the DCGs and confirmed them, arguing that the accusation was not substantiated.

But as the race for the CG’s post hots up, there were allegations last night that one of the candidates was being bankrolled by a top telecoms provider from the South West while a former Interior Minister was backing one of the major candidates from the North.

But of the many contestants, the odds, according to NIS sources, favoured Babandede, Ibrahim Abba, Abiodun Hundeyin and Musa Maza, who is said to be related to an influential member of the NIS board.

It is not clear who among the many would finally clinch the top job, but lobbyists from the northern and southern parts of Nigeria have intensified their efforts to get one of their own to take the beat from the retiring CG.

However, there are fears that President Muhammadu Buhari may spring a surprise like he did with the Customs last week by appointing an external candidate.

Did you notice where it says 250 SSS operatives have been posted to replace those being redeployed? Where are those who reduced it to argument over whether the DSS or military should take charge of the inner ring? I have always said it, the DSS will always work with whoever is the President and will be "loyal" to him. What was in issue was the loyalty of the leadership and some of the operatives to the enw regime and also a scheming to take over the leadership as well as the CSO and AO positions. Since that has been resolved, its back to business. That's the game!

What good will it do you and your family if you withdraw your application now especially after waiting patiently for so long except perhaps you need your passport back urgently? Even if your family can not use the visa again because of school resumptions; try to ignore them until everything about this visa issue finally unfold. Having waited this long, just allow your patience to see you through to the end. At least we have learnt one or two things from all these sagas. I am still waiting to see what they will do with it. I did not even bother checking on them again.
Thanks. Issue is that I applied with specific dates -uptil 15th September. Now, if they issue it by next week or that date, will they extend the visa or are they likely to give us beyond that date?

But seriously, in an economy where oil price is collapsing, this government needs to focus on non-oil earnings. I hear this new Custom boss is even tougher than Buhari so he will really whip Customs to collect duties and account for it. Then the other is FIRS and the appointee there is known for chasing after tax so it may all be for good. InvestmentAngry Chinese Investors Kidnap Stock Exchange Chief Over Collapse Of Market by zik4ever(op): 10:22am On Aug 27, 2015
Furious Chinese investors have raided a hotel, kidnapped the head of a Chinese metals exchange and handed him over to local police, reports said.

Hundreds of angry investorrs swarmed a luxury Shanghai hotel and seized Fanya Metals founder, Shan Jiuliang, as he checked out around dawn on Saturday, The Financial Times reported.

The Fanya exchange's recent issues have contributed to recent turbulence in the Chinese economy, The Times said. China's troubles have sparked turmoil in the global financial markets.

Investors were braced for another volatile day on Wednesday as Asian stocks struggled over fears the fresh interest rate cuts in China would not be enough to stabilise its slowing economy.

The FTSE 100 index opened down by more than one per cent Wednesday morning, bringing on another 'white-knuckle' day as China's stimulus measures failed to spark a sustained rally.

Chinese, Hong Kong and Japanese markets had earlier opened lower and then slightly recovered.

The Chinese benchmark, Shanghai Composite Index – the source of much angst during recent volatility – fell by 3.6 per cent in early trading but bounced back to gain 0.8 per cent to 2,988.76 by the midday break. It closed down by one per cent.

Pictures uploaded to social media website Weibo show several men and women manhandling Mr Jiuliang and bundling him into a waiting vehicle.

In one photograph, he was seen lying on the floor of the hotel, surrounded by the investors, many who reportedly flew in to Shanghai from distant parts of the country.

A distressed Mr Jiuliang was then taken to the nearest police station, The Times said, where Fanya's financial backers demanded police investigate what has happened to their money.

The investors are reportedly upset because they are unable to access funds they put into Ri Jin Bao, one of the company's derivative products, according to Quartz.

Investors were promised their money could be withdrawn at any time, but Fanya has frozen the funds since April.

Quartz reported the capture plan had been hatched on messaging apps and social media sites, such as Weibo.

Police promised to investigate and Mr Jiuliang was eventually released without charge, according to The Times' account.

TravelTurkish Airlines Staff, Selim Tartan Assaults Nigerian Female Traveler by zik4ever(op): 9:34pm On Aug 26, 2015
According to the victim @addictbypawprint, this happened in Instanbul today. And right is the man she captured on camera trying to take her phone. Below is what she wrote,

"I checked in and my boarding pass said I was on stand by. The guy who checked me in told me to go and wait at the gate that I might be lucky to fly. I asked him why I was not informed as I bought a confirmed ticket that I needed to see the manager. Then the manager comes and said I should go and check the website for the terms of Turkish airline because a confirmed ticket did not mean I would definitely get a seat on the flight.

I then asked for him to show me where that was stated on my ticket. Then the guy said I should stand there and keep asking. Meanwhile, there was a family of 5 who had the same problem and we all were displeased so I started taking a video of how he spoke as it was an extremely bad service.

The rest of it was assault. When we got to the boarding gate, 15 people had standby boarding passes. Some passengers had bought their tickets since May. Turkish airline sold seats that had already been paid for and then offered us 300euro compensation.

Before I started with the video, I asked him for his name. He went as far as writing it down for me that I should take this to any where I wanted. Btw, he called the #turkishpolis, when the police saw the video. They asked us to go to the airport management because Turkish Airlines is a big company in the country and there was nothing they could do. They asked us to delete the video but we declined. Airport mgt did not even listen to us. They asked us to go back to Turkish airline."

Any native of Plateau State can confirm that. The Beroms are aboriginal in Plateau North areas like Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom etc where the clashes with Fulanis have more frequently occurred. That said, the killings have gone on for too long and should be treated with the same seriousness as Boko Haram. It cuts across several States including parts of Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue and Taraba etc.
