The NJC recommended Daisy Okocha long ago when Amaechi was Governor. Amaechi rejected her and preferred Agumagu. Wike has implemented the NJC recommendation as it is and she will be the substantive Chief Judge if the House of Assembly ratifies.

This has nothing to do with PDP or APC! The man was a cabinet minister under Jonathan, he was a former PDP national official and ONLY decamped to APC after LOSING the PDP primaries. Enough is enough! It is not "North" alone that sent him back to Otuoke. Even within the North, it is so sad and unfortunate that some Northerners feel that it was their "own North" that won the election. Buhari's election was a popular mandate aligned with the mood of the country. Truth be told, the votes in some Northern States like Benue and Plateau were not so much about Buhari and GEJ but local revolt against the now former State Governors. Buhari has said he is for all of us so these attempts both public and private to hijack him may not work and even if it does, won’t help him or Nigeria. If it was only “North” that wins election, he should have been President before this year’s election.

My brother, I know he hasn’t said anything too different from what the former administration would have said but he just took over yesterday! No vex. I feel your pain -these are real lives that have been cut short but you wouldn’t have insulted your President. It seems to me that Buhari would need to relocate not just the Command Centre, but his Government (NSA, Service Chiefs and the Commander-in-Chief) to Maiduguri.

Fixation with Jonathan could be an unnecessary distraction!. The man has gone.

With due respect to everyone, I don’t see any gain in calling Jonathan clueless or Buhari brainless. Jonathan is gone and Buhari took over 24 hours ago, retaining (at least for now) the same Service Chiefs. The killings are condemnable, reprehensible and unacceptable. Something has to be done to check this Boko Haram madness and other reported and unreported killings across Northern Nigeria; check violent crimes including armed robbery and kidnapping across the country. We don’t expect miracles but surely, Buhari's tenure should be very easy to assess! I really don’t envy him. Rather, I wish him well. This thing is really a problem and all national resources and might must be applied to deal with it to its roots. Beyond Boko Haram, religious radicalism is a time bomb and I can tell you, some other radical elements are still underground. For all those lobbying to be National Security Adviser etc that we read about online, I hope they are up to it and not just singing regional or sentimental song to get the job?

Let me state clearly that I do not support the idea of appointing the editor-in-chief of The Sun Newspapers, Femi Adesina as Buhari’s spokesman.

I have nothing personal against Mr. Adesina but I believe his appointment would breed peer enmity and transfer of anger.

Adesina is the man who authorised the publishing of the hyper-defamatory advert against President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari. Well, he can be forgiven and given the job — that is in the absence of ANY capable hand in the APC.

You think I want Garba Shehu or any Hausa-Fulani to take the job? No! Shehu is over-qualified to take the job but I don’t want Buhari to make the mistake Jonathan did. Let the position even go to the East, if there is any qualified man that supported the cause. Political efforts are rewarded on earth not after death. Jonathan made the mistake of not appointing his key spin masters from the North. This could have made him gain acceptability and give his administration a good image where his image was so badly tarred.

In the APC fold, there are seasoned journalists who actively participated in the change crusade. People like Dele Alake and Dele Momodu played a good role in the Buhari project. It is also not bad if you give Lai Mohammed the position. It is a cabinet position, after all.

Adesina seems to be a consistent supporter of Buhari but I don’t want others who put pragmatic efforts and staked their jobs and businesses to the cause to lose out.

In a recent paper he delivered, Adesina explained that he had to “tone down” the Fayose advert against Buhari before it was published.

Read below my argument after Adesina’s paper about a week before ThisDay broke the story of Adesina’s appointment:

“Let me first ask Mr Femi Adesina, the editor-in-chief of The Sun newspapers, if the “tone down” version of the damaging advert against Buhari, which he authorised his paper to publish, was ethically right. He would say no, I suppose.

“To me, the advert was not only against the ethics but against the law of the journalism profession. In journalism, as in all professions, while adherence to law is mandatory, adherence to ethics is voluntary.

“Before the general election, two Nigerian dailies, The Sun and The Punch, ran defamatory adverts sponsored by Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State against the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

“Adesina’s defence that he toned down the copy only exposed his culpability. Nigerian journalists should have the courage to take the side of the law and ethics, not the side of the dictate and diktat of their publishers.

“As the current president of Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), Adesina is least expected to publish the defamatory advert. It is ironical that Adesina, expected to set standard for the profession, is the chief violator of professional law and ethics. No reprimand. No sanction. No censure.

“Now get the crux of the matter: Instead of members of the guild to call for his resignation, Adesina was recently re-elected for another two-year term! This tells you the colour of the lot that paint the guild. Quacks, jaded broadcasters, jobless journos, unpaid staffers of nondescript media outfits, corporate panhandlers and a very few qualified journalists.

Notwithstanding the above reflection, the mother organisation, NUJ, is worse than NGE. It is a pariah association where unethical conducts form part of its commandments.

Some persons in our society sometimes act on misinformation! As far as I recall, the reporter only published a story by someone who said Al-Makura shouldn’t be sworn in. Some of these thugs probably didn’t read that publication. It’s either the thugs were sponsored or the thugs are educated people who were literate enough to have read the publication and should have been morally literate enough not to resort to violence.

Newly sworn-in Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, on Friday said his new administration would, among other policies, pursue amnesty for members of Boko Haram who are ready to de-radicalise.

Mr. Shettima, who took an oath of office to serve for yet another four years alongside his deputy, Zannah Mustapha, said he would lobby the new federal government of President Muhammadu Buhari to consider granting amnesty to the militants.

Messrs Shettima and Mustapha were sworn in by the state’s chief judge, Kashim Zannah, at the Ramat Square, amidst tight security mounted by soldiers and police officers.

Mr. Shettima’s second inauguration, although low-key, was attended by guests from within and outside Nigeria.

The governor lamented the plight of the millions of Borno residents squatting at various camps of Internally Displaced Persons at the time he was being sworn-in.

Mr. Shettima said his next four years would be dedicated to rebuilding destroyed and lost communities and also pursuing policies that would create jobs and empower the youths.

“I do not intend to spoil the celebration mood today but I simply cannot ignore the fact that as we are gathered here, looking good and so full of excitement, thousands of our fellow sons and daughters of Borno, old and young, including babies that are few days old, are displaced in their own land and country,” he said.

He added that the sad tales of destructions and the faces of “our displaced sons, daughters, brothers and sisters,” told the true story of Borno today.

The governor, who described his swearing in as “a very special day in the long history of Borno”, said his second mandate was in recognition of the effort his administration made in the past four years, “to touch your lives in several areas of human endeavour”.

He acknowledged, however, that the last four years were certainly some of the most tragic and challenging in the thousand-year history of Borno.

“We have gone through the most savage insurgency of the Boko Haram sect, which massacred thousands of our people; especially destroying the cream of Borno youth and ensuring that into the next generation, we will be faced with a demographic crisis that will challenge our creative ingenuity, to overcome,” he said.

The governor said, in spite of all these, his government still managed to remain focused to build the “basic blocks of development, in agriculture, education and empowerment.”

“And we never for a moment abandoned our people,” Mr. Shettima said. “The people appreciated how we worked with sincerity, with commitment and always defending their best interests.”

Mr. Shettima lambasted the government of Goodluck Jonathan, referring to it as “a hostile Federal Government, which lived in denial about the savagery of Boko Haram and which also saw the insurgency from the most perverted, narrow and irresponsible prism, that somehow, the insurgency had been fuelled against it, by the political and other elites of this part of Nigeria.”

“They therefore did only the barest and most perfunctory, to stem the problem. Meanwhile, our people suffered and our communities were systematically laid to waste,” he said. “Democracy became the saving grace for the people.

“With our votes, we threw out a government at the centre, which did not work in the national interest and have now voted into power, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is also being inaugurated into power today in Abuja.”

Mr. Shettima said the people of Borno now have the opportunity to put their problems before a “listening president, who would be willing to assist us with utmost dispatch, to accelerate our development.”

He said in the next four years, he would need the support of all citizens in the quest to rebuild the devastated communities of Borno state.

He promised an all-inclusive “growth that would focus on reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction – the three Rs.

He also reiterated his readiness to give members of Boko Haram a chance for amnesty.

“Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition that will be hallmarked by the continuing destruction of lives and property, it becomes imperative that willing members of the Boko Haram sect that want to come out of the bush must be given the opportunity to be de-radicalized and then rehabilitated to become useful citizens of society,” he said.

“It is never easy to accept back into the community, those who have taken up arms, killed, pillaged, raped and destroyed. But in the long run, society must make very expensive choices for peace, reconciliation and development. We are therefore appealing to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the International Community to assist our endeavour in that regard.”

Agumagu is the most senior judge in Rivers state judiciary, although he is not in d high court.by tradition ,the of chief judge of a state has always been selected from d high court. The constitution says the most senior judge with no specific reference to the high court. I understand that justice Agamagu is still in court challenging is suspension by NJC.Wike should try as possible to make peace with amaechi,if he is to enjoy his stay as gov of Rivers, pending when the tribunal decides his fate.You cannot use federal might to completely demonise somebody and put to a halt the speed of his governance,and expect him to sit down and fold his hands and not fight back.

Before we misinform Nigerians and start insulting ourselves, the amnesty programme even before Buhari took over, was scheduled to end this year 2015 just that some have been hoping and pushing for an extension. Go to their website or check google. What seems obvious now is that Buhari won’t extend it. So it’s not as if he has fixed a new end date. He has only affirmed it. I am sure his government will engage stakeholders and come up with strategies to develop the Niger Delta. Having said that, I think we should begin to look beyond the amnesty and begin to demand accountability from all the Niger Delta State Governors for the huge money they get as 13% derivation. We need to also ask the Ministry of Niger Delta to account for the huge votes it gets to develop the region. And then there is NDDC which gets more money that some States! It can’t be business as usual.

She had since been recommended for the appointment by the NJC but Amaechi preferred Agumagu.

Nigeria, let’s move on. This obsession with Jonathan cannot help us! He will soon be our ex-President and will continue to earn pensions and other benefits for life. Buhari is the President or will be in less than an hour. Hate him or like him, just pray for him as our President to succeed. It is in our collective interest and that of our children and even of generations yet unborn that he succeeds. For Jonathan, whether you continue to insult him and vilify him won’t help you, me or Nigeria.

There are indications that President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has rejected moves by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to make ex Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi, his Chief of Staff.


Fayemi did a yeoman’s job as chairman presidential convention committee committee, and later Director of Policies for the All Progressives’ Congress (APC).


He and Governor Babatunde Fashola were earlier pencilled as ministerial nominees but last minute manoeuvres by some powerful interest in the south west killed the dream.


According to party sources, there are current moves by Tinubu to make Fayemi Buhari’s Chief of Staff, but Buhari has declined instead prefers former military administrator, Colonel Hamid Ali.


However, Yankarireporters.com learnt that Tinubu is pushing to make Fayemi at least his private secretary, which party sources described as a tall dream.





Ali is Former Kaduna state Military Administrator. ,During the campaign he was in charge of the crowd funding project for Buhari’s presidency project and those who should know are not arguing about it because they believe that Ali has earned the respect to do the work and has an huge chemistry with the General.

It was gathered that while only Col. Ali was aware of the details of Buhari’s trip to the United Kingdom, Tinubu and chairman John Oyegun were kept in the dark.


Sources hinted Yankarireporters.com that unlike President Goodluck Jonathan who made Haman Tukur , private secretary, and has fulanis as National Security Adviser, (NSA) and Defence minister, Buhari has insisted all his core staff and aides must be core northerners.


Those being considered for the positions of NSA are: a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazau (retd) and former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Commassie.


Brigadier General Jafaru Isah (retired), is another core northerner who Buhari prefers to be Defence minister.


The former Army Chief is currently the Director in charge of the Security Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

Commassie, on the other hand is currently the Chairman of the northern socio-cultural organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum.

An APC chieftain, who did not want his name mentioned, told Yankarireporters.com , “Although there are about three people being considered for the post of NSA, Gen. Dambazau, is currently topping the list.

Commassie, who was Gen. Buhari’s schoolmate and one other retired officer of the SSS whose name I cannot remember now are among those being considered.

Jafaru Isa was Military Administrator of Kaduna State from December 1993 to August 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha In 1996, Isa created several chiefdoms for the southern Zaria or Kaduna people in order to improve peace in Kaduna State.[2]


In September 2000 he was a leading member of the newly formed Arewa Consultative Forum , a northern political lobbying group. He became a leader of the United Nigerian Development Forum, an association friendly to the election of General Ibrahim Babangida in the April 2003 Presidential contest. With the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari as president a few hours away, it has emerged that infighting between a former Chief of Army Staff, General Abdulrahman Dambazzau and top former military officers from the north over key security appointments may threaten the cohesion of the incoming administration.

The former military leaders, it was gathered, are unhappy that Dambazzau is already asserting himself as National Security Adviser (NSA)-designate, claiming he solely determines who gets any security and military appointment in the incoming administration.

While the retired officers have reportedly aligned with Buhari’s decision to appoint key security and military aides from any part of the country outside of the core north, Dambazzau may have cladenstinely effected the appointment of a certain Lt. Col M. Lawal Abubakar as Buhari’s ADC.

Abubakar like Dambazzau belongs to the military police corps and hails from the same Kano State. He is a member of the 44th Regular Course of Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA).

As Lt. Col, Dambazzau was NDA’s registrar and was the anchor person on the Armed Forces selection board that admitted Abubakar and other cadets of the 44th Regular Course. 44th Regular Course was the most controversial intake into the NDA as Kano State, against the academy’s rule of admitting equal number of cadets per state, unexplicably had nearly double the number of intakes than any other state.

Aside the admission blunder, military sources told Pointblanknews.com that several members of Course 44 from Kano dn’t have the required five O’Level credits and had to be writing the examinations as undergraduates of the Defence Academy.

Dambazzau had reportedly attempted to foist Lt. Col. Yakassai, who was his ADC as Chief of Army Staff on Buhari, but that the president-elect flatly rejected the proposal.

Like Abubakar, Yakassai was a member of the controversial 44th Regular Course, and served as ADC during Rabi’u Kwankwaso’s tenure as Minister of Defence and Dambazzau as Army Chief.

On two attempts, Yakassai reportedly failed his promotion examinations and passed on the third attempt after Dambazzau’s personally intervention as Army Chief.

The former military leaders from the north are reportedly worried that handing Buhari a core northern ADC would cast the president-elect in the mould of an ethnic champion.

“Look at Obasanjo. The two ADCs that served him were from Edo State. The Late Yar’Adua’s ADC is from Delta State. Jonathan’s ADC is from Kogi, so why not get an ADC outside of the north west as Buhari’s ADC?” quizzed a retired two-star general.

He continued, “True, there are no hard and fast rules about appointing ADCs. Howevern, the practice both in the military and for deserving political office holders is for the principal to appoint his ADC, being a personal aide, on the basis of his

“Fully aware of the powers and influence of the ADC, the most important link between the president and the military, it comes as little surprise that Dambazzau so desperately wants to be responsible for appointing one for Buhari so he can effectively be in total control,” alleged a retired officer.

Pointblanknews.com also gathered that Dambazzau had raised eyebrows when he sent a long list of soldiers and officers to be trained to replace the bodyguard elements in the presidential villa usually drawn from the DSS, Police and Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), fueling concerns on his motives.
