As a counterforce, Amaechi ─ who is the biggest financial backer of Buhari and is heavily favoured to pick the vice-presidential slot ─ flew in a heavy “war chest” to the pro-Buhari camp in Lagos on Wednesday morning, sources told TheCable. The strategy in the pro-Buhari camp is to match Atiku naira-for-naira and dollar-for-dollar. “Atiku cannot just come in and pick the ticket after all the hard work we did breaking up the PDP and setting up the APC,” a southern governor told TheCable on phone. http://www.thecable.ng/just-12-apc-governors-endorse-buhari-atiku-reaches-directly-delegates |

OAM:Perhaps that was his own vote? |
Borno State deputy governor, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha has said that no northerner in his or her right senses would vote for PDP in the 2015 general elections owing to what he described as the party’s inability to demonstrate good leadership in the country. According to him, the Jonathan led PDP government was nothing but an empty vessel, which cannot give Nigeria the needed leadership, particularly at a time when the nation was facing serious insecurity challenges. The deputy governor, who was speaking on Monday, at the Maiduguri Government House during the distribution of vehicles to supporters of the All Progressive Congress, APC, also told the gathering that if the Jonathan led government and the Nigerian military could not retake local government areas in Borno state, which were currently under the control of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, the Borno state government would mobilize youths and necessary equipments to win those local government over from the insurgents. “Any northerner who votes for PDP in the next round of election is not supposed to be called a northerner because such a person is a disgrace to the north. We would do everything within our power as government to ensure we retake local government areas under the control of insurgents since the military and the Federal government has failed to do so”, the deputy governor said. http://dailypost.ng/2014/12/10/2015-northerner-votes-pdp-disgrace-borno-deputy-governor/ |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday donated five million naira to victims of Friday’s bomb blast at the Kano Central Mosque. The APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, announced the donation when he paid a condolence visit to Gov. Rabi’u Kwankwaso at the Government House, Kano. Oyegun said the party deemed it necessary to donate the token in order to support the victims of the most unfortunate incident. “I want, to on behalf of the APC, to convey a truly heartfelt condolence and sympathy to the government and people of Kano State over the sad incident. “We share your grief and the people of Kano over the sad and unfortunate event. We wish to make a token donation of five million naira in support of the victims of the blast,’’ he said. He said that the recent incidents in Kano State and Damaturu clearly underscored the need for increased, concerted efforts to end the insurgent activities, to save the country from anarchy. He, however, commended Kano State Government for the support and assistance it extended to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the North-East. “Let me use this opportunity to commend you because we are not unaware of the support and assistance you are giving to IDPs from the North-East.’’ Responding, Kwankwaso, represented by his Deputy, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, thanked the APC leadership for its concern. Kwankwaso assured that the state government would continue to work with various security agencies in order to ensure security of lives and property of the citizenry. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oyegun was accompanied by other national officers of the party. (NAN) http://leadership.ng/news/metro/392788/apc-donates-n5m-kano-bomb-blast-victims |
Ijaw youths, under the aegis of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, yesterday, flayed Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State over his claim that President Goodluck Jonathan was sponsoring the Boko Haram sect in the North East states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno.IYC described Amaechi’s claim and recent utterances that a parallel government would be formed if the 2015 elections were rigged by the ruling party as disappointing, saying it clearly shows that he was no longer fit to be a governor of a state. In a statement in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Eric Omare, IYC described Amaechi’s utterances as reckless and not befitting of his office. It said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the statement credited to Governor Amaechi to the effect that President Jonathan is sponsoring Boko Haram in the North eastern states of Yobe, Adamawa and Borno because of the 2015 elections.“We regard this statement as reckless and not befitting the holder of the office of a governor of a state. It is most disappointing that Amaechi could make such a statement at a time the entire nation is mourning the tragic death of over 100 people at the Central Mosque, Kano.“The statement, coming at a time when Nigerians and especially political leaders are supposed to close ranks to collectively confront the Boko Haram insurgency, clearly shows that Governor Amaechi and his likes have taken politics over and above the lives of the Nigerian people.“Governor Amaechi who promised to form a parallel government in 2015 only two weeks ago to be playing politics with the Boko Haram insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives shows that he is no longer a fit and proper person to hold the office of a governor.“The office of governor goes with a sense of responsibility which Governor Amaechi has in recent times failed to uphold and discharge.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/12/iyc-slams-amaechi-comment-jonathan/#sthash.auMiWcrJ.dpuf |
Protest against Lagos delegates’ list • Petition national chairman, • NWC May take legal action against party Davidson Iriekpen Indications emerged yesterday that disagreements is brewing in the camps of the four of the five presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the plan by the party leadership to shift the venue of its national convention. Consequently, the four aspirant shave petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, demanding that the venue of the party’s national convention be shifted from Lagos to Abuja. The four aspirants, including former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Kano State Governor, Alhaji, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso; Leadership Publisher, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah and Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, are also seeking the cancelation of the delegates’ list from 37 Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs) of Lagos State which formed part of the list of delegates for the national convention. The argument by the four aspirants was that the LCDAs were not recognised by the constitution and that they were not in the know how the said delegates emerged. The petition, handed to Oyegun, was also copied to all members of the party’s National Working Committee(NWC). A source in the party, however, said its leadership had scheduled a meeting for Monday to address the issues raised in the petition. It was learnt that the letter, signed by the four aspirants was handed over to the national chairman at his official residence in Asokoro, Abuja last Saturday, while the NWC members were also copied. The aspirants were concerned that the delegates list from Lagos included members from the 37 non-constitutionally recognised development areas of the state areas whereas only 20 local governments are recognised from Lagos state in the 1999 Constitution. One of the party’s chieftains who is close to one of the aspirants also said monday that the presidential aspirants, except General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) have rejected the delegates list from Lagos State. He stated that the presidential aspirants alleged that someone might have sat somewhere to draw up the list. Besides, a source said yesterday that some of the aspirants are contemplating a court case if the party insists on using the list from the 37 unrecognised local councils. Said a source: “One of the steps being contemplated is the possibility of filing a court case if the NWC fails to act quickly on the matter.” The aspirants are insisting that rather than take the convention to Lagos, the event should hold in Eagle Square, Abuja after the convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) . A source in the know further said: “The aspirants are insisting that the convention can hold after that of the PDP and that they are ready to wait until the venue in Abuja is free. In the alternative, they also suggested that the venue can be shifted to Benin City, Edo State to avid any further acrimony.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/four-apc-presidential-aspirants-want-convention-shifted-to-abuja/195581/ |

Lagos based lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN, has strongly condemned the former head of state and presidential aspirant, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for obtaining a loan of N27.5m to buy his party’s expression of interest and nomination form for the 2015 election. Buhari is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. Falana, who spoke on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, while speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Paramount FM Chapel Press Week, noted that the action of the elder statesman was vulnerable, noting that it lead to monetization of politics. He said, “It is indefensible for Gen. Buhari to have obtained a loan facility of N27.5m just to obtain a form of intent to contest in the presidential election in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress. “Is he going to obtain another loan during his campaign, because in Nigeria, it costs billions of naira to run a presidential campaign?” Falana, who was the guest lecturer at the event, spoke on the topic: ‘Current Security Challenges: Implication for 2015 Elections’. The soft-spoken lawyer also advised journalists to be wary of fake politicians who would want to play to the gallery, but should focus on issues. He said, “Journalists must show more than a passing interest on how those aspirants want to manage the economy. The government must address mass illiteracy, corruption and poverty.” He also enjoined the government to wake up and fight the security challenges confronting the nation the same way the Ebola scourge was tackled. “Government gave Ebola Virus Disease attention because it is no respecter of anybody. But government is not conscious of the security of the people because they have security guards protecting them”, he said. http://dailypost.ng/2014/10/24/2015-presidential-race-falana-attacks-buhari-taking-n27-5m-loan-buy-form/ |
