Six Nigerian pilgrims were among the 111 victims of Friday’s crane crash at the Grand Mosque in Makkah “We lost six pilgrims — two males and four females,” Uba Mana, a spokesman for the National Haj Commission of Nigeria, told AFP on Monday. “We can’t say this is the final death toll because the situation is still unfolding. We are still visiting the hospitals and mortuaries in search of more casualties from Nigeria,” he said. Mana said some 58,000 Nigerians were already in the Kingdom for the Haj out of 76,000 expected for this year’s pilgrimage. “The rest will be airlifted in the coming days,” he said. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday sent “his heartfelt condolences to the families, relations and friends of the Nigerian victims of the crane accident.” Buhari urged “Nigerians to join him in praying for the quick and full recovery” of the injured. www.arabnews.com/saudi-arabia/news/806961 Cc: lalasticlala |

This may not be the best time for me to write on this topic because of misinterpretations, but i can no longer resist the push. 'Husband Scarcity' has become one of the challenges faced by many young girls today. If you go to prayer houses, majority of the intentions are prayer for a life partner; and this calls for concern. Casting our minds back to the time of our mothers and grandmothers, was there really much of a 'husband scarcity' problem? Or maybe there was more men than women then, or maybe there was an adequate corresponding number of both genders. I don't think so. Maybe then, the women had values and were prepared to build a home and not park into a built home. Then, once a young man comes of age and can at least feed himself and his wife, he goes out in search of a wife, and the woman really appreciates him and helps him to build a future. What am I really trying to say? We created what we now see as 'HUSBAND SCARCITY' for ourselves. Today, the reverse is the case. Ask an average girl to define her dream husband; and you get things like ''he has to be tall, handsome, fair and rich, be mobile, and should own a house at least and be presentable'' and then she adds ''God fearing'' in order not to sound worldly. Then check the number of girls around you, and the number of men that meet that standard, and you will see the problem. You hear girls say '' I cannot suffer in my father's house, and then go and start suffering with a man.'' What a wonderful dream! What if from the beginning, you have everything you want, and there is no sufffering, then later in the marriage, the tables turn around and then comes suffering. Will you run away? No one prays for suffering, but then it is better to start small and end big, than start big and end small. The problem is that the description many of our girls give their ideal man is virtually the same. When 50 girls want the same kind of man, and the man fits what they want, its just 1 man, and that 1 man can pick only 1 girl, then what becomes of the 49 others? They simply start lamenting of ''HUSBAND SCARCITY'' Another irony of our time is that it is hard, due to the face of our economy, to find a man who is of marriage and posseses all these things the ladies want; legally (except of course, those who are involved in internet fraud), even those involved in internet fraud are not enough to match the number of those women searching for already made husbands. If you look around, majority of the ladies of substance, of good value and virtue, who are ready to build a home with a man who has prospects are married, and not complaining of husband scarcity. The easiest way to find a husband now, is to change your view on who a husband is. A husband is that man God made and then saw that it may be hard for him to really actualize his purpose for making him without a help mate, and then made the woman and gave to him, then he became complete and fulfilled. MARRIAGE IS NOT A POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROGRAM. It is a mission of building the family of God here on earth. For those who see marriage as a way out of poverty, it is a way into bondage. Women are HOME BUILDERS not HOME WARMERS. Don't confuse a man's path with his destiny. Where he is today, may only be a route to where God has destined him to be tommorow. Another truth is that, you may be the only fast means to that his destination. Join in alleviating ''husband scarcity''. Pick up the right values. I'm not saying that you should pick any man that comes your way and talks of marriage, not all men are husband materials. What i'm saying is that you should stop setting your standards on material acquisitions and physical appearances. Look beyond the physical. What makes a man who he is, is not what he owns, or how he looks, it is what he is made up of, whiich is not seen with the physical eyes, rather only the effects can be seen. Marriage is a permanent thing. Whatever is seen is temporal, and that which cannot be seen is permanent. Relax and go to God in prayer. God did not just make Eve for making sake; he made her for Adam's need to be complete and fulfilled. |

Determined to curtail Boko Haram insurgency, President Muhammdu Buhari will on Monday begin a state visit to France to hold talks with President Francois Hollande. He will also explore opportunities of more collaboration with Niger, Chad and Cameroon, which are assisting the nation in the war against insurgency. The President was quoted as saying “it is more cost effective politically and economically to be at peace with your neighbours. This is something I learnt from the army.” According to a pre-visit review by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the visit was in response to President Hollande’s invitation to President Buhari. He said Hollande had extended olive branch to Buhari shortly after his election in March. The agenda of the three-day bilateral talks will include: 1. Security in the Nigeria and the Lake Chad basin area. 2. Boko Haram insurgency 3. Review of ‘Wish List’ 4. To prevail on President Hollande and allies in G7 to keep their promise to assist Nigeria 5. Access to military hardware, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure 6. Economy and the war against corruption He said: “One, he (Hollande) offered the friendship and partnership of France in President Buhari’s plan to rid Nigeria of terrorism and rebuild the country economically. “His pronouncement that relations between our two countries are “strategic” has equally excited the Nigerian foreign policy establishment. It points to Nigeria’s opportunity. “The second thing President Hollande said to our then President-elect was, “come to France and let us host to you to a bilateral discussion.” From here, Hollande, Germany’s Angela Merkel, Britain’s David Cameron and Obama encouraged President Buhari to, on getting into office put together a “wish list” of his government and country and table it at the “G7” meeting in Germany early in June, with a promise to come to the aid of our country. Shehu gave elaborate details on why the visit was important to the war against Boko Haram insurgency. He added: “Lastly and more importantly is the issue of security in the country and the Lake Chad basin area. “Since his assumption of office, President Buhari has squared up to the threat of Boko Haram terrorism with a single-minded determination. Without waiting for the envisaged foreign support and assistance, Boko Haram is near resolution. “If they were correctly reported in their press conference a few days ago, the military has indeed declared victory in the war. But the world still needs to come together to help this country manage its fallout. “In this regard, President Hollande needs to make his friends and allies in the G7 to sharpen their response and keep their promise of assistance for which President Buhari was requested to present a wish list. “So far, there is evidence of that support in the areas of training and the sharing of intelligence. But beyond these, it is hard to say that we are getting commensurate responses to the high hopes that we harboured in dealing with the war and reconstruction. “Such promises, especially as regards access to military hardware and the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, donated or paid for should be pursued so that the victory over terror in our region is not a temporary one but one that will usher in permanent peace, tranquility and wealth for our beleaguered populations and the part of the continent they occupy.” On the economy, Shehu said the meeting will also focus on it since France investment in Nigeria is the largest in Africa. He said: “It is equally fundamental that France’s investment on the African continent is the largest in Nigeria. And it is still growing. French interests here are strongly represented by such companies as Total, ELF, LaFarge, Societe- Generale, SCOA and so on. “The best outcome for Nigeria during this visit should reflect favourably on key priorities of the Buhari administration, which are security, economy and the war against corruption. “An added one would be the strengthening of cultural cooperation. That should hopefully be beneficial to both states. “We as a country are in the midst of our French- speaking siblings in Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin bordering this country to the North, East and West. The attitude of our authorities to this ground reality has not been very good so far.” Cc: lalasticlala thenationonlineng.net/boko-haram-buhari-takes-battle-to-france-meets-hollande-on-monday-for-talks/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari has broken his silence on his appointments, which many Nigerians have described as “lopsided”. Buhari in an interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday said the Constitution allowed him full control over the choice of his closest officials. The president assured that he was not ignoring some section of his society in his appointments, explaining that those he appointed were some of his most trusted associates. Responding to the interviewer’s question on the controversy generated by the appointments, Buhari said “This is the nature of Nigerian politics”. “If they will do justice to me, as an elected Nigerian president, let them look at the Constitution a Nigerian president works with, there are people who will closely work with me that don’t need to be taken to the Senate. “If I select people whom I know quite well in my political party, whom we came all the way right from the APP, CPC and APC, and have remained together in good or bad situation, the people I have confidence in and I can trust them with any post, will that amount to anything wrong? “I have been with them throughout our trying times, what then is the reward of such dedication and suffering? “They did not defect because of positions, they did not involve themselves in the pursuit of personal gains, and they accepted their fate throughout our trying moments. “What is wrong if I make you the secretary (of the federal government) because I have confidence that things will go normal?” On the abducted Chibok girls missing since April 2014, Buhari said the Boko Haram sect had “have scattered them, and are being guarded at dispersed locations. “Most of the girls are Christians and were forced to embrace Islam. And the sect’s cruel leaders have married some of the girls, obviously against their wish. Others have been left to practice their religion but their condition could hardly be ascertained. “Both ground and air security personnel in the Sambisa forest could spot where the girls are, but since the insurgents have also kidnapped housewives and other women, no one could say whether they mixed them or how they dispersed them.” .
