The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki- Moon, on Tuesday held a special meeting with 12 heads of parliaments from different parts of the world including Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on security problems in many countries. The meeting also dwelt on the resultant mass displacement of people from their traditional abodes with a consensus that the issues require global solutions. According to a statement by the senate president’s media aides, the meeting was held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters as part of activities scheduled to hold during the fourth UN Conference for Parliamentary Heads in New York. The meeting, the statement added, was attended by parliamentary heads from Nigeria, Italy, Switzerland, Vietnam, Kuwait, Lithuania, among others. According to the statement, Saraki briefed the press after the meeting, where he disclosed that Ban Ki Moon told the parliamentary heads that the UN expressed concerns over the issues of terrorism, rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and general insecurity which he said further worsened cases of poverty, under-development and disrespect for the dignity of human persons. Saraki was said to have further stressed the important role of the parliament in providing proper oversight and ensuring accountability and openness while enacting laws that will be beneficial to their constituents. Ki-Moon, according to Saraki, noted that peace, democracy and the rule of law were central to ensuring sustainable development as he expressed optimism that the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN would be more successful than the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) because of the multi-stakeholder participatory approach being adopted by the comity of nations through the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The statement added: “The Senate President said he came out of the meeting with Ban Ki Moon more energised to get the much needed support for the IDPs and those affected by terrorism in the North- eastern part of his home country, Nigeria. Are there other crazy stuffs you feel we have left out of this review? Then feel free to share in our comment section and you can be sure that we will factor them in. Cc: lalasticlala, ishilove. https://www.naij.com/535855-photo-news-proofs-why-lagos-is-dubbed-craziest-city-on-earth.html |
There a lot of undisciplined acts that take place in Lagos, but the government has set-up agencies to checkmate them. In the photo, officials of KAI nabs a man for crossing the road. Like every great city in the world, Lagos has its good and bad sides, some of its major ills are those highlighted above. But besides these ills, Lagos is one place that deserves to be visited.
|
Floods in certain areas of Lagos can be very
devastating, with cars getting stuck and houses
being over flooded.
|
The Federal Ministry of Water Resources on
Friday said no fewer than 33 million people
practise open defecation in Nigeria, a large
percentage of which takes place in Lagos.
|
Over loaded buses are not a rare sight in Lagos.
One fears that such over loading does not cause
fatal road mishaps.
|
Traffic can be a big problem, especially due to
the disorganization of the infamous Lagos
yellow buses.
|
Only in Lagos can you find such a scene, where a
vehicle is stuck in muddy pool of water and
passengers have to be backed to safe shore.
|
Except for places in India, Lagos has a very high
rate for people hanging on trains and sitting on
trains not within the coaches. Crazy still is the fact
that traders sell on the rail ways, and it becomes
a cat and dog affair whenever a train is to go
through.
|
Where else in the world can anyone walk Hyenas
and baboons freely with no cause as to the
dangers they pose to others.
|
Epileptic power supply has for too long plagued
Lagos, and this has caused many to buy power
generating sets. This development has lead to
increase in noise pollution and air pollution in
Lagos, factors which health officials say adds to
the ration of death rate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State chapter, has called for unconditional release of the kidnapped columnist with Vanguard newspaper, Dornu Kogbara. The party in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary in the state, Chris Finebone wondered why a journalist would be kidnapped. The gunmen, who kidnapped Kogbara on Sunday morning, stormed her Nkpogu-Port Harcourt residence in a CRV car, amid gunshots. No demand for ransom had been made. APC in the statement said: “A sundry reflection on the security situation of our dear Rivers State indicates that the several efforts made by the previous administration, which significantly brought criminality to its lowest ebb across the state, have now been reversed in just three months of the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike. The present sorry state of security in the state did not come by accident. “Before and during the last campaigns, the APC warned that the worst thing that would happen to Rivers State was for Nyesom Wike to become governor of our dear state, especially with regard to security of life and property. “The warning was based on a clear assessment and observation of the individuals who call the shots in the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those they chose to engage as their foot soldiers to snatch electoral victory through the use of the guns. “Today, the worst fears of the APC have come to stay in Rivers State, considering the skyrocketing level of killings, armed robberies and kidnappings sweeping through the length and breadth of the state, with negative impact on the economy and social life of the people and residents of the state. “The APC will like to call on on security agents in Rivers State and beyond to do all they can to ensure a quick and safe retrieval of the kidnapped journalist of international repute, whose only crime was to visit the family in Port Harcourt, the capital of her home state.” Cc: lalasticlala dailypost.ng/2015/08/31/apc-seeks-release-of-kidnapped-vanguard-columnist-blames-wike/ |
mikolo80:, baba, i dont live in lekki oo, whether or not i suffered didnt have any impact in my initial statement.. My point was that and still remains that there were some positives from GEJ's government,, it wasnt all bad,, tell me something that GMB has done to better the lives of nigerians,, APC and Buhari used the heads of nigerians and made fake campaign promises under the 'CHANGE' slogan; when they saw they couldnt fulfil them, have gone on to blame jonathan and PDP,,. Again no one is perfect.. |

Think before u argue, dont argue with family problem abeg... |
