The Rivers State Police Command said it had arrested the Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, for the alleged murder of his kinsman, Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo and a police sergeant, Urang Obediah. A statement made on Thursday night indicated that Lloyd was purportedly arrested on his way to join the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, in his private jet in order to escape justice. The statement sent via e-mail by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, specified that Lloyd knocked down Obediah while pursuing Ejeuo, identified to be his political opponent. Lloyd, who was still standing trial for his involvement in the fracas that took place in the State House on July 9, 2013, was said to have rammed into Ejeuo's Passat car with a bulletproof vehicle and killed him (Ejeo). The police command pointed out that it had initially thought it was an auto accident until Lloyd relocated to another hospital, "conscious of what he did." "The Rivers State Police Command has arrested Hon. Chidi Llyod of the Rivers State House of Assembly for murder of police Sgt. Urang Obediah and Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo, his kinsman and arch political opponent. "He was arrested on his way to join Governor Amaechi Rotimi in his private jet at the Airforce base to escape justice. "Hon. Chidi Lloyd on December 30, 2013 while pursing his political opponent, knocked down Sgt. Urang Obediah, in spite of his effort to stop him, rammed and killed him and went ahead to crush the Passat car of Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo was driving and killed him. "Initially the Police thought that it was a mere accident, which ought to have been a manslaughter. The Commissioner of Police directed ACP Aliyu Garba, the Area Commander Metro, to visit him in his hospital bed and commiserate with him, conscious of what he did, Chidi Lloyd relocated to another hospital. "Facts emerged that Chidi Lloyd drove a bullet-proof vehicle while pursuing his political opponent, late Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo, and he (Lloyd) knocked down Sgt. Urang Obediah, who died on the spot and (Lloyd) moved ahead to smash a political opponent in his Passat car who equally died instantly," the statement reads. The statement added that late Ejeuo, who hailed from the same place with Lloyd was believed to be in the PDP camp led by Elder Felix Obuah. The statement also indicated that the Leader of the House allegedly escaped from the hospital where he was being guarded by four policemen. However, a top government official told our correspondent that the claim by the police that Lloyd tried to join Amaechi in his (Amaechi) private jet in order to escape justice was a blatant lie. It will be recalled that Lloyd, who presented himself to the Nigeria Police after a video clip showed him hitting a member of the House of Assembly, Mr. Michael Chinda, with a mace on the head, was charged to court on a six-count charge, including attempted murder. Lloyd was later granted bail in order to receive medical attention after sustaining injury during the July 9, 2013 free- for-all in the chambers of the State House of Assembly. |
The 25-year-old midfielder saw a proposed transfer to the Stade d'Erbajolo collapse back in September but the deal has now belatedly gone through By Mark Doyle 3 Jan 2014 00:45:00 Nigeria international Sunday Mba has completed his move from Warri Wolves to Bastia. The midfielder, who last week left his country's camp for the upcoming African Nations Championship to travel to France, has put pen to paper on an 18-month contract with the Ligue 2 strugglers. Mba had agreed to join Bastia back in September but the deal collapsed when Warri Wolves pulled out of talks at the last minute. However, the 25-year-old, who was Nigeria's hero in last January's Africa Cup of Nations final victory over Burkina Faso, has now got this wish to move to the Stade d'Erbajolo. Nothing hurts more than knowing that the person you want to be with does not want to be with you and sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself in such situation is to let go. So, you want to know if the lady you are with is only using you for financial gain, company or some other selfish reasons, here are the top 10 tips to look out for. 1. CONSTANTLY ASKING FOR FAVORS: You know, this is not even about girls but trust nobody who constantly ask you for favors, they are only taking advantage. In the case of girls, if she constantly asks for your help especially when it comes to finances and buying stuff for her, it's just clear that she is in for the goodies, don't be fooled bro .. some even ask for favors that Bill Gates daughter won't even ask her father. 2. SHE NEVER RETURN YOUR CALLS: She barely return your text messages and missed calls and when she does, it's mostly the 'k', 'lol' 'yes' kind of replies after taking days to respond. I need not tell you that she's not interested in you. 3. SHE ALWAYS COMES OUT WITH YOU WITH HER GIRLS: This is a clear sign to alert you that this girl don't want alone time, she's only there to please her friends or make her friends enjoy a bit of the goodies you are offering. Look elsewhere or grab one of her friends if you can. Some girls might even bring male friends just to piss you off, while you foot the bills. 4. SHE NEVER TAKES PICTURES WITH YOU: If you are the guy always taking photos of the girl or if she prefer taking photos of the food, drink, gift you bought for her instead, then my bro, be prepared to move on. You don't matter like that. Try go through her social media/phone if there's no photo of you, think twice. Some people might say it doesn't matter but trust me every girl that loves you will share beautiful moments you share together or want to take pictures with you, every minute you spend together. Don't ignore this, it's a cemented fact. 5. SHE INTRODUCES YOU TO HER FRIENDS AS A 'FRIEND' : I was once asked why do guys hate when they are introduced as a friend, and my answer was why not? Ladies should know that this particular thing hurts more than being shot, especially when you are so into her and in your head she's the love of your life. That is clear that she's not in a relationship with you, at least to her friends or whoever you got introduced to. 6. SHE FLIRTS WITH YOUR FRIENDS OR FIND YOUR FRIENDS WAY COOLER : The worst that could happen is introducing your girl to your friends and she start to get flirty with them. It could be for the fun of it but if she's usually bored around you but come alive when she's with you and your friends, try do your homework well or simply leave her to one of your friends, not an easy decision though but it will save you time to move on. 7. SHE NEVER COMMENTS ON HOW YOU LOOK: Everybody like compliments but if even in your best, she never say, "you look good" or "I like what you are wearing" then the answer is simple, 'SHE DON'T CARE'. It's straight like that. Don't sweat it. 8. ACTS FRIENDLY WHENEVER SHE IS NEED: She usually calls you all the sweet names, 'boo boo', hun, bla bla … only when she needs a favor. Do you still need to be told bro? 9. SHE FINDS YOU BORING: This is how to tell if a girl thinks you are boring, she don't laugh to your jokes, she's constantly on her phone when you are with her, if you don't break the silence, she don't make any effort to make a convo, she don't even shout or singalong to her favorite song when you play it in her presence, bro, you are trying too much, go for someone who appreciate you, especially if you don't think you are that boring. 10. SHE NEVER WANT TO GET INTIMATE WITH YOU: If after all this, you are still with her, getting a kiss, touch, sex will be one hell of a problem, you are going to be put on a strict timetable. NO PDA (don't even think about it). During sex, that's if she decide to give you one finally, might be boring than a couple in their late 90′s trying to have a doggy style |

While there's no way of eating that can promise 100 percent protection from breast cancer, it's increasingly clear that breast cancer prevention and diet go hand in hand, thanks to the right foods' incredible ability to heal and protect our bodies from disease. The latest food shown to possess anticancer properties is the much-loved tomato, thanks to the fruit's ability to raise levels of a hormone known to help regulate blood sugar and fat. The study, appearing in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, explains that as a postmenopausal woman ages, her body mass index tends to climb, a clear breast cancer risk factor. In the latest study, though, researchers from Rutgers University found that eating a diet high in tomatoes helped promote better fat regulation and sugar metabolism, keeping women's body mass index out of the danger zone. "The advantages of eating plenty of tomatoes and tomato- based products, even for a short period, were clearly evident in our findings," says study author, Adana Llanos, PhD, MPH, assistant professor of epidemiology at Rutgers University. "Eating fruits and vegetables, which are rich in essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals such as lycopene, conveys significant benefits. Based on this data, we believe regular consumption of at least the daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables would promote breast cancer prevention in an at-risk population." The study looked at women eating tomato-rich diets and found that those who ate at least 25 milligrams of lycopene daily for 10 weeks saw a healthy bump in adiponectin, a hormone involved with regulating blood sugar and fat levels. In fact, levels rose 9 percent on average. Interestingly, a high- soy diet actually lowered levels of the fat-fighting, sugar- stabilizing hormone. Some tips for tomato lovers: •Always choose organic. Pesticide-residue testing has found 5 types of known or probable carcinogens, along with 16 suspected hormone-disrupting chemicals, on nonorganic tomato samples. •Opt for fresh tomatoes versus store-bought canned. Most cans in the supermarket are lined with bisphenol A, or BPA, a hormone-disrupting chemical actually linked to breast cancer. •If you have a garden, try growing heirloom tomato varieties. These are types of tomatoes that have been passed down over the years because of their exquisite taste. Growing heirloom seeds also helps preserve genetic diversity in the vegetable world. |
The Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos State, has arrested an account officer with Guaranty Trust Homes, Adeola Olokojobi, in connection with a N50m fraud at the financial institution. Prior to his arrest, Olokojobi was said to be working at the GT Homes, Saka Tinubu branch, Victoria Island. It was revealed that the SFU had received a petition in October 2013, from a customer of the branch where Olokojobi worked. The customer had alleged that Olokojobi, who was his account officer, had "not been forthcoming with his account balances." A statement by the SFU Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, said, "The petitioner also alleged that the balance given to him was at variance with his actual balance in the account. "An internal investigation conducted by GT Homes into the account revealed that Olokojobi in April 2013, forged an instruction, transferring N15m from the petitioner's account, to an unknown account. "The bank also discovered other various fraudulent withdrawals made by the account officer from other customers' accounts in his care through fake transfer instructions. It amounted to over N50m. "He said the funds were used to finance his political campaign, a proposed pure water company and purchase of an uncompleted building at Sango-Ota, Ogun State. "Olokojobi in his confessional statement said he had fraudulently withdrawn monies amounting to N50,640,748 from the account of the customers by transferring funds into the accounts of fictitious customers and subsequently withdrawing same." A banking and finance graduate, Olokojobi told PUNCH Metro that he joined GT Homes in 2009. He, however, denied that he had fraudulently transferred over N50m, insisting that instead, it was N27m. He said, "I didn't have to forge the instructions from GT homes customers. All I did was manipulate them. What happens is that they usually send instructions to the account officers by email, requesting that some money be transferred to an account of their choice. All I simply do is add another million or two to the sum the customer requested. "It went unnoticed all this while because after using the money to do some business transactions, I always paid it back. I was into several businesses; I would buy land and resell for profit. "I got into trouble with this one because I withdrew N15m at once from a customer's account; I didn't take it bit by bit, but I meant to pay it back. In fact, I had already started doing so before I was caught and arrested. But the police are not right in saying that the money I had withdrawn from customers amounted to N50m; it is N27m." Ogunsakin, however, said the suspect would soon be charged to court, where he could defend himself. |

The Premier League table-toppers let their hair down to celebrate the holidays, with Superman, the Incredible Hulk, Zorro, Mario and even the Bananas in Pajamas in attendance 19 Dec 2013 15:10:00 It has been a great season for Arsenal so far; the arrival of Mesut Ozil, surviving a tough Champions League group and, of course, sitting at the top of the Premier League table, two points clear of their closest rivals. Little surprise, then, to see the players allowed some time off to enjoy themselves at Christmas with the squad taking to fancy dress for their festive bash and Lukas Podolski posting the results on Instagram. https://u.goal.com/352200/352256_heroa.jpg Don't make him angry | Podolski dresses up as Hulk (no, not that one) https://u.goal.com/352200/352253_heroa.jpg Fancy that | Not your usual team picture (Instagram) The Germany international came as the Incredible Hulk and posed alongside Mesut Ozil, who opted for a Superman costume, Santi Cazorla, who came as Super Mario, and Mikel Arteta, who chose Zorro. https://u.goal.com/352200/352255_heroa.jpg Curled from http://m.goal.com/x/en-gb/news/4490425/ |
A commercial bus driver, identified as Emeka Ugwudiobi has been accused of raping one of his passengers from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. at gun point in an uncompleted building around Mayor Market, Enugu. According to the prosecution counsel, Mr Francis Ajagu, the driver plies the New Market-Gariki route and the victim was one of his passengers. On that fateful day, the driver noticed only the victim was remaining in the bus and drove to an uncompleted building beside the Mayor Market and started raping the victim. Ajagu said the victim was raped from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. without break and that the pleas of the victim to allow her rest fell on deaf ears. The victim was rescued by one Mr Chidubem Ezeorah, a passerby who ran into the scene and reported the case to the police. He said that the victim could hardly stand on her feet when the police came to her rescue in the uncompleted building. However, Mr Obeta Peter, the counsel to the accused, who described the accused as a responsible man with a wife and four children said Emeka had been driving for the past 16 years and that nobody had ever complained that he was a rapist. He denied that his client had ever set eyes on the victim before, adding that there was no way a bus driver would carry a gun inside his bus and the police would not notice. Justice Dorathy Agishi ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody while adjourning the case to Feb. 26, 2014 for further hearing. |
This young lady above, says she was fathered by a ghost, only to later marry a ghost for whom she has 3 sons and is currently pregnant for. According to 20-year-old Taiyelolu Abdulrahman, while telling her chilling story to Nigerian Tribune, her father, who died almost 20 years ago, nurtured her till she was married to another dead or “ghost” husband. She and her twin brother, Kehinde, grew up with their father in a flat at the Ajah area of Lagos. They led a relatively comfortable life in the house where they only depended on generator as the only source of electricity. Although their father was not engaged in any kind of work, he provided for them. My father was not working. He never left the house except on a few occasions at night. But if I asked for N50, 000, he gave it to me. We had no visitors and we visited nobody,” she said. All they had to do were sleep, eat and watch home videos. Asked about her mother, she said she and her twin brother grew up to know only their father. They did not see any woman with him. To go out of the house, their father gave the twins a small gourd each which they simply clasped to their palms and then they burst out on the road and board vehicles to the market to purchase food items like wheat, semovita, macaroni, spaghetti and rice. They never consumed amala (yam flour meal). On a particular day, however, Taiyelolu forgot to take her gourd and as she stepped out of the house, what confronted her was a cemetery with a lot of vaults and a bushy environment. She screamed and dashed back inside. Then, her father told her to pick the gourd, atona (guide) as it was called. As she clasped the object to her palm and then ventured out, this time, she found herself on a busy tarred road. Another incident which frightened her happened in the night. “My father went out whenever he wanted but it was always around 10.00 or 11.00 p.m. He would not take anyone along with him. But there was a day I begged him to take me out to where he usually went and he obliged. When we got there, something strange and fearful happened. It was like a canteen and there, I saw a small cooking stand with a big pot on it without firewood or fire and the food was boiling. I asked my father how it was possible for food to cook without firewood and fire and the woman selling the food became angry and slapped me. She asked my father who I was; that I was not part of them but only wanted to expose their secrets. My father begged her and we left the place,” she remarked. After the incident, her father refused to take her out again so that she would not be privy to the secrets and circumstances surrounding their true identities. Since then, she refused to take food from her father, but only cooked her own food. By the time Taiyelolu came of age, her father did not allow her the choice of a husband, but asked her to marry someone identified as Abdulazeez. The man moved in with them and behaved like her father. Soon, she got pregnant. And when she eventually went into labour, she said her father went out, brought back a particular kind of leaf which he applied on her navel and she was delivered of a baby boy without any complication. Her father, who acted as the midwife, took care of the placenta. She bore her two other boys in the same manner. Her children were named Abdul Qayum (now eight years old), ‘Rokeeb (four) and Jamiu (two and a half). But what revealed the true identities of her father and husband? She disclosed that all the jealously guarded secrets began to come to the open when her brother Kehinde declined to marry a lady recommended by their father. They continued their routine life until their father considered Kehinde mature enough to get married and brought a lady home for him. But Kehinde was said to have refused outright to marry “one of them.” Taiyelolu said she asked him what he meant by “one of them” but he told her not to bother as she was only a woman who was oblivious of what was happening. One day, Kehinde was eating and he suddenly coughed, slumped and died. My father did not feel any sorrow as a result of this. He buried my brother in an unknown place. When I asked him about where he buried him, he said some Muslim clerics had come to pray over his body and he had buried it. Not convinced by his response, I said to him: “When I had my babies, no clerics came for the naming, but they came for the burial of my brother?’” Disturbed by the shocking death of her brother, Taiyelolu confronted her father that she wanted to know his family. That decision marked the beginning of her journey into a new world. “ Eventually, my father agreed to take me and the children to his hometown, Offa, Kwara State. He said he was from the imam’s family. When we almost got to his family house, he said he wanted to check on someone close by and pointed the house to us. He asked us to ask for Alhaji Hussein Salmoni, his uncle. When we met his uncle and explained ourselves to him, he was taken aback. He eventually showed us his grave. He said my father died over 20 years ago,” she said. Amid bewilderment, Taiyelolu left for the only place she knew as home, Ajah, Lagos, but could not locate their house again. What worsened her situation was the mysterious disappearance of the gourd which her father had given her and could have guided her back to the house. She went to Ilorin in an effort to locate her mother’s family house which her father told her was Isale Koto. She managed to strike up conversations with some people who introduced her to a radio presenter who narrated her story on air. She also met a lady who she followed to Ede, Osun State, and stayed with for about a month. It was while in that city that she traced her husband’s parents. She claimed that she was walking by the road one day when a car parked by her side and the driver told her that it was her birthday and in order to felicitate with her, gave her a handset with a SIM card. Taiyelolu is uncertain of her age, but assumed that she could be more than 20. It was when I got to ‘this world’ that I realised that I am too young to have given birth to three children with the fourth on the way. Also, I did not know that there is a place where people struggled to earn a living until I got here. It saddens me that I now wake up every day with no money.” She said she never attended a school, but that her father had the knowledge of the Qur’an and had western education. According to her, her father was the one who taught her and her brother Arabic and a bit of western education,” she said. It is obvious that Taiyelolu is truly versed in the recitation of the Qur’an. Her children now attend a primary school in the village. On how she got to Tonkere village in Osun State, she said she went to observe the evening prayer at a mosque in Ede when, after prayers, she was chatting with the imam and an old man appeared and told her in clear terms that she was suffering. The man then asked her why she was obstinate about returning the children with her to Tonkere, her husband’s place of birth. The man said if she refused to do so within three days, something unpleasant would become of the children and the man disappeared. Then she asked the imam if he saw the old man who just interrupted their conversation, but the imam said no. She then collected N200 from the cleric, fetched her children and the four of them, at about after 8.00 p.m., boarded a motorcycle to Akoda junction for N50. At the junction, she asked another cyclist to take her to Tonkere but the man, because of the fact that it was late in the day, charged her N1000, whereas she only had N150. But it was necessary that the children got to Tonkere that night because their father, who was deceased, demanded that she took them to his people. As she pleaded with the cyclist, a car parked by them and mediated in the matter. The driver asked the cyclist to convey the woman and her children to their destination for N500, which was the usual fare. The man gave the cyclist the N500, wrote down the motorcycle’s number and warned the cyclist to take the passengers to no place but the mosque at Tonkere. As they alighted from the motocycle at Tonkere, Taiyelolu said her husband appeared to her physically. She said he pointed to the shop opposite the mosque as his mother’s and the third building to the shop as his father’s house, saying “I should ask for his father, Pa Gbadamosi. As they conversed, her husband said a lady who was passing by, Tosin, was his sister and he called her.” Between the time Taiyelolu looked in the direction of the lady and looked back in her husband’s direction, he had disappeared. The lady Taiye is with her husband’s people now in Tonkere village, but they did not receive her with open arms because the aged parents of Abdulazeez were confused about how their first son, who died at a tender age, could have fathered three children. They are suspicious of their supposed daughter-in-law and are acting cautiously around her. But she dismissed any suspicious of band motives asking why she would want to lie herself into a poor home. Also, Taiyelolu’s mother-in-law, the Iyalode of Tonkere, had been down with stroke and the father-in-law is a farmer. Financially, they are not capable of supporting Taiyelolu and her children. The lady, who said the clothes she uses now were given to her, added that they were rags, compared to the ones she wore in her father’s house. What pointed to the fact that she could truly be from another world was the way she was lamenting openly about the treatment meted out to her by her in-laws. She said if she had made up her story, rather than bringing her children to the old mud house, she would have taken them to the governor’s house. The mud house, she said, did not compare with her father’s house in “the other world.” She said she only left her father’s house with a black bag and a Qur’an, which are still in her possession. She also claimed to have dreamt of her father once, who was all tears, lamenting with his finger in his mouth that he warned his daughter not to embark on this journey. She said her husband pleaded with her in her dreams each time his people offended her. She said her husband said the reason he insisted she took his children to his parents was for his parents to have the joy of raising his children as they did not have such opportunity with him even as a first child. The parents said they could not remember where they buried Abdulazeez. The survival of heavily pregnant Taiyelolu and the future of her three children pose a challenge to her. She said the aged parents of her “ghost” husband could no longer work, hence, the fate of her children hung in the balance. When she called Nigerian Tribune reporter last Monday, she said she was having signs that she would soon put to bed. She, therefore, appealed to the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola; his wife, Alhaja Sherifat, other well-meaning Nigerians, including corporate organisations and non- governmental organisations to come to her aid by empowering her so that her future and that of her three children abandoned could be secure. What about her husband? She says he, these days appears only in her dreams. |
A woman had been sleeping next to her dead husband's decomposed corpse for one year until authorities made the grizzly discovery this week. Apparently, 79-year-old "Marcel H." from Liege, Belgium, died back in November 2012 of an asthma attack, according to Carters News Agency. His wife was so upset that she failed to report the death and continued to sleep with the body until Belgian authorities made the bizarre finding on Tuesday, Nov. 19. They were led to the apartment because the landlord claimed the couple hadn't paid their rent since last year. Neighbors never reported a bad smell. The body had mummified. Expert's Opinion: "A body can mummify in a dry, warm environment," Philippe Boxho, pathologist at the Forensic Center of Liege told Carters. "It takes at least a week to reach such a state. In this case the body had rotten [sic] in the bed [and] his internal organs had melted and liquefied. ... Even though the smell of human decay is quite specific, many people equate that smell to the smell of garbage and once the body has become rotten the smell does decrease significantly." https://img.naij.com/n/world/0d/6/o-mummy-570.jpg https://img.naij.com/n/world/0c/0/o-mummy-570_1_.jpg |

There's nothing you won't hear! 20 year old Computer Science student Elina Desaine is happy to be called the Horniest Student in 2013 after boasting of sleeping with up to three men every week. The University of Exeter student was named Britain's Horniest Student after entering a degrading online competition where contestants are encouraged to sleep with as many partners as they can. Whoever sleeps with the most partners and can prove it, wins the competition. Latvian- born Elina won it and received £500 and a year's supply of condoms. Pictured above with Tom Thurlow, the creator of the website that organized the contest. Elina proudly wrote on her Facebook page before she won ‘I should be the UK’s horniest student because I have sex with at least 2 / 3 different people a week. Sometimes I go clubbing, have sex with someone, and then go back to the club to pick up my second victim. Feeling Hot right now, so might just text someone on my ‘shag list’ and do it in the computer room (I’ve done this before, was great!) 'With your help of Alcohol I will be able to become an even Hornier Student!’ See achievement! Dear Elina you should be worried about what future employers might say about this, because this is online and it's never going away! Meanwhile, people are already calling for the ban of the competition |
While delaying marriage has advantages -- a lower divorce rate, higher income for women and fewer and less intense arguments between spouses -- studies show there also may be benefits to tying the knot before age 30. However, there is such a thing as marrying too young. Research shows that marriages beginning when a woman is 18 are twice as likely to end in divorce as those beginning when she is 22. Below are five reasons to get married in your 20s. 1. It could make you happier. The highest percentage of people ages 20 to 28 who consider themselves "highly satisfied" with their lives are married, as opposed to single or cohabiting. What's more, the largest number of women who described their marriage as "very happy" tied the knot when they were 24 to 26. A 2010 study found that "the greatest indicated likelihood of being in an intact marriage of the highest quality is among those who married at ages 22-25." 2. You'll make more money (at least if you're a man). An analysis revealed that among men in their mid-30s, those who married in their 20s had the highest levels of personal income. Economists have found, in general, that married men earn more than single men -- even when you control for other factors like age and education. 3. You'll have more sex. Couples who marry in their 20s tend to have more frequent sex than those who marry later. Researchers say that "a four year increase in age at marriage is associated with a couple having sex about one time less per month." What's more, married people as a whole have more sex than their single counterparts. 4. You'll drink less alcohol. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that married and engaged young adults reported lower frequency of drunkenness than those who are not in a serious romantic relationship. Laying off alcohol has many health benefits, including weight loss, better sleep, better skin and a reduced risk of some cancers. 5. There's nothing to be gained from waiting -- if you think you're ready. We certainly aren't advocating a rush to the altar, but if you feel like you're prepared for that next step, go for it. Research says there's no advantage to delaying marriage just for the sake of delaying it. A 25-year- old person who meets an excellent marriage prospect would be ill-advised to pass up that opportunity only because he/she feels not yet at the ideal age for marriage. Furthermore, delaying marriage beyond the mid-twenties will lead to the loss during a portion of young adulthood of any emotional and health benefits that a good marriage would bring. |
Samuel Eto'o has alleged that some of his team mates are conspiring against him ahead of the playoff against Tunisia. Cameroon host Tunisia on Sunday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé in a 2014 FIFA World Cup final leg play-off with the scores 0-0 from the first leg. The Indomitable Lions' skipper made the allegations on Wednesday during a press conference that he attended together with Coach Volker Finke alongside vice-captains Nicolas Nkoulou and Enoh Eyong. The Chelsea striker said rumours of a conspiracy against him by some of his teammates are true and alleged that instructions had been issued not to pass the ball to him whenever he is in a good scoring position. "It is sad to say but it is true. And as the coach is present, I am asking him to make sure it does not happen anymore in our national team. If we were not about to play such a crucial game, I would have asked you to have a look at some of the matches yourselves," Eto'o said. And Eto'o went on to explain why he had played so often out of position during the first leg in Radès. "If I moved back so much towards the midfield against Tunisia, it is before I knew about it already. I had to play like that and I did it, but on Sunday we are talking about Cameroon, about our country. We must put our problems behind us and play for Cameroon," Eto'o said. |
Every Nigerian student who should be in school but is presently at home because of ASUU strike must make use of this strike to their advantage. Rather than allow their destinies to be jeopardized, they can turn this situation around in their own favor. These are 15 things every student must do before the ASUU strike is over. 1. CATCH UP ON LOST ACADEMIC WORK If there was any academic related work that you missed while school was still in session, you do not have to wait until school resumes to catch up on them. Use this god-given opportunity (or rather ASUU-FG created opportunity) to your advantage. If you missed a class note, update your notes. Do all the omitted assignments. Write your lab reports. Complete your class projects. Do your team works. Perfect your field exercise. All of this will make you readily prepared for resumption once the strike is called off. 2. DEVELOP A TALENT If you had ever felt school was boring to you, and that you would have loved to develop an inborn talent, but the enormous challenges of academic work will not allow you devote time to channel your energy towards a god given dream, then you no longer have any excuse. Maximize this period to develop this god given talent and make sure you achieve a part of, if not all of that dream before school resumes. Write that book and publish it. Go to studio with that song and release at least a track, if not the complete album. Produce that video. Join a football club and make a name. Whatever your talent is, do something about it before the strike is over. 3. LEARN A SKILL If you have never thought about a specific talent in your life, you likely may say there is none to develop. That will still not be an excuse for you to waste these precious moments. Go learn a skill. Look for something new to add to your life. Learn a skill that will be relevant to your future. Learn how to drive. Learn how to swim. Learn to make beads. Learn how to sow dresses. Learn hair dressing. Learn event decoration. Learn photography. Learn publishing. If you don’t find something to learn, go learn how to cook (funny as it sounds). Just make sure you learn a skill. 4. ORGANISE YOUR SCHOOL MATERIALS The best time to get yourself organized for resumption is now that there is still time to play around. Gather up all your scattered school materials and arrange them in a safe place. You do not want to be looking for a textbook or an important school note when school resumes, only to find out that it has been carelessly soiled with oil in the kitchen, or some pages torn away by a sibling. Keep all of your school material in one place so you can easily access them whenever the Almighty ASUU and the Controller Generals of the nation decides to settle their scores, be it political or otherwise. It’s time to do some more important things with your life. 5. ENGAGE IN CONSTANT WEEKLY REVISION Do not just put your academic life on hold for now because of the strike. Constantly engage in revisions. Spread the courses you offer in school over a period of time. Say, if you have registered for eight courses this semester, spread them over eight weeks. This means you will need to study one course per week. So, dedicate at least one day in each week for the study of this course. This way, you likely may be able to cover all your courses before the strike is called off, and you will be in a better academic shape once school resumes. Take advantage of this period to give yourself an academic lift. If every student will do this, this can be their best semester so far. 6. DO A PROFESSIONAL COURSE Life is not just about certificates; some professional courses carry much more weight than B.Sc, or at least, add to the weight of your degree. Intentionally go in search of such courses and register for them. They do not cost a fortune. Moreover, it is better than just sleeping and waking and hoping that Uncle GEJ will change his mind very soon about his stand on ASUU demands. Invest your time in a professional course organized by the professional body of the course you are studying in school. Even if you do not complete the course before resumption, their schedule is so flexible that you can still combine it with your normal academic schedule. 7. PROJECT INTO THE FUTURE Most students do not have a well-planned out life. They just hope that life will be fair on them once they graduate from the university. If you are also one of such, this is the best time to spend enough time to plan your future and rightly channel it the way you desire it goes. What will you like to do after graduation? Service year is the ready answer in your mind! What if Service is delayed by a year, what will you do with the time? If Service eventually comes, what will you do during service year? Will you consider any pet project? What will it be about? How will you raise fund for it? What happens after Service year? Which organization will you like to work with? Do they have a specific requirement? How do you meet that requirement in order to make your dream of working with them possible? There are a million and one questions that need to be answered before time, and this is the best time to do that. And do not forget to add this all important question “at what stage after graduation do I want to be married?” 8. UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT COMPUTERS It is sad to note that while kindergartens in the developed world are already being introduced to computers, there are still final year students in our universities who do not know how to use one of the most common applications on the computer – Microsoft Word. The closest they have ever gotten to the IT world is to check their facebook page on their java phones or reply their emails using the opera mini on same phone. Please, do not pretend to know what you do not know; go update your computer knowledge. If you don’t, you will not know what you have missed until it is almost over for you. 9. ATTEND DEVELOPMENTAL SEMINARS You will also need to attend as many developmental seminars and conferences as you can find around you. Some of them will cost some money. However, you will also find some of them free of all charge. These seminars will help you to become a better person and prepare you for the challenges of the labour market, challenges of marriage, and every other challenges that may come your way. 10. GET A PAID EMPLOYMENT If you feel you will be better off with some extra fund every month, then you may consider getting a paid employment. Although, no company will offer you the mouthwatering offer they give to their new intakes, no matter what level you are in the university (do not forget you are just a bloody undergraduate), but at least, whatever you get at the end of every month should save you the embarrassment of having to call all the uncles you have in the world just to renew your BIS, and you will still have some change to play around with. However, whether what they pay you will be worth your time and your effort is left for you to decide. 11. CATCH SOME FUN All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy. Do not be a Jack; catch some fun. Take a weekend out to visit an uncle outside your place of residence. Check on a long-forgotten relative. Attend a family function, say wedding, house warming etc. Visit the zoo. Go check out the National museum. Go for a midweek service in a big church that is far away from your home church. Give yourself a treat in an eatery. Go to a recreation center. Visit the beach on a quiet day. Whatever you can do to catch some fun, please do. It is good for your health. 12. PRAY Take time out to pray. There are so many things you can pray about at your age. Pray for your future. Pray for your relationships. Pray for your academics. Pray for your family. More importantly, pray that God should intervene and bring a solution to the academic situation of the country so that school can resume back on time. 13. GET CLOSER TO GOD There is no better time in your life to start a relationship with God than now. If you do not have a relationship with him, you should begin to reconsider your stand now. Those who do not give God their audience while on campus do not get his attention after graduating from campus. If you have a relationship with Him already, be more committed to the relationship. 14. READ STUDENTS SELF HELP BOOKS STUDENTS SELF-HELP BOOKS (SSHB) authored by Sam O. Salau, (Africa’s leading author on Students’ issues) are collections of carefully selected materials specifically written to students to help them become better in their academics and other areas of their life. These titles are available in both soft copies and hard copies |

CHINA 1985: GERMANY 0-2 NIGERIA The Golden Eaglets conquered the world in the inaugural edition of the U17 World Cup staged in China. Nigeria sent shivers down the spines of opposing teams as they dominated every departments of the game. After brushing aside the likes of Italy, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia in the first round, Hungary was next to face the fury of the Nduka Ugbade-captained team as they were trounced 3-1 in Shanghai. However, the Eaglets faced their toughest test of the championship when they faced West African foes, Guinea in the Semi finals which they scraped through 4-2 on penalties. In the final match, the Germans had no hiding place as they bowed to a well organised Nigeria side that had Lucky Agbonsevafe who looked majestic in goal, Sani Adamu dictating the pace in the midfield and Joseph Babatunde wreacking havoc in the opponents’ defence. Coach: Sebastian Broderick Goals scored in the tournament: 10 Discovery(s): Nduka Ugbade, Jonathan Akpoborie CANADA 1987: NIGERIA 1 (2-4) 1 SOVIET UNION Phillip Osondu almost single-handedly gave Nigeria their second world cadet championship title but the USSR proved to be luckier team as they edged out Nigeria on penalties to be crowned world champions after a tension-soaked final. Defending champions Nigeria began with a 1-1 draw against eventual champions Soviet Union before pushing aside South American champions Bolivia 3-2 in a ding-dong affair with Osondu – the golden boot winner getting a brace. Though they lost narrowly 1-0 to Mexico, the Eaglets made it to the last eight ahead of the Concacaf kings on superior goal difference. Nigeria overcame Australia in the quarter final before brushing European superpower - Italy for a place in their second successive final. Playing intelligent football built around a 4-4-2 formation which gave them a free rein to some excellent individual talents, the Sebastian Broderick Eaglets bowed to Soviet Union in the final after scores stood 1-1 after extra time. Coach: Sebastian Broderick Goals scored in the tournament: 7 Discovery(s): Phillip Osondu, Jonathan Akpoborie JAPAN 1993: GHANA 1-2 NIGERIA After failing to get past Saudi Arabia in the quarter finals of Scotland 89 and missing out of the 1991 edition, Nigeria made their fourth appearance at the Fifa U17 World Cup count as they won their second title in third showing in the final. Nigeria made their intention of a second title known in their very first game when they hammered Canada 8-0 before dismissing the Argentine football team by four unreplied goals. With qualification to the knock out stage already guaranteed, the Eaglets slammed the door softly against Australia with a 2-0 victory in Gifu City. The Fanny Amun-tutored lads survived a scare from the hosts in the quarter finals before securing a 2-1 victory over Poland in Hiroshima. Ghana proved a hard nut to crack in the final as Daniel Addo, Sebastian Barnes and Michael Edusei unsettled the Mobil Oparaku led backline but it was the Nigerians that reigned supreme after 90 minutes of exciting football. Coach: Fanny Amun Goals scored in the tournament: 20 Discovery(s): Wilson Oruma, Kanu Nwankwo, Celestine Babayaro, Pascal Ojigwe TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 2001: FRANCE 3-0 NIGERIA It was a failed expedition for Nigeria as they failed to lift the trophy despite showing lots of promises enroute the final. Abdullahi Musa’s lads showed maturity beyond their years as they as they oscillated between a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 and were able to rely on two extremely gifted individuals – Femi Opabunmi and Karimu Shuaibu. Their biggest highlight in the competition was their 5-1 massacre of Australia in the quarter finals after an inspiring victory over the United States of America in their last group game in Scarborough. The Golden Eaglets eventually surrendered the trophy to the French team in the final no thanks to an apathetic display. Coach: Musa Abdullahi Goals scored in the tournament: 14 Discovery(s): Femi Opabunmi, Akpan Bassey SOUTH KOREA 2007: SPAIN 0 (0-3) 0 NIGERIA Nigeria made it three out of three on Asian soil after previous successes in China and Japan respectively. Though the Eaglets made a slow start in the opening game against France, they bounced back with a commanding 4-1 annihilation of Haiti before a 2-1 win over Japan in their last group outing. Yakubu Alfa was the hero in Gwangyang as he came off the bench to secure victory for his side that was down by a lone goal to a hard-fighting Colombian side in the round of 16. It took the individual brilliance of skipper Haruna Lukman to push aside the Argentines before making life difficult for a Toni Kroos-led German side in the semi final. In the final, Nigeria successfully converted their spot kicks with Dele Ajiboye stopping two of the Spain’s kick after match had ended scoreless. Coach: Yemi Tella Goals scored in the tournament: 16 Discovery(s): Haruna Lukman, Chrisantus Macauley, Rabiu Ibrahim NIGERIA 2009: NIGERIA 0-1SWITZERLAND Defending Champions, Nigeria got stunned by the Swiss – first timers at the global fiesta in the final played in Abuja. Not many expected Dany Ryser’s side to stop the hosts from lifting a record fourth title after the Nigerians came from three goals down to hold the Germans U17 to a 3-3 draw in Group A’s opening game. The team made a steady progress as the competition continued especially their comprehensive victory over hot-title favorites Spain in the semis.
