But today, she is looking a shadow of her old self ,following several scars on her body allegedly inflicted on her by Babalola. Trouble according to her, started after she discovered that her lover was smoking Indian hemp. Out of concern ,she reportedly accosted him, only to be given the beaten of her life. In this interview with Crime Guard, she barely managed to speak. She had blood- stained eyes and swollen face, no thanks to another round of beaten she received from her live-in-lover Babalola. Narrating what she described as her greatest undoing , she said:"he came back home recently and I found a wrap of Indian hemp on him. I knew he smokes but never knew he was into Indian hemp. I pleaded with him to quit but he kept quiet. Next day, I told him I was going to visit my mum that was ill. He also said he was going out but that he was not having any money on him. I told him I had N300 which I opted to share with him . But when I went to take my bath, he searched my bag and found N2000. He asked where I got the money from and I told him it was not mine. At that point, he started ranting, looking for an avenue for another round of beating. I reminded him that I was not owing him because he usually goes out and comes in without caring to drop money for our little daughter's upkeep. Before I knew it, he gave a hot slap on my face and started beating me. When I attempted to shout to alert neighbours, he picked a towel and gagged me. I managed to escape . But by then, he had inflicted injuries all over my face" Asked why she had not bothered to report to her family or that of Babalola, she disclosed that they were not legally married. Also asked why she did not deem it fit to report the matter to the police, she winked, saying, " I have on several occasions reported the incessant battering to the police. But each time, they would ask me to go home and resolve the issue with him. He beats me at the slightest provocation, particularly when I cautioned him against smoking Indian hemp. My worry was not only his smoking attitude but the fact that each time, he comes asking me to give him money and when I refused, he would beat me up. As if that was not enough, he threatened to beat up my mother when I ran to her place for treatment. He told her to leave us alone that she had no right over his relationship with me". NGO to her rescue Determined to put a stop to the beating, she said she was refereed to the Rights and Empowerment Advocacy Initiative, from where the case was charged to court. In a letter to the President/Executive Director of Citizens Rights and Empowerment Advocacy Initiative,CREMA Comrade Rex Kennedy Saltlove, titled "Assistance to Intervene on Assault Case and Petition to Stop the Intimidation of My Mum and I by Mr Ahmed Babalola, Oladejo appealed for immediate steps to be taken before Babalola snuffed life out of her and her mum. The case, has been charged to Magistrate's Court 8,with the next hearing coming up on September 7, 2013. But relatives according to her, were trying to pacify her to settle the case out of court. There is however, a new twist to the whole saga as Oladejo said she received a phone call few days ago, where the caller who identified himself as a policeman, requested to see her and her mum at Area 'M' Command, Idimu, that there was a petition of threat to life against them by Babalola. |

The Syrian government carried out chemical weapons attack in Damascus in the early hours of August 21, killing at least 1,400 people as they slept in their homes. Although the government is denying being behind the attack, president Obama says the military action against Syria is necessary to deter future chemical attacks...not only in Syria but other governments thinking of doing same. "We cannot and will not turn a blind eye to what happened in Damascus. What message are we sending out if a dictator can gas hundreds of children to death in plain sight without paying a price" Obama said Once the US congress reconvenes on September 9th, president Obama will have his answer. Do you think the US should take any military action against Syria? Meanwhile Britain has said they will not take part in any military action against Syria but UK Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted that "he understands and supports president Obama's position" Do you think that he should do that? |

Huffington post reports Ali Afifi is believed to have been motivated by Sharia law when he amputated both hands in separate incidents. The Egyptian lost his first hand by holding it under the wheels of a train five years ago. His shocked father had him institutionalised, but the 28-year-old repeated the action with the other hand upon his release. Afifi, who posed for these pictures this week, is said to have asked a Muslim scholar to sever his hands because he could not stop stealing “after losing the war against the devil. Afifi said: But the Sheikh refused my request, saying he is not a ruler or in a decision-making position to take such a decision… he advised me to repent and seek God’s help... I then decided to cut my hands off.” Describing his addiction as a "disease", Afifi began stealing lunches from friends as a child, before moving onto items in shops, mobile phones and gold jewellry. |

A 20-year old Awwalu Ali has been sentenced to 90 days imprisonment for stealing a toilet door at the Calvary Faith Baptist Church, Life Camp, Abuja. The verdict has been read at Abuja Magistrates' Court on August 28, 2013, Wednesday. Mr. Abdullahi Illela, the Magistrate, who convicted Ali, said that it would serve as a deterrent to others. The Magistrate, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N2,500. Simon Emmanuel, the Prosecutor, previously told the court that one Adebiyi Laniyan of the Calvary Baptist Church reported the crime at the Life Camp Police Station on August 24. Emmanuel said that the convict broke into the church compound and removed the door to the toilet, but was arrested before he could escape with it. Awwalu Ali of Dape village, pleaded guilty to the charge and urged the court to pardon him. "I am a family man with a wife and two children; they will starve to death if I go to jail, please, have mercy on me, my Lord," he said. |

Wristwatch Causes Problem Amongst The Super Eagles |
Some Super Eagles players have accused one of the coaches of the national team of extorting money from players through his wristwatch business. The correspondent learnt that the coach would buy the wristwatches at cheap prices in Europe, only to sell them at ridiculous rates for the players. According to the players, they became enemies of the said coach if they refused to buy the wristwatches from him. "The coach buys the wristwatches between $500 and $1000 in Europe and forces us to buy them for $10000. If you don't buy, you are regarded as an enemy," one of the senior players of the national team, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent. "The most painful thing is that these wristwatches are sold at very cheap prices in Europe; they go for between $500 and $1000 but he brings them here to sell for us at such outrageous prices. I have to buy or I would be seen as encouraging the other players not to buy." Another player, who plays in Eastern Europe, also complained of the same problem. The player, who also pleaded anonymity, said he almost lost his place in one of the junior national teams because of the wristwatches. "Before I moved to my present club, I was on an apprentice contract, which means I wasn't collecting much money but the coach forced me to buy the watch. "The same thing happened to me, when I was invited to the senior team. It is not good for the team because a lot of players are grumbling, though they can't come out and say it." An official of the team confirmed the story saying, "I have heard about the story before." But the Eagles media officer, Ben Alaiya, denied any knowledge of the illegal transactions. He said, "I am not aware of any such story. The Super Eagles is not a market place; if at all anything like that is happening, I think it's a private transaction between those involved. But I am not aware of anything like that." |

The attackers used rockets to release fatal fumes over the suburb in the early hours of yesterday morning as people slept in their homes. The Syrian president has denied being behind the attack as protests against it erupted in other parts of the world. Ladies, knowing the truth, they say set one free. Read this very carefully and learn….. 1. Guys love to marry independent and mature ladies… So instead of sitting there and waiting to be bluffed by a guy, focus on getting a career that would take you out of the housewife category. 2. Never let the sweet talks of guys deceive you, most times they just want to go between your legs and run off thereafter. 3. Stop fantasising that guys will keep coming up to approach you. The older you get by the day, the less admirers you have. 4. Stop playing 'too' hard to get! Remember, nothing lasts forever. If you still doubt, check out the number of matured single ladies looking up to GOD FOR A MIRACLE. 5. Never extort things from a guy you don't love, guys always have ways of paying a girl back, either through their FRIENDS or total 'PAID' STRANGERS….BE CAREFUL. 6. Never be deceived, you cant keep a guy using sex. You can never win a man over with your body. 7. If all you take to the relationship is the mind set to EXTRACT MONEY from him, don't complain if all he ask from you is your body. He has seen you have nothing else to offer… 8. Don't be fooled when guys tell you they have never met a prettier girl, they will say that same thing to an 80year old woman they want to get intimate with. 9. A guy always taking you to the CINEMA, FAST FOOD, MALL AND EVENTS, CLUBS is no sign that he loves you, if he doesn't care to ask and PLAN THE FUTURE WITH YOU, then you are just his 'SOCIAL MATE' 10. If the only time he invites you over is when he needs to cook, clean the house and do his laundry, then just know you are his "executive house help". 11. If he avoids meeting your family and close friends, then it is an obvious sign he is just playing games with you. |

Prof. Tam David-West, the former Minister of Petroleum, said there were "more thieves in the Nigerian government than saints". David- West made the observation while speaking at a town hall meeting organised by the University of Ibadan chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. He spoke thus: "Any government that fails to invest in education is a vagabond government. The problem with Nigeria is that we have more thieves than saints in government. "We drill over two million barrels of crude oil per day. Why should we be poor? ASUU is saying, 'Put money in education to improve education quality for our children and those yet unborn'. "The same government that does not have money for education budgeted N1bn each to feed the President and Vice-President for a year. Are they eating rock in Aso Rock? "It is not having university degree that makes you a good leader. Late President Umaru Yar'Adua and Goodluck Jonathan are the first set with university degrees -- but that has not translated to significant changes. Churchill was not the best in his class but one of the best world leaders." He said there was no justification for any lawmaker to earn more than a university professor. "They spend less time and may not even have five credits, yet a Senator in Nigeria earns more than 10 professors. A Senator in Nigeria can pay President Obama's salary four times over. When people get to the top they become insane," he noted. Other speakers at the event were the National Treasurer of ASUU, Dr. Ademola Aremu; state Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju; ASUU Chairman, UI, Dr. Segun Ajiboye; Dr. Biodun Badmus, Mashood Erubami, Abiodun Aremu and Femi Aborishade. |

Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has ordered the closure of nearly 100 Christian churches in key cities, citing criminal practices organized by Pentecostal pastors that threaten the security of the Central African nation. Among the affected churches was Winners Chapel founded by Nigerian pastor, David Oyedepo. Reports say last Sunday, a 9-year-old Christian girl had collapsed and died during a prayer session in Winners’ Chapel. The girl’s mother, Mih Theresa, told CNN Wednesday that the pastor intended to cast out the numerous demons that were in control of her daughter’s life. In tears, she told CNN: I want the government to stop these pastors who use mysterious powers to pull Christians and kill then for more powers. All my children have ran away from the Catholic Church in search for miracles, signs and wonders,” Another Christian, Mveng Thomas, said his marriage ended abruptly when a Pentecostal pastor ordered his wife to dissolve their union. He said the pastor described him as “an unrepentant devil.” Government officials also say that some pastors convince their members that they do not need professional medical treatment for their ailments. “How can a pastor say the sick needs no medical doctor? We need sanity in our Christian lives,” Nyang Blaise, a youth leader for Biya’s ruling party, CPDM, told CNN. One woman said her mother was refusing cancer treatments because of her pastor. “My mother’s condition is worsening after doctors confirmed she had cancer. She is dying silently, and yet we cannot persuade her to see a doctor for proper treatment, against her pastor’s wish,” Deborah Tanyi said. Mbu Anthony Lang, a government official in Bamenda, also told CNN on Wednesday: We will get rid of all the so-called Christian Pentecostal pastors who misuse the name of Jesus Christ to fake miracles and kill citizens in their churches. They have outstretched their liberty. Nearly 500 Pentecostal churches operate in Cameroon, but fewer than 50 are legal. So far, President Biya has shut down more than 50 churches, targeting nearly another 100 in eight other regions. In reaction to the shut down, the affected pentecostal pastors say the move is evidence of Biya’s insecurity about the churches’ criticism of the government. So, they are transforming their private homes into churches. Boniface Tum, a bishop of the Christian Church of God in Yaounde, said that Biya, who has been president since 1982, is becoming insecure about the freedom of speech within these churches. “Authorizing only the Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Muslim, and a few other churches, is a strict violation of the right to religion,” Tum added. |

A 24-year-old student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, reportedly told the police that he planned to use the ransom placed on a two- year-old girl he kidnapped for his personal upkeep. An engineering student in the university, Tosin Adegbite, was paraded at the Oyo State command of the Nigeria Police, Eleiyele, Ibadan on Thursday, for allegedly kidnapping the girl from her mother at Ile-Alaroje area of Ogbomoso on August 9. He called the parents to ask for N700, 000 to secure her release. While parading the suspect, the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Indabawa, said he was arrested after a distress call was received in respect of the incident. The police boss informed that one jack knife, two cellotape, one face cape, one cable wire, a pair of the victim's sandals and one LAUTECH identity card were among the items recovered from the suspect. Also, the command displayed some improvised explosive devices and allied materials it recovered from suspects. Mr. Indabawa told journalists that the items were intercepted on August 11 at around 3:15 a.m. by a police team along Podo-Ijebu-Ode. "After a hot chase the occupants of a Nissan Sunny car painted in Ogun State commercial colour escaped into a nearby bush while the vehicle was abandoned. "On searching the vehicle, police discovered six cartons of explosives powder, two cartons of solar detonating cords, and 16 bundles of ten wires each of delay detonator wires. "The Nissan Sunny car with Ogun State commercial colour has two registration numbers, Ogun-XC XFR AKM and AL 831 LUY," he added. The police boss said investigations revealed that the explosives were stolen from a quarry around Toll-Gate, Ibadan. |
The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigations into the mysterious death of a 39-year-old trader, Sylvanus Okoye, who was discovered without his penis in a pool of blood at his house. PUNCH Metro learnt that the indigene of Abidi, Umu Ochi, Anambra State, was found dead two weeks after he was last seen by neighbours. His corpse was said to have been discovered after a foul odour engulfed the premises of the house, located at Ezemegbu Drive, Okota. It was learnt that on Thursday, neighbours forced the door to his apartment open and the corpse was discovered. The victim's brother, Paul, also a trader, said neighbours called to inform him that his brother had not been seen for some days. He said, "I was called by the landlord that they have not seen my brother for some time. They said a stranger dropped his phone and house key with the security guard. "When I got here, we opened the door to his flat. We saw his bloated body, with a rope tied on his neck. There was a mortar, pestle and a knife on the bed. Obviously he was murdered. "We are confused now; we have reported the matter at Okota Police Station. They have collected the knife and pestle. What I am craving now is justice. Police should investigate this matter and prosecute all involved. "We were told that the security guard at their house was not around on that fateful day, so a certain man dropped the key to my brother's house and his telephone with a female trader in front of the house. The guard told us that he knew the person who dropped the key." PUNCH Metro learnt that the guard and the trader had been arrested by the police. The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone. She said, "On Thursday morning, the landlord of the building, Amaechi Nwosu, reported at the Okota Police Division that his tenant, who was a bachelor, was found dead in his flat. Policemen went to the scene and noticed that he was killed in a mysterious manner as his penis had been cut off. "Before the corpse was discovered, there had been attempts by the neighbours to force the door open. It was at that point that the security guard opened up that the key was with him. He said someone had given the key and the man's telephone to a trader and the trader handed it over to him. "The security guard and the trader have been arrested and are being questioned as they never bothered to inform anybody that they were with the key prior to now." |
